“ If you remain in me, and I in you, you will bear much fruit .” John 15:5
While on earth, Jesus frequently encouraged His followers to trust and draw near to Him. Jesus extends that same invitation to us today, and there is nothing more important than knowing Jesus and being known by Him. When you are close to God, you can know better how to live.
Anchored in Jesus explores what it means to have a living relationship with Christ—and how that is the key to growing strong as a believer. As you explore who Jesus is and what He has done for you, the Lord will work in your life so that you reflect His character more and more. You “bear much fruit” when you live closely to Jesus and exhibit the same kind of love, joy, peace, patience, faithfulness, and self-control He modeled.
Anchor yourself in Jesus…and let Him transform you.
I expected this book to be written more for believers who needed encouragement in the present days when it seems our culture drifts further and further from faith in God. It seemed to be more about evangelism or coming to faith in Jesus instead. I expected one with deeper spiritual truths than the one written. If seeking that type book, look elsewhere. If you are a young believer, the book may help you in your spiritual walk.
Review Title: Ever Steady Anchor (review of Anchored in Jesus: Holding on to Truth in a Drifting World by Johnny Hunt) Reviewer: Janice S. Garey ***** 5 Stars
The author, Pastor Johnny Hunt, writes in an approachable friendly style that will appeal to many. For those who may have felt Christianity to be an exercise in cerebral stretches beyond the reach of ordinary folks, Pastor Hunt makes the most important basics of the faith instantly understandable.
From his own life story of knowing nothing about Jesus while he was caught up as a young man in pool hall gambling and drinking, he shows the difference Jesus makes once He takes up residence in a willing heart. His story of transformation compels people to rethink any misconceptions they may have about Jesus. Those who are caught up in addictive lifestyles will find hope for release from their bonds in this book.
Pastor Hunt explains the Christian faith in a loving way so people will feel accepted and in God's favor where He finds them. As Pastor Hunt has been released from shame and has been made useful for God's work in this needy broken world, so can anyone. Readers will find a great reward for reading this book as they discover the simple truths of God that lead to release from the grip of sin.
Several times the book specifically addresses an audience of men. Many Christian books are written directly for an audience of Christian woman. Fewer are written for men. The book, as it covers the important basics of being Christian, meets the needs of both men and women. Thankfully men can read this and feel cared about equally by Christian publishers as they, too, deserve. Men will feel a challenge to be all in for Jesus and live up to their spiritual calling and potential.
All ages will benefit from reading and applying the information in the book to their lives. That said, the book has a great message for senior Christian's who may have felt sidelined in youth oriented churches. The older Christians may be on the cusp of meeting their purpose in full as they continue to go full speed ahead paced with Jesus at the helm of their lives. This is such a hopeful and all inclusive message that many need to hear to refocus for usefulness in kingdom building work. Christian senior groups have a great new resource in this book to energize them to more than they could think or imagine because they join with God and let Him do great things through them.
I received an Advance Readers Copy ebook from Netgalley to read and then give an honest review. I have read the book and given my honest opinion without any obligation to do otherwise. #netgalley #anchoredinjesus
A Few Good Points. A Few Troubling Ones. Standard Johnny Hunt. Full disclosure up front: I've been in a few crowds Johnny Hunt has preached to, and some relatives have been members of First Baptist Woodstock, where he preaches. So I know most of Johnny's story, what he believes, and his style. And this book is effectively sitting through a month or two of his sermons - each chapter tends to sound nearly identical to a given weekly sermon, in at least two instances complete with the Sinner's Prayer. And that is why I can't rate this book any higher, yet also don't feel comfortable rating it any lower. Conservative American Evangelical Christians will likely hit this book with 5*, the further away you are from that group, the lower your rating will likely be. Overall he does in fact make some solid points, he just does it in the lazy country preacher style I've known him to employ for the last 20 yrs - which works well in a region that 20 yrs ago still composed a fair amount of farmland, despite being in the middle of Metro Atlanta's northward surge. Recommended, just do your own research any time he makes a claim.
When I started reading this book, I did not know that it was primarily directed towards men until I got more into the book. However, the author message was so good and encouraging, I continued to the end, and I am glad I did. Men will definitely be challenged, convicted and encouraged to make sure their walk with God is the real thing, but not just the men, anyone who says he or she is a Christian and is following God. I loved the author's conversational style, as if you were in a room with him just having a conversation. Very good book for anyone who wants to get closer to God and have an intimate relationship with Him, that then extends out to witnessing to others about the love of God.
I’m grateful for the ministry of Johnny Hunt. He is such a wonderful encourager. This book is an encouragement to men to receive Jesus and to live for him. I encourage Christian men to buys extra copies and give them away and I encourage non-Christians to read and consider your own standing with God and service for Him.
Author, Johnny Hunt had some good points in this book about how to stay anchored in Jesus, but I felt a good majority of all that he talked about, I already knew.
I received a advance e-copy from netgalley for a review. All opinions are my own.
