I started this book but couldn't finish it. I'll point again to this being a book meant for a YOUNG audience. This book is a lot cooler than the first, in that the magical abilities and training montage-type stuff happens, which is exciting to see our main character get stronger through.... but the whole magic training is WAY too easy. Like, the mentor will just "explain a spell" and our MC will understand it and be capable of casting the spell so quickly and without explanation besides "he tried for a few days with no luck" and then eventually getting it. Definitely do not recommend this series for adult readers, but I would for sure recommend to super-young readers. Again, the Audible performance was great.
This series definitely reminds me a lot of Eragon. Though there are, ofc, plenty of differences. If anything, I daresay I like it a bit better than the Inheritance Cycle.
With that said, the end of the book revealed that Ivan is actually William, Anders' father. A bit tropey, but eh, I'll accept it.
The highlight of this book is Anders realizing how similar he and Murglan are, especially in terms of their upbringing. I do feel like it's a little exaggerated if not forced because Anders is nothing like Murglan. He doesn't really have a darkness to him that could teeter him to the edge of becoming evil, I feel. Ofc, the crystal in his sword has been corrupted by Murglan's own being and Anders being forced to use it was overcome by its evil, but still even then, again, it's kind of hard to see Anders truly struggling with a darkside, you know? Still though, I do like seeing this theme explored, so it will be interesting to see where this will go in the next book. Hopefully, it gets better and a little more nuanced to make it more believable that Anders could fall from grace.
Overall, this book was pretty long, but still enjoyable enough even though some parts, I think, did drag a little. Still, I look forward to see what happens next.

An excellent continuation from book 1. The plot thickens. Full of betrayel, war, and family ties. The twists and turns will leave you aching for more. Ander's is now working with the elves and humans to stop Merglan the evil sorcerer and his dragon from carrying out his evil intentions to control all. Unknown to Ander's, his cousins are also trying to help. They have some clever ideas to aid them. Now that Zahara and Ander's are truly bonded, they have decided to give this fight their all to destroy their enemies. First they must figure out who is leaking their plans to the enemy. When the answer is revealed, it shocked me. I never would have guessed who it was. Ander's is given a special sword with a saphire on its hilt. Ander's can feel its power and shudders to think of how it could be used. He only knows one thing, the 2 of them must succeed. Ander's also learns that his family hides many secrets regarding this prophecy that entangles himself and Zahara. A fantastic Book 2 in the series.

This is actually a review for the prequel Dragon Wars and Bond of a Dragon as for some reason it would not let me review them on their page. I received these to books for free and since it is almost Christmas I considered them wonderful gifts. I have been reading fantasy for over 40 years and recently a lot of fantasy has been decidedly so so and so I wasn't expecting much from the prequel and book one, boy was I wrong. I can honestly say that A J Walker has rekindled my passion for epic fantasy. I won't go into the plot but it has everything one could want for a fantasy lover, prophecy, magic, dragons, goblins, orcs, quest, and plenty of action. Highly recommended. Off to read book 2 now
Secrets of the Sapphire Soul is the third book in the Bond of a Dragon series which has been a really wonderful read so far it’s an epic fantasy with all of the classic races like Elves, Dwarfs, Humans, Orcs and Dragons with a few other interesting creatures. Walker has kept me as involved in this book as I was in the first two books and I recommend this series to all ages. I’m looking forward to reading the rest of the series.
I liked this book and got some chills from some of the battle scenes. It ends on a cliffhanger annoyingly, well.. not so annoyingly but I want to know what happens next right NOWWW. It’s not a difficult story to follow. Fairly simple plot. I like the characters. Decent.
Kinda felt like a btec version of eragon mixed in with lord of rings, really didn’t want to finish it but felt like I needed to so I could see if the ending got better (which btw it doesn’t)
I came for the dragons and even though they were present I just wasn't impressed with the writing. It just didn't feel very well developed. I don't think I will be continuing this series.
Keeping ~90% as with the first book. It keeps the same pace (though it's twice the length) as well as pulling out some nice twists mid-way through the book. A small issue is that some of the side-stories don't get much screen time in the second half, and I hope to see more of those characters in the third book. It's obvious they have their own story but the pace of the main storyline gave them little chance to be seen.
