One killer down, one to go. With the serial killer off my back, my mother, the head of Parnormal MI5, wants me to move on to another case. Only problem is, my best friend has been kidnapped and held by a man who helped the evil killer. My magic is almost restored, but the fate of my soul is still in question. If I took the time off to save my friend, and myself, would my job as top Paranormal MI5 agent still be there when I returned? The risk was great on both sides, but when life trumps magic, I have to brace myself for impact.
Rachel Medhurst grew up in a small village in Surrey, England. She writes to inspire and heal. She lives in the British countryside with her dog. If she’s not writing, she can be found walking in nature and reading. This is the final story about Gemma Abbott and I'm happy she finally hooks up with Dave. I'm not sure how she resisted for so long!
There are a few painful losses and a disappointing betrayal, but these served to strengthen Gemma. I felt like there needed to be a bit more closure regarding the betrayal, aside from just knowing what became of this person. I think Gemma would have insisted upon a final confrontation so I was disappointed when that didn't occur.
The plot is a good one, filled with tension and surprises. Even though I was certain Gemma would survive, her fear was palpable and caused me to question how she could possibly prevail. Unfortunately, I still had a few questions in the end. Why did M15 refuse to allow Gemma to work on the case? I thought for sure that someone higher up in the chain of command was gunning for her, since her mother admitted it had not been her choice to restrict Gemma, but I did not see any justification for the decision that clearly put Gemma in more danger. It wasn't a crucial detail, but I would have liked further explanation. Overall, I really enjoyed the book.
A good read but possibly not as good as the first two books. Felt that the main character could have fought more. She had a pretty defeatist attitude several times and not what I expected from a strong, independent type. Plus her acceptance of her mother was just a bit too much to swallow. Where was all the pent up anguish of her childhood and the feeling of betrayal when her mother kicks her out of the unit and it's protection. So the son is dead but long live the original king. She now has a bounty on her head, has been forced to leave the unit (by her own mother no less) and her BFF has been kidnapped. Too make things worse she learns that there is another son in the wings and her familiar has been slaughtered leaving her even weaker. Will the unit find a way to help? Will they find her BFF? What happens when they do? Has the 'king' got a back up plan and if so what is it? Will she be strong enough to survive? What will happen now between her and Dave? Why is the Equinox so vital?
In the final book of the trilogy, Gemma has one final task, then she can be brought back to life. Gemma's mother, worried for her safety, wants her to take a back seat to the latest mission, and that idea doesn't work for Gemma. How can she sit back and leave the takedown to her team? Meanwhile, her best friend Brianna has gone missing, and no one has heard from her. With her desk friend Dave's help, they are going to end all of this once and for all, and perhaps their friendship will evolve into something so much more.
I love the characters and I've enjoyed watching Gemma become closer to her coworkers. Gemma has such a fun and unique personality, her t-shirts were always a big hit in the books, and it's been fun reading what new ones she's come up with. It's hard saying goodbye to Gemma as I've really grown to love her, but I think that Rachel sent her off with the best goodbye she could have. Very well done.
I think this book and the whole series is definitely worth reading. Rachel Medhurst knows how to weave a story that draws the reader in and keeps you interest throughout. I have seen Gemma grow and become more involved with her team. She has finally figured out, thanks mostly to Dave, that she is not alone and they really do care about her. She still has some major hurdles to conquer, but she has her magic (and the Ancestors help) even if she's still technically dead. Xvair is still out there somewhere and she is not giving up. I have been so excited to watch her relationship with Dave grow and it's been wonderful. There are still twists and crinkles that she has to contend with. I sure hope that e can check in with Gemma, Dave, Jake and Kate in the future. I loved it. I requested an advanced reader copy and am under no obligation to leave this review.
A great conclusion of a different paranormal twist
Number 3 begins where #2 ended.
The world is in danger. Our Essex witch is in danger. First, the witch line has weaken further. As it was explained in previous books, she is technically dead. The only thing keeping her alive is the fey line. Further, she still needs to find and kill the evil witch who wants He'll to rule. Her vampire friend has been kidnapped to lure her to him. I wouldn't mind a book 4 with her married with twins and a successful book career. Her genre could be something a punny opposite of her life and experience.
Rachel Medhurst has given Gemma a fitting and thoroughly memorable final chapter in this third Paranormal MI5 story. A lot of loose ends get tied up, a supposed friend turns out to be anything but and family matters are resolved in a story that has plenty of action, a little romance and lots of intrigue. My only regret is that this is the last book in Gemma's story although I am hoping that, as with Devon Jinxx and the Hunted Witch agents, well be able to look in, from time to time, on Gemma and the MI5 team.
Great conclusion to the Paranormal MI5 series. Gemma and her mother can’t seem to meet eye to eye on whether or not she should be pulled from her current case. Their inability to come to a compromise has Gemma searching for clues to find her best friend on her own or maybe not. As the story unfolds relationships are tested and while some are strengthen and changed for the better others are lost forever. There was a big twist in this story that took me by surprise at first but as it sunk in it made since. I loved seeing how much the characters had grown and I really loved the ending.
Fantastic conclusion to this series! I have absolutely loved reading Gemma’s story. This one really had everything you could possibly want. The storyline moves at a consistent pace, the characters are well developed and fairly easy to connect to. The plot has twists, turns, murder, kidnapping, love and a shocking betrayal! Thank you for taking me on a wonderful journey!
Killing the main character at the start of the first book in the series is a bold move for any author...Rachel, however, made it work. Will this last book see the Ancestors promise kept and Gemma returned to life or will her enemies succeed in removing her line from the guardianship of the ley line and destroying her line entirely?
The heart-stopping conclusion is finally here! I loved it! It was a whirlwind of mystery, action, betrayal and romance. A wonderful ending to this fantasy series that wraps things up nicely but leaves room for the author to continue writing in this world as well.
LOVED this book. So sad that this series is at an end. I felt that this closing book was much more realistic in terms of emotions and feelings. Gemma is kick ass and I hope that someday I get to read more about her.
This final book in Gemma’s series was very well done. Filled with action and tension, this final story wound up to a beautiful closure. I really enjoyed Gemma and her crew and highly recommend the Paranormal MI5 trilogy!
Bravo. Another well written book. These books are very well written and draw the reader on to the characters lives. I so enjoyed this series and hope more will be written
This book wraps up all the questions we have had since the first book, has twists and turns that leave your head spinning and your adrenaline pumping! Betrayal, love and resolution are the key points in this story and I thoroughly enjoyed the ride. My only regret - this is the final book in Gemma's story.
