என்னுடைய நாவல்களுக்கோ, சிறுகதைத் தொகுப்புகளுக்கோ முன்னுரை எழுதுவது எனக்குப் பழக்கமில்லாதது. எழுத விருப்பமில்லை என்பதைவிட எழுத எனக்குத் தெரியாது என்று சொல்வது பொருத்தமாக இருக்கும். கதை எழுதும் போது தயக்கமில்லாமல், சில சமயம் கட்டுக்கடங்காமல் வெளிப்படும் வார்த்தைகள் முன்னுரை எழுத உட்காரும்போது எங்கோ பின்னிக் கொண்டு வெளிவர மறுக்கும்.

கதை எழுதுபவர் தன்னிலை விளக்கம் கொடுக்கத் தேவையில்லை என்று நினைப்பவள் நான். உங்கள் கதை மூலம் நீங்கள் என்ன சொல்ல விரும்புகிறீர்கள் என்று யாராவது கேட்டால் எனக்கு, எனது எழுத்துக்கு நேர்ந்த அவமானமாக, துர்பாக்கியமாக நான் நினைப்பேன். எழுத்தே பேச வேண்டும். இல்லாவிட்டால் அதற்கு ஜீவனில்லை என்றுதான் கொள்ள வேண்டு

About the author

Vaasanthi (born as Pankajam on 26 July 1941) is an Indian journalist and writer.

She got her degree in English literature and history at Mysore University and a Master's degree at Oslo University in Norway. She served as the editor of India Today, Tamil edition for nine years. Many of her essays on art, culture, and politics have been seriously focused on the emergence of a number of articles and created debates.

Vaasanthi has written a number of lectures and reports on women's issues and she is also a political analyst. Penguin Books published a book in English (Cut-outs, Caste and Cines Stars) with their standings in the political history of Tamil Nadu during the time she worked as the editor of India Today.

She also wrote the biography of J. Jayalalithaa and M. Karunanidhi. She has written around 40 novels and six short story collections.

ஒருவரை இழக்கும்போது வரும் கண்ணீரை விட அவரை இழக்க கூடாது என்று நினைக்கும்போது வரும் கண்ணீருக்கு வலி அதிகம். அந்த தவிப்பின் வேதனை எதிரிக்கும் வரக்கூடாது. நினைவுகள் மனதில் இருக்கும் வரைதான் அவர்களின் உறவும் இருக்கும். நினைவுகள் தேயும்பொழுது உறவுகளும் தேய்ந்து அழிந்துபோகிறது. இதுதான் இந்த புத்தகம் என்னுள் எழுப்பிய எண்ண அலைகள்.

முதல் கதை என்னை அதன் உலகத்துக்கு எடுத்து சென்று விட்டது. அனேக காதல் கதைகளை படித்து விட்டேன். ஆனாலும் இந்த கதை மனதில் தைக்கிறது. சென்ற்இடங்களுக்கு எழுத்தால் கூட்டி செல்லும் திறன் வாசந்திக்கு உள்ளது. நிச்சயம் படிக்க வேண்டிய புத்தகம்
