Rhonda Collins the price of Eleanor and Alan Poder was found dead in her uncle's barn. The assailant unknown, but a neighbor said that he saw a man running from the barn before Rhonda was found. The neighbor also put out a fire in the barn...They accused a couple of cattle drovers who were in the saloon pretty drunk, so Sheriff Tindale arrested them. Now there's a missing fourteen year old Ike Hammond, whose mother Flora works as a soiled dove to make a living for herself and son. They live in a shanty about a mile and half from town, the mother walks to and back by herself at night from town. You would think anyone or someone in town would help her out or look out for them, thats not the case, she's judged by her position in Buffalo Gap, she's a saloon worker, but thats soon to change..super yipee. This another baffling mystery Sheriff Tindale is facing and so far he doesn't have any clues. The liquor filled men organize a lynching mob and head toward the jail. Makes you wonder if there's more to whose really behind the murdered Rhonda Collins. Once you start with Sheriff Tindale and Deputy Emmett Brewer and what's happening in the town of Buffalo Gap you don't want to put your KINDLE down. Oh yes, the first book I wondered where Crockett, Sheriff's dog had disappeared. We were left up in the air!!! Well, Crockett is mentioned in this mystery and he seems okay. The Sheriff has had him since a puppy 🐕, he just followed Cull Tindale and his horse around and thats that.. Looking forward to reading Book number three. The adventures hold you attention and the author leads you down one trail with possibilities and then you scratch your head because he throws in another possibility of guilt..Hot-dang-it your going to enjoy reading and your going to laugh, the characters are funny but sneaky especially the town's newspaper owner John Hudson, whose really a snake in the grass, who writes out of both sides of his mouth. You'll like how the Sheriff handles these town's characters.. Ride easy Sheriff Cull Tindale and Deputy Emmett Brewer of Buffalo Gap, Texas.
Another terrific Cull Tindall adventure! This one led me down the wrong trail. A young girl is brutally murdered and Cull immediately has a couple suspects, and couple of drunken saddle tramps from a passing cattle drive. The problem is, the evidence doesn't add up and the sheriff begins to doubt their guilt. Then the son of a whore ends up missing. Related? Hard to say because nobody is talking. Now he has more suspects. Really good read.
This is the second book in the Cullen Tindall series and it is an excellent read for anyone that misses classic western authors like Elmer Kelton and Lewis B. Patten. Interesting characters, clever plot twists and plenty of old west action. I look forward to reading more by this author.
After reading several of his books, I'm pleased to say this book was not only enjoyable, but also had a better plot twist. I look forward to more of this authors stories.
Who killed Rhonda? Damned if I knew. Had to read the whole book to find out. Good guys . Bad guys. Quirky characters. Plot twists. For me definitely 5 stars.
