Centuries ago, the followers of the new gods defeated the people of the old gods in a challenge of champions. The folk of legend were banished from the world, and magic faded from the land. The Milesian Accords, however, provided for a new challenge, and the time for that challenge is running out.
Erin Donnelly, the proclaimed Champion of the Exiled Folk, is marooned in the otherworldly Glaswold after an assassination attempt. The fortress Dunos Scaith vanished, and Erin’s daughter disappeared with it. She has to find her daughter, finish her training, and make it back to the World of Man before the deadline.
Liam Knox, the Druid of the Accords, faces tests both domestic and mystical in rural Illinois. Liam must rally his allies in the wake of loss, mentor a son who has discovered magic, and deal with supernatural entities meddling in his life. All the while, Liam’s enemies circle closer, hunting the druid, his family, and his friends.
Only together can the Druid and the Champion face the Challenge and survive. If they fail, more than their lives hang in the balance. If they win, it could change the world as we know it. But first they must master their tangled fate.
I like the empathy, compassion and abilities of Liam. And I'm thrilled he didn't end with Erin. To me she is selfish. Sure, she saves the world but her words and personal actions are not a mother's. I'm going to read the next book and hopes it not all about Erin looking for the stag.
The Milesian Accords is an unusually well-written trilogy (for the genre) involving the standard trope of "The magic is gone, how to get it back" scenario set in the present-day USA. Characters are easy to identify with, reasonably varied, and mostly believable. Fair amount of sex scenes, but well crafted and not overwhelming. Yes, it's a kind of Romance Novel, but a considerable notch above the usual offerings. The writing is definitely a cut above the young adult "See Dick, see Jane, see Spot run," repeated every couple of paragraphs just in case the reader didn't get the idea. Lots of Welsh, Irish, Celtic, Christian mythology, integrated very nicely. A good read.
Less humor in this as it's meant to be serious. A couple months away by normal time to Liam and company and Erin brings home a 7 year old girl because Liam once again overcame the pill. Delayed some in her training by the pregnancy, she makes up for it and because of something Erin and co. did, what would have been bringing home a 5 year old ends up bringing home a 7 year old. The girl iis intelligent nand has been training as a warrior, but drills only. Tim and Susan have been doing the bulk of the work on the mew accords as Liam and Gofannon finish Erin's sword. Liam finds out Gofannon can tamper with tome as well. Liam has remained faithful to Erin in hopes she might change her mind, but Erin has found someone else, spmepne who gave up a great deal to get her to where they needed to be to prevebt The Healer from danger. Now, they are planning to find him after the challenge. Iblis is being a pain, and Liam's kindness and modern chivalry plus his kindness to Renee, a witch under Iblis's command, so to speak, inngiving her money to escape, is noted by his familiar. Shaken by Liam's reaction to her astral spying, where Pixel stays his hand, but realizing he is protectong those he loves, even his first witch and familiar leaves Iblis. The Moon Council, in charge of the Accords, "invites" Liam to meet with them and demands he use their accords. He only agrees to look at them and integrate them with his work, and there is a lot of posturing but he finds his stance is supported once he explaons his reasoning. The final contest begins on Samhain at 6 pm. Many of the druid councils woth whom Liam has networked have agreed to meet and participate in the rituals he designed, which should help. Does Erin win? What happens when the kids are alone with Susan and there is no protection for them? And just what exactly is going on woth her opponent? Read and find out. A better than average series that blends serious and humorous, everyday and extraordinary and keeps you turning pages when you should be sleeping, eating, or whatever.

But first they must master their tangled fate. So, the day of the challenge approaches and all are ready, Erin and Sky are home, Erin makes it clear to Liam she does not want him and will be returning to look for Nekton, admitting she loves him. I felt for Liam who had stayed true but was hippy finally he and Pixel could be together without Liam feeling guilty. I know Time had hoped his parents would work it out but the house reminds him to be happy for his father. The series is almost to an end, I look forward to the next book and seeing it to it's conclusion.
This was the best book in the series so far. It was good enough for me to give it a four star rating although I have to admit it is not a very strong four star rating.
The story continues on a fairly predictable path. Liam and Erin prepare for the challenge while those who rather see the challenge never happening or that Erin looses do their best to stop them in various more or less roundabout ways (since the accords prevent them from outright killing the champion and her druid).
So while Liam and Erin continues to train they have to thwart kidnappings, clobber bad guys and so on and so forth. Everything accompanied by a healthy dose of fun and cheeky dialogue.
This book leads up to, and includes, the actual challenge so it essentially completes the first main story arc in the series although there seems to be one more book after this one. I liked the big showdown at the end. A decent fight without resorting to illogical and annoying twists, something that many urban fantasy book series unfortunately do.
I also liked that this bloody nonsensical triangle drama between Liam, Erin and Pixel got resolved. It was rather annoying the way it dragged out through three books.
If I should sum up the book, the entire series actually, it would be: Decent urban fantasy story with good action, very likable characters and quite enjoyable dialogue.
So, overall I have enjoyed this series so far. I will definitely read the next book. Unfortunately it seems that is the last one in the series since it was published in October 2021 and since then no other book has been published. A bit of a shame since I hoped the author would start a new three book story arc after this one.
So I found out that this book would finish the plot of the first two. While I was quite frustrated with the hard ends of the last two books, this one does finish the arc well and made the prior story more enjoyable.
Still has some of the modern fantasy.... Interpersonal tropes but it does deal with the accords, the "will they won't they", the building of community, and the resolution of what happened after the end of book 2.
We see some impressive battles, and resolutions to some of the enemies, with some angry Druid appearances. I do wish we got to know some more of what was in the new accords but I also enjoyed the parts that showed up in the epilogue.
IF you enjoyed the previous you'll likely consider this a 4 star.
This still gets a 3 because it feels like it should have been one tome instead.
Audiobook via library. Great mixing and narration.
The only reason I didn't give this series a five star is because I'm not a huge fan of romance, so for me it's just not a fiver, but that's just personal preference. I really enjoy everything else in the series, the worldbuilding is fantastic and has scratched my urban fantasy itch to the fullest. Other than the love triangles I have loved the characters but even with that I couldn't help but find myself routing for Liam. throughout book two I started to question Erin's decision making and some of the things going on in the love triangle so spoiler alert......
SPOILERS******
I love that Liam finally got with Pixel but was also able to keep the kids and not lose out on any what he wanted because I feel like he was just a solid person throughout the series so far. Not that I dislike Erin I just felt she wasn't as solid as Liam.
This book wrapped up the first two in the series satisfactorily, I was relatively happy with the ending. It leaves a couple of storylines dangling and there are a couple more books addressing that but I don’t feel like I HAVE to read them to be satisfied with the storyline. Part of the reason I may not bother with the fourth book is that Pixel is my least favorite character in the series and I really won’t miss her lol. I will probably read them eventually, once I am done being annoyed by her character for a while 🙃
Good editing and plot development have come together to give us an excellent end to the Milesian Accords trilogy. The end of this book left me hoping for a new story arc. We rejoin Erin and Liam as they prepare for the contest to see who will control magic on earth. As they navigate the underhanded machinations of the avramites we can only hope the world will still be recognizable when its over.
The final book in The Milesian Accords did not disappoint. Jon Osborne can spin a yarn and keep you interested. Action packed with dynamic characters - it’s consistently all here. I loved some of the surprises sprinkled throughout the book. And the finale did not disappoint! Great imagination and tight writing that kept the conclusion strong and satisfying.
Love the characters and the bonds they form. It's a great story blending myths, legends, and human experience. Sincerely hoping for Eureka in the not too distant future!
The series held my interest from beginning to the end. If the infrequent swearing was omitted this series would have been suitable for all age groups. The mix of information in respect religion etc was intriguing and sparked an interest to learn more.
This book is just absolutely amazing!!! The ending let's you know more is coming without giving anything away and leaving you desperate for more. I found this book even better than the first two, and that is saying a lot! Very worth your time and money.
I don’t write as many of these as I should. Series premise hooked me nicely with book 1. If you enjoy fantasy with thoughtful twists, try this series. I’ve got the 4th book downloaded and I’m ready to go.
These are just a lot of fun. The only minor criticism I can think of is the amount of character exposition but it's of no matter. The writing itself is very good and I do enjoy all the important cultural references, turn it up to 11.
After the second book I had my doubts but, tangled fate brought the level back to the first. A bit predictable but a good story, unusual twists . I learned some things too
Great story telling for the first 3 books. I hope Kevin Hearne has a chance to read this. Atticus would fit right in. Mind blowing and wow mind blowing as well.
The day of the Challenge approaches. The magical sword is finished. The special armor is being fashioned. But Liam’s home has been discovered and the Avramites are now targeting the children.
This may now be one of my favorite series, and I very much want to read more in this universe. Fantastic storytelling and incredible characters. Enjoy!
