Bonnie Randall began scribbling stories in coil-bound notebooks around the age of 9—entertaining herself with tales of wicked dolls, evil grandmothers…and romantic knights and damsels who eventually lived Happily Ever After. All these years later, much has changed yet nothing has changed at all; Bonnie is still a sucker for true love, soulmates, smudgy shadows, and things that go bump in the night. A clinical social worker and professional speaker, Bonnie knows that relationships—whether with other people or with our environments—shape our souls and craft what, ultimately, is the ‘Human Experience’. And a Scorpio to the core, Bonnie’s passion is, well, passion—and mysticism, mysteries, creepiness, and all things arcane. Her stories explore what love looks like in the face of paranormal peril, for ‘Till Death Do Us Part’ is only an illusion, isn’t it? After all—we all know true love never dies…

Within The Summit's Shadow is fast paced, "hold on to your hat" kind of reading. Set in some familiar settings for me (Edmonton and Jasper) I could see and smell everything that Bonnie described. I could actually feel the sweat. I felt like an innocent bystander, but at the same time, I wanted to scream "Just look in the friggin' bag!!!!!" Bonnie knows how to articulate a figurative gut punch. She also knows how to write a love story. Numerous twists and turns that kept me turning faster and faster.
A phycological thriller with paranormal elements that will hold your interest to the end. Mystery on top of mystery takes the plot through twists and turns. Perfect for those who love chasing after red herrings.
Love, love, love it! First off, I got to see snippets of the characters from Divinity and the Python and a mini epilogue at the start of this story, so that totally satisfied my craving for what happened to... Next, I got to see the development of a character from Divinity and it was so great seeing another side to that character.
Bonus? The setting of the book is beautiful. I am lucky in that I can picture the places in my head as this is local for me, but even if that is not the case for other readers, reading the description along with following the journey of the characters is so totally riveting. Thank you for this wonderful book, Bonnie Randall!
It took me a little while to get into this book. But soon it became compelling to solve the mystery. Multiple mysteries actually. A crime to solve & a supernatural phenomena to unravel. This book has a bit of everything- romance, mystery, supernatural happenings. I love that I can recognize some of the places mentioned in this book. A very satisfying conclusion to the book.
This book was hard for me to put down, and even when I finished it, I found myself thinking about the the characters. This supernatural thriller will have your heart pounding as you feel side by side with the characters, clearly seeing, smelling, and feeling everything that they do. A well written book. Highly recommend this read.
Detective Andrew Gavin is under investigation for shooting and killing an unarmed teenager in what looked like a fit of rage. His breakdown in judgment was ultimately caused by his seeing a gruesome suicide when he was seventeen. He’s never dealt with the trauma. And ever since, an incorporeal delusion he calls The Dead Boy shows up at random times. Andrew is not sure which option is worse: Is he imagining The Dead Boy, and losing his mind? Or is The Dead Boy Real?
Suspended from the force while awaiting a possible murder charge, Andrew retreated to his home in the Canadian Rockies. And now The Dead Boy is taunting him every day. There he’s shocked to discover that his childhood sweetheart, Elizabeth McBrien, can see The Dead Boy, too. And she’s not the only one. The Dead Boy has appeared to Kyle King, a sickly teen kid friend of Elizabeth.
It becomes a race to save Kyle’s life, and The Dead Boy insists that Andrew has to face his trauma regarding that suicide he saw as a kid himself because facing that will somehow save Kyle. Andrew’s pretty sure opening that can of worms will not only destroy him, it will also destroy any chance he has of rekindling anything with Elizabeth. As The Dead Boy knows, why Kyle is dying is integral to Andrew’s trauma and memories of that have to surface, even if it tears him—and Elizabeth—apart.
This is one of the best paranormal mysteries I’ve ever read, with characters you’ll never forget and a whodunit that will knock your socks off. RECOMMENDED
