Suddenly, I’m sent on a quest to find the ancient spell to protect the Stone. My only hope for surviving is through my strikingly beautiful and immensely powerful Guardian, Tucker. The laws of Evermore state that love between us is strictly forbidden , and it appears I’m the only one willing to give in to the attraction … When the quest turns more dangerous than expected I realize I have absolutely no idea what I’m doing. I was raised human. But I have to learn my magic fast because If King Alataris gets his hands on me he’ll steal my magic and my life…but if he gets his hands on that Stone we all die . Fans of Twilight, Harry Potter, or The Dark Artifices will love Megan Montero’s brand new urban fantasy series! Pick up Wicked Witch and join the supernatural world of Evermore today!
I surprisingly really liked this. Different enough to not be something I've read a thousand times over and still very much unique in certain ways. Well written and pretty fleshed out world wise and characters wise. Looking forward to reading more.
After starting and DNF’ing three books in a row, I finally found one that managed to catch my interest. While I wouldn’t call it a masterpiece, it was an absolute lifesaver—at least it saved me from my reading slump!
I have to say, Harry Potter really paved the way for magic academy books, and I am here for it. I love seeing how different authors put their own twists on this fantasy trope, creating fresh and exciting stories.
This one is a YA with a fiery FMC and a strong MMC. As long as the FMC isn’t so fiery that she crosses into the “too stupid to live” territory, and the MMC has enough depth to balance out his strength, I think they’ll both end up being pretty likable characters.
The main plot is still a little confusing for me, but I’m starting to get a feel for it. There’s definite potential here, and I’m curious enough to continue with the series and see where it goes!
I loved this book. It was soo captivating that I didn't want to put it down and, I definitely didn't want it to end. There was only one thing I didn't like about this book. The ending. It left me on such a biggg cliffhanger, I don't know what I would have done if the next sequel was not there.
2.5 to 3 stars for me. Fast mostly enjoyable read with a quick moving plot. It was a little blink and you'll miss it with the backstory as well as the departing of information to the FMC. This made the story a little lacking in richness for me but all in all it was a pretty decent read. I thought for a good hot minute we were headed to RHville which is fine with me but books that look like they might head that way and never do always tend to get my hopes up a tad.. I don't know why this happens because books that have no hint of it don't disappoint me when they aren't RH. Its weird is all I'm saying. The FMC was ok character wise but a little on the hostile side at times.
Zin, fmc, has spent her whole life moving from place to place. Always the new girl. One night before her 17th birthday she sneaks out only to be attacked and thrust into a supernatural world. Apparently her mother has been hiding her, her whole life. Not only does she have magic.. but she is a queen of her kind. A witch with extraordinary powers in her field. Now running for her life with the help of some new acquaintances they rush to the witch academy for safety. It seems its too late though. The evil king has found her and wants her powers for her own. Even more unfortunate for Zin it seems that the evil king is pulling a Darth vadar.. and has taken off with her mother. Now Zin along with the other queens and their protectors must find a way to save her mother and dispose of the evil king before its too late. Or before she goes and does something stupid like fall in love with her protector.. because its forbidden.
The story was a fast read and there is some startings of what could be good chemistry between Tucker and Zin. I'm not in a huge hurry to continue on. The book ended up being on the I liked it side of ok for me.
I put this book down for a little while (a week, maybe a bit longer) and when I picked it back up.... I remembered nothing from it. So 🥴
Maybe I’ll restart this someday, since I did want to read the spin-off series. Until then, I’ll go look for something else to read.
Take this with a grain of salt, my memory is terrible so maybe it’s a me thing. Regardless, because I remember absolutely nothing from this book, that’s why I’m DNFing it.
So where do I even begin I am hooked, I want and need more. This book is captivating I didn't want to put it down like ever and I definitely didn't want it to end. I loved every aspect of it and I highly recommend this as I'm sure everyone will love it as much as I did. The storyline is on point and it has what every romance in my opinion should have a delicious bad boy who is forbidden WHAT 😍😍😍 add this with zinnia being your average girl only to find out she isn't so average after all. Wow just wow
bibbidi-bobbidi-boo mother******!!!😈 Loved it!!!! These witches be real!! Snarky, powerful, and bada**!! Thank you angie and mona my book besties for making me read this book! About dam time i know! So good!!! It had me hook from the beginning! If you like witches with hardcore spells, attitude and a whole lot of action this one is for you! Also, slow burn romance thats forbidden but it shouldn’t be 😱😭
This book has potential. There is a nice storyline there, good characters, however the author needs some more work on developing them both.
I read all 5 books in this series and have gone to download the next series: The Royals: Warlock Court. However, something holds me back from reading further and continuing the story. It might be the fact that the books feel too rushed, the action scenes not very well explained; the books do not grip and hold me, they do not give me the feeling of cannot put the book down.
Also, the author has chosen to emphasize too much the bond between her two main characters, Zinnia and Tuck. Every other page, it is all about them.
The major, major disappointment though is the spelling/grammar use in these books. It is as if they were published without even having an editor look through them. That really astounded me as they feel like a 10-year-old could have written better.
2,5 Sterne
A magical first installment Zinnia is the Queen of Essence- a witch queen hidden and protected by her mother through out her earlier years never staying in one place for more than six months in fear of her discovery! Never really experiencing much of life (that she can remember ;-) ) until one fateful night when she sneaks out to a party with her friends....
While this sounds like a over done premise, girl thrust into unknown magical world, it's executed incredibly well. I thoroughly enjoyed reading about her journey into discovering she's a witch and although I understood why her mum did what she did and that it came from a place of love I couldn't agree with it.
I love the spells and creativity used by the author in her world building reanimants, thralls and lifemates which brought more life to the story and held me captivated. Although I have to admit my little guilty pleasure for this book was the developing relationship between Tucker and Zinnia I'm a sucker for forbidden romance
unruly auburn hair framed his chiseled face, and when he looked at me with sparkling tawny eyes, I wanted to drift closer to him
I mean if that wasn't I great intro for him... I can't wait to read the next instalment of the royals: witch court saga, this is similar in both style and elements to Chandelle LaVauns novels so if your a fan of hers this is most definitely a read for you.
This was a really good story and a fast read. Started it last night around 10 pm and finished around 1:15 this morning.
The premise is a fairly common one - a girl is raised in the modern world having no idea she's a witch, then just before her 16th birthday she has some experiences that reveals a whole new world to her. She discovers things like witches, sorcerers, vampires, shifters, and Elves are real. She's being hunted by the big baddie - in this case a very powerful sorcerer who wants her and the others like her. He's a typical power-hungry, insane baddie. She's a witch, not just any old witch but a very powerful Queen Witch and on her 16th birthday she must go through ascension and accept her powers. She has to go to this exclusive magical school so she's protected. And she has a soul mate but doesn't know it. Her soul mate is a "knight" whose job is to protect the queens and romance between a queen and a knight is strictly forbidden.
There is action from the beginning of the story and it continues through to the cliffhanger ending. The good news is that this is a completed series so I don't have to wait for the next book. The writing is good and the world building as well as character development is also good. Not 5 star great, but 3-4 star good. I'm looking forward to starting the next book today.
Holy Moly, I was not expecting to fall in love with this series. Is there any way to give this novel more than 5-stars.
I was completely drawn into this world by Ms. Montero. I love Zin and Tucker. The characters are so sassy, fun and relateable even though they are all supernatural beings. I absolutely love school setting and forbidden romance. Even the relationship with Zin and the other girls is precarious!
The twists and turns that this novel took have left me shook. I have so many questions and concerns for the main characters. I want everyone to get a happily ever after; but after the battles that ensued with this first installment...I honestly don't know where the next novel will take us.
I cannot wait to read more from these characters and this world. Highly addicted already eep! This novel is a must read, I cannot recommend this first novel enough. Cannot wait to be done work tomorrow to start book 2 and the novella :)!
Loved this book, so much! The chemistry between Tucker & Zinnia is as good as S.A.'s Asher & Maddison. I couldn't get enough of their attraction. And finding out they are forbidden to be together just makes it that more steamy! Zinnia has moved every 6 months for her entire life, can you imagine? She unfortunately finds out it wasn't for her mom's job the hard way. When she & her friend are surrounded on a walk home. Then suddenly some people she met at a party show up to help. However, she is blown away with the fight that breaks out because it's like nothing she's ever seen before. The only way to describe it is magic! When her mom shows up to knock out, so she won't remember a thing. Or will she? Find out in this fast paced, adventurous, magic filled land with lots of "eye candy." (sexy guys) Now if you'll excuse me I am going to start the next one!
Oh my! Get ready for a wild adventure with this series. This book is seriously addictive. From the moment I started reading it I was hooked. Poor Zinnia had been lied to her whole life by her mom. I could kinda understand her mom's thinking, but knowledge is power. She may have been at least a little prepared for her life imploding. I thought Tucker was gorgeous. No wonder everyone wanted him to notice them and he only has eyes for Zin. Get ready for a fantastic story. I was so invested in this story I was crushed when it ended. Zin has more power than she knows what to do with and no clue how to use it. I want him to tell her his secret. I think it will help everyone. I wholeheartedly recommend this book and can't tell you how excited I am for the next book.
The storyline sounded interesting but the execution lacked something. There was no characters development and the romance was weak/mediocre. The mc learned she was a witch then she goes to the academy right after.
The story was told instead of showing. Couldn't connect with the characters. Nothing special about the mc since she was just another witch Queens. I like my story to have a heroine that is the main protagonist and to be special. Felt like the story was written as a serial and did not focused on the h personal growth of power. Too fast pace that it missed the emotions showing. This series is not for me I guess. DNF...
By the end of this book, Zin must be made of titanium. Attacked by monsters she never knew existed. In love with a boy she can't have. Feared by all because she's been bestowed by the most powerful magic ever, not that she was given a choice. Her mother is kidnapped, and her father's a complete lunatic wanting to steal her magic. If you're going to find yourself thrust into an unknown world, might as well be right off the deep end. You'll barely get a chance to catch your breath with book, only to find yourself reaching for the next one with both hands.
Nope I did not see a comparison with this authors work and Chandelle Lavaun, who is one of my faves. Sure the theme was recycled just like a billion other authors works, but its the telling that captures the reader. The story is certainly action packed. I didnt even realise I was nearing the end until it ended. Can't say its a fave yet, but kept me interested til the wee hours of the next morning. Certainly looking forward to the next episode where the shocker ending can hopefully give me closure. And maybe that whole Elle and Brax thing can get some clarity cos even though she's the bestie, I kinda wished she had a bigger role, like all besties do.
Witches, fallen angels, shifters, sirens, hidden worlds – this book has it all.
I immensely enjoyed this book. It has echoes of all my favourite YA books, but it’s a story, a world and characters all of its own.
Zin can be so brave and responsible, only to act like the sixteen-year-old she is. A well-crafted character. And I love her wardrobe!
The way the casts, the guardians and everything else fits together makes one want to read more.
A fun read. There are a few issues (pacing, too much showing, and added plot points at the end) but for a bit of light entertainment, it is highly recommended.
I was a little sceptical at first about this book. But after starting it, I couldn't put it down. I wanted to know more about Zin, as well as Tucker Brand and the other Knights. They are all so amazing and well developed. The Knights are all different but like a family but serving one main purpose, to keep the Witch Queens alive and don't break the forbidden rule. I can't wait to read the rest of the books and find out if Tucker's little secret is finally brought to light and what will happen when it does.
As a huge fan of the classic stereo typical witch Book series, I felt the originality of the author’s opinions, statements, characters and overall scene Descriptions. It really transported me to where ever these characters went! If you are a big fan of Harry Potter, the sweep series, the secret circle series or any other magical witchy romantic series, this is the book for you. I hope I will enjoy the second book as much as I did the first and I hope everyone else enjoys it the same.
This plot had some promise but I feel like the author skimmed through the story. Characters were barely explained and they all meshed together. You go from one scene to the next without any depth to the telling. I gave it three stars as it still caught my attention but the delivery and lack of depth resulted in loss of stars. If you want a very light read and don’t mind an explanation of events as oppose to the feeling of “living” it, then this is the book for you.
I absolutely loved 🥰 this book, it was definitely a page turning, nail biting, drive me crazy kinda of book. I couldn’t put it down, I fell asleep reading at 4 am, because I started it at 3 am.... after reading. The Cursed Witch (The Coven: Fae Magic Book 1)a because I’m waiting for book 2 to comes out.. I did not realize I would finish reading this book in less than a day 😂😂😂😂
Definitely recommend this book, just found myself another great author...,
I thoroughly enjoyed Zinnia and her team as she discovers her true self and becomes the baddie who is strong enough to do the one thing no one else has been able to do in a century. Her pluck does not go unrewarded as she stands her ground and fights for what she believes in. I was really surprised at how clean the language and character interactions were. Sometimes, in this genre, things can get a little spicy, but I was refreshed to find the characters enjoying romance while truly saving their world. Great book!
I enjoyed this book. I liked the characters, and there's a nice twist at the end. I will be reading the next one. So why only 3 stars?
Well, the copy editing was abysmal. There are a lot of misspelled words. Grammar and punctuation errors often distracted from the story. Spell check only works if the misspelling isn't a word in its own right. If you want respect as an author, get someone to proofread your work.
Zin has just found out she's a witch queen. There's a whole supernatural world out there that she knew nothing about until it tried to kill her. Now, banding together with her fellow Queens, Zin has to quickly learn how to use her powers. The only thing keeping Evermore safe is the Stone that shields the witch kingdoms from Alataris’s magic…and now he’s found a way to steal it. So, Zin has to steal it first so she can help save the friends she's just made and the home she's just found.
This is a wonderful beginning to this series. You are hooked from the first page right until the last page. Zinnia is such a loving and strong woman. Finding out you are a witch and then to be told out you are responsible for saving the world is a lot to learn. Meeting your soulmate but being told you can't have any relationship is such a hard thing to bare. I love this series and can't wait to begin number two. Onward and upward.
This book was somewhat entertaining as it is fast paced, but it is so predictable. There are giant plot holes, and not enough character development. All the details are very glossed over and vague. How does the FMC go from knowing nothing to beating the big baddie after 3 days of knowing she's a witch? I enjoy books that move quickly, but this doesn't even make sense. The spelling and grammar mistakes are very annoying.
I could not put this book down. I finished it in a day! So good! MC Zinnia and her mom have settled for the hundredth time close to her friend Elle. But she doesn't get to enjoy it when Ophelia comes for her. If you like forbidden love, magic, and some unexpected events this book is it. I'm ready for book 2 that's for sure.
