Люблю імпресіонізм, і куди ж тут без Моне) Єдина книжка з цієї серії, яка в мене наразі є, бо попередні митці в ній мене не так цікавили.

Ця книжка зробила мене трохи щасливішою. Видання просто неймовірне, ілюстрації і жива розповідь про життя художника заставили мене пильніше придивитися до імпресіонізму та нарешті здатися і визнати - це божественно. Читати, розглядати і брати з полиці знову і знову.❤️ Всім Моне!

Якщо коротко.
Свічнувся з карикатуриста до мариніста. Хейтив майстерні, творив просто неба. Купив тополі, щоб їх домалювати. Мало не помер від хвиль, щоб змовити вдалий ракурс скель Етрета. Робив інстаграмні полотна, до того, як це стало мейстрімом.
Пройшов шлях від «о ні, ми ніколи не візьмему вашу картину в салон, вона огидна і незавершена» до «о боже що це? 48 картин з лататтям? вони прекрасні, беру усі!».
Моне, такий Моне.
Зустрінемся в д'Орсе.

Monet’nin hayatını anlatan ve eserlerinden bahseden güzel bir kitaptı. Beni sıkmayan keyifli ve akıcı bir okumaydı. İllüstrasyonlar çok başarılıydı. Monet hakkında ne kadar bilgi sahibi olursanız olun, okunmaya değecek bir kitap.

Погане виконання здатне повністю знівелювати прочитане. Це я про кричущі невідповідності в особах, адаптації та мові перекладу в цілому. Старий Лев розчарував чи не найперше так сильно, а Моне, з його особистим прагненням до завершеності творів і їх відповідності засмучувався разом зі мною. От такі бувають парадокси.

hồi đó mình bị ấn tượng lầm lạc là mình thích tranh monet lắm vì mình té vô tình iu với bức tranh đầu tiên mà mình thấy của ổng: đại lộ capucines https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bouleva...
trong cơn sốt mùa xuân hầm hập đến quẫn trí, bức tranh đã đập vô mặt mình như câu quote ngôn lù: "Trong căn phòng yên tĩnh này, hồi ức hất vào mặt như sóng to gió lớn không chút nể tình." dù mình không có hồi ức gì với nó?
sau đó vì sốt nên mình đi ngủ, rồi khi ngủ mình mơ thấy đại lộ paris nhập làm một với đường hai bà trưng, đường võ văn tần, đường nguyễn du, đường trương định, đường nguyễn văn thủ... vân vân và mây mây, một giấc mơ không lan quin mà tan nát cõi lòng : ))
rồi mình không bao giờ dám coi tranh ổng nữa =))) (vì mình làm biếng mà nói vậy cho sang)

Cuộc đời hoạ sỹ thú vị, cá tính nhưng vẫn ôn hoà. Tác phẩm phác hoạ một số nét chính, dĩ nhiên là không đi vào chi tiết, có thể đọc xong trong vòng 30 phút nếu tập trung.
Dịch giả dùng từ có nét cổ cổ, thích hợp cho việc kể về cuộc đời hoạ sỹ.
(Lý do ban đầu tìm đọc vì có một số nữ trang hiệu Monet :) vô tình mua được nên muốn tìm hiểu.) Đọc xong thì có nhu cầu mua nguyên bộ chủ đề cuộc đời và tác phẩm các danh hoạ về đọc cho vui.
Tuy nhiên nếu sách có nhiều hình các tác phẩm thì thích hơn.

Ця книжка із серії “This is” мені поки сподобалася найбільше. Чи то повпливало те, що ми з мамою натрапили на картини Моне у Копенгагені, чи я нарешті зрозуміла в якому захопленні від імпресіоністів чи неймовірно цікаве і сповнене життя художника. Тепер я, звісно, мрію побачити “Латаття”..

Ознайомлююча версія біографії Моне , з деякими ілюстраціями його робіт. Серед фактів які були мені цікаві так це більш ніж 2000 виконаних робіт , серед яких були цикли по 100 робіт на одну тему , зокрема Латаття. Жив наш герой переважно в Париді чи в околицях , але також встиг пожити в Лондоні і Голандії. Був одним з представників імпресіонізму , а свої картини любив малювати на природі за будь якої погоди , лише щоб вловити потрібні кольори. Прожив довге життя , і помер в 86 років небідною людиною , хоча першу половину життя перебивався на заробітки від проданих картин. А так як часто виставки не хотіли брати його робіт бо вважали їх незакінченими йому жилось складно. Мав велику сім’ю , двоє своїх дітей , а згодом після смерті колеги опікувався ще й шістьма його дітьми. В ХХ століття ввійшов доволі знаменитим , і в творчому і фінансовому плані бо прикупив земельні ділянки де насолоджувався власним ставком. Також його вважають послідовником Мане ,бо творив картини подібної тематики, що було для мене цікаво. Роботи Моне модна побачити переважно в музеях Парижа , але є вони також в містах США, Лондона та приватних колекціях.

Багато ілюстрацій, мало тексту. Круто, що такі книги почали перекладати українською. Побільше видавали б книг про мистецтво.
Хотілося б менше граматичних помилок.
Але завдяки цим ілюстраціям - можна багато вибачити.

Цікаво і послідовно розровідається про життя знаменитого художника, цю оповідь чудово доповнюють ілюстрації, а також картини самого митця. Книжку читала з задоволення, а ще з більшим задоволенням передивлялась саме оформлення видання)

Unlike Renoir who's one of five children of a tailor father and a seamstress mother, Monet was lucky to have quite some financial support (from his kind hearted aunty) in his first a few years involved in art... Art is expensive, especially back in 200 years, even for Europeans.
After "Women in a Garden" was refused by the 1867 Salon, one of Monet's wealthy friends, Bazille, bought this piece, which helped him a bit from his financial difficulties. LOL, you should really have several wealthy friends if you've decided to get involved in art. Sorry it's not "refused", it's "rejected". Guess it's a lot of difference between these two
LOLs. And when Monet asked his father and kind-hearted aunt for financial help, they were adamant that if he wanted their money he should have nothing to do with Camille (cliche) despite Claude Adolphe himself secretly had an illegitimate child (now this part is juicy)
And Claude Adolphe has a last name of Monet, he's Oscar-Claude Monet's father. Oscar-Claude Monet is THE painter that I'm reading about. Plus let me introduce Claude Adolphe Monet's brother, Claude Pascal Léonard Magne Monet, by any chance he's name is also Caulde Monet.

Baby Jean was born on 8 August 1867, when Monet was 25 years old. Okay, quite a reasonable age for someone's first child I guess? Hmmm Claude Monet was born on 14 Nov 1840, so he's actually 26 instead of 25 (I got it 25 cuz he was aged 22 when the photograph by Etienne Carjat was taken in 1864 according to the book)
“Each thing has its characteristic, stroke and yet nothing is drawn - line and colour have become one. Monet submitted some of his grenouillère paintings to the salon in 1870. Once again they were rejected." Well, being ahead of your time is painful when you're in it. "He also established what was to become a lifelong love of things British, especially tweed and tea." I get the tea part, but I though it's you French people that invented tweed? Or it's just Chanel that made it famous to the whole world? "Monet also painted pictures of Camille and Jean, in which the sun always appears to be shining and harmony reigns. The colours are particularly bright and bold, with vermillion red dominating complementary greens."
Ahh if that's not love I don't know what is then. So sweet, people in love. You cannot hide your love for someone. Even if you shut your mouth, it appears in your eyes. You have "I like you" written in your eyes when you look at them. Oops, am I talking about myself right now?
"One critic, Louis Leroy, in an attempt to insult the exhibitors whose work he despised, took Monet's title and call them the Impressionists. The name stuck, but the insult did not." Ahh that's a fun fact, the famous name of this genre originally comes from hostile.
"Rue Montorgueil", 30 Jun 1878, by Claude Monet. I don't like this one. I guess it's a very subjective impression of mine. I don't like Monet's paintings that are with a lot of people, or objects. But on the contrary, I like Renoir's patins that are rich in content. For example, "Le Déjeuner Des Canotiers" ("Luncheon of the Boating Party") is a very new experience for me to find Renoir can have so many people and objects but still so delicate, and beautiful in a lively way. Renoir may be famous for his portraits, especially portraits for one but to me, I like Monet's pieces that are with less "subject".
"Although Alice (unlike Camille) is never seen in Monet's paintings, she does appear to have taken an active interest in his work, and her favourable response clearly mattered to him: 'I feel when I am painting that I want to give you the pleasure of it. To let you see what I am seeing and that makes me do things well." Poor Alice, does that ring a bell that he doesn't love you at all? Never have you in his paintings, sighs, poor girl. "He's just not that into you".
The more I read this book, a very simple introduction to Monet's life the more I dislike him as a person. I guess I should really stop reading biographies, just focus on the work itself. Every time I read biography, the experience is pretty bad. I'm fine with just being a fan of their work, I don't want to know anything about the maker as a person at all.
In December 1883 Monet set off with Renoir for the Mediterranean coast. But he he struggle to produce paintings that satisfied him. So he returned to Riviera, to Bordighera, and asked his dealer to keep it a secret from Renoir. Dude, that's very terrible behaviour! Even though you claimed that you "always worked better alone, from my own impression", it's still so rude and maybe selfish! Dude! Why are you such a terrible person!
"In these works, painted from his studio boat, Monet suggests the iridescent quality of dawn light on soft tree forms reflected in water. Monet must have been aware that the misty suggestiveness of these paintings is similar to those made by French landscape's founding fathers Claude Lorrain and Camille Corot." I have strong feeling that this paragraph is suggesting something, but I don't know for sure.
"Branch of the Seine, near Giverny" 1897 by Claude Monet in Musée Marmottan Monet, Paris. Ahh I like this one a lot, I have to see it in the museum in person.
"In Giverny, Monet became something of a local celebrity when he purchased some land to stop the building of factories adjacent to the village. He also painted for school prizes and a playground. Such generous actions were not entirely without self-interest. Monet gained support from the mayor, who consequently rebuffed villagers' complaints regarding the diversion of a local river to feed Monet's lily pond." Okay, let's not be too critical or harsh. Artists are also humans. They deserve some human rights such as being selfish a bit.

He lent money to Pissarro, supported Sisley's family after he dies, bought paintings from struggling friends such as Cézanne and Berthe Morisot and campaigned for Manet and Gustave Caillebotte's paintings to be exhibited in national galleries. He also supported his friends Zola when he controversially defended Alfred Dreyfus." Wait, where is Renoir? And Van Gogh? We all know Van Gogh lived his last few years sad and penniless, since Monet is such a generous friend of everybody, why was he not helped? And Renoir? Did they stop being friends? I Googled and Renoir was still alive at this period. Why he's so seldonly mentioned? Oh mine, why am I reading biographies like detective fictions?
After Alice died, for the first time Monet struggled to paint. For nearly 2 years he felt so depressed and full of self-doubt that he made barely half a dozen paintings. As he told Durand-Ruel (his dealer) "age and sorrow have drained my strength... more than ever today, I realise how artificial is this undeserved fame I have won." sorry I was wrong earlier, about Monet's feelings to Alice. After all, it's hard to judge by reading some tiny simple introduction. And I'm just so judgemental.
Reading this brief introduction of Monet's life (I would not take this book as a serious biography), it feels like watching a long movie about how Monet grows up, started his art career, lived his life. He is a great artist, indeed. After finishing reading the whole book I look back to the paintings of Monet in this book, each and every of them looks so beautiful, and so inspiring. Great artist he surely is. And I like this book. It's not too serious a biography, and with a lot of illustrations and images, people never learned anything about art, like me, can still read through not feeling boring or too deep. The paintings chosen are not all the most famous ones so you can something refreshing about it, instead of thinking "okay everyone knows this, didn't he paint anything else?" at mind.

Моне, для мене, це любов назавжди з першої побаченої картини - Враження: схід сонця, 1872 р. Але, якось так склалося, що його біографією я ніколи надто детально не цікавилася. Можу сказати одне, що після прочитання цієї книги я полюбила його ще більше!
Такої відданої своїй справі людини годі й шукати. Тільки подумайте кожного дня прокидатися о пів на четверту ранку, щоб наживо встигнути замалювати перші промінчики сходу сонця!
Звісно ж, вдало додані фотографії, ілюстрації Од Ван Рин та картини самого Моне є надзвичайними прикрасами книги. Їх хочеться розглядати та розглядати. Також присутні цитати самого Клода, витяги з листування та думки його близького і не дуже оточення.

Attractively hard bound and easy to read "This is Monet" by Sara Pappworth is a worthwhile introduction to one of the most famous Impressionists. Written in a lively conversational tone, the hour I spent absorbed in its text and visuals was as pleasant as one of the paintings portrayed. Aude Van Ryn's illustrations of Monet's life in Paris from 1859-61, the "Chasseurs d'Afrique" ("the army"), and many renditions of his painting jaunts made his masterpieces come alive.
Struck by the exqusiteness of "The Pointe de la Heve at Low Tide" (1865) and "Bathers at La Grenouilliere" (1869) because of Monet's interpretation and scale, and the elements, I was most impressed by how diligently he pursued his art. If the "Pont de l'Europe Gare Sant Lazare" (1877) is any indication of his work ethic it's no wonder he's still so relevant to today's contemporary artists and the art loving public.

Đọc xong cuốn sách này cảm giác như vừa xem xong 1 cuộn phim ngắn về cuộc đời của Monet vậy: nó vừa đủ thông tin để cho người đọc không cần nghiên cứu quá chuyên sâu cái nhìn tổng quan về sự nghiệp cũng như tác phẩm của ông. Cuộc đời của người nghệ sĩ hiện lên với từng cung bậc cảm xúc thăng, trầm qua những sự kiện, cột mốc mà ông đã trải qua. Ngoài ra, hình minh hoạ trong cuốn sách này cũng là 1 yếu tố gia vị đưa đẩy cảm xúc độc giả. Điểm trừ lớn nhất là phần những tác phẩm của Monet được in với chất lượng không tốt cùng gam màu tối khiến mình không thể cảm nhận được độ trong trẻo trong tranh Monet cũng như sự tinh tế, tài tình trong việc miêu tả các hiệu ứng của ánh sáng lên chủ thể của ông.

Khâm phục về ý chí kiên định của ông khi ông vẫn luôn trung thành với đường lối đã định - trường phái Ấn tượng, vào thời điểm mà nó khai sinh. Khiến mình nhớ đến một câu thoại (của một cuốn sách khác) quá đúng với ông nên xin được trích dẫn ở đây: "Nếu cậu đã chọn được một con đường thì hãy can đảm bước đi. Đừng trở thành một kẻ chỉ giư��ng mắt nhìn ủ ê, không làm gì ngoài than thở 'chẳng có gì thay đổi cả'. Hãy tiếp tục hành trình của riêng cậu. Giống như Melos đã không ngừng chạy tới cùng".

Compared to the book about Van Gogh which I finished just before this, Monet's book was noticeably brighter as he led a pretty successful life in terms of his career as an artist although he also had his personal low points. I liked the parts where the background story behind some of his signature works were explained and understanding how his painting style changed as he aged. In all, it's a very interesting book although I think it was a bit wordy at times.

Một quyển sách được đầu tư về hình minh hoạ, đi kèm với nhiều tác phẩm nổi bật của Monet. Đây cũng là một cuốn sách phù hợp với những ai muốn tìm hiểu nhanh về cuộc đời của Monet, bởi sự ngắn gọn, súc tích. Chỉ một điểm trừ là bản dịch này có lẽ không quá xuất sắc để truyền tải được hết.

Cũng khá hay, biết thêm nhiều về tiểu sử và của Monet cũng như những hoàn cảnh tác động đến nghệ thuật của ông. Tuy nhiên nếu muốn ngắm nhiều tranh của Monet thì đây có lẽ không phải cuốn sách phù hợp.
