At first, I was a bit hesitant to start reading this manga because I'd recently ended up with a few that didn't really match my taste, so I was skeptical about this one. But, it turns out my doubts were completely unfounded, and I ended up enjoying it way more than I expected.
The premise is pretty simple: it's about someone struggling to move on with life after a breakup, feeling increasingly lonely. Yeah, it's a pretty straightforward and common theme. However, I think the author did a great job of presenting it in a beautiful and subtle way. There aren't any overly romantic declarations or cutesy panels; everything feels natural, just enough, and fitting—in a positive sense.
Even though the narrative can get a bit messy at times, which might make it a bit challenging to follow, it actually adds to the feeling that the story is being told by someone lonely and dealing with their own chaotic thoughts.
What I love most about this manga is how the author uses the train journey as a metaphor for the main character's life journey. Throughout the journey, they meet and part ways with other passengers. I think it's a beautiful metaphor for describing human life and relationships.
The way this story is told is really interesting. It's a bit confusing especially the whole Campella thing, but I ended up really liking it when I figured it out.
It's kind of messily told, but that fits with Kanou's personality. I think the way his depression, anxiety, and over thinking is portrayed is done really well. It felt realistic. The back and forth of the story was jarring and the passage of time felt weird, and sometimes Kanou or other characters did things that made me go "huh??" but overall I really liked the story. I feel like this is a story that has to be read multiple times.
Ya know, this story is kinda gripping when Kanou isn't fawning over a high school kid or being dismissive towards Kodama.
Reading his creep ass thoughts about this high schooler really messed up my enjoyment so much. I get that he was mixing admiration with love because he felt saved by someone's kindness; I've gone through that as well. But I really couldn't stand being in his head whenever he thought about the high school kid or even just when the high schooler was on page. Honestly, Kodama could've filled this role; it would've been less creepy.
I just will never understand why teen/adult is ok as long as the teen is 18. It's creepy predator shit, man.
