This is my second book by Preeti Shenoy. The first one I read was "Love a Little Stronger" that was a wonderful light read. I enjoyed the humor, emotion and feeling shared in those stories. And Preeti is one of the bestselling authors of India, so I didn't want to lose the chance to read the next book by her which was a sequel to "Life is What You Make It", again a national bestseller. I happily accepted the review copy in exchange for an honest review.

"Wake Up, Life Is Calling" is a story of Ankita. She had troubled past. She recently came back from a mental asylum, she was admitted there due to Bipolar Disorder. Her parents were her biggest supporters. The story started when she joined the course of creative writing. She made 2 friends from her class and started living normally. Her phone-friend/school friend or I would say her long-distance boyfriend suddenly entered her life. She was annoyingly enjoying her life when something unexpected happened to her which brought back troubling memories back to her. The last third of the book shows her struggle from the phase.

Frankly speaking, I found the book is inline or may be inspired by "Veronika Decides to Die" by Paulo. Don't get angry with me but I was not able to finish "Veronika...". Somehow I was getting too many negative vibes from that book. Something like that happened to me when I was going through the phase of Ankita's struggle. The reason I sailed through was limited options and 15 hours journey. Also, Indian background helped me to go through. Once I was done through 2nd third, I was enjoying the book. And before I know, I reached the last section. Yes I finished the whole book in one day (6-7 hours)

My observations
1) Though the book is written with good intention and motivation in mind, for people in depression I would advise either finish the book (if you start) or skip it. If you leave it in low of Ankita's character you may get more depressed.
2) The book is written for mature people with the proper thought process.
3) To make sure, the seriousness of the subject won't affect the reading pace, Preeti has used simple language and straight storytelling.
4) I haven't read part 1, if you want to read it first then do it. It will be helpful.
5) Nice and colorful cover design.
6) I didn't like Parul's behavior in the climax, the way she was portrayed in the beginning I thought she would be mature enough to support Ankita.

I know many people said good words about the book, I felt depressed (even though I was not depressed at all) while reading the book. And that's why I am not able to give more than 3.5

A book on mental health I would recommend.

I have loved the first book Life is What You Make It.
I was a bit hesitant to pick up the sequel as I thought it would not live up to my unrealistic expectations.

How wrong I was!

Yes, to know the characters and their story we have to read the first book. The first book will introduce you to the characters as well as their backgrounds, the detailed description of mental health issues our main character was facing and how her family was struggling.

I would say the sequel is really impressive as it carries on with the worries and doubts of our main character, Ankita, as she is still struggling through bouts of depression and anxiety due to daily circumstances and the people she was with.

I can say the author has dealt with the subject very sensitively and also represent the age of the character very realistically. I totally appreciate this.

I just love how the author has written these two books.

One of Preeti Shenoy's poorest writing. I am a big fan of her books and writing..I've even met her in person and conveyed this! But this book honestly did nothing for me; I've read the first book and it honestly gave me goosebumps..but this one cannot say the same! The writing felt lazy and poor..especially the first half describing her college life; I genuinely felt like I was reading a book for kids; small sentences and boring scenes. The second half picked up but it got so dramatic after that. In a way I am glad it ended. I blindly pick up her books but not happy that I picked this.

Ankita was a patient of Bipolar Disorder. With the help of her parents and NIMH. Life is What You Make it ends there. What's left for the sequel? Well, mental health problem is like a shadow. Wherever you go, you will be scrutinised. Whatever you do will be judged as a disease. You won't be able to express your emotions in a fear that you will be misjudged as being sick again.

Ankita is out in the world. She wants to erase her past and start all over. But the return of her boyfriend and encounter with a book throuws her off track. One after the other external circumstances build up new challenges for her. Are these just circumstances or is she going back to square one? Down with Bipolar?

The book is deep. A reader looking for entertainment would not be able to enjoy it. This book is purely targeted at people who needs help. Help doesn't mean psychological problems. Help means the issues you face in your day to day life, small and big. It is a pointer to show that sometimes it's not your problem. It is how you deal with it. The character of Mrs. Hayden is exemplary. The visualisation exercises mentioned by her, though a creation of the the author is brilliant. It takes off in a tough phase and hence the pace is slow but slowly gains momentum. Nonetheless the book is not an easy read but a deep read. It is a fictional self help book.

After Life is What You Make It, authors further books were more or less overrated or camouflaged by the fans who she made from the book. Hence the expectations were high and different but sadly she couldn't reach the mark she set with the book or may be she got carried away with the need to keep up with the bestseller list. But this one, it is evident that author has put her heart and soul into it. Her bleeding heart is evident in how she dealt with Ankita. This is the Preeti Shenoy. Or Preeti Shenoy is back, so to speak.

Depressed & dragged beginning and rushed up perfect ending.

This one is a sequel of life is what you make it, The story revolves around the life of a dynamic young girl who fights bipolar disorder bravely, and constantly fights to fit into the so-called normal world. Indeed
life has so much messy and beautiful plans for us. Keep fighting till you get out of those messy and unwanted things in life.

What I didn’t like:
It feels like you are reading everything over and over again. I have already read about her in the first book and I was hoping Wake Up, Life is Calling is more about how she has embraced a healthier life and what challenges she faces moving forward or how she takes claim of all the lost years. However, as a reader, I found myself reading the same stuff again in this sequel. 😟 I understand that feel the loneliness, the dragging life, the painful silences or the uselessness the character feels needed this dragged storyline but my point is that we have already felt that in the first part of the sequel, there is no point of going via same things again and again in every part of sequel!! 😅

It’s Like that if you skip a few pages, there is nothing you would miss.😞

I what I liked:

The positive climax came like a light in the dark tunnel 😍. The wise words of life management and fixing your attitude towards negativity and people around was very good. But I think this part was rushed as everything suddenly began working in bringing a positive climax. This could have been better.

Overall I would say nothing as such special in this book. If you have read the first part you can try this one as well but not worth to read if you haven’t started the first book yet, better to avoid it. 😇

Life is what you make it. A novel by Preeti Shenoy - this book changed my life forever- it made me realise my purpose, my calling and she is such a wonder woman and my inspiration and will remain my all time favourite author:) Her words connect to us and her thoughts are enriching! When Preeti Shenoy announced about the sequel I was so much exicted and the sequel had it all! Mental health a topic which we still consider a taboo is briefly broken into pieces and constructed in 33 chapters! Ankita a fighter is back starting her life fresh pursuing a course she loves and simantoneusly finds the answers for her questions! Parents are friends, and they are the ones who always stand for us is said strongly in each and every chapter and when it comes to characters I am in love with Mrs Hayden:) She is a friend who everyone must have:) Enjoyed this book into bits and finished in one sitting!!! Awesome Preeti shenoy:) Thanks for the post card and the cover is full of life!!!

The first thing about this book that caught my attention was it's title. A very positive and chill vibe . The cover is vibrant and beautiful. From the blurb I understood that this book had a prequel and I hadn't read it. So immediately got it on my kindle and read that so that I could enjoy the books together.
Having read the first one just before this gave me a good perspective of the story.
A very descriptive, honest narration of what the protagonist Ankita goes through. The narrative felt a bit repetitive though. This doesn't take away from the importance of the subject that's being talked about.
Easy to read language but a difficult topic to deal with.
What I didn't like was that I felt it stretched a bit in between and the story got its redemption in last 50 pages. Although the title is catchy....for most part of the story it doesn't feel justified till you reach the end.

A very good read. Can be enjoyed by all kinds of readers. A great story of you want to understand what some patients with bipolar may be going through. It does get a perspective if you have read the first story.

It is the story of Ankita, a young girl who had suffered from a major mental illness and came back from a mental hospital. She is trying everything to regain normalcy in her life. She is in a college she loves, studying Creative writing, where she makes new friends as well, who do not know anything about her past. She is busy and happy in her new life. But, this happiness doesn't last long as her past resurfaces, and his ex-boyfriend comes back to her life, to regain her trust. And just when she thought she can handle that, she discovers a book, a suicide manual, which pushes her to some dark spots, as she gets stuck in the spirals of her own thoughts. But can she escape her thoughts? Will Ankita survive the ordeal a second time around?
I am really spellbound after reading this amazing book. It is an emotional roller coaster ride, which is both gripping and overwhelming. The book talks about suicide, mental illness, depression, loss, trust and many more things.

Of late mental health is on the stands and with a book that has the protagonist dealing with a mental disorder helps in understanding to a certain extent what it is to go through a mental illness. It helps in being empathetic to others.
I reveled the book, especially the Life's little lessons that Ankitha keeps writing in the book, Mrs Hayden and last but not the least the way the author has named each and every chapter on the name of a song :) The part of Mrs Hayden was written so diligently that my heart went out for her and I feel so ecstatic for having read this book. It made my day!

It's the sequel to her book "Life is what you make it", I have read that and liked that, hence wanted to read this. This is much better than that book and I really enjoyed reading.

Though the story line is same and it's based on the Depression, it's narrated in such a way that's it's not boring. There is so much similarity in both the books, yet so much different. Specially in this book, she perfectly matched the title with the content which was bit missing in the other book.

Not really a fascinating story but it's inspiring..

I loved the notes that's mentioned in each chapter and they are the total treasure to note and save for lifetime.

Though it's a fiction book, there is alot to learn from this, be it knowing more about bipolar disorder, or these little precious notes or even the technique she explained to avoid the negative thoughts can be adapted by everyone. I felt as if I read a non-fiction and I was inspired, emotional and happy.

Totally recommend it, but make sure to read "LiFe is what you make it" first and then this.

A simple story but with a powerful message. I have read all the books of the author so far. All I can say is this - Preeti is real good when it comes to narration. It is no wonder that she is one of the Top 5 Authors in India when it comes to book sales. She is certainly a "Master Storyteller" who has shown variations in each and every book of hers that was published so far.

The book will send positive vibes to those who has/had the tendency of committing suicide and must be real by all since this phenomenon is common, worldwide irrespective of age and sex.

Ankita, the protagonist of the story had a dark past. She drops out of her MBA course and when she joins the course to become an author/writer, she gets Janki and Parul as her friend,on the very first day. While Janki was from an affluent family, Parul's mother was into movies as she was the Assistant Director.

They were taught in the college by Professor's - Nalini aka Nuls, Mrs Amrita Tulapurkar, Mrs Hayden. There was one instance where one of the professor asks the tudents to answer to the quetion:

"What writing means to you?"

The answer written by Ankita was surreal and that would give you the hint about what you could expect next.

While things were going normal, Ankita finds a book in the library which brings in something in her life(perceptions) and she also gets to meet Joseph.

Who is Joseph?

What dark past did she have?

All these would make you keep hooked to the book till the end. The title of each chapter was unique and you would have a pleasant surprise in the end. I would certainly recommend this book as it has a message, like I have mentioned earlier.

Setting Yourself Free From the Prison of Your Mind

'Wake Up, Life is Calling" is an apt ode to the greatest struggles- we face. The one we fight with ourselves. A beautiful sequel to the protagonist Ankita's life depicted in "Life is What You Make It, this book starts exactly from where the last one ended. With new characters, interesting plots, subplots and charming old characters, Ankita's journey will make you wake up and smell the coffee.

Preeti Shenoy, an acclaimed wizard at her craft, leaves no stone un-turned and pulls you back in the world of Ankita with finesse. Though eight years apart, you never miss the pulse of her. With the sequel, the expectations of the book is always higher- since you have set yourself a standard. It is a competition with yourself because you will be first compared to your own words! And in this case, Shenoy pulls it off like a master stroke! Go and feel the world of petals, keys, sunshine and Ankita.

PS. - Reading Wake Up Life is calling directly will equally be a soothing experience, however reading or re-reading Life is What You make it will make you experience better depths of the new one.

Total Chart Buster!

The Blue Balloon of hope and positivity engulfed all her dreadful thoughts. She basked in the Sun of newfound love and confidence.
:
Few books changes your thinking, makes you value your relationships, analyse your life events in a new light and inspire you from the very beginning to end. This book belong to that rare species. A sequel to the book Life is What You Make It. It traces the life of Ankita, the central protagonist whose life returned to normalcy after a brief stint in NMHI. She joined a creative writing course and renewed the contact with an old friend. But everything came crashing down, when she discovers a book in the college library which took her back to the forgotten alleys and to add to the wound, a past ghost resurfaces who revives all bitter memories. Read the story to find out if Ankita comes out stronger out of every trouble or get sucked in the darkness.
:
The author beautifully aped the art of delivering a lot through limited prose. Engaging narration coupled with strong plot-line and fast paced story makes it an interesting quick read.Well developed characters through their actions and choices is bound to strike a chord with the readers. The Life’s Little Notes is something that every individual can adapt in their own life to unwind their mind while combating stressful situations.
:
An enlightening tale with a meaningful end, it will stay with you for a long time. I will recommend the book to every reader.

I finally finished reading #WakeUpLifeIsCalling by @preeti.shenoy yesterday and it's spectacular 😍
.
.
"Life is What you Make it" was the first book that i ever read. My sister had read it and absolutely loved it, after she was done reading it, she couldn't stop telling everyone the story of the book and recommending it to almost every friend of hers. So one sunday out of curiosity I picked it up. And I am so glad that i did.

That book got me into reading and Preeti Shenoy has been my favorite author ever since. I have read each and every book of hers and I was so happy when I got to know that there is going to be a sequel to #Lifeiswhatyoumakeit

#WakeUpLifeIsCalling is incredibily written, I loved the way the story has been continued. The story of Ankita, who is just a normal girl and her not so perfect life. The author has beautifully portrayed various relationships in both the books. The characters are all so real and relatable.
Its an amazing read. And I definitely recommend it to everyone, specially teenagers. Trust me guys you are going to love it. Go grab your copies now 👊

Kudos to @preeti.shenoy 💙
The wait for the sequel was absolutely worth it Ma'am🙌📖

Average

I'm am a fan of Preeti Shenoy. But I think this is just an average read or I should say I liked it in parts. The put up of these parts make this book an okay type. I loved the prequil, infact it is one of my all time favourite... But not too happy with this. Writing style is good as always but story line is average. It's like giving a closure to the prequil, that's it.

52nd Book of 2020!

There are few authors whom you can’t afford skipping and that is what defines my relationship with Preeti Shenoy who is my favorite female author. There are instances when I have been unable to read her book just after its release but somewhere, I take out time and end up reading her book when I am in the zone to accept the deep stories she tries to share with her readers. I am just done reading my 52nd and the last book of 2020- “Wake Up, Life is Calling” written by Preeti Shenoy and published by Srishti Publishers. This 250-pages book is the sequel to Preeti’s first book- “Life is what you make it” which has been very popular since its release. Just for everyone’s information, even if you don’t read the 1st book, you can still go through with this without any concerns as even I had read it in 2011 but have completely forgotten the story by now. Haha!

The book talks about the protagonist Ankita who has seen a lot in her life which had led her to depression and mental health issues – now, she is wanting to reload her life with new experiences and forgetting her past but this comes with its own challenges where her own past and the people from this past are making it difficult for her to revamp her life. Preeti has ensured throughout her writing career that she focuses majorly on the mental health issues and specifically with the female characters. She has kept the same approach with this book itself where the character of Ankita is still dealing with the same in her 2nd chance to life too.

The book is little inclined towards darkness which becomes relatable and readable only if you have been through the same situation or have a bit of depression in your life currently otherwise you might find difficult in enjoying the book. Anyone reading this book must ensure that they read it completely if they pick up otherwise seeing the vulnerability of the character they might feel that there is no scope once someone has gone into the state of depression. Author has nicely covered as to how a person overreacts to things happening around them considering everything is against them. They forget realizing positives around them but keep on focusing to everything negative that happens. This makes life tougher than before.

Author has mentioned about the relationship of the patient in depression with their psychiatrist very aptly which I believe is very important to mention as having a doctor who hears you patiently can do magic for you in such cases. There are several notes that the protagonist writes whenever she feels that she has learnt something magical and transformational for her life which I believe are the highlights of the book as it displays the famous philosophical side of Preeti. I liked all those italic notes as well as many conversations she had with her parents, psychiatrist and teacher which makes you think about yourself. Preeti has somewhere tried giving hope to the people who have stopped trusting themselves or the world around them which I think shall definitely reach the sufferers.

The title of all the chapters are very creatively designed which I did notice while reading them as even those one, two or even five words makes you feel nostalgic. Later, in the end of the book, author reveals how she chose the title which made me feel proud about my instinct even though I don’t listen English songs. I also liked the suicide manual part as it did give some curiosity to know what’s mentioned in them and what it shall further lead to.

Now talking about the drawbacks, the book is very dark which makes it tough for you to read as it doesn’t move very fast and gets stuck at the same spot itself. Author just doesn’t leave the story mentioned in the first book and keeps mentioning it every now and then. Anyone who hasn’t read the first book shall not be able to connect with Ankita the way readers who have read the first one would. I also believe the things mentioned by the author about suicide etc. might make it feel appealing to some and they might also try to do the same which could have been avoided.

There is something missing about the X-factor that comes with Preeti Shenoy’s book in this one – I don’t know why. There isn’t much description about other characters or the locale in which the book is set or the philosophical depth and many other such factors generally on which Preeti emphasizes upon in her writings. I have never rated any book of Preeti below 4 ever but unfortunately this time, I have to. I give this book 3.5 stars out of 5. This doesn’t meet the standard set by Preeti. Also, somewhere my heart says that the pressure to do as good as “Life is what you make it” made Preeti write it in a certain way and not freely as she does.

That’s all for my reading journey for this year 2020.

Thanks.

Our mind is our biggest enemy
But it can also be our biggest friend
There's so much beauty in life
We only have to look✨

Wake up life is calling
Preeti Shenoy

How true is it ?
How easily we let others opinions of us affect us ?

How often do we try to walk in other's shoes before making a quick remark which may haunt them forever!!

Mental health is as important or even more important than physical health but speaking about it is still a taboo is our society.

Preeti Shenoy has given an wonderful account on mental health awareness through both of the books I have read so far.

This book is sequel to Life is what you make it which I read few years ago upon suggestion of a close friend of mine. If the cover and title of the books were beautiful what's inside seemed like the beauty of raw truth without any masks.

The book is a detailed description of the Protagonist 's struggle post her days in a Mental health care facility. Her efforts in trying to find her normal and all the troubles she goes through were described in a way that it definitely pulls a cord in our heart strings.

All someone need is compassion and a little bit of understanding and trying to see them as a normal person and not a different species simply because they had the courage to seek for professional help for treating their mental health problems when they understood that its mandatory and has been brave enough dealing with their demons and overcoming it.

If you guys have read other reviews of mine, then you all must be already knowing that Preeti shenoy is my favourite author.
Now talking about this book.

Blurb: Ankita has fought a mental disorder, been through hell, and survived two suicide attempts. Now in Mumbai, surrounded by her loving and supportive parents, everything seems idyllic. She is not on medication. She is in a college she loves, studying her dream subject: Creative Writing. At last leading a ‘normal life’, she immerses herself in every bit of it. Underneath the surface, however, there is trouble brewing. A book she discovers in her college library draws her in, consumes her and sends her into a terrifying darkness that twists and tears her apart. To make matters worse, a past boyfriend resurfaces, throwing her into further turmoil. Can she escape her thoughts? Will Ankita survive the ordeal a second time around? What does life have in store for her? Preeti Shenoy’s compelling sequel to the iconic bestseller Life is What You Make It chronicles the resilience of the human mind and the immense power of positive thinking. The gripping narrative demonstrates with gentle wisdom how by changing our thoughts, we can change our life itself.

My review: I was excitedly waiting for this book, but when I opened the packet and saw it, I was a bit disappointed because the cover was slightly torn. Anyways, my excitement got hold of it and I started reading the book and finished it in one sitting because favourite novels are to be finished early right?
The plot this time had some different characters and new places.
The reader if he has read the prequel of this book can very much relate to the incidents of the past.
P.S. Don’t read this one if you haven’t read the prequel.
The story this time has Life’s little notes which makes it all the more interesting and has some beautiful lessons attached with them.
You can also find some points where the author has given some ideas through different characters to keep yourselves away from the negativity.
I’m not gonna give any more spoilers and let you all read it.
I’d rate this book a 5 on 5 stars.

REVIEW -
🌸The writing style is simple and easy to read. Beginners can easily enjoy reading this book.
.
🌸The Narration style is very good. The Author narrates everything in a detailed manner.
.
🌸 The storyline is really weak. It goes downwards with every page. There's no story at all. The book is all about the protagonist's day to day routine life and thoughts.
.
🌸Unnecessary Dragging makes this book damn boring. There's nothing that we can read and enjoy. NOTHING..!!!
.
🌸The Characters are drawn averagely. They're Simple, common, and regular.
.
🌸The Climax is little better than the entire story. Overall, an average read.
.
.
Final Thought - Expecting much more because the Prequel was an amazing one but the sequel disappointed me.

What if our mind dictated us, “Just tightly seal the plastic cover around your head. You will be freed of the fearful titillations, humans experience!” What would our reaction be to this? Would you follow the lead as per our brain dictated us, or would you pause and analyze over what the brain is trying to convince you? If storing every memory in our brain is a Programme that has been designed by the Universe, isn’t the mechanism to make it steer it in any chosen direction, present in our hands? When I began reading ‘Life is what you make it’, during my Grade 11 days, I never expected that few years down the line, it would force my fingers to deeply feel every word, once again! Coming back to 2019, when the sequel ‘Wake Up, Life is Calling’ is released, I just could not wait to dive into the life of Ankita Sharma, who is optimistic about the next chapter, life would unfold, after her stint in NMHI. What does the Book say? With the sudden rush of optimism that is vibrating her every cell, she is all confident that and jubilant over having conquered her mind. ‘Mind’, which is the biggest enemy of every human, the ability to conquer it, is not a cake walk. After her successful battle with Bipolar Disorder, which numbed her senses followed by throwing her into an extreme zone of creativity, she found herself repeating history when a BUMP from the PAST hits her head. Now, the pride she expressed over having tamed her mind, she finds it difficult in coming up with her emotions, that overwhelm her, thus making it difficult to embrace her flaws and move ahead. Review: Reading the next chapter in Ankita’s life proves to be a fresh start and treat. The usage of words stands apart as it takes the reader on a roller coaster journey to feel the very sentiments, Ankita is facing. By pinning down ‘LIFE’S LITTLE NOTES’, which gives an insight into the lessons, Ankita learnt and is learning, it is an eye-opener for surviving in this world. What really appealed to me was the maturity Ankita shows at every tough circumstance to keep her on the track towards achieving her goal. And she tops the chart in being the best version of herself. Rating: ⭐️ ⭐️ ⭐️ ⭐️/5

Gradually healing from an emotional abuse, Ankita is ebullient to start a fresh future in a new city. Considering that Creative writing would detox her past agonies, a prompt student emerges within herself. Comradeship with Parul and Janki ,exciting lectures of Mrs.Hayden ,reading for long hours in library, building teams for the most awaited cultural fest in the college, almost gives optimism in her life until Vaibhav -her old friend surfaces back after 4 years. Annoyed, at the same time intimidated by her parents reactions, her past trauma brushes past now and then ,but she does not reiterate as her parents enjoy his company.
The readers are bound to book as the wheel of positive and negative thoughts spins in her mind, when Vaibhav distants her after a confession. Amidst sleepless nights, she clears with ease the preliminary rounds in public speaking contests, but the dooming performance in finals is a killer. Yet another unfortunate incident at Parul's birthday party brings about her mental health disorders to fore. Finding that her most guarded mystery is no longer a mystery, avoided by her friends, she attempts for suicide. At this moment her Professor Mrs. Hayden turns up as a savior at their door steps, who is feeling guilty for putting flee-away thoughts albeit indirectly in her student’s mind What medication and painful treatments fail to achieve, the narrative of traumatic experiences by Mrs. Hayden do act as therapy in bringing positive changes. Meanwhile from nowhere Vaibhav returns, reconciles making her stronger.
The ending indicates a confident Ankita in her authentic public speaking style giving her graduation/thanks giving(?)Speech with beaming parents and Vaibhav in front rows.

I read this book a while ago and felt like I should review it now.

I was waiting since a long time to read a sequel to 'life is what you make it" as that book really connected with me. This one too was touching and effective.. Though not as much as the previous one. This one though focussed on the importance of having kind hearted and open minded people around you who listen, support and encourage you come what may. Sometimes you don't find that kind of unconditional positive support in your parents or friends. It may be a kind stranger, an acquaintance or a teacher. This book highlights the importance of having soulful conversations and having the strength to overcome negative thoughts. I really loved the message "Always stay positive". Also, the parts titles 'life' s little notes' seem to be speaking out to the readers. It seems like they are lessons for all of us that we can learn from.. Really the best part of this book are the little notes.

This has to be one of my least favourite Preeti Shenoy books. This is a sequel to one of her best selling novels - Life is What You Make It. In my opinion, the sequel felt unnecessary, the way the first book ended was perfect. To reopen things and even change the ending of the first book felt weird.

Ankita is back home at Mumbai from NMHI, healed and recovered, ready to jump back into life. But when she sees ghosts from her past lingering in her current life, would she be able to face it or would she relapse? That's the crux of this book - how Ankita handles her present life, free from the past.

Throughout the book, Ankita comes across as a highly self centred and a mean person. It's like being diagnosed with a mental health issue gave her a free pass to treat people like shit. I loved the Ankita in the first book; not so much in this. When her past friends try to reach out, she just treats them too poorly, like it's their fault for daring to come into her life, making her remember her past. That's so unfair on so many levels. I do understand it can be traumatic to see bits of your past when you're trying to move on, but the way it was written and portrayed didn't sit well with me.

And the story of one of Ankita's professors at the end also didn't really sync in with the rest of the book. It just seemed like suddenly Ankita realised other people have it worse and therefore she should be grateful for her life. That's really not the message the first book was trying to make. I could have been good without reading this book.

If you loved Life is What You Make It, PLEASE do not read this book. This book will ruin that for you.

The novel, "Wake up, Life is Calling", the continuation novel of "Life is What You Make It", by Preeti Shenoy, is a very inspirational one. Everyone has their own perspectives. Some may think "This is impulsive, destructive or more than anything, it helps the reader get a reason to be depressed as this book has an aura of depression throughout it". But to me, it is far away from that. It helps us find a way to embrace ourselves.

Coming to the story, it felt so boring initially, as if this is the same as the previous book. But after completing 60% or so, it started picking my interest. In the end, it gives us a way to get away from distressing thoughts, especially The Balloon concept, it helps a lot, I guess...

"Love does not mean waiting for the phone call or waiting for them to appear. love is the quite knowledge that they aren't going anywhere and will always be there for you."
.
What if your mind is your greatest enemy?

What if you were living your worst nightmare?

How would you cope?

The protagonist, Ankita has fought a mental disorder, been through hell, and survived two suicide attempts. Now in Mumbai, surrounded by her loving and supportive parents, everything seems idyllic. She is not on medication. She is in a college she loves, studying her dream subject: Creative Writing. At last leading a ‘normal life’, she immerses herself in every bit of it.
.
Underneath the surface, however, there is trouble brewing. A book she discovers in her college library draws her in, consumes her and sends her into a terrifying darkness that twists and tears her apart. To make matters worse, a past boyfriend resurfaces, throwing her into further turmoil.

👉Can she escape her thoughts?
👉Will Ankita survive the ordeal a second time around?
