“But I won't. I won't run when that means abandoning the people depending on me. I won't run when we've been told what will happen to the people of Delos. I won't run, because who are they to tell me to run?” Buddy read with Nancy :)
“You know how this ends. With me escaping and giving you what you deserve.”
Not only does Hero, Traitor, Daughter have one of the ugliest covers but holy hell this entire book was... Bloody horrific!!! I had to force myself to keep reading this garbage and about quit several times. This book irritated me so badly that I seriously got a headache and worse reading this made me wanna bash my head into a wall. This was the shortest book yet in the series and all 187 pages were one big boring EPIC BATTLE only there is NOTHING epic about it. Ooooh and don't even get me started on the same damn characters being captured/escaping once again. Seriously around and around and around these books go always winding up back at the beginning, never truly moving forward and always with the same people. At this point, I don't really even like ANY of the characters anymore. God's they are ALL idiots and shouldn't be alive. Soooo predictable and the absolute most unbelievable stuff happens.
Me during reading this. And me by the end of this madness!
If you value your sanity at all I do NOT recommend this series to anyone!
“I love you,” he said. “I love you too, Thanos,” Ceres said. “But can’t this wait until we’re clear?”
I’m honestly just getting tired of this series. When it should have been slowing down and coming to a close, it built up more instead but without planting the seeds early enough to warrant the continuation. I don’t mind the expansion of the world, but it came out of nowhere. A mention of these places even like two books earlier would have sufficed. I just wish things were allowed to breath for two seconds without being plunged into chaos again. It really feels like there was absolutely no plan at all for the trajectory of the series so all that’s left is a jumbled mess.
Also, the SJM / Cassandra Clare aspect of every single character ever getting a significant other is a bit grating. I like the brother, but he really didn’t need a love interest especially when her presence in the story amounts to a piece paper floating on a strong breeze.
I still absolutely love Felene though! I really hope she’s okay hah we didn’t get a great closing scene for her and she’s carrying this series on her back rn. She’s basically Lila Bard from the Shades of Magic trilogy by V.E. Schwab but not ridiculously annoying or needlessly selfish. She’s a pretty solid anti-hero and I really like her.
Wowzah, this series keeps me on my toes for sure!! A few similarities to GOT in this one, but it was quickly overlooked due to the quick moving storylines...and the build up from the last novel was well worth it...the ending...holy crap! I can't wait to read the next one!
I was lucky enough to be given a copy of this book, here is my review.
It must be exhausting to live in this fantasy world - so many battles! Ceres has lost her powers thanks to the evil Stephania…yep, evil. Cruelty is as rife as ever, power is sought at every turn, even more cruelty now, at the hands of yet another arrogant, power-crazed villain, which forces more battles.
I do think that the books could be longer - perhaps fewer in number overall - however, each is action-packed and compelling.
I wonder where and how it will end? Great storytelling.
Sheesh, not that I thought the series was already amazing but a pretty decent and good series, this one was booooooooooring and so repetitive. Same with the characters and how some get captured *again for what seems like the millionth time* and then escapes and other cunning characters are annoying now, particularly Stephania 🙄🙈. Overall, this was nothing special and can see why many didn't like it as much. If the next two books are like this, oh well. I just want to finish a series for once and yet I'm curious how this one is going to end after two more books and why it needs it be this long since it's boring. 😐🥴
The sixth installment in the Of Crowns and Glory series. I feel like a lot happened and nothing happened at the same time. Thanos takes off after Lucious, Sarte and Ceres' father are working with the rebellion to overtake the Empire, Ceres is trying to stop Stefania ... and nothing goes right. There's now a Rebellion, Invaders, and the Empire vying for control of the castle and city. Lots of fighting, a lot of different points of view, and a lot of nothing coming to a conclusion. I guess on to the next book to find out who ends up winning the war. I don't really have too much to say about this one, sorry.
All in all, if you're really enjoying the series, then continue with it. If you're a little so-so on it, maybe stop here. I don't know. Advance at your own risk at this point.
So here's the thing: by the time you get to this book in the series, you're invested. There's almost no way you're going to stop reading after you've invested this much time in the series. If you enjoyed the prior books in the series, you'll enjoy this one. The one thing I'll say about this particular book in the series: this one was not easy on our heroes. Without getting into any potential spoilers, this feels more like the middle of a book than it does the middle of a series.
All of the hallmarks of her prior books are there: decent character development that comes along with a very quick read. Overall, I recommend.
So this one was a little more fun. Ceres has no powers. They have no idea what's about to happen thanks to Lucious and his idiotic tactics. And Stephania is using Ceres' capture for sport. Lots of backstabbing going on in this book. But I read this book really quick because it was sooo short. This could have been combined with 5 in my opinion. I mean the story is kind of progressing, but really slow at this point.
I'm listening to this series on audio books. I love the man reading it. He does a great job with uses different voices for different characters. I enjoy so much more because this man puts so much thought and effort into t She reading. The story itself is great full of suspension and action.
I am so invested in this story. Thanos is so good and he inspires so many people, which I find compelling. I love that he has been utterly consistent in his devotion to Ceres and that he chooses to help others even when it seems impossible that he would be successful. That goodness has recruited so many others to join in the rebellion, which has blossomed into something much bigger than the original aim. Now there is a larger, more powerful army seeking to fill the void left by the emperor's death in Delos and these villains are much, much scarier than the empire ever was. So much is happening and so many people's stories are interwoven in these books. I can't get enough!
Same story as before. Hero female underestimates female villain. Gets captured. Loses her powers. Gets tortured. Watches everything she loves die again. Vows not to break and to get revenge. Never takes her revenge when it is offered to her.
Hero male is off on another land only wishing to get back to hero female. Does stupid things the entire time. Not very good at forward thinking.
Now hero younger brother is starting to fall into "love makes you an idiot" territory. Sigh. He used to be my favorite character.

Spoilers Iove this series don't get me wrong but I think some of the books could have been put together to make a larger book. I love that thanks wife got what she deserved but she'll be back I have that feeling. But the price of the last two books are more then I would of paid usually for short books and I think that should be addressed. But I think that there might not be a happy ending....
I fell in love with this genre because of this series! I had never read fantasy before. Don’t thinkI would like a story about Druid’s and dragons and kings. When I read I rest went back in time!! Now I love love love these books! The story line itself is fantastic and keeps you on the edge of your seat! There is LOVE. Magic, more love, MORE MAGIC, murder, man it has everything a great book should!!❤️ Love love love this book
The relationships are so complicated! You actually get to see the main cast reunite a little in the finale of this and it gets crazy. The politics are rehashed a bit more in this, lots of moral dilemmas. At times it felt like too much was happening but at the same time I loved how fast paced it was in the end. Overall it was pretty boring, especially when compared to the plots of the previous books. It just kind of felt like a filler-book at the end of the day!

This one was the worst of them all. It was a long battle that from the beginning it was obvious it would be lost. It is Morgan's patter: first battle is lost, second is won. I knew it was a lost battle and was just waiting for them to get up and try again. Stephania's chapters were the most boring.

The series continues to be about the same epic battle after battle, back stabbing and people who should be dead not dying but remaining alive by the skin of their teeth. It’s been an okay series but I don’t know how many more books I am going to read if it doesn’t get better. I feel like the plot is being exhausted and it’s becoming more eye rolling then wow that’s an amazing character.
First time around for this installment of this series and it didn't disappoint. Maneuverings, back stabbings, betrayals.....it's all still there. Add in some great action and you've got another winner. Now for Book 7!
At the beginning of this "series" it had me hooked, by 6 it's the same thing with the same people and I'm getting really annoyed. Less than 200 pages for 4.99$ + tax= get it over with. Up down up down up down
Continuation of the story. Exciting continuation of the saga. This is a fun story and the story pits good versus bad and a basic understanding of which philosophy will win. All the girls get together with the hero of the story. A fun ending.
Oh boi mi tired I don't understand how people leave back from all the killings and murdering done by Claudius, Lucious, the stades, the invasion and just the brutally of the people.
