This is a good overview of solar panels. As it states, it is a beginners guide so if you already know a bit, but not quite enough, this might help but be boring in some places. It also starts off as a total rah! rah! solar! in the beginning. I didn't have a problem with that or the simplistic start. I did get information that I didn't know and am using parts of the book as a reference. Other information, I've researcher further on-line. This at least got me to what I needed know to look for and research.

BTW- look for solar coops in your area that band together to negotiate prices of the panels.

Great read, no filler!

Right to the point. Easy simple diagrams. The electrical part is easy for all. I know it written with non-electrical person in mind. He uses "C" for current but the label on the cell you buy might use "I" for current. I have been in electrical/electronic work for 30+ years; and I don't remember why the use "I" but the do. This book is easy to read. Follow the embedded links to get the extra details.

Disappointed

Very disappointed in this book. The first couple of chapters are a bad cheerleading session for solar power complete with bad science. I am already a fan based on real proven science and engineering. He does very little to deliver on the promise of the title. Even for free thisnwasna waste of my time bandwidth and electricity to read it.

Good intro to solar setups

A great start for the curious reader who is considering putting in a solar system.
There is a lot to think about before you spend the money to put in a system.

Tooo pestering publisher

Useless links took pestering to buy more books that are not needed. This is killing the reading spirit. Thank u for this opportunity.

I'm reading this book now, and so far, the information seems okay (not great), but would it have been that hard to use an editor/proofreader? There are many places where his writing is confusing or just plain wrong ("The sun is practically an inexhaustible source of energy." Practically? When was the last time the sun was used up? "Every owner of a photovoltaic system contributes to the carbon dioxide pollution and global warming.") Please -- if you're going to write a book in English and it's not your native language, get help! When a reader gets hung up on the things that are worded poorly or that are just plain wrong, it takes away what good the book may have inside. I'm going to go ahead and finish reading it because we are starting to use solar, but I'm very disappointed in that aspect of this book.

I've read other books about solar power. This one gives you straight facts about Grid-tied and off-grid systems. It gives you basic facts about how to buy solar power. What kinds of systems are out there, and how to hire an installer. Other considerations includes are about local laws about solar power and some information about government perks. There is a list of references with the book as well. I thought the information was current and profitable.

The book started out well but become boring and technical afterwards, which put me off.

I'll mention some quotable bits later.

Not great

This would be a good magazine article for a total novice. No depth at all.
Don't pay for it, it will take you about 10 min to read it.
