Brie picked the wrong guy—gave him the wrong finger.

When her fiance walks out three weeks before their wedding, she slowly picks up the pieces with the help of her friends. A serial monogamist, she's not quite ready to start dating again. There are some things she misses about having a boyfriend, though. Her friends convince her to try something more casual. Random hookups have never been her thing. When a guy she has flirted with for a while offers his services to solve her dilemma, she can't help but be intrigued. Now she's trying to keep things casual, but when she's wrapped in his arms, it's hard to remember she's not supposed to be falling for him.

Max has had a few hookups since he split with his last girlfriend. Lately, though, he feels like something is missing. He has crushed on the girl he affectionately calls Cheese for years, but the timing was never right. When he finds out they're finally single at the same time, he is poised to make his move. Unfortunately, she's only looking for something physical. Of course, Max is happy to oblige, but the more time they spend together, the more certain he becomes that she's the perfect girl for him.

He pulls out all the stops, and just when he's about to make his move from the friends-with-benefits zone to serious dating, Brie completely ghosts on him. Now he has to figure out if she has really walked away, or if something more serious is keeping him from the girl of his dreams.

Funny, sexy, and satisfying, The Dating Alternative is a standalone new adult/contemporary romance.

The title is what caught my attention on this one, though the blurb was the usual romance plot. Brie, the heroine was dumped just before her wedding and she decided to try out fling style dating instead of relationships. And that's how the book started.

When I began the book, I thought it was the usual run of the mill romance but as I continued I enjoyed the writing style. It really added character to the tale and kept me flipping the pages to finish it. The language was easy to read and really flowed and was natural. At no place, was it forced or artificial. That's one point which made me have fun with the playful banter between Brie and Alex. The story had the right tone, appropriate to the scenes throughout the tale. I loved the fact that the author wrote the book in both Brie's and Alex's POV which made me peek into their innermost thoughts. This added to the romantic vibe between the two.

Another point which really caught my eye was that the hero, Alex was more invested in the relationship, contrary to the usual trope of the heroine falling first in love. And I loved him for his patience and sexiness. Was he hot!? Yes! I was literally drooling, I tell you. Brie felt a bit more naive to me and she didn't measure up to Alex in my opinion. But as a couple? I adored them because of the sweetness. And on that point, I wish the author had gone with more sweet than steam. Yes the romance is again super hot and that kind of put me off a tiny bit because I am getting tired of all the sensual times though it didn't keep me from enjoying the book.

I didn't anticipate the twist near the end but it was a pleasant surprise which tied up all the threads of the plot. Other thing I didn't like was that the author was using Max and Alex in the former and latter parts of the book. I wish she had used only one name throughout the story. All in all I relished the read and I would definitely check out her other books if a chance arises.

All the thoughts noted are my own and aren't impacted by anything.

My one line review : A steamy sweet romance with playful banter between the protagonists.

The Dating Alternative is a light and fluffy romance book. It's fast pace, it's nothing too complex, and it has characters that you can't help but like. It's not dense with plot, or drama. It's easy to read, and it's overall a feel good novel.
Personally, I feel like the writing could've been a bit better, and some things could've been further expanded on.
But if you're a fan of the romance genre and are thinking about picking up this book, you won't regret it.

I thoroughly enjoyed this story but it wasn’t 5 stars for me. I found the characters’ thoughts to be quite repetitive. The story wasn’t original per se, but I liked the plot twist. Even though it was quite predictable. The characters were also rather likeable and I might have fallen a bit for Max. What also was a great plus was the humor. This story really made me laugh out loud at some points.

“What if I were your alternative?” I raise an eyebrow, and her gaze is still fixed on mine. She doesn’t flinch. Holy shit, is she considering it? Has she maybe even thought about it already?”

Brie was abandoned by her the fiancé just three weeks before the wedding. And after a long time suffering, she's ready to get back with her life. At least that's what her friends think. In fact, a relationship is the last thing she wants in her life right now, everything that happened left her with no confidence in the opposite sex. But according to her friends, what she needs to move on is a lot of casual sex, several one-night stands, to just relax and enjoy. A pity that in practice, this decision does not go as expected.
Max has given up a promising career and today is a bartender as he saves money to start his own business. Coming home and finding his fiancee fucking her boss was not his best moment. But he's finally single, and may be focusing on himself for a change.
Brie and Max share friends in common, and so are known. And for a move of fate, the two are finally single at the same time. The truth is that Max has always been attracted to her, and now that he can take a chance, she does not want a serious commitment, just fun. A role he can play with great pleasure, after all, being close to her, he can make her fall in love, right? After all, who would resist his charm?
It is obvious that this casual arrangement will not last long as the two spend more time together, feelings come up, and with a passionate Max and a reluctant Brie, these two will have a long journey to the happy ending.
Add lots of funny and cute messages, a hilarious grandmother, a countdown to Sunday, and some perfect dates, and the book will spark romance.
A situation in Brie's work will add some tension to the book. The “villain” is predictable, but nothing to disrupt the narrative. This whole situation serves to Max shows his side "enchanted prince who rescues the damsel in distress".
Brie was sometimes a bit annoying. Max was perfect. Overall, it was a good read, a good novel, light, unpretentious and funny.

Getting your life back together after your fiancé has dumped you right before your wedding? Easy or not? The Dating Alternative tells the story of Brie, who had her heart broken big time. Luckily there’s Max, who just is what she needs. I love this sweet story.
“I’ve always liked this girl, but since she told me she’s single, I’ve been thinking about her a lot more than usual.”

Brie thought she had it all; a fiancé and a job she liked (well, sort of…). That’s until fiancé-dear decides he wants somebody else and is gone before Brie can blink her eyes. Nowadays its just work and spending time with her friends for Brie; no men and certainly not a new relationship. But then Max shows up, a sweet guy who had a similar experience like Brie. And the best part; Brie and Max know each other. Not that they’re close friends, but they’ve run in the same circles. And both are single now…
“He leans down, and brushes his lips, those soft, sweet, strong lips against mine, and I melt against him.”

Brie and Max are a cute, swoon worthy couple, they are perfect for each other. However, Brie isn’t so sure about Max (or starting a new relationship in general). Her fiancé’s betrayal has made her skittish, and she doesn’t want to get hurt again. Max is an amazing guy who finally sees his chance with Brie, he takes whatever she’s willing to give him. Of course, their ‘arrangement’ is doomed to fail (hello, this is a romantic story) and Max and Brie have their Happily Ever After.

The Dating Alternative is my very first read by Jennifer Woodhull, and I’m pleasantly surprised. I love her writing, and her characters. Max and Brie feel like real people, who talk and react realistically. No over-the-top drama, no annoying exes who try to destroy the couple’s happiness. Is there no drama at all? Well, there’s a secondary storyline, but that doesn’t take away from Brie and Max. As I said, I have enjoyed reading this book, and I will definitely pick up other books by this author.
“This isn’t really dating. This is something much, much more.”

Brie’s fiance` walks out on her three weeks before they are to be married. All to be with a tan goddess. Brie’s whole world crumbles and her self-esteem has taken a huge hit. Six months later, Brie’s friends decide it is time to get back out there.

Max is a ex-lawyer turned bartender. He just could not take the life of a lawyer anymore. So he left his father’s firm and decided to bar tend and save to open his own bar. After he caught his live in girlfriend in an uncompromising position with her boss, he has taken a break from dating.

On Bries’ night out with the girls she runs into Max. He is tending bar in the spot her and the girls go to. Her and Max have known each other for a few years, through other social circles.

Max has always crushed on Brie. But the timing was never right. So when the planets align and they find each other single, Max decides that he must jump on this golden opportunity. The only problem with that is that Brie’s ex did a number on her and she doesn’t want to date. She is only looking to scratch that itch. No strings attached. Max can do that. But he wants more. He is just going to have to convince her she is his.

This book has some amazing characters in it. It has some crappy ones too…wink wink. I absolutely loved Max. He is amazing. He is smart, funny caring and sexy. Holy hell ladies…this man is HOT!!!!

Brie is a sweet girl. She really does get the shit end of the stick. She is caring and her ex really did a number on her. Her self-esteem took a really hard hit. As a result she is very insecure and constantly doubts herself. Not to mention her other issues that knock her for a loop. You will see when you read it.

I have to say this book was a great read. It was not just your normal friends to lovers to forever type of romance. This book is so much more. It has an excellent twist in it that will have you dropping a few choice words.

This book will pull at those heart strings, so be prepared. Tissue…check. Wine…check. Comfy jammies…check. Pull up that blankie, curl up on the couch and get ready to have your emotions played with. You will be so glad you did.

The Dating Alternative by Jennifer Woodhull is a sweet and sexy second chance romance. Sabrina is going through a difficult time in her life. Both professional and personal. Her heart got broken by her would be husband and she is afraid to go for another relationship now. She knew Max, bartender from local bar for a while and they are good friends. Though they felt the chemistry, the timing was never right. Max has his own issues to deal with too. So what would happen? Would they find a way around their personal obstacles to find some alternative? Would love find them again?

I loved Max's character! He has depth and a brilliant sense of humor. He is the kind of guy who makes you wonder why you cannot find them in real life. He is so dreamy! And Sabrina's character is amazing too. What I enjoyed about the book was the story telling. There is no hurry, no excessive drama, no big games. The author takes her own time to slowly build up the fire between Max and Brie. I love reading these stories because they relax my mind and always make me feel so good. The sex is passionate and explosive yet it never seems forced. This love making was real and honest. The conversations are equally important as the physical acts. The story has some major twists at the end which made the story even more enjoyable. A true romance in it's heart, this story was amazing and a great read!

This is an unbelievably lovely, warm and sweet romance.

Max & Brie are perfect together. Their romance embodies what most people fantasize about: crushing on someone from afar, then finding out that they have a chance with said crush.

Max & Brie get together at a time when Brie is facing difficulties on both the professional & personal/romantic fronts. Max realises that he has his work cut out for him and plots to upgrade their current relationship every opportunity he gets. I liked that he laid it all out for her and allowed her to figure out what she wanted. He was decisive in a way that wasn't creepy or pushy. He really is great fantasy boyfriend.

Brie is the nice girl. She's still emotionally stunned after her ex's betrayal, and knows she has to figure some things out before she moves on. A second chance to explore a relationship with Max arises, and though she has misgivings, she decides to try.

I liked the flow and simplicity of the plot. There were no heavy secrets, or big dramas to complicate matters; it was simply two people realising that love could still be found even when you've had your heart broken badly.

I recommend this book.

I voluntarily read & reviewed an ARC of this book.

5 STAR Review by Jodi for Ruby Red Romance Review

I can't begin to tell you how much I enjoyed this book from start to finish. I loved Sabrina. Her character has gone through so much, but has come out a stronger woman in the end. Max and Sabrina have major chemistry, but as with most things the timing was always off. I loved watching these two become so much more to each other. In the beginning, it was just about getting over and moving on, but evolved into so much more.

I think what I loved most about this story was the depth of these two characters. Max was such much more than a character for me. He was honest, raw, and had emotions that I've not felt from a male book character in a long time. This story was developed and made me feel like it was actually there watching two of my friends fall head over heels in love with one another. I love that. I love when I get sucked in and feel like I'm part of the story, I'm part of the fall. The Dating Alternative did just that for me. Please check out this awesome story.

The cover is amazing, the blurb sounded divine. I was really looking forward to reading this one.

But, it just didn't work for me. The characters were much too similar - Brie's fiance left her for another woman 6 months ago. Max caught his fiance cheating on him 7 months ago... While I like them both and wish them all the happiness in the world, their voices are nearly identical and I'm finding myself having to skim back to see who's thoughts I'm privy to at the moment.

While I love the idea for the story, I think it's the writing style that's bothering me. At 26% in I'm seeing way too many short, choppy, factual sentences. They didn't flow well and I found it difficult to connect.

In some ways these are the hardest reviews to write because, I can see the potential. The plot as I've seen so far is absolutely something I would love. But overall, I think it needs a couple very brutal rounds with an editor.

I loved Max he was so sweet and patient! Lord was he patient. Max had met Brie years ago and they were both attracted to each other but the timing was never right for them, one or the other was in a relationship whenever they saw each other but now they were both single and interested. Unfortunately Brie had a difficult breakup her sleezy ex had cheated on her and broke up with her right before her wedding leaving her scared. But, Max also had a similar experience but he was ready to start a new relationship and Brie was the one for him. Brie was gun shy and she annoyed a little with the (not part of rules) bit, but she wised up only to have her world crash down on her but Max saves the day!!..Grab a copy and Enjoy!

This is my first read from this author and it was quite a good story. I thought I knew where things were going but a twist threw me off the trail completely. It made the book even better in my opinion as it kept me on my toes a little bit.

Brie is an accountant who has not had the best past relationships. Her ex is a doozy and if he acted like that to me he would have gotten more then yelled at, that’s for sure!!

Max is a bartender and has always had a thing for Brie. He tends to keep things close to his chest and not let them out. It takes him a little bit to open up to Brie.

The author has written to story well and given it a nice easy flow. It is humorous in parts as well, which is an added bonus. I enjoyed the storyline and the characters and look forward to reading more by this author in the future.

Max and Cheese, just their names together sounds perfect in every way. Well in Max's eye it does. The problem is that Cheese aka Sabrina is more than just a friend something he is finding out. The chemistry between them just sizzles the pages and man Max is one hot sexy bartender. Jennifer Woodhull blew me away in this book not only the storyline but showing us that to never give up on meeting the right one. Loved it.

After being dumped by her fiancé 3 weeks before the wedding, Bree is done with dating. She is looking for an alternative becomes friends with benefits with Max. Before the start you already know this causual relationship isn't going to last long. This wasn't an as cute romance as I was hoping, but still enjoyable. I liked Max and his grandma. Bree annoyed me at times. Overall this was an okay and quick read, but I don't think I'll read something by this author again.

In love with Max, he is way up there in the book boyfriend roster. I appreciated the friendship between the couple before they were involved. I just really enjoyed the flow and pacing of this book. I felt like the book could have been longer, however. I definitely want an epilogue with Max and Cheese. 😘

My Review (ARC provided)
3.5-4 stars!

I had no idea what this book was going to be about, it sounded interesting, and I had never read the author before so I thought I’d give it a try.
I liked the concept of the book and although the book in the beginning drug out a little bit, I thought the second half of the book was terrific.
I loved Max, he knew what he wanted and wasn’t afraid to go after it. Brie, on the other hand, didn’t have a clue what she wanted, and what she thought she wanted didn’t go with her personality, but she stuck to her guns and went with it.
Max, not her usual type but she’s always been attracted to, and he has always had a crush on her, the timing was just never right. Now that the timing was, Max was determined to show Brie he was boyfriend material.
One thing I have to say that got to me a bit was Max’s nickname for Brie. I’m not a big fan of nicknames anyways and although it was clever, I thought in intimate moments it shouldn’t be used.
Max’s grandma was another great addition to this story, and I enjoyed reading about their relationship.
I loved the twist in the end and liked how everything was settled. The second half of the book was four-four and a half stars. I would definitely read this author again, and I hope to get a book about Max’s brother.

This wasn’t my favorite but it wasn’t a bad book by any means. Brie is an accountant who had a traumatic break up. She reconnects with Max and they begin a friend’s with benefits relationship.

I kind of didn’t like Max. He was pushy against Brie’s want to keep things casual. He pressured her to make decisions about their relationship after a very short amount of time. I also didn’t like how he kept his past pretty secretive, for no reason, then got mad at her when she didn’t call him for help.

There needs to be some suspension of disbelief with the plot surrounding Brie’s job. I am an accountant and what happened to her is way beyond realistic. Also, Max called her “Cheese” 192 times in this book. It was excessive.

Overall the writing was good and I probably will check this author out again. I just wasn’t crazy about this couple.

I received an ARC of The Dating Alternative by a few days ago and it is one hell of a book and story. I love reading books from new authors and getting to know new characters.
This story really has it all, from sexy, dirty to funny, heartwarming and heartbreaking moments. These characters pull you into their hearts and you can’t help but root for them every step of the way. I was definitely surprised a few times but NEVER disappointed.

I absolutely loved Brie and Max together! While they've known and have been attracted to each other for years, the timing was never right, so they never got to see where their chemistry took them. That is, until Brie's fiancee walks out on her right before their wedding and she finds herself single again, with certain needs to attend to.

After Brie has a disastrous forray into online dating, Max is not one to let the opportunity pass him by and suggests that he should be the one to scratch her itch. Cue the sexy times, witty banter & playful texts. But it was so much more than that, and I loved every second of it. ❤

Brie was home early from her job as a first tier accountant at the best accounting firm in town. She went to work for Letham and Steele three years ago. They were in the middle of a huge merger. But she was still an entry level and had a terrible boss and wished she had stayed with the firm who had hired her right out of college. Brie’s two best friends were Catelyn/Cate and Chelsea. Brie had been engaged to Grant but than three weeks before their wedding he had come home late and started packing his clothes saying he had met someone else and they were done, he was moving out. That was six months ago. Cate told her she needed to get laid. In truth Brie liked the idea of no-strings attached fun, but the thought of picking up total strangers puts her off. Max and Blake were training for the Monumental Marathon and they are best friends. Max shared a house with Leah who is gay. Max had lived with his girlfriend Audrey for about six months, he had been at a bachelor party in Vegas. He came home early to surprise her and found Audrey giving oral sex to her boss. Leah’s roommate had just moved out so max took her place. Max was saving to open his own bar and he was almost there so he had to live lean for awhile. Since he and Audrey broke up he couldn’t find anyone that interested him except for no strings sex. At some point he wanted more than just random women in his life. Chelsea and cate talk Brie into trying Tinder. She was messaging with three guys than one was just weird, and another sent her a penis shot and the left Ladd. Brie suggested they meet at the bar that Max worked out as he had told her if she had a problem they would help her all she had to do was go to the bar and ask for an angel shot. Ladd agreed to meet her. When Brie came back from going to the ladies' room Max was throwing out her drink and told Ladd to get out of the bar now. Max told Brie Ladd had put something in her drink and he seen it. Max had wanted to ask brie out but the time had never been right either he was with someone or she was. Brie doesn’t feel like going right home so Max takes her for coffee than they run into Grant her ex and Max tells her to follow him and they act like they are together. Grant was there with his pregnant girlfriend who apparently got pregnant when they would have been on their honeymoon. After leaving the bookstore Max takes her to the Waffle House for coffee and there they decide to be friends with benefits as Brie was ready for anything else but missed having sex and she knew Max. She was attracted to him had been for a long time but the time had never been right until now. Max takes her to her home and kisses her and their chemistry is hot.
I loved this book. I loved it’s pace and plot. I loved that Max tried to be patient with brie. I also loved that even though Brie hurt him by not turning to him, he stepped up to help her all that he could, to get her out of trouble that she was innocent of. I loved max and Brie together and how they interacted. I didn’t want to put this down. The sex scenes were hot. I was rooting for Max all the way through this book. He was just such a sweet kind man. I loved the characters and the ins and outs of this book and I highly recommend it.

― “If you’re with me, I plan to make every guy you’ve ever known look like a total asshole. I’m going to sweep you off your feet, Cheese. I plan to ruin you for all other men.”
Overall Opinion:
Three weeks shy of her wedding, Brie is left heartbroken after her fiance ends the engagement and leaves her for a ‘tan goddess’ he had met one month prior. After six months of picking up the broken pieces and her crushed self-esteem, she ultimately decides to try the whole friends with benefits with Max, the local bartender whom she always had a flirty past with.

Their timing was never right so when Max discovers that they are both finally single at the same time, he leaps in heart first ready to win her over even despite her swearing off all relationships and not looking for anything more than a casual fling. Agreeing to her rules of not asking for more, it starts as an arrangement but when Max realized his feelings for her are lot more than he anticipated, he’s doing everything in his power to win her over. But would Brie see this more than an arrangement? Will she finally allow her heart to open up to him? Only time will tell.

Overall, it was a enjoyable read and the lead characters were phenomenal. Nana and Simon, the secondary characters, added additional humor to the story (fingers cross Simon will have his own series too). With the leads strong connection and great chemistry, you can’t help but root for their happily ever after. It was a quick fun read and the twist at the end was unexpected! I would definitely recommend this to anyone looking a book filled with great banter, hot scenes, and seconds chances.

Imagine finding the one who completes you but the timing is never right. Years have passed and when you never think you’ll get your chance it all comes together. Absolutely loved cheese ball and Max!

The Dating Alternative
is a New Adult/Romance book about Brie and Max who both agree to being friends with benefits. It seems like the perfect option, only Max has always had a thing for Brie, and Brie is trying hard not to fall for Max.

The Dating Alternative is definitely one of my favourite New Adult/Romance reads. The story is so fast paced and so easy to read. These days I love reading NA and Romance because those books are so relaxing to read and you can finish these books in 1 or 2 days.

The Dating Alternative was such a good book because it’s not just about love but also about discovering yourself after heartbreak, trying to find the right job, and family and friends are important to the main characters. I loved that The Dating Alternative is not just about the romance but also other important things in life.

I really loved Brie and Max because they’re so perfect for each other. Max is so funny and flirty, and just one of my favourite book boyfriends. Brie is also a strong character because she’s been through a lot with her ex, and she still tries to accept Max.

I highly recommend The Dating Alternative if you’re looking for a good New Adult/Romance book and I cannot wait to read Jennifer Woodhull’s other books!

Max and Cheese! Oh, how I adored them!!!

The Dating Alternative set the bar pretty high for the books I’m going to read in 2019 because I absolutely loved it! Max is one of the sweetest, swooniest, sexy book boyfriends, and I love how sure he is of his feelings for Brie. They have both been into the other for a few years now, but neither were single at the same time. Finally, they both are, but Brie is still nursing a broken heart over her broken engagement. When she says she’s looking for an alternative to dating, Max offers a once-a-week fling, no strings attached. He’s willing to take the little bits that she gives him in their arrangement because he’s THAT sure that she is The One.

The flirty banter between them is fun and witty, and the excuses that they both come up with to make their Sundays last longer than 24 hours were quite clever! It’s not long before Brie is also head over heels with Max, but The Conflict happens that prevents her from telling him so. And what a twist that was! I did not see the event that ripped them apart coming!

Of course, Max and Cheese work things out for a wonderful HEA that is every bit unorthodox and unique as they are!

I received an advanced copy and voluntarily left a review.

“What is the dating alternative? 5 stars”

Brie has been burned by what she thought was love and is quickly finding out it wasn’t. She decides she’s not ready to date but she’s ready for companionship. When she runs into an old friend, she can’t help but having old feelings crop up. Will Max be able to convince Brie she’s ready for more?

Max has always had a thing for Brie since the day he met her. When she was single, he wasn’t and when he was, she wasn’t so it was like they were passing ships. Now though, they are both single. Only Brie isn’t 100% ready for a true relationship, will Max be able to give her time to figure out that he’s the one she wants?

I got into the push and pull between these two. I also found that I really got into the little twists with these two. Even though they had known each other for years before getting together they still surprised each other with things the other didn’t know. If you one-click The Dating Alternative you’ll find yourself pulled into a good story.
