Dirty Fairy Tales #3

Happily Never After

Rate this book
There’s a new Prince in town.
And he thinks he’s my happily ever after.
If only I believed in those.

Lance Jacobs.
Roseboro’s new Most Eligible Bachelor.

He’s the stuff fairy tales are made of.
Tall, handsome, strong. A dyed in the wool American hero . . .
And if my scheming stepmother has anything to do with it, he’ll be married to my stepsister before he can tap out S-O-S.

But he only has eyes for me.

And though my attention is tied up in my new bakery, I know he wants me.
I’ll admit that he makes my heart race, my body pulse, and my mind think of things that are definitely not as sweet as my famous cupcakes.
I can’t help but think Lance would make a great Mr. Right . . . Now.

I don’t trust him to be more than that.
Don’t trust any man after having my heart broken one too many times.

Even if he does make me want to break all my rules.
Makes me want to take a chance.
To believe again.

Could he finally be my happily ever after?

Happily Never After is the third novel in the Dirty Fairy Tales series. I would recommend to read the previous books before starting this one, just to get the bigger picture, but it’s not completely necessary. Happily Never After is my favorite book of the whole series. I really enjoyed this one!

Charlotte is living her dream by owning a bakery and baking all the things she loves. She’s working hard to make her bakery successful and that’s her focus. Meeting Lance wasn’t something she expected, but it was a very pleasant meeting. He makes her feel things she hasn’t felt in a long time. Lance feels the same about Charlotte. He loves spending time with her. Lance will have to be patience to get a chance with Charlotte, but he believes she’s worth it. Lance and Charlotte grow closer and closer, and they will love each other hard in the end.

I liked Charlotte and Lance a lot! Charlotte is passionate, driven, talented, kind hearted, loyal and loving. She doesn’t have the best relationship with her family (something I understand), but she has amazing friends. She can count on them, just like they can count on her. Lance is strong, smart, driven and caring. He was in the navy and that he damaged him a little bit. Now he’s back home to help his family in the business.

The villain is still the same one and I still hate that man so much! His puppets were surprising. The main characters and the couples from the previous books of the Dirty Fairy Tales series appear a few times and I’m always happy when that happened. There are definitely some secondary characters whose story I would love to read, so I’m hoping for a spin-off series.

-- My honest review is based on an advanced reader copy of this book. --

My first read by Miss Landish. I listen to almost 12 hours of audio book. The beginning of the story is promising a cinderella that kind of story. Fairy tale. And thats what i got. Lance went back to his home after servicing his country. He met a beautiful sassy, spit fire Charlote on a gala. So cinderella.

Including the step mother and step sister. Then the similarity of the cinderella stops. It turns into a corporate spy and business rival really quick. It got me so confuse. The story continue more into romance between Lance and Charlote. With all of that steamy sex. What i found is there are minor layer of conflict in this part that is unnecessary for story development.

Toward the ending the story it focusing more into GI Joe involving males charaters taking revenge. So in summary the consistency of the story is very confusing. I still do entertain by that sassiness of Charlote even though it is diminis toward the ends.

And because of that sassiness, i give it 4 stars.

No rating as this truly was DNF.

The h had a horrible father who was probably worse than the stepmom and favoured his stepdaughter over his own daughter.

He ordered h to stop seeing the H because “Sabrina needs a good man, and lance is Sabrina’s because Priscilla put a lot of effort to get them together “.
Lance being the hero, Sabrina the stepdaughter and Priscilla the second wife.

Priscilla must have given the father some extremely provoking blowjobs because he goes as far as asking the h “am I to understand that you’re TRULY interested in this man, and not stealing your sister’s man simply cause you can?”

He truly believed that of his own daughter.

Hero was the one who gave him a piece of his mind and walk out off dinner with h on tow.

As a father, this guy was a shitstain and epic failure. H though had NO confusion in his mind and wasn’t the kind of dick who runs from commitment. He just wanted the commitment with h and never even looked at the stepsister.

Ewww this book was straight up disgusting and also wild and ridiculous. Also I was almost done this book before I realized I missed the second book, o well.

The smut, the characters, the INSANE drama, and the cartoon villain just round this book up into "wtf is this shit" territory. I don't know why it has such a high rating and why so many people love it so much but we clearly like different things.
"I take that challenge and dive in with every intention of owning Charlotte, body, mind, and soul, wearing her out as I fuck her all night, and I'll eventually put a ring on her finger"
The romance is seriously ALL like that quote. It wasn't even cute! He thinks endlessly about how he wanted to own her from the first time they meet and it was gross and toxic as fuck. Lance goes on and on about how horny he is ALL THE TIME. When he meets Charlotte, he ends up with her broken bracelet. Do you know what this nasty ass man does? He jerks off with the bracelet while thinking of her and then gives it back to her. That's not even counting how he straight up rubbed his boner on her when they were dancing and said it was "her fault for seducing him" when she was just talking about goddamn cupcakes.

Charlotte wasn't as super cringy as the MC from the first book, who was hilariously in this book and STILL annoying as hell saying random weird things. But I still hated her. She was instantly in love with Lance and just loved taking his shit and she loved his dirty talk that was creepily related to food. And calling her vagina a cupcake??? Ew. All of the sex scenes were flat out disgusting and their language and "flirting" made me want to throw up.

WHO WANTS A MALE POV IN A ROMANCE NOVEL WHERE WE HAVE TO READ ABOUT HIM JERKING OFF, thinking about Charlotte's vagina, and then it feels like all of the smut is from his POV??? Who is this for??? So n a s t y.

For the first part of this book, it was all about Charlotte's bakery and running it and all that boring stuff. But then the book remembered that batshit plot points were a thing and then we had buildings being set on fire, the mustache twirling villain literally blowing up an entire building just to kill one guy and None of it made any sense and I have no idea why it was even in this book. Who wants all of this in a romance novel? Calm down and go back to fucking and making cupcakes, damn.

As for the retelling bit? lol no. At first there is an attempt to make it a modern day cinderella retelling and then there was no attempt at all. Even calling this a retelling is a joke. This entire book and series is a joke and flat out gross.

Happily Never After by Lauren Landish is book Three in the Dirty Fairy Tales Series. This is the story of Charlotte Dunn and Lance Jacobs. I have read the previous books (and Loved Them!) and there is a underlining story line going on but I feel you can make this a standalone book if you wish to do so.
Lance is an ex Navy Seal who has returned to Roseboro to help with the family business and to get his footing back of being a civilian. Lance's mother has some matching making in mind for him but he isn't in that mind set of finding a wife. When he meets Charlotte at a event that thought starts to change about being with someone seriously. Charlotte is working to make her new bakery Cake Culture be a success. What she doesn't need is a relationship nor does she need the upset of her step mom, step sister who have eyes on Lance for a relationship with her step-sister.
But Lance has a way of working his way into her life that is making it hard just to be centered on her business.
I am so in love with this series and Ms. Landish's writing. I can never put one of her books down when I start reading it...its impossible for me to do so. This book was no different and I hope to read more from this author and this series soon.

OMG! I freaking love this book! I couldn't put it down! This whole series is awesome but this is my favorite and a great end to the series! I love the play on the Cinderella fairy tale. It has it all: romance, lots of sexiness, twists and turns, and a happily ever after. Charlotte is a fierce independent woman who owns her own bakery and Lance is a retired SEAL who comes home to help with his family's business. They have instant, hot chemistry and the build up of their relationship is just awww. I love how patient and sweet Lance is with Charlotte. A true Prince Charming. Plus the epilogue is everything!

Lauren Landish never disappoints in her great all action, all hot of the relationships of the coupling whom join together.

And its from this gala night that both their lives changes.
We see how Charlotte's new cake shop Cake Culture, thrives but then things blows up & the not knowing what /who is it that is after her & her chosen family (best friends). That we see things take that not knowing who to trust or not.

The ending was a bit anticlimactic

I really liked most of this story, but I felt the ending was a bit rushed to wrap everything up. I would liked to know a little bit about Blackwell's history. He never got married? He never had kids? What happened to his parents?

I also felt there was no resolution with Charlotte's family. Why was her dad getting thin and looking old? Was he sick? Even Charlotte' evil stepsister, Sabrina, was concerned. This didn't feel resolved to me.

I'm also curious about Thomas's cousin, Jonathan. I'm hoping there will be a book about him.

The finale book in the series!! (I think) we finally get Charlotte's story!! Can't be read as a standalone.. unless you honestly don't care for the other couples and the ties they have together..

Now char has had a crappy dating life since we met her, so guys are not on her radar right now she is focus on her new bakery with the help of Thomas. But those plans backfire when she meets Lance at a charity event hosted by her friends, sparks are already lit and Lance wants the fiery red hair baker who made him tingle and has some yummy cakes 😉. i did enjoy Lance he is a great guy..Hands down Lance telling his parents he would pick who he dates/marries he lays down that law many times when they try to set him up with Charlotte's step sister he doesn't take the bait or anything the sister tries to do or the wicked step mother he stands his ground and calls out anyone who tries to talk down on him or Char... their relationship is slow and steady that builds even when she tries to push him away.. he pushes back not wanting to lose her.. he also has to keep her safe from Blackwell..and his twisted crazy plans.. some lies, betrayal, and food sexual puns.

I did feel it was to long.. and the blackwell storyline was taking forever.. the reason he disliked Thomas was kinda eh..

Low agnst, No om drama slight om drama, no cheating, drama, secondary chara, celebite and no virgins

Recommend- maybe

We full wildin’ out.

I don't remember much about starting this series, except it was for a reading challenge and I thought "oh, what's the harm."

Boy was I wrong. I hate these books, I hate the male POV that can't stop talking about female bodies and wanking, I hate the anything-but-subtle 'i'm not like other girls' stereotypes. The Villain in these books is the biggest moustache twirler, and I absolutely can't stand the writing.

"I take that challenge and dive in with every intention of owning Charlotte, body, mind, and soul, wearing her out as I fuck her all night, and I'll eventually put a ring on her finger"

I'm so tired of the entirety of a male character being that they're a possessive asshole. I need more in order to care about someone, and some development AWAY from that mindset, not further in. I understand why men like this are attractive to read, but I really just need some nuance to their mindset and actions. Just that and I'm left wishing all these books ended with restraining orders.

I try to have the lowest standards for smut, and I'm still disappointed.

I don’t know why I have a tough time reading this author’s books. This is the first one I finished, and I was bored. The heroine, Charlotte, just was not what I expected. Now I can curse with the best of them. But, Charlotte cursing just didn’t fit. She seemed too vanilla. Lance I could understand. He’s a guy. He’s military. But for her, I didn’t get it. I will say I was shocked by the twist. Didn’t see that coming. But, it just took too long to wrap everything up. I will, though, keep giving this author a chance. Loved that cover, however! Who is that guy???

I've not read the previous books, so feel like I'm missing a part of the under story of what's going on....

I am slightly intrigued to know how the story ends for Lance and Charlotte, however I'm pretty bored with it at present, again I think it's because of the running back story of the villain from the previous 2 books and I just can't be bothered.

There's so much to love about this book!

Where do I begin? If you're looking for a delightful rom-com, this is your book. I laughed out loud so much throughout this book. The humor really helps balance out the tension from the imminent danger that these characters are facing. This is a standalone romance, but the overarching storyline of the Goldstone/Blackwell conflict that began in the first book is brought to a stunning conclusion in this one. There's enough information given here that you aren't left in the dark if you haven't read the previous books, but I guarantee you'll want to get the whole story by the time you're through with this book.

If the first story is based on the Beauty and the Beast and the second is reminiscent of Snow White and the Huntsman, then this one brings us a Prince Charming that has swoon-worthy Jedi mind tricks and a snarky anti-Cinderella who has no illusions of being swept off her feet. Lance is just everything a hero should be, and is determined to be everything Charlotte needs him to be, no matter how hard she makes him work for it.

The romance is perfect, the drama and suspense are brilliant, and the way the two work together to tell the larger story is simply a work of art. I couldn't love it more. I voluntarily reviewed an ARC of this book.

This is the final book in the A Dirty Fairy Tale series and it's Charlotte's book and her happily ever after.
Charlotte has finally opened the bakery of her dreams and it's having a fabulous start. Everyone wants from her bakery and she's loving every minute of it.

Lance has come home from the SEAL's after his parents requested his help but he doesn't want what they want for him. He wants to make his own choices and once he meets Charlotte at a gala, it her that he wants and no one else.

I loved this final installment. I loved watching Charlotte heal a little at a time due to Lance and his reassurance that he wasn't going anywhere. He was there to stay. I understood Charlotte's hesitancy in committing because eventually everyone has let her down or stomped on her heart, (apart from her chosen family, Mia, Izzy, Thomas and Gabe.)even her own father was blind to her heartache. That annoyed me to no end too.

Blackwell is getting crazier and one of his "minions" turns out to be a shock. I didn't see that coming. I hated that he succeeded in one of his plans. Man I wanted to thump Thomas and the others for not seeing. But it did keep me on the edge.

The epilogue was fab but I would have liked to have seen Charlotte's wedding. I liked hearing how Mia and Izzy were doing in their relationships too.

A Fitting Conclusion to the Series – Feels a Little “Been Done”

The final duo of this three book series, Lance and Charlotte, battle with family, siblings, and nefarious corporate competitors to find each other, overcome their past issues, and learn to trust again.

The story reunites Charlotte, Izzy, and Mia, along with Thomas, Gabe and a new face, Lance, in their friendships, whirlwind romances, and corporate intrigue, to tie all the pieces together for their extended family’s happily ever after.

Beautifully written, always a solid, well thought-out story from this author, this one’s ending is pretty over-the-top. However, I would have to say the author thoroughly pulls it together with an economy of pages.

The story struggles with sounding somewhat familiar, especially the dialogue towards the end, so the reader may find it a bit predictable at times. But, in terms of shear entertainment value, the blow-out sequence of events towards the end will surprise you and keep you on the edge of your seat.

This is the third book in the Dirty Fairy Tales Series but can be read as a standalone. Some of the characters appear from the previous two books. I had not read either of them and had no problem keeping up. A little on the Cinderella side with the 'prince' of a man and the evil stepmother, etc. Charlotte and Lance will keep you turning pages as you watch him pursue her. A retired navy seal, a wounded heart, a bakery overflowing with sweets and more steam than you can imagine. Bo shortage of explosive chemistry or sexy scenes. Well written with strong characters and an entertaining story that I read as an arc and voluntarily chose to review.

This is the third entry in the Dirty Fairy Tales series and features Charlotte, bestie to Mia and Izzy from the previous books. It’s fundamentally a story about family and friendship. I enjoyed how Charlotte blossomed as she gained confidence and embraced her dream of becoming a baker. I also liked that Lance did not bow to parental pressure either, especially when his parents tried yet again to arrange his future as they saw fit. The attraction between Charlotte and Lance is immediate and intense – too bad Charlotte’s struggling with insecurities – but it’s a good thing Lance has patience and is convinced she’s his forever girl. The underlying element of danger running throughout the series, courtesy of the fiendish Mr. Blackwell, plays out in spectacular fashion with a fitting conclusion for all involved. The story is well written with engaging characters and features plenty of drama, angst, humour, action, plus a little suspense and intrigue. There’s also several seriously steamy encounters courtesy of one Dominant, alpha ex-SEAL and one sassy, fiery, red-haired baker.

The SEAL and the baker.

Lance Jacobs is a very recently retired Navy SEAL. His parents are uber wealthy and he’s home to help with the family business in Roseboro. Lance is new to Roseboro and his mother has plans to marry him off to her vapid friends daughter.

Charlotte Dunn is a redhead taking a break from men to focus on her bakery Cake Culture. Her vapid stepsister is the one who wants to marry Lance.

Thankfully, when Lance sees Charlotte, she’s the embodiment of who he was fighting for. He dons an apron and helps her at her bakery.

There’s family drama, the treacherous Blackwell is up to no good and evil deeds.
Sweetness and sassy fun between Lance and Charlotte. And what he does with her broken bracelet? Hot.

Highly recommend for a satisfying read.

Oh Lordy—What an amazing read! Lauren Landish knocks this one right out of the park. Happily Never After has a kickass storyline; some truly diehard characters; plot twists and turns that while you expect the worst...you just never see it coming; and the HEA? It’s one helluva heartbreaker. This has to be one of Lauren Landish’s best books to date. You will definitely want to add this one to your TBR today! (I voluntarily reviewed an advance reader copy of this book and was totally blown away!) ❤️❤️

I just loved this series and all the characters in it but this story centers around Charlotte a baker who is best friends with Mia and Izzy. Mia and Izzy are part of Thomas Goldstone’s group and Charlotte comes under that umbrella too.
Lance is home from the service because he dad needed him in his company but one look at Charlotte and her cupcakes Lance was done for.
I love how the author wove all the characters to make a great final book but the family feeling you get made all the stories just perfect!

Charlotte and Lance… their story is half love-at-first-sight-romance and half thriller… both parts working perfectly together.
There are scenes saturated with sizzling hot attraction, building up to panty-melting hot and passionate moments…
And then there are heart-stoppingly thrilling, even horrific scenes that will leave you breathless and on the edge of your seat…

This is the perfect conclusion to this phenomenal series with which Ms. Landish has surpassed herself once more!

Oh my damn. Oh my damn!! Lauren Landish is a artist of the written word. This was a home run, or a knocked out of the park. Lance and Charlotte damn near burned my kindle down. The dirty fairy tale series is a unique spin of our favorite tales. With each book, I'm convinced it's the best one yet. It proves the point Lauren Landish keeps outdoing herself. If you're looking for a hot little sexy number, this is a must read. It's told in different points of view, no cheating, no cliffhangers, and a hea. I highly recommend this book.

Seems like a series with so many characters with a history backstory. It's a fairly normal story with a high espionage story that intersects. Pretty different.
Then towards the end it gets really bizzare with lots of heavy violence. The bakery storeline becomes very tame in comparison.

I'm still not sure how I feel about it. I liked Lance and the cupcake princess throughout. Hmmm? So I'm ambivalent. Sorry.

What happens when you just want to frost your own cupcakes.........enough heat to melt your icing!

Happily Never After is another great read by Lauren Landish. This book makes you think that if you go after what makes you happy then you just might actually get it...............even if there are more than a few "bumps" along the way.

The h, Charlotte, is someone you can relate to. She has gone through the stages that most women have - eagerly tried to find her "mister right", optimistically settled for "mister right now" (aka a toad that does not turn into a prince no matter how much you kiss him) and finally has abandoned her search and sworn off men. Luckily for her she has a bakery that is doing great and it is something she really loves. Plus add a few good friends and you can have a pretty full life.

But in walks Lance, the H, who is trying to live his life with a mother who keeps trying to get him hitched to the "appropriate" woman. Unfortunately for him the woman his mother has picked out is not the one he wants. Instead Lance sets his smoldering eyes on Charlotte and the heat does not just come from the bakery's ovens when these two meet!

However, between the two of them there are more than a few issues which they each need to sort out in order to get their HEA. This is a great read and I really enjoyed the hot chemistry between Charlotte and Lance, along with the other characters and how they added into the mix.

I received a free ARC of this book in exchange for my honest review. My opinions are all my own.

❤️🌼🔥CHARLOTTE GETS HER MAN❤️🌼🔥
HAPPILY NEVER AFTER was the perfect wrap up for the Dirty Fairy Tales Series and the Goldstone/Blackwell era.....❤️🌼🔥
Lance Jacobs, former Navy Seal comes to Roseboro to help with the family business......Charlotte Dunn (Mia’s And Izzy’s best friend), has lived a “Cinderella” type life with her stepmother/stepsister situation, but Charlotte wants to make her own way and, with Thomas Goldstone’s help, opens a bakery, Cake Culture... Lance and Charlotte have chemistry from their first introduction, and they don’t lose it....ever.....❤️🌼🔥
Enter Blackwell (we even learn his first name in this book)with his Thomas Goldstone vendetta, and the whole family is involved....I loved getting to see so much more of them...(Thomas & Mia, Gabe & Izzy and, especially, Lance & Charlotte), and seeing where they go from there.....❤️🌼🔥😁
Lots of twists and turns and lots of steam.....I loved this book....Sad to see this series end.....I kinda wanted Jonathan to get a book....❤️🌼🔥

Woohoo! The great conclusion to the Dirty Fairy Tale series. For best results, you'll want to start with the first book, Beauty and the Billionaire, as there is an underlying story that spans the series. Happily Never After is Charlotte's story. She is just getting her new bakery off the ground with backing by Thomas, the fiance of Charlotte's friend, Mia. Someone has been out to destroy Thomas and the culprit is not above going thru those around him. Enter Lance Jacobs, recent SEAL returning home to help the family business. He's smitten with Charlotte at first sight and inserts himself in her life much to the chagrin of Charlotte's stepmother. She has Lance eyed up as the suitor for her own daughter, Sabrina. Charlotte's trust is tested when Thomas' enemy hits too close to home. Who is friend and who is foe? Dun dun dahhhh.... This was a great ending to the series and I loved the epilogue wrapping up the stories of all three of our BFFs. I would definitely recommend this book/series. Loved this author's fresh take on Cinderella! Lance could be Prince Charming indeed with his dashing looks and military background. Charlotte has her hands full running her successful start up bakery, keeping safe from a threat to her and all her friends, and being the daughter/ step daughter/ step sister to a wealthy and powerful family. She dutifully follows their lead and tries to steer clear of Lance to give her step sister a shot, but why should she stay away when he's the one pursuing her. It becomes obvious there is something between them even their powerful families can't dictate so they both go all in ready to give it a shot when pressure from an outside source threatens their safety and well being. I love how things came to a head in this book, we got Lance and Charlotte's love story but we also got all the other loose ends from the other dirty fairy tales resolved. This formula is why Ms. Landish is an automatic one click for me.

I absolutely loved this book! This series is off the charts freaking amazing! I have to say that Charlotte is one of my favorites from this series, she’s spunky, a fire cracker and speaks her mind. She’s sworn off men that is until she see’s Lance, he makes her heart beat like none other before him. These two have amazing chemistry and are explosive together, but Charlotte is still leary about giving her heart away again. I love that Izzy and Gabe, along with Thomas and Mia are included in their story, those couples are sizzling hot as well. Their story is sexy, heartfelt, sweet and full of twists and turns, as we know Blackwell is still lurking around the corner waiting to strike again. That man needs to get a life in a big way! I love the way we are kept guessing as to what’s going to happen, being on the edge or your seat is the best way to judge a book and this one is one of this author’s best books to date!! I highly recommend this book.
