Yoshihiro Togashi (冨樫義博) is a manga artist. Credited in Chinese translations as Fu Jian Yi Bo.
He began drawing manga at an early age; while he attended college, the publisher Shueisha recognized his talent. Togashi has authored numerous manga series in different genres during the past three decades. I feel cheated by the ending of the spiders. I wanted more from that! Although it doesn't seem fully over. I can't trust this Battera guy and his assistant/gamer when it comes to hiring these guys for the game. What does he truly seek? Curious arc shift that has me curious for what is to come. Several ew characters introduced. And on a side not, what is with this book cover?!
The end of Yorkshin City arc and the start of Greed Island arc!!
The flow of the situation between our gang and the Phantom Troupe was somehow fitting for the moment. I knew that killing Chrollo so early in the story would not be satisfying since he's one of the main antagonist in this series. He was also one of the best Nen users in HxH world and not being able to see more of his flexible abilities would be a waste. Though he was incapacitated at the moment because of the Judgement Chain Kurapika bestowed upon him, the fight between him and Kurapika was far from being over.
It was so sad to see our gang parting ways once more. I was always so glad to see all four of them together but all of them has their own things to do for now. Kurapika will now focus on finding his brethren's stolen eyes, Leorio on his way to continue his studies and our two kids to achieve their main goal of entering Greed Island.
Now we see Gon and Killua advanced their Nen abilities in order for them to participate in the Greed Island. Their basic Ren wouldn't do, so they have to learn their Hatsu technique to be able to pass the assessment, and they need to do that in the span of four days. Though Gon still wasn't sure what to do for his own ability, Killua already sorted out his own.
I admit Killua's torture days since childhood came in handy. I'm not saying it was particularly good, it was actually kind of sad that he was able to do that ability, it was advantageous. His ability to amplify electricity into his aura wasn't for anyone. Those who experience being electrified and able to bore the pain from it are the only ones who can basically achieve that kind of ability. Killua definitely owned his electric Nen ability.
This volume also consists of a lot of informations for the next arc. We already knew how simple-minded Gon was. His brain can't process complicated things that well. It was so hilarious to see how many times his brain short-circuited in this volume because of so much information given to him. He needed a wide brain capacity for the time to come. Well, atleast Killua's brain capacity was already wide enough for the both of them.
PS: Is it weird to say how I found Milluki so cute? For the past few volumes, we get to see a glimpse of him roming around Yorkshin City alone. It was his first time being outside Zoldyck's residence since he was ten years old. He offered to kill 15 people to get an amount of 15 billion just so he can participate in the auction of GI that he so wanted badly. But after losing the chance to get even one out of the seven game consoles, he was seen eating an enormous amount of food in a small restaurant. I found him so adorable for the first time.
PPS: Hisoka's reaction was so funny after learning that Chrollo, his dream opponent, was unable to fight him because he can no longer use of Nen (courtesy of Kurapika).
Again, this volume seemed to be mostly build-up to something bigger, as while we did have some conflicts between Gon's friends and the Spiders, there was mostly just lots of hints at things coming in future; in particular, Gon and Kil getting the chance to play the Greed Island game for the first time. Hopefully Gon will get some hint as to his father while they're doing so, because so far he has had zero luck...
The Yorknew arc finally ends as we move on to Greed Island! Are ya ready gamers?!? Yorknew was a bit anticlimactic but also kind of funny. It's neat to see Kurapika, who has devoted his whole life to revenge, suddenly beginning to question if revenge is what will satisfy him. He's developed the perfect tool for his revenge, something to strike back after losing everyone he's loved and being left alone, but now he has good friends and isn't alone. Is revenge really what will consume the rest of his life?
Oh and Gon and Killua are becoming real GAMERS! Video games! Nen games! With video! Ridiculous, contrived, overly complicated? That's HxH babyyyyyy
shoutout to will for giving me their shonen jump login so i can continue on my self-destructive path of ignoring physical books in favor of this series lmao
this volume was def lacking in any concrete excitement but that’s the way it goes when you have to set up the greed island arc!
hisoka vs chrollo, i await the day <3

Despite the incredibly cursed cover art, this volume is also incredible and closes out the Yorknew Arc. I think the anime covered Pakunoda's arc in a far more emotional way, and it definitely didn't translate as well on the page. I typically prefer anime adaptations over the manga in most cases anyway, and that's probably an unpopular opinion. Onto the Greed Island Arc!
3.7 - I'm so excited to start Greed Island, it's my favorite arc! The ending with the Spiders felt rather abrupt and unfinished though, definitely a weird change of pace but I don't mind since it leads us to Greed Island
Killua and Gon are practising their special attacks yeyyy, love it. Also, Leorio is such an underrated character, he's soooo cute and caring and his short interaction with Melody (LOVE HER) about being a doctor almost made me cry. Leorio deserves THE WORLD. And then finally: Greed Island arc has begun yessssss!!!
Chrollo Lucilfer is one of the most intriguing villains I’ve ever come across in Hunter x Hunter. At first glance, he seems like your typical “reserved badass” trope: cool design, calm demeanor, and impressive in combat. But the more you think about him, the more layers you uncover. He’s not just a villain he’s a concept. Chrollo embodies the idea of collective identity, and that’s what makes him so unique.
What I love most about Chrollo is how his character is intricately tied to the Phantom Troupe. He isn’t just their leader, he is the Spider. His identity is so intertwined with the group that his love for its members feels less like affection for individuals and more like a devotion to pieces of himself. This isn’t just hinted at in his behavior but also in his abilities, especially his Nen power, which literally steals the identities of others. It’s as if he’s searching for something to fill the void inside himself.
Togashi’s brilliance shines in how he uses restraint to build Chrollo’s mystery. We get so little about his backstory or his inner thoughts, but every small hint is packed with meaning. His moments of grief, like the Requiem for Uvogin, show both genuine loss and the destruction of a part of himself. And his acceptance of death? It’s not just courage; it’s a reflection of someone who sees his existence as secondary to the Troupe’s survival.
Chrollo isn’t just a “cool villain.” He’s a tragic, enigmatic figure whose lack of identity defines him and his story. The balance of subtlety and depth in his character is what makes him unforgettable. For me, Chrollo isn’t just one of Togashi’s best characters he’s one of the most fascinating villains in fiction.

The exchange happens successfully but due to the conditions applied by Kurapika, Chrollo cannot contact his Troupe and use his Nen and Pakunoda cannot reveal the secrets. But Pakunoda ignores it and shares the knowledge in the form of memory bullets to restore the peace within the Troupe and dies. Hisoka is disappointed to learn that Danchou is unable to use Nen and leaves him without fighting him. Kurapika falls ill with fever and the boys start to execute their plan to play the game 🎮 by becoming the one to play for the owner of the game. Two Phantom Troupe members too steal the game to play it. The game is very amazing, once someone is present inside the game, it cannot be destroyed externally. The virtual space for the game is same and the objective is to collect 100 numbered items. The ring 💍 is used for 2 functions book and gain. Book is used to store the cards which has to placed in the book within 1 minute of collecting the card. The rules are interesting. Gon has passed the test to finally play the game. He also comes to know that he has been deceived by his father and he asked him to play was to show the game he and his comrades created. The more I read about Gin, the more I feel that he is not a good person. Who does this to get his son come play where he may die as well.

We are officially in the Greed Island arc. I really do love the spiders and I feel sad about Paku's death, especially since her biggest worry was making sure that the others were safe. I want to learn more about them and Chrollo, which is a large part of why I started reading the manga. I also love the moment where Chrollo tells Hisoka that he can't use Nen and therefore their fight would be pointless and just seeing Hisoka's face... lmao. Also I love reading the manga because I am understanding and appreciating a lot more of the plot, since when I was watching the manga, some of it went over my head.
I'm sad that after this, Gon and Killua won't see Leorio or Kurapika for a long time and that hurts me. I adore the little moment of Melody telling Leorio that he has the kindest heartbeat in the town.... i love him🥺🥺 I can't wait to see him become a doctor. I already miss him
Also once again, fuck Ging for being a weirdo and the worst father ever

I'm going to stop doing a chapter wise detailed review thing from now on because well, I'm busy. But, this was more fast paced than the previous volume which I appreciate. The hostage exchange was done with a lot of intrigue which I ate up. And with that the Phantom Troupe arc finally came to an end. TBH it was seeming to drag by now. Hisoka's final showdown against Chrollo was... anticlimactic to say the least. Kurapika and Leorio probably won't show up in the next volume and I don't yet know how I feel about that.
Anyway Gon and Killua finally make some headway with getting a chance to play the Greed Island game but not quite the way they had earlier imagined. The boys train and get stronger before they finally enter said game and that's what the next volume will be about. I'm excited.
More of a 4.5 for this one. It's the end of the YorkNew Arc and the beginning of our descent into Greed Island. What a perfect ending to YorkNew! Chrollo gets his Nen taken by Kurapika making for a rather hilarious moment where Hisoka finds out. Also, Paku's realization that the knowledge of what happened is more important than her life is so well done. I just loved this arc. But now, we've moved into Greed Island territory and went through the trials to enter the game, meeting new characters along the way that might make for some fun additions to the new arc (a.k.a. Bisky). Now that we've entered I'm ready for what's next!

Yorkshin ends in a pretty good way. Anticlimactic for Kurapika, but Gon and Killua meet their goal, by gaining access to Greed Island. If I'm not mistaken, it will now be a long ass time before we see Kurapika or Leorio again....
I nearly forgot how much of an infodump the first chapter of Greed Island was! You can tell Togashi is definitely the type of dude to read the instruction manual and all in-game tutorials before progressing too far in any video game!
The Yorkshin auction lady is cute. The Greed Island tutorial NPC lady is also cute.
I can't wait for Chrollo to come back into the story. He was one of the most interesting characters in the whole series so far. But for now, we move on to GREEEED ISLAND. Gon has entered into the deadly video game, and we now know the rules of the game. It sounds simple in concept, but we have yet to see what threats await in the game.
This did a good job ending the York New City arc on a funny moment yet leading to a bittersweet note. However it did well to set up the Greed Island arc and Gon was a good audience surrogate in learning the rules of Greed Island as I too did not care for learning the rules and wanting just to explore the world.
ging horrible papá estúpido. "si quieres encontrarme...... too fuckin bad!!!!!! mira este juego q hice uwu"

Ages ago, I stopped watching the anime when it got to the Greed Island arc because I found the whole Yu—Gi-Oh! card system super confusing and I didn’t want to go through the motions and figure it out. 😓
I’m hoping I could better grasp what’s going on the second time…
