Having lived all her life in the suburbs of Chicago, Illinois, author Bree M. Lewandowski incorporates all aspects of her life in her writing. A ballet dancer at a young age, continuing to teach ballet through her career as an author, she often turns to the tumultuous world of dance to find threads of a story. In love with classical literature, her writing not only pays homage to the style of writers like Dumas and Hugo, she also believes in creating main characters who are larger than life. Yet, struggles with body image, mental and emotional health, and the strained relationships so many have also play in and out of Lewandowski's writing. In the end, all these attributes combined, she loves to tell a love story.

This is one of those stories that I’m having trouble reviewing. I liked it, I thought it was interesting and had me think. It felt as though something was missing and I can’t quite put my finger on what. The story is quick - about 20 pages. Give it a try, see what you think.

*This honest review is written in exchange of an ARC provided by the author on December 30, 2018*

Note: This is a short, standalone story (about twenty pages). It is NOT a prequel to a future story.

Synopsis: Leon, a bartender, down on his luck just can’t get away from finding stars in his everyday life, whether it be the mention of his nieces holiday play, A Star In Bethelhem, or a star shaped perfume bottle from his one night stand. Trying to ignore the signs that seem to be following him, Leon takes his friend up on an offer to get away for a weekend. However, even when he isn’t close to home, the stars have a different plan for him. By following the stars, Leon ultimately saves another human being from an ill-fitted fate out of their control. Has it always been written in the stars for Leon to end up in a dark alley on that cold winter night?

Review: Constellations is my first story I have read from this particular author. I believe that this story is well written, however, due to the shortness of it, you don’t really get a feel of who Leon really is. There’s little background on him and what we do know is jam packed in. The story itself is “wordy” and there’s very little dialogue between characters. I feel there was information we really didn’t need, for example, every drink a group of housewives likes to order on their weekly night out. I didn’t really understand the ending and why the stars led him to find what he did in the alley. The story is left with a cliffhanger resulting in unanswered questions that we will never get due to the novel being complete as a standalone.

I have read many books by this wonderful author. This book didn't disappoint. If you are looking for a quick read and a feel good story then this is the book for you. Constellations is a short story about a bartender named Leon. Not one who believes in signs he is finding himself seeing stars everywhere. The development of the story was well done, the charactors well written - leaving you to know who was who and what they did. Finally, deciding there is a reason for everything Leon finally starts to accept the stars. Follow him down his path of enlightenment. Oh yes and don't forget the White Cat - even though the cat appears only in a few sentences you will remember him and what he helped Leon with. This is a feel good story, quick and fast read and though it is 20 pages you will enjoy reading it.

Constellations is a short (around 20 pages) novella revolving around Leon.

Do you believe that fate gives us signs to follow that may change our lives or the lives of someone else?
Leon has been seeing stars everywhere. He can't seem to get away from them whether he's on his way to work, sitting at home watching television, and even when he gets away from town to take a break the star signs still follow him everywhere.
What could the stars be leading Leon to? Will he finally follow the signs?

While I knew this was going to be short going into the reading this, I still felt a bit disconnected from the story as a whole. 20 pages isn't a whole lot of time to really get to "know" a character, even though this author tried to cram more of Leon's history into the pages.

I loved this short story about Leon, a bartender who's living a mostly ordinary life until he's plagued by something strange: stars keep jumping out at him! They appear on a billboard, a song on the radio, a print on a shirt, the shape of a perfume bottle, a menu, a customer's last name, even the title of his niece's school play. Leon is downright paranoid about being followed by stars. Is he going crazy?

Hoping a change of scene might help, he drives to a weekend conference at a small town, where he's led by a prayer and a mysterious white cat to a miraculous discovery. What is it? Find out by reading this heartwarming story, which earns five bright stars from me!

Don't Ignore the Signs

What signs do you notice every day that you might be ignoring? This was a very cute, short read about signs and faith. It was such an interesting journey this character took but I was expecting such a bigger reveal. Some who read this may think, what is bigger than the reveal given? Honestly, I don't know. It was just an abrupt ending and I wanted to delve deeper. That's my expectations and maybe I would have enjoyed it more had I left those expectations at the door once I knew where the story might lead. Still, this read was interesting.

This was a pretty cool story it was very short about 20 pages. About a guy named Leon who's a bartender. He's just kinda going through life through the motions. Not one to believe in signs or any of the mumbo jumbo he's seeing stars in everything it seems. He's kinda freaked out about it. This was so short it was disappointing in a way because I kinda thought there would be something big at the end or you know "something" but it just kinda ended. It wasnt a bad story but just wanted more.

Wow! Finished this short story in a breeze, and my first thought was...wow! This author did an amazing job of creating the perfect scenario to keep a reader glued to these pages. I was led to its conclusion without ever realizing the end was rapidly coming. And the end truly took me by surprise! This is the perfect read for a quick lunch break pick me up! All my reviews are always voluntarily written.

A very beautiful cover!

Wow, this book (short story) was the fastest read like ever. Less than 20 minutes. So, if you guys are interested in a fast read, pick this baby up. It would give you a chance to see how Bree writes. I read her other books and I have to say she's a great writer.

This story was confusing to me but it has great meaning. I'm glad Leon listened to the stars.

What a fun book to read. I was wondering where the constellations were going to lead us and they lead us in a way I never would have expected. Very enjoyable, quick read.

This was a well written and precious little story about listening to those small nagging suspicions because they could just be of grave importance in ways you have yet to realize. Listen to your heart.

Leon is seeing stars...everywhere and in everything, to the point he's freaking out. Little does he know it's leading to something incredible.
