Harper Sloan is a New York Times, Wall Street Journal and USA Today best selling author. She resides in north Georgia with her three daughters, four cats and one dog. While being independently published is a dream, she also has three traditionally published titles with Pocket Books. When she isn't working hard on her next novel, you can most definitely find her with a book in hand.
Rather enjoyed this series over all, it reminded me a lot of the, Until series by Aurora Rose Reynolds crossed with the KGI series by Maya Banks in the way it was set up.
Built around a security company made up from a bunch of ex marines each book follows one of the “brothers” as they find love. All big, strong, alpha, possessive…very manly men!
I thought the series itself was well planned out and even through some of the books overlap a bit, you don’t get just a retelling in a different voice. No, each story, relationship has a different set of battles and things to overcome. It was woven together nicely. The pacing was good too
The problem I had was that it got very repetitive, I read this series over a week and I think it was just too much of the same all at once. If I had read them as they had come out and had some time in between them I may have felt different.
One thing I liked was a couple of things happened that I just did not see coming at all, and not something you see often in these types of books, well done Harper for being brave….not going to lie I cried like a baby in one of the books…….I think I may have been over tired at the time and I think that might have help towards my l state but I still cried!
Binge read this entire book! This is the first time that I have been able to do this with a series! I usually have to take a break and read something else in between.... Loved these men and the women who befriended and loved and healed with them!
I want my .99 cents back. I dnf on Axel- and am not interested in wasting any more time. I did not like the lingo and if I had to read "baby girl" one more time Id scream!
I really can't comprehend the Izzy/ Greg relationship... In addition I don't mind a book with a little fight over confusion but that's all this book is about- miscommunication.
That's a wrap... Now if I could just figure out how to get my .99 and the last 2 hours of my life back.. That'd be great!
Corps Security series by Harper Sloan. Complete series spoilers to follow.
Three stars. What a mixed bag this series was for me. So much so that it's kind of hard to review without being completely harsh. For the most part, the characters are extremely well thought out, especially the women, the depth of whose motivations can often take a back seat to the men's. These characters have a lot of damage to heal from before they can be together. And you can feel their pain and their struggles, you root for them, you get invested in them. This is what you want from your romance series. I was hooked from the start to the very end.
But.
There are so many issues with the plotting, the choices of which scenes to focus on, how certain characters react to certain situations, that I cannot recommend this series unless you can read it cheap or free. (I purchased the complete series at a special preorder price of 99¢.)
Starting at the beginning, with Izzy and Axel. Izzy is a great character. She's a bit immature, but that's understandable as being part of her denial of how over her past she isn't. Axel I didn't really get what made him so desirable. He was mostly a huge asshole. But the problems here are that Axel, Izzy, Greg and Dee all speak with the same disgustingly crass voice. I'm no prude when it comes to cursing, but this is so over the top and forced that it's distracting. And confusing, because any one of them can be saying anything. It's a problem that continues into book two. After that, the language chills out some and the characters have somewhat more distinct voices.
But my biggest complaint is that even though Izzy is completely traumatized by being controlled and owned by her ex, she has no problem when the same words are coming out of Axel's mouth. I had to stop reading and shake my head in disbelief. It really made no sense to me that her only reaction was to get more turned on.
It's a problem that comes up again in Locke and Emmy's book. Her only sexual partner raped her for months and beats the everloving shit out of her, but she gets off on spanking and rough sex? Just no.
All the women in the series are terribly brutalized. Not a problem for me, but it's all basically the same thing over and over. As is the sex. It is abundant and largely the same from book to book. By the halfway point of Beck and Dee, I was skimming through them. By Asher and Chelcie, I was skipping them completely.
I liked that the books overlapped, but hated that when it came to the overlapping scenes, they were briefly talked about when it would have been a much stronger move to write the fully from the other character's perspective. Especially when it came to Emmy and Coop's shooting. In fact, I often found that scenes that should have been fully developed were briefly referenced as having happened and vice versa.
So much in Dee's book brought me to tears. I knew from the first book that she had so much more going on, and I was glad so much focus was put on how oblivious her friends were. It's an important aspect that could have been easily ignored.
I had the hardest time connecting with Asher and Chelcie. They made me cry at times (Zac!), but I think because we didn't know them before, it was hard to fully invest.
Dee's book was great even though Beck wasn't that deep of a character.
Locke and Emmy had the best build up and thorough resolution, though the idea that his demons were worse than hers is preposterous. She was just better at dealing than he was.
Which brings me to my biggest issue with this series. These guys are a bunch of pussies, pardon my French. For all their alpha male controlling bedroom tendencies, they are basically big weeping vaginas when it comes to their feelings. It got annoying fast.
I don't know how the series is classified, but if it's military or suspense, I'd say that's wrong. While I don't think it's the intent, the writing comes across more new adult erotica, even though most of the characters are in their 30s. There was definite improvement in the writing over the course of the series, but overall it's a bit amateur. Still, like I said, I was hooked. These character and stories in another author's hands had the potential to be amazing.
Get this one to get the whole Corps Security experience
I LOVE THEM ALL Axel Cage Beck Cooper Locke Each one of them brought the drama, action, passion, intensity, intrigue, and romance. Each of these men knew how to love and love deep and hard. The found that one woman that would open their world up and change them forever.
This would be that perfect read for a long vaction and you needed time to yourself or a long weekend of totally hot, sweaty, intense, passion, drama, intrigue. You will laugh, cry, empathize, and more.
Adorei estes meninos e as respectivas mulheres deles! So cute!
Venham as histórias dos herdeiros e herdeiras deste legado!
Seriously, why I haven't read this series sooner??? Anyway, this series was just awesome, all the feels, over the top, with alpha guys and sassy women who kept them on their toes!
I absolutely loved being able to read each book, one after the other. The journey that each couple goes on, had me glued, from start to finish. Harper Sloan made me cry tears of laughter as well as tears of sadness. She was able to turn my opinion of some characters from finding them infuriating, to then feeling understanding for what has driven them and finally happiness when things work out. Not very often an author can make you empathise with a character, after finding them irritating. The guys adore their women. They all pull together and make sure that when things go wrong, and in some cases horribly wrong, they are all there, giving each other the support needed. They are family, without the DNA bond. My two favourite characters are Sway and Cohen. Between the glitter and 'wiener earrings' those two brought some much needed light relief during the dark times. Only one man holds my heart though and it was a close call between two, but in the end Asher just beat Maddox to the post. I was sure Maddox would be my favourite but now, after finishing all the books, I know Asher is my man. All the guys and girls have demons to fight and overcome before they get their HEA, and each journey is different. This is a series that I know no will enjoy over and over again.
This is one of my ABSOLUTE favorite series EVER!!!!!
Axel This book sucked me in by the second page!!! I was hooked & finished it in a little over a day! It was fantastic!!!
I would like to add that there are several scenes that could act as a trigger. They are very dark.
Cage While it took a little bit longer to really get into this book, like maybe the middle of the first chapter, by the end I was in love. Greg Cage is my go to BBF & he will be yours too. This book will make you laugh & cry & scream in anger, but in the end you will be in love with Greg & Melissa & Cohen! Harper Sloan is great!
Beck OMG!!! This book most definitely requires a box of tissue when you read it! Very intense but oh so good!!! It's really hard for me to decide if Axel or Beck was the best. I will say, I usually have no problem going from one book to the next but after reading Beck I couldn't stop thinking about it & couldn't begin another book until the next day. Can't wait for Harper Sloan's next book.
Uncaged Somehow I have to find the words to do justice to one of the best author’s I’ve ever read. As always Harper Sloan has written a book that takes you from one extreme to the other of your emotions. I ABSOLUTELY loved Uncaged & can’t wait until Asher comes out. I even read whole pages of this book to my husband (& not the “good” parts either). As always this book is only for adults due to explicit descriptions of mind blowing intimacy & “wiener rings”!!!
Somehow I have to find the words to do justice to one of the best author’s I’ve ever read. As always Harper Sloan has written a book that takes you from one extreme to the other of your emotions. I ABSOLUTELY loved Uncaged & can’t wait until Asher comes out. I even read whole pages of this book to my husband (& not the “good” parts either). This book is for mature audiences only.
Cooper As usual, Harper Sloan has a hit on her hands.
I really wasn’t sure how Harper was going to pull off this book. After Beck how could she write a book about Cooper. Cooper is dead. OMG!!!! Was I ever wrong!!!
Cooper is heart wrenching, heartwarming, sexy, and fanfreakingtastic. Asher is so broken at the beginning of this book. Can he come back from the loss of the most important person in his life? Does he even want to? Are his feelings for Chelcie enough to pull him back from the edge?
And Chelcie… Who would have thought that she was all that she ended up being. Talk about a strong female role. WOW!!! And what a heart that girl has!!!
“We all have that person, Dee. Beck is yours. Axel is Izzy’s. Melissa’s is Greg. Hell, Emmy is Maddox’s. Every. Single. One. Of. Us. We have that person who makes us complete. He is my person.”
Yes, this book is just as good as the rest of Harper Sloans’ other books. Now, on to Maddox!!!!!
Locke I can’t believe it is over!!!! WOW!!! Harper’s fans have been waiting for this book from the very beginning & she did NOT disappoint! I knew, just pages into Axel, that I was going to LOVE this series & I absolutely have. Not one single book in this series has let me down. And I have such a love for Cohen, I can’t even describe it.
Once I started reading this book I just couldn’t understand how Locke became the wonderful man he already was. But it was completely understandable why he felt his soul was so evil. And Emmy, OMG!!!! Who would have believed her backstory. Despite everything she has been through & will go through in this book, she is such a strong character. And she is determined to bring Maddox through his demons to the place he needs to be to be happy & to accept her love.
One of the things I really love about these books is the way Harper shows us what is happening in the lives of the other characters we have come to love. And of course, we get our (at least my) dose of Cohen, too. Of all the books I have read in the last year or so, Cohen is my absolute FAVORITE character. And the ending, I LOVED it, except for, of course, it was the ENDING!!!!
I laughed, I cried, I got pissed off, I sighed!!!! I can not wait to see where Harper Sloan will take her fans next!!!
Favorite quote, I have a couple: Really, those two combined have a level of douchiness that could clean a vagina better than Summer’s Eve.
“Hey!” a small voice screams from the kitchen. “Look, Dilbert! Maddox Locke is a transformer! MOMMY! I wanna be a transformer just like Maddox Lock!” (Of course, anything that little boy says is my favorite.)
I HIGHLY recommend this series. If I could give more than 5 stars I would!!!
Get ready for some HOT alpha men and their strong females to take over your reading pleasure.
Each and every book regarding the Corps Security men is right here in one beautiful package. And once you crack it open, be prepared to not set it down until its finished, and then you will want to pick it up again and start at the beginning all over again.
We start out with Axel and with all of his Alpha hotness, he is as wounded and lost as Izzy, their story is not easy, but not much in life is. They find each other and even though the road to happiness may be hard, it's always worth it in the end.
Next we get Cage and lets just say that man can be my beast any day of the week!! Everyone has secrets and when they are exposed sometimes that can make the end result that much sweeter, not always but sometimes it happens....besides we get to meet Cohen and all of his "Cohenisims"
Beck...what can I say about Beck that hasn't been said already? All I will say is prepare yourself, this one is one of the harder ones for me to talk about. The feels from this one were off the charts, and I'm thankful I got to feel even just a little bit of them. I can't imagine how hard it is for an author to write something that affects a reader (at least it did me) and be able to continue writing. Bravo, Mrs. Sloan. Bravo!
Uncaged yes we get another glimpse into the Cage family and the wonderful love that Greg and Melissa share. We also get to see this group come together and help support each other and the feels just keep coming.
Cooper, Cooper, Cooper. Once the feels start, they really don't stop. To be able to see two people come together after so much has happened...it give my heart a happy feeling. I laughed and cried with this book, and had to take a cold shower or two - after all we are talking about the Corps men here after all.
Locke - the mysterious man who hid behind his friends. I knew this book would be off the charts, and I'm so glad that it didn't fall short. We learn all about the demons that haunt Locke, and I'm so glad he found his forever. And can I just say that with everything this man has been through, he is a superhero to me.
While each and everyone of the Corps men were perfect, the joys of this series is, you don't have to choose just one favorite. All of the characters will find a way into your heart for one reason or another, and lets just say that if you are able to choose just one (and stick to it) you are a better person than I am. I do have the one I fall back to when I need it, but they all will find a place in your hearts (and maybe dreams) and really...what could be better?!
Holy hotness this box set is amazing. I only give 5 star reviews when they really deserve it and these books really deserve it. All of these strong men step up and give the woman that they are meant to be with exactly what they need even when it drives them a little nuts to get it at the time. In the first book Axel and Izzy knew each other years ago but circumstances and people conspired to keep them apart. Now years later fate has brought them back into each others lives and Axel want the one woman he was meant to spend forever with. Cage and Melissa were just meant to be a one night stand or so they both thought but one night together will never be enough. Cage vows to not only avenge his sisters memory but also protect the woman he is claiming as his. Beck knows that it will never be smooth sailing for him and Dee but he will fight for his woman even when she won't fight herself. This is a great story about the power of love and what it can do for someone when they are finding it hard to see the light at the end of the tunnel. The next story we have we revisit Cage and Melissa this is a short story were we see them going through something no parent wants to go through with the birth of their daughters. The next book is Cooper Asher is still dealing with the death of his brother and no matter how much he want to claim his sunshine he isn't sure he can with where his head is at. Chelce is hiding something from Asher and until she is sure that he wants her for her she is not telling her secrets. This book is an amazing story about finding love and knowing that If you look into the light you can beat back the darkness. The final book in this series is so amazing it is Locke and Emmy's. We have seen these two characters in all the previous books and this is now there story. Maddox is sure that is darkness is to much for his perfect Emmy, but Emmy has a past too filled with a darkness that only a few outside the people it involved know about. When Emmy runs Maddox follows and is determined to find a way to bring them both to a better place. This series is one that will make you laugh, make you cry, and have you cheering for a HEA. This s a absolute must read.
Absolutely riveting!!! I want a Corps Security Man!!!!!
Best Box Set that I have ever read!!! Hooked from beginning to end!!! Couldn't put it down!!! Let's start at the beginning: AXEL Axel and Izzy have a past. One that Izzy would like to forget and Axel would like to resume. Hot, torrid and extremely sexy these two were made for each other. They had me hooked from the minute they saw each other again for the first time in years. Brilliant!!! CAGE Cage is the brother you want, when you don't have one. The big teddy bear everybody can rely on. Melissa is everybody's sweetheart. Together they are perfection. Then add in Cohen!!! OMG!! What a mix. BECK This book was absolutely beautiful..but you it does require the use of tissues!! Beck and Dee are just simply wonderful together. A game of cat and mouse is the best way to describe them. UNCAGED This is a continuing story of Cage and Melissa. It covers every emotion that you could possibly experience. COOPER How could there be a Cooper when there is no Coop? Easy, meet Coop's brother Asher. Asher is suffering terribly from the loss of his brother, enter Chelcie. What a woman!!! This would have to be the best book of the series so far!!! LOCKE This is the one I so desperately wanted to read. And Harper Sloan you did not let me down!!! Maddox and Emmy are just perfect. Both with horrific pasts and both still able to comfort each other!!
Absolutely loved every single book. Enough to want to re-read them straight away. Every gamut of emotion is covered throughout this addictive series. A credit to Harper and her writing. My favorite character throughout would have to have been Sway 'Dilbert' the gay hairdresser!! He stole every scene he was in. Bravo!!! Certainly worth more than 5*****
5 Star Review of Corps Security: The Series by Harper Sloan
I had the pleasure to meet Harper Sloan at the Tennessee Author Event in July last year. What a truly open, friendly and wonderful lady she is.
Hardly surprising therefore that the Alpha Men of Corps Security would be the same. I totally adore stories with alpha men, throw in ex-military and women not afraid to fight for their men and I am so there. That is what Corps Security: The Series is all about.
I couldn't believe she released at a price of $0.99. What an absolute bargain. A box set like this could be sold for 10 times that much and still I would have purchased it.
This series will always hold a special place in my heart, not just for the steaminess, the well written stories, but the truly ugly cry that it gave me. I sobbed so hard at one point that I thought I would wake the household.
I will also never ever look at glitter again without thinking of Harper and Sway. In fact the bottle of glitter I got in Tennessee holds a special place in my heart.
If you haven't had the pleasure of reading this series, do yourselves a favour and grab it while you can. I intend to purchase the print book as soon as I can.
This is a must read series which I highly recommend.
This has been one of my favorite series since I first discover Axel last year. No matter how many times I read it I fall in love with them all over again. Axel- oh how I love Axel and Izzy. Therefore is powerful and makes you believe in love conquering all even after years apart. Cage- oh Cage my man, Cage is my favorite Corps man. Greg and Melissa are am amazing couple and Cohen just adds laughter and love to the whole series. Beck- this book broke me! Absolutely heartbreaking and an amazing powerful love story all around. Dee has been a favorite of mine from day one and I am so glad she got her HEad Uncaged- oh more Cage :) this was an emotional rollercoaster for me. And I loved every second of Melissa and Greg's pregnancy. Cooper- I love Chelcie and my heart hurt so much for her. Asher and Chelcie were absolutely amazing together and how such an emotional tragedy can actually bring love together. Locke- oh Maddox! So full of demons and so in love yet stubborn and pig headed. I loved the fight for love between Maddox and Emmy. I am sad this series is over I fell hard for each of the Corps Security men and their families, but Cage will always by my ultimate BBF...
>Book review – Corps Security: The Series >I am an independent reviewer. This compilation contains all 6 books in the Corps Security series; Axel, Cage, Cooper, Uncaged, Beck and Locke. The series ends at book 6, but leaves an opening for the second generation, if the author so desires. I sure desire more. >Each book in this series tackles the life, loves and demons of a different member of the Corps Security group. All end in an HEA. The fun thing that differentiates this series from other similar series is that the stories often overlap and take place at the same time. It is fun reading the same scene from a different point of view in different books. >Fans of the Alpha male will LOVE these books. They are so protective, over the top protective. I didn’t like that the females all end up in the hospital. That plot point made the books a bit similar. Otherwise, this series had great characters and great endings. The angst and sexiness was off the charts. I would love for the second generation to get their own books. The reader is teased a bit by having epilogues set 20 years in the future and these kids are just as interesting as their parents! This book is for an adult audience.
Axel was bad, my comment from 1.22.2015 " just finished Axel and it was terrible. All the benevolent sexism, one dimensional tripod alpha-holes and over the top dramatics I expect from NA but supposedly about a couple in the early thirties. I got this because it was cheaper than buying Locke on its own. Cage can't be worse, right?"
Cage- DNF 1.22.2015 because he Glad I skipped out.
Beck was a DNF and Cooper didn't even get a glance.
Locke-I bought this set for Locke but after finding out that I am skipping that, too.
Often, with a boxed series, it is necessary to 'rest' in between books in order not to overload and get bored. Not this series.
Even though the corps security guys are all tall, handsome, muscled and seriously sexy they are all significantly different from each other. Their partners are also a smorgasbord of complicated, loving women.
Each couple has to overcome many obstacles that are strewn in their path to try to keep them apart. All have to rely on their friends and colleague to achieve their HEA.
I cried and laughed my way through the series in one sitting. For the record I will say that Cohen's innocent questions and comments had me laughing out loud...probably because I experienced many similar scenarios with my three year old son.
Harper Sloan's writing is impeccable. Her scenes are believable. She knows what her readers want. I strongly recommend this series to anyone who likes intrigue and suspense before the loving conclusion.
I loved every single one of these guys in this series. I was happy to find out that Harper Sloan is coming out with a book for Cohen. I couldn't put any of these books down and finishing Locke was bittersweet because I am happy he got his happy ending but I didn't want the story to end. Since starting Axel, I couldn't wait to get to Maddox's story. With each book I was anxious to read about the mysterious Maddox. Beck is by far my favorite man from this series, he has such a big heart and no matter how much hell Dee put him through he stood by her side knowing there was more going on with her than meets the eye. I am curious to see if Cohen is anything like his father, Greg Cage. If you are looking for a book with some hot alpha men with big hearts, you need to read this series.
Well, I'm glad I read these. It was an entertaining set of stories. Very reminiscent of Kristen Ashley, how her men spoke. Parts were sad -- lots of girls getting the shit kicked out of them and people whose parents should never have been allowed to procreate. But generally speaking, the stories were good. I *really* wish the author had another editor take a last run through on each of the stories. There were lots of punctuation issues, words missing, extra words that made phrases make no sense, and word usage was an issue (the ever-present too vs to and then the interesting use of medal and pedal, among others). Thankfully, this was one of those series where the stories overcame the errors.
Omg. This series is hot. I love all the guys. Axel, Greg, Beck, Cooper, Locke (aka Maddox Locke). But I truly think that the best character in the book is (3 turning 4 years old) Cohen. He absolutely adorable. From the time he arrives in the story until the end, he is everyone's heart but especially Maddox Locke (by the way he is the only one that calls him that, everyone else calls him Mad, Maddox or Locke).
All the guys and their respected other halves all have problems and the one person that seems to be able to straighten their heads around is Maddox, so when he is struggling it really only takes a 4 years old to get it together.
I hope that their is a continued series coming especially covering Cohen and the next generation to see how these very protected fathers handle it
I don't know how or why I waited so long to read these, but let me say....holy glitter!!! Loved every single character in the series....from start on Friday to finishing now on Monday, I never wanted to put it down.
I met the author over a year ago, my first signing, friends were raving and EVERYONE wanted the glitter!! Now I know why...From Axel to Cage to Beck to Cooper to Locke...the Alpha-Men and the CS with Sway next door will have you FEELING like never before!! I admit I want Cohen's story more than anything and hope the author has plans to tell it....cuz the teasing bits are awesome....seriously each book left me begging for the next. #swaygasam #yolo #yeah
This is definitely one of my all-time favorite series! Harper Sloan knows how to write stories that not only melt your panties, they also melt your heart! Her characters are so relatable that you feel like you are a part of their world as you read about their trials and triumphs! Each book is unique, but they are rightfully bound together in this set because the Corp Security guys are truly a family, bound together by their experiences and love for each other. These are stories that stay in your mind and heart long after you read the last page! I highly recommend this set! Thank you Harper for giving so much goodness in one amazing package!!
