‘Welcome to my world – filled with love, laughter and happy ever afters’
This book is exactly as the author describes it above! Not my usual kind of read, but enough twists and turns in the story to keep me interested. It’s the perfect summer holiday read in that it won’t interfere with other activities by making you wonder what happens next!! I liked the way the women regained themselves and used their holiday to think about and make new beginnings. It tackles the conventional roles women take on – carer of the elderly, compromising wife and mother, lonely unloved overweight girl, and explores why these roles came about and the possibilities for changing them / breaking out / living for oneself. Benni, Emma and Ruth go on a journey that is both funny and heart breaking.
A wonderfully entertaining book, with heart warming characters we can all relate to. The picturesque setting of Brixham adds to the summer feel. More to this read than I first imagined!!
Will definitely be reading Erin Green again. Would love to see what happens to Benni, Emma and Ruth!!!

This is such a wonderful book. It is hard to talk about this book without giving spoilers and I really don't want to do that - however, anyone who reads this book will really enjoy their adventures with Ruth, Emma and Benni in Brixham. It is a story of true friendship and self discovery and I even just put it down thinking I may remember to 'be more Benni'. It all proves that it is never too late for new beginnings.

I have read and enjoyed previous books by Ern Green, so I was delighted to receive an early preview copy of this book from Netgalley and the Publisher.
This book features Ruth, Benni and Emma, three strangers who are sharing Rose Cottage in Brixham, Devon for solo holiday makers.
The three women seem to have little in common, but they quickly hit it off. It soon becomes apparent though that each of them have come away on holiday to escape their home situations. As the holiday progresses, they question whether they could actually have a new beginning in their lives.
The characters are all likeable and by the end of the book I was hoping that they all escaped from their old lives and had a happy outcome. The plot is enjoyable, and flows well, despite being told from the point of view from each of the three main characters. It was still easy to follow.I love Devon, and this book showcases the area perfectly.
This book is absolutely perfect for light summer reading. I really enjoyed reading it.

New Beginnings at Rose Cottage by Erin Green

Blurb

My Opinion

Those that have followed me for a while will know that I enjoy a good book by Erin Green - I popped into my local library and was shocked to discover a book that I had yet to read.

For me, this was a lovely, enjoyable, addictive read with a sweet romance and some lovely characters. With a heart-warming plot this book would make a great holiday read. It is difficult to write about how much I enjoyed this book without giving away any spoilers, so I am afraid you will just have to take my word for it.

I loved this book! Although it jumps around quite a bit, it doesn't make it hard to follow. It was just the perfect summer read with easy to like characters, a simple storyline and lovely imagery. I will be off to read some of Erin's other books now!

I thoroughly loved this contemporary romantic novel, set in Brixham which I visited a lot when I was young, so brought back fond memories.
Three women, of all different age groups, go on a solo holiday and stay together in a beautiful cottage. They become firm friends who support and encourage each other to follow their dreams, with ups and downs on the way.
I found the writing very visual, which is something I need to get fully engrossed in a book and I most certainly did. My first book by this author and not my last I'm sure!

Fantastic read. Charm and warmth beam from every page. Likeable characters (most of them!), beautiful setting, ice cream and romance. What more could you ask for? This book is so easy to get lost in and you will wish it was never ending. A heart warming tale. Suitable for any season, just add the hot drink or your choice and some nibbles and settle in!

Thank you Netgalley.

This is a warm, uplifting book about friendship and change. The story subtly explores in a charming way how easy it is to remain stuck in the same story of your life unless you make a conscious decision to bring changes. I love how the author has taken three women in different life stages and brought them convincingly together as friends. A real feel good read.

This is the first book I have read by Erin Green and it certainly won’t be the last. I thoroughly enjoyed it and couldn’t put it down. I loved the 3 main characters Ruth, Emma and Benni. They all had there own individual story and tell. It’s set in Brixham In Devon and I love that part of the world.

All in all this was a very well written book and I can’t wait to read her next book.

Heart-warming, feel good book! Genuinely feel like the characters in this book are your friends rather than characters. All truly relatable. Laughed, cried, smiled and reflected on my own life with this book. An easy read, nothing overly exciting but just a really lovely book.

This novel was everything I needed it to be on a blistering hot summer's day. It was uplifting, fun and reading about the Heston Blumenthal-esque flavoured ice creams cooled me down.
The premise of three single women, all strangers holidaying together was different and worked well. They are diffrent ages, personalities and are facing different problems but they discover new friendships and ways to be happy.
The setting was idyllic, perfect to escape to without leaving home and this was an entertaining read.

I was initially drawn to this book by the setting of Brixham in Devon. (Am I the only person who gets a craving for crabmeat where I hear the name of this town mentioned?) I am a sucker for a coastal setting in a novel, but I’ve never read one set here before and it is a place I have always wanted to visit, so what could be better than travelling there vicariously by book? The author brings the setting vividly to life through her writing, I could picture the town and the harbour and the lives of the locals quite clearly in my mind’s eye as I read. Unfortunately, this book did not satiate my desire to visit Brixham, it simply exacerbated it!

When I picked this book up, I thought it was going to be a straight-forward romance and, whilst romance is a big part of the book, the driving relationships in this book are the ones between the three women who are the heart of the story. This is a book about female friendship, the transformative power it can have on our lives and how it is never too late to make changes to improve your life. I really loved the fact that the three women in this book who come together as strangers in the beginning are all from different generations and backgrounds and with different life experiences, but these differences are no barriers to their friendship, or to being able to understand and support one another through the challenges that have brought them all to this cottage at the same time. It is really refreshing to see a book in which not all of the protagonists are young, as those of us in middle age know that life does not stop being interesting in your twenties and some of the most exciting changes in life can happen later on.

Not all of the characters are equally likeable, I found Emma in particular a little abrasive and edgy, but this is the genius of the author’s writing. Her characters are real people, not fluffy caricatures that I think some people can expect to find in this genre of novel. This is one of the ridiculous preconceptions about women’s fiction, that the characters are unrealistic and the storylines improbably upbeat. It takes skilled writers such as this to produce believable stories where people clash and get on each other’s nerves, make bad decisions and don’t resolve everything into a happy ever after, to change that belief and produce stories that mirror real life while still leaving us with the ‘feel good’ afterglow that is the reason we love these books. Women are complex creatures, both in and out of books! Erin Green treads this line with skill and panache, and anyone who enjoys women’s fiction that rises above the fluffy will love this book.

This is a warm and satisfying read with a great portrayal of realistic relationships and female friendship set against a picturesque back drop. What more could any romance lover ask for? I highly recommend it, especially in these dull days of January to put a little pep in your step.

This book has many of the things I love in a romance, but somehow isn’t quite my cup of tea. My main issue is the constant changing of the POV every few paragraphs - it meant that it took me at least half the book to work out who was doing what. I think if the book had been written in the third person POV, it would have flowed relatively well, though there were a few clumsy sentences.

The story itself (although with the multiple POVs it seems more like 3 separate stories) is good - all three characters have their own development, all are unhappy in their life as it currently stands, and all decide to make changes. The ending(s) is satisfying.

Overall, I’d say this is a good book, it needs a little tweaking to make it float my boat. For anyone who doesn’t find the changing POVs a struggle to keep track of, it is a summer romance/character development book with a happy ending for all.

I was given a free copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.

A nice summer story about 3 women who go to Devon on holiday and share a cottage. I have been to Brixham many times and so loved reading about it, along with th Golden Hind, and Totnes. I would love a follow up to see if they did fulfill their new beginnings further.

I picked up this book at a book warehouse sale. I mainly picked it up because of the cover decorated in flowers and a cute cottage. It looked like the perfect spring read. After reading I would definitely call it a summer read, due to the fact that the setting of the book takes place at a popular summer vacation spot. It was a cute story, but a much slower read than I’m used to. I’m glad I was able to finish it. I think the most important message of the book is to never wait to make the changes that you need to make in life to start living your best life. Pursue your passions and live in the moment.

New Beginnings at Rose Cottage is a well written easy read which I really enjoyed. I liked all of the characters and their development throughout the book. The cottage and its setting in Devon were both lovely - the sort of place I would love to visit on holiday.

Highly recommended - a lovely story of friendship, self discovery and new beginnings. A perfect holiday reading book or for a cosy afternoon on the sofa.

This is the first book I've read by Erin Green, and I thought it was fabulous.

Three very different women, Benni, Emma and Ruth, embark on a solo travellers holiday, and find themselves at Rose Cottage in Brixham, Devon.

Initially all three are a little wary, as they are of varying ages and backgrounds, but as the fortnight progresses, so does their friendship, as they each discover, they can share, certain past experiences, with each other.

At the end of the holiday, all three of the women, realise that if they are brave enough, a new beginning is well within their grasp.

I really enjoyed this book.
If you have ever had the luck of meeting someone for the first time and just knew that you would be best friends forever this book is for you.
Great story about how 3 women become instant best friends in a matter of days. This hit home for me as some of the people I consider my best friends were those that I met and we were as if we had known each other forever.
Reminds me how much I treasure my girl friends.
Narration was very well done. Now off to find another of her books!

An easy read. A good choice for holiday reading.
I really enjoyed this book, it's was a change from my usual Stephen King/Karin Slaughter/mystery books.
Benjamina (Benni), Emma and Ruth are solo travellers who book to spend two weeks holiday at Rose Cottage. The women are wary of one another at first being of different ages, backgrounds and interests but within a few days friendship starts to form. Each women finds inspiration to become more confident in themselves and begin to see there is more to life than their current circumstances

Like a lovely warm mug of chamomile tea and an afternoon with your closest friends… that’s what this book made me feel after reading it. An addictive and charming story as another reviewer put it so perfectly. One where you smile so contented at the end, drawn in by the highs and lows of the characters’ lives and their unknown journey to their ‘new beginnings’.
I also really want to visit Brixham now!

Fabulous book about friendship and new beginnings

This is the first book I've read by Erin and what a fabulous first read it was too! The three main characters are brilliant, well written and believable. Loved the story line for each one and the setting in Brixham took me back to childhood holidays and bought back lovely memories. Off to find the next book by Erin!

Three ladies, one holiday cottage. Not being able to get away in 2020 and the new year if 2021 just started this was an encouraging read for the new year. Long lost hobbies and dreams with new adventures and relationships. Written in the first person with each character having a heading in all the chapters. Loved it, didn’t want it to end.
