This guy could offer me the moon, and I’d hand it right back. Never in a million years did I expect to run into the biggest crush of my childhood. But, of course, I have. And I’m reporting to him at the new company I landed a big-time job at. Arrogant. Hot as hell. Total jackass. Why he’s still single is no mystery to me. He’s not willing to settle down. He’s always been that way, and as far as I’m concerned, he always will be. But, boy, is he beautiful to look at. Every part of me screams "run" as my insides turn to mush. No. Not me too… Not again. I should be immune by now. I know him far too well to fall into this hopeless pit of adoration again. But maybe there’s a way around it. It’s his power that drives me over the edge of insanity. If I were the boss instead of him, I’d hold all the cards. Good thing I’m always up for a challenge. Funnily enough, this guy thinks he’s going to score. He might have to redefine what getting lucky looks like after me. At least, that’s the plan. This is book 1 of a 3 book series. You will have to read books 2 and 3 to complete the story.
Ali Parker is a full-time contemporary and new adult romance writer with more than a hundred and twenty books behind her. She loves coffee, watching a great movie, and hanging out with her hubs. By hanging out, she means making out. The man is hot. Hello. She’s a creative at heart and loves coming up with more ideas than any one person should be allowed to access. She lives in Tennessee with her hubs, teenage son, two grown daughters, and two love-of-her-life grandbabies! Telling a good story that revives hope, reminds us of love, and gives a vacation from life is all she’s up to.
Getting Lucky was not on the top of my reading list. In fact, I wasn’t even sure why I had put it on my reading list at first. The blurb was good, but it didn’t draw me in to read it like most of the other books I had been reading. I wasn’t even sure why I kept it on my borrowed list for as long as I did. But I work through my books one at a time. Sometimes it takes longer to work through all 10 when I run into series because I like to read those back to back. This is a standalone novel so it wasn’t a priority.
When I first started, I actually had low expectations. I know, I know… don’t judge a book by its cover. I mean, the cover is pretty hot – not gonna lie. But it just didn’t speak to me. I have also told myself that when I start a book, I will finish it. I don’t want to let preconceived notions stop me from reading. And I am glad I didn’t.
This book made me giggle, made me blush, made me smile so big, made me cry. There are some steamy moments in here that will get your blood rushing, but they aren’t the basis of the story, but instead a vital part of the relationship building between the two characters. Second-chance, enemies to lovers books are great individually… and then you put them together and the SPARKS FLY!!
Even with my judgement at the beginning, I am beyond glad I gave myself the goal of never stopping myself from reading a book. This book hit the mark and I definitely give it a HUGE thumbs up. I can’t wait to read more from this author! If you don’t mind some steamy scenes that lay out some amazing vivid scenes for the imagination, then this book is right up your alley.
Another fantastic five star read from Ali Parker. This is the type of book that books you from the start and will not let go until the end. Ember didn't know that she was recruited for her brothers best friends company until her first day on the job. She had such a crush on Kaden when she was younger but he was mean to her! Karen was lost from the first moment he laid eyes on Ember. I loved this book. Needed plenty of tissues while reading this heartfelt story! I am hoping that Ryan and Gracie will eventually get their own books as well!
Never and Kaden grew up together by her brother being his best friend. As she was four years younger, they didn't much bother with her. After she graduated from Harvard, she applied and was chosen as one of the recruits for his firm. She of course is brilliant and is noticed by Kaden but does not recall her. I totally enjoyed their banter and how they each realized that they loved each other. I knew what his father was was planning before they did and I was very happy with the ending
I HATE books that suddenly end with a "to be continued". This most have been a book that slipped through my digging to see if would end or be pushed on to another book. Frankly it was a little too detailed and unrealistic for me to buy into the story. Absolutely not worth purching the second book to find out what happens I don't like books that parents ( this time a father that emotionally is abusive to his only child, his grown son. I will never purchase or borrow on Kindle Unlimited another book written my Ali Parker.
If you like the falling for your brother's best friend romance then you will love this book. Girl moves to new York to work at Marx inc yet she has no idea it is the company of her brothers best friend. At first she makes Kaden guess how he knows her and then they can't seem to stay away from each other. Then there are the secrets she is keeping, etc.... I voluntarily reviewed an ARC of this book.
WOW! Awesome love story between all of the people in this story!! Ali Parker is great author! I have read a lot of her books and every one of them are involve with delish romantically loved by many people. This book contained people in attraction of each other and dreams for happiness! I enjoyed reading this book, it was fantastic story about friendship and exceptional people!
Once more with feeling! Ali through and through. A young woman who has supposedly, a body image problem from childhood, that makes up for it with a quick wit, a bright brain, and a smart mouth. Throw in the Adonis boss, who also happens to be the childhood crush and the sparks fly, Ali style! Love the scenes, all of them. That’s all I’ll say. Recommend it? Of course. Grabbing the next book now.
Kaden and Ember are amazing characters in this story. It touches the heart and sends your emotions in so many directions. He was her first crush and best friends with her brother. Now she is all grown up ready to make her mark on the world and who does she have to report to? That’s right her first childhood crush. This story grabs you from the start, throws you in a whirlwind and have you cheering for Kaden and Ember. I voluntarily agreed to receive an ARC of this book for an honest review.
This book had me crying during some part and laughing the Prather parts. I felt like I was there with Kaden and Ember. Ryan and Gracie also made you fall in love with them. This book was just a love story it had heartache and love with some drama. I only wished we had a chapter of them getting married.
Brilliant book wonderful storyline and characters. Loved Kaden and Ember and the connection they had. Loved Ryan too. He turned out to be the big lovable brother she had always hoped for. This was a lovely heartwarming story with some tragedy so you may shed a few tears like I did but over all its just a lovely story. Well done again Ali.
Heartbreaking issues that actually happen more than realized.
I loved this book!! Could hardly put it down. I actually cried when I read the part with Kaden's Dad in the hospital and on life support. My Dad has been having a lot of health issues lately and been in and out of the hospital himself so I really felt for the character.
This is the story of Kaden and Ember. They grew up together and Kaden is best friends with Embers older brother. Usually the two get together and the best friends start fighting but not in this book. This one really has a story to tell. Really drags you in at the beginning and keeps you in its grips throughout the whole book. Standalone, easy read. Well done Ali.
This was a great book. You have a beautiful woman who had a crush on her brother’s friend back when they were younger. She has graduated from college and has moved to New York for a new job and it just happens to be at his dads business and he is one of her new bosses. Very good book!!
I just loved Kaden and Ember story!! They were such a great couple!! Ember had a crush on her brother best friend when they were young only to reconnect with him and fall in love!! I would recommend this book to anyone!
I read 3-5 books a WEEK and this has been one of the best ones I’ve read in a while! There was such a good balance between everything and I fell in love with both characters. You won’t regret reading this!
I love Ali Parker. Getting lucky wasn’t one of my top picks. The story was very good, but I was dragged out just a little bit to long. I loved the chemistry between Kaden and Ember. I would love a book on both Ryan and Gracie. This is worth the read
This was a nice read but longer than it needed to be. The internal monologues and constant sex scenes became monotonous. I actually skipped over a lot of those scenes. Otherwise a predictable, nice read.
This was really a fantastic read. It was very detailed and gave you what you wanted in a story. These two were dynamic together and the author did a great job of writing it. Great job Ali Parker!
Found this from a Facebook ad and was instantly interested. This book had just enough emotional rollercoaster that you wanted to ride! Kaden and Ember we're adorable, fierce and unpredictable!
This is a pretty good book. It is unbelievable, but it’s a romance so... A little on the long side, but it was good. Just not quite good enough for 5 stars. Heat index is high, without just being a sex romp.
Loved Ember, Kaden gets a strong like. But too much implausabilty. 23 year old intern becoming CFO ? A CFO having client meetings which aren't his job description. Kaden's dad treating his son so deplorably? And Kaden tolerating the abuse. Why? Just wanted it all to go away.
I enjoy light hearted romance and this might qualify if it wasn't so wordy. But what really killed it was the fact that it dead ends about 3/4 of the way thru the story! I DO NOT appreciate having to buy another book if I want to read the end!
She’s a far cry from his memories of her. Now she’s perfect—and going to be his. This is a fun taboo sort of story. Brother best friend and workplace stigma. Good stuff overall.
Well written story line. Ember just outsmarted her boss by being a smart 🚺. What will Mr. Marx junior going to do now. Another book to buy. Might have to wait a while.🤔🤔
Easy book to fall into with good characters and dialogue. Plot is simple and moved at a fairly quick pace.Definitely a page turner, however too short. Leaves on a cliffhanger albeit only a minor one.
I just wish it was one complete book or two longer books.
It was a fast read and it could have been longer. Yes I know the next book but can’t find it on kindle unlimited so I’m left with waiting till it goes there. Makes me unhappy and bad taste in mouth. The writing was good, the character I enjoyed
Ember and Kaden had a past. Kaden really didn't know Ember like he thought he did. One day changed everything. Ryan is Ember's brother and Kaden's best friend. I have to continue to read to see what the deal is with Kaden and his dad. I am fully invested.
