This is a wonderful book to help young children learn that Jesus is the ultimate Healer, using examples of how Jesus miraculously healed many people, as is seen in the Bible. This book also teaches children that Jesus died on the cross so that all people could be healed from sin, in addition to basic human anatomy (head, eyes, ears, mouth, etc.). I highly recommend this book for parents of babies and/or toddlers who wish to teach their children these messages.

Note: I received this book from NetGalley and the book's publisher in exchange for my honest review, for which I am very grateful.

This is my family’s fourth primer from this author, and I love this one just as much as the first, second, and third! I wish there were more stars!!!

As a mom who desires to raise up my daughter seeing all of Christ in every aspect of our lives, this books is one of the tools to help me do that! It leads parents in gospel centered truths on every single page, verses to learn as they learn about the body God created. Our babysitter read it today and said, “I never thought about centering anatomy around Jesus.” The truth is, we often don’t think about it - yet, the truth remains that we only have our bodies because of our Creator.

I love that this book will help me in teaching my daughter more about Him as she learns about herself. It’s one I recommend to all parents for their little (and big) ones.

I love this series of board books for our littlest ones. As they learn about the parts of the body, children see examples in Scripture of Jesus healing.

First sentence: Great crowds came to Jesus, “and he healed them. The people were amazed when they saw the mute speaking, the crippled made well, the lame walking and the blind seeing. And they praised the God of Israel.” Matthew 15:30-31

Premise/plot: This board book is a concept book for Christian parents to read with their little ones. The concept is parts of the body—anatomy. The parts of the body are highlighted alongside scripture as stories of Jesus’ healings are shared. Time and time again Jesus heals.

My thoughts: I have honestly never thought of teaching the parts of the body by sharing scripture verses about Jesus’ healing ministry. I do like that it uses actual scripture verses. That’s one way to keep the text biblically sound. I liked the emphasis on Jesus’ ministry. I loved the lead up to the cross. The illustrations are nice.

We have been big fans of the Baby Believer Series since it's conception. My two-year old brings one of the books to me every day exclaiming "I want JESUS!" All of these books present truth accessible for little ones, drawing them in with vibrant colors and gentle illustrations.
This particular book teaches kids parts of the body (a favorite unit of study among by littles) and that Jesus loves every part of them! Such a sweet concept that can be internalized at a young age. Hitchen closes the book with the victorious truth that we have all experienced miraculous healing through Christ's death and resurrection; he bore our sins in his body. Such a poignant message and the hope that we all--even our two-year olds-- need. I am grateful for this resource that makes scripture and truths of God the lens through which our kiddos learn about the world.

As a Registered Nurse, I have a particular interest in teaching our 7-month old son, Linus, about the beauty of the human body. While I can humor myself by attempting to teach him advanced anatomy and physiology, I acknowledge that every parent needs a simple book for their children to get started.

Jesus Heals is the perfect book to help our children learn about their created bodies but also learn about their Creator.

Catechesis Books

This book by Danielle Hitchens and Jessica Blanchard is the latest entry in the Baby Believer series from Catechesis Books published by Harvest House Publishers. They are a series of board books dedicated to helping parents teach their children basic Christian theology. The hope is that our children would never know a day apart from the Lord.

The book opens with an introduction to Matthew 15:30-31: Great crowds came to Jesus, and he healed them. The book uses full-page pictures, sometimes horizontally angled, to highlight the head, eyes, ears, mouth, back, hand, legs, skin, and body.

Scripture references are from the NIV as well as the Common English Bible and International Children’s Bible, and each passage tells a short story of how Jesus healed each specific body part. The words are showcased in a playful font with large letters, making it easy for parents to see and point to the words while reading aloud.

In His Body

This 10-page board book is recommended for ages 0-4. It is solidly constructed and was able to withstand heavy use by my son. The illustrations are beautiful with vibrant colors. The people in the book have darker skin tones, with brown and black hair and eyes.

The book ends on 1 Peter 2:24: He himself bore our sins in his body on the tree, that we may cease from sinning and live for righteousness. By his wounds you were healed.

Even as an aging parent, this book is a reminder to me that God is going to heal my beaten, broken body. And every time I read it to my son, I am reminded of our Lord who heals us physically and spiritually.

I was provided a free copy of Jesus Heals but was not required to write a positive review.

Jesus Heals: An Anatomy Primer is the latest release in the Baby Believer series by Catechesis Books. I own the first five books in this series and have really enjoyed using them to teach my daughters about God and His word. Jesus Heals uses various portions of New Testament to teach little ones about Jesus and the healing miracles He performed. Each page includes a few Bible verses and is accompanied by an illustration that identifies a body part. The text identifying the body part stands out more than the verses as it is larger and bolder. I really enjoy this aspect of the book's design because I feel that it gives me options when reading it. With my ten month old, I enjoy pointing to the body part illustrations and then naming the body part out loud. My three year old has a longer attention span so I can read the Bible verses with her while she enjoys looking at the illustrations. This volume flows so well with the other books in the Baby Believer series and my daughters really enjoy it! I love that the last page ends with an illustration of Jesus and 1 Peter 2:24. I'm excited that reading this book with my kids will introduce them to Jesus early on. I received Jesus Heals compliments of Harvest House in exchange for my honest review.

When I first discovered the Baby Believer series, I was thrilled to have a resource for introducing my baby to knowledge needed for everyday life as well as the soul. Jesus Heals perfectly lines up with the mission of the series and I’m so glad to have it as part of our library! Jesus Heals pairs beautiful illustrations of basic anatomy with passages from scripture that simply and profoundly explain the body part’s physical function as well as Jesus’s miraculous work of healing. Hitchen highlights how witnesses respond with praise to God after each miracle and properly exalts Christ as the one who heals bodies as well as souls. I am filled with joy while reading miracle after miracle to my 8 month-old son! I thank the Lord for such a wonderful resource to share the great news of Christ’s healing with my baby. Only the Lord knows when his heart will receive and respond to Biblical truth, and having a visually captivating and sturdy source for sharing scripture with him is such a blessing! (I'm not worried about him tearing pages out of our Bible!) I would highly recommend Jesus Heals, as well as the rest of the Baby Believer series, to all families of little ones! I received a copy of Jesus Heals in exchange for an honest review. All opinions are my own.

“Jesus Heals: An Anatomy Primer” is another beautiful, meaningful addition to the Baby Believer series. We have been fans of the board books since the beginning, as they are a beautiful way to present biblical truths and scripture to your child. I love how this book starts by setting the scene with “great crowds came to Jesus, and he healed them,” and then moves through various parts of the body (head, eyes, mouth, hand, legs) with an example/scripture of how Jesus healed someone with an ailment in that particular part of the body. The second to last page showcases how Jesus healed Lazarus’ whole body; then it culminates with an illustration of Jesus and the fact that “we are healed because of his wounds.” I love how it moves systematically from part to whole, and then ends by discussing not just the physical healing we receive from Jesus, but the ultimate spiritual healing from sin. It is a simple yet powerful illustration of this truth that is wonderful for children (and adults!) of all ages to ponder. The beautiful illustrations by Jessica Blanchard are again the perfect pairing and provide just enough lovely detail to encourage imagination of the scene. This is another must-have resource for imparting biblical truths to your little ones!

This book is simple, powerful, and a joy to read. It lifts my spirit to read this compilation of Jesus' healing miracles because it reminds me of Jesus' compassion for our physical and spiritual selves and his power to do miraculous things in us. I especially love that the last page quotes 1 Peter 2:24 "Christ carried our sins in his body on the cross. He did this so that we would stop living for sin and start living for what is right. And we are healed because of his wounds." This reminder of our ultimate hope as Christians really makes this book one I will keep coming back to. Baby Believer books take topics from the Bible and combine them with a "primer" topic which makes them interactive and more accessible for children.Even though the ideas are deep, they made approachable through the "primer" concept, so there are multiple levels of understanding and conversation that can be had. I look forward to seeing my baby grow up with books like this to read with him. This is my second Baby Believer book - I want to collect them all! I received an advance copy of this book in exchange for my honest review.

[Disclosure: I received a complimentary copy of "Jesus Heals" in exchange for my review, but I was already familiar with  --and a fan of -- the Baby Believer series prior to this review.] 'Jesus Heals' is a delightfully illustrated, slightly-oversized, board book, designed to introduce babies, toddlers, and preschoolers to various body parts, while also providing an overview of Jesus' healing miracles. Each spread includes an illustration focusing on one part of the anatomy (head, hand, legs, etc), and includes a brief recap of a miracle related to that body part. The Scripture quotes are excerpted from the NIV, CEB, and ICB translations of the Bible; book, chapter, and verse references are provided as well. I love how the entire Baby Believer series makes topics like the creeds, creation, the beatitudes, and the resurrection easily accessible to the tiniest members of your family, yet avoids being overly-preachy or stilted. 'Jesus Heals' is a book we'll read over and over again in our home.

‘Jesus Heals’ is yet another genius children’s book in the Baby Believer series. I absolutely adore that this books gives me an opportunity to walk through the gospel with my children in such an elementary way. Sharing the gospel doesn’t need to be complicated, and ‘Jesus Heals’ reminds us of that. My kids really love pointing out the body parts on their own bodies, and I love that we can talk about the miracles of Jesus. With scripture on every page, you can be confident your children are hearing truth. The illustrations are engaging and captivating, and uniform throughout the series.

I highly recommend ‘Jesus Heals,’ as well as every single book in the series, for every home. You will be amazed at the joy they bring your children as they act out the prompts, learn animals, count to ten, know body parts, recognize opposites, and become familiar with their emotions. Get this book. Get them all!

In a world where there is pain and suffering it can be challenging for little ones to comprehend all the boo-boo’s and what makes things better. This book has been a hit with my 4 year old and 1 year old, as my youngest discoveries different parts of her anatomy and enjoys pointing to herself and the beautifully illustrated pages of where those places are and my eldest is grasping the nature of the Great Physician and what’s possible in healing the things that cause pain to our bodies. The baby believer series are full of rich yet simple content that capture the minds of multiple ages. I love that we have these books to read to our children and the verses that correlate to each page help open up conversations of empathy and understanding while directly relating to their world. I highly recommend “Jesus Heals” and all the books in the series, as they’ve enriched our home library with a vibrant way to tie in the gospel and basic first concepts for our children!

The Baby Believer series is our favorite board book series in our home; the series is also our favorite to gift to expecting parents. Jesus Heals is presently my daughter’s favorite book of them all. As a toddler, she is learning to identify parts of the body and loves the beautiful images and colors and I love reading about Jesus to her. The Baby Believer series as a whole is so intelligently designed and is a great investment for learning about Jesus and the gospel. The primers make it easy to apply biblical truths to a young child’s daily life— anatomy, counting, movement, opposites, etc. I’ve found that many children’s books are loud and busy, but the Baby Believer series is artistic in a way that keeps us coming back to find new truths and new things to love about Jesus! These books haven’t collected dust yet and will be in our home library for years to come. This series is truly a treasure for our family.

This book doesn’t work for me. As an adult, I understand what the author is trying to say, but I would have appreciated a little explanation between pages. Even a sentence or two on the first page telling us that Jesus heals every part of the body, before she just starts naming different healing miracles, would have been nice. I appreciated the author bringing the focus back around to our need of a Savior at the end, and not leaving it focused solely on physical healing.
I did not appreciate the change of translation on two of the pages, specifically the use of the ICB and the CEB. I would have preferred her to keep to the NIV.
I received this as a free ARC through NetGalley and Nelson Books, Thomas Nelson. No favorable review was required. It was my pleasure to provide an honest opinion.

Jesus Heals is such an incredible, beautiful, and educational book!! It is perfect for any age (I read it to my 8 month old!) and such a sweet way to teach your kids different parts of their body. Each page shows a body part and connects it to a story of Jesus healing that specific part in Scripture. My 2 year old currently has a fractured leg and this book is a fantastic way to show and explain that God is the one who is healing his leg and to teach about Jesus healing the paralytic’s legs in the Bible! Not to mention the illustrations are stunning and colorful, the pages are the perfect thickness, and the book overall is very sturdy!! I highly recommend this book for your family or as a gift! I love gifting any of the Baby Believer books at baby showers or birthday parties! It’s beautiful, affordable, and perfect for any child!

I have all of the Baby Believer books and I am in love with this series. My almost 3 years loves these boards books! When I heard another one was coming out I had to jump on board. "Jesus Heal" was no disappointment. I love that not only teaches kids about places in the Bible that Jesus heals but also teaches about parts of the body. As we read through the book my son loves to points to the parts of the body it names in the book! My Favorite is the last page where it says 'Christ carried our sins in his body on the cross. He did this so that we could stop living for sin and start living for what is right. And we are healed because of his wounds." 1 Peter 2:24 _ perfect way to end a book with the ultimate healing God performed on us.

This is a great book and it will be one he can read over and over again in the years to come.

Even though these books may be named Baby Believer, they are great for all age groups. With my 18 month old, we use Jesus Heals to go over simple anatomy knowledge and I read her the verses. With my 4 and 6 year olds, we can delve deeper into the whole passage that the verse is taken from and we can talk about how Jesus still heals us today, and about the ultimate healing awaiting us in heaven. With quite a few older family members dealing with serious illnesses, healing is really a big topic in our house these days. I am so grateful that books like these are available to really include theology discussions in everyday life, not just on Sundays at church. The illustrations are beautiful and unique, and the size of the book itself makes it easy to put in the diaper bag for outings.

From cover to cover, this book is a work of art! As a mom of 6 kiddos, books are well-loved and it shows in my home. Therefore, my toddler hard-cover books get pretty tattered. I loved this book at first touch because it is sturdy and thick, and a bit larger than most. The artwork is captivating, with bright colors that draw the reader's attention to the story. Most importantly, I love this book because it keeps Jesus central as the One who heals not only diseases but heals us of our deepest problem: sin. Not only is a toddler learning about body parts and pieces of stories, but learning deep truths about the Bible and our great God. This is the book I want to keep in my home and gift to all my mama friends having babies.

Christ carried our sins in his body on the cross. He did this so that we would stop living for sin and start living for what is right. And we are healed because of wounds 1 Peter 2:24.

The miracles of healing that Jesus performed is told in this primer. How each came to Jesus with a request and was healed. The ultimate healing comes on the cross. A primer that shares the Good News of the Gospel and how Jesus came to heal and save us.

A Special Thank you Harvest House Publishers and Netgalley for the ARC and the opportunity to post an honest review.

I dearly love this book, and so does my 5 year old. It is simple, but profound. When the healings of Jesus are presented back-to-back (pun intended), it's an abrupt reminder that YES, Jesus does care about our physical bodies. YES, he cares about individuals, and YES, the coming of the Kingdom of God involves healing. In a world where we have so much skepticism about miracles, this book is a powerful reminder of his care. And the brilliant thing is that it's completely accessible to little ones as well.

Another great addition from Catechesis Books! With bold illustrations, the Jesus Heals: Anatomy Primer helps teach young ones the parts of the body while imparting spiritual truth. This book provides a great opportunity to share the Gospel with your kids. Jesus Heals is the perfect addition to your children's library. It would also make a great baby shower or baptism/child's dedication gift. Thanks, Danielle Hitchen and Jessica Blanchard, for using your gifts to glorify God and help parents disciple their children more intentionally.

The pictures of everyday people experiencing healing from Jesus accompanied by scripture are captivating to my 2-year-old. The text flows easily from one instance of God showing the world who Jesus was (his Son) and how he works to make all things new. The final conclusion that by Christ's wounds WE are healed is powerful and almost brings this mama to tears each time we read it.  Grateful for another beautiful book to add to our collection of Catechesis books!

We own several other Baby Believer books and this one is just as amazing as the others. The artwork is stunning and really captures my kids' attention. This book is such a treasure to add to a home library. I love that it is entertaining, educational, and also faith building all in one. My kids are already beginning to remember some of the ways Jesus healed others just after reading it a few times. It really is a must have!

Another amazing addition to the Baby Believer series! We own each of the books in this series and love them dearly. This book is no different! I love that these books are developmentally appropriate—teaching our little ones anatomy while also teaching them theology. We love that the book uses scripture to teach about Jesus’ ministry, yet keeps it simple enough for kiddos to understand. And the illustrations are beautiful, as always!!

These baby believer books are some of my favorite books for my girls! It is hard to find books for toddlers so focused on the gospel and different from what's already out there. These are unique but classic, the type of books you want for your kids but usually can't find. They meet a need to have more resources that engage kids from the youngest readers. I love the illustrations, too--they're beautiful!

Like the others books in the baby believer primers this one is a must have. The artwork and colors are so rich and beautiful, catching and keeping my little one's attention and it is so fun to see my older one's eyes light up when she is learning something new (body parts, emotions, etc.) and it connects with the stories we read in the Bible and the scriptures on the page of these books. They are helping her learn and most importantly bringing the Bible to life for my babies!

Jack borrowed this book from the Canal Winchester library. I have written some Anglican children’s board books that are in the process of being published, and I’ve heard great things about these books and wanted to see how the series compares to mine. The art is beautiful and the use of scripture is really well done in this one. Jack liked pointing out the different body parts and enjoyed the scripture. It seemed to calm him.

Jesus Heals is a book that helps babies learn different parts of the body while teaching them how much Jesus cares for them. My 9 month old son loves the bright illustrations! It's a sturdy book that's perfect for babies and I really enjoy reading it with my son. I really like how the author has made these simple truths about Jesus both accessible and fun for children.
