The Dhammapada is the single most important extant Buddhist text. It is unquestionably 'the voice of the Buddha' where many of his key ideas are presented in a cogent verse form. It opens: 'All that we are is the result of what we have thought' and each of the 26 sections is clearly introduced. Also included on this recording are other key Buddhist concepts illustrated by original texts. A unique concept recording.
This is a book that definitelly requires lot of reflection while reading. The summaries in the begining of each chapter are really good and necessary, but the other texts are still challenging at times. I think I need to get back to this books after a couple of months. Good introduction to buddhas teachings.
A very nice introduction to some of the most interesting Buddhist concepts. The books goes passages from the core texts and clearly explains what is meant there. The reader gets a taste of the ideas from a variety of texts. This makes the reader interested and ready to explore further.
Nice collection, from the point of view of a reader ignorant of Buddhism, in collecting some of the most essential writings of the Buddha, featuring the Dhammapada. Three narrators present this audio presentation from Naxos. In terms of writing, again from this perspective, it is a quality collection and introduction to the way of Buddhism. As a performance, it's a shame that the worst narrator was given the most speaking time; Otherwise, it was nicely done.
