Eastern Nights

Rate this book
Felicia Perez, a carefree, hopeless flirt from Miami, is working a second job as a fitting model in Bangkok while saving up to expand her own clothing line. She loves women and her freedom and never shies away from going after what she wants.

Kate Simmons is a passionate interior designer who is married to her job. Her love for beauty is universal; she can’t imagine tying herself down to anything that might limit her enjoyment of it, and that includes the shackles of a relationship.

When they meet in a hotel bar in Bangkok, they are instantly drawn to each other, but with both being used to having the upper hand, the situation is confusing to say the least. When two hunters cross paths, will one end up being the prey?

Together, they embark on a journey of self-discovery in the beautiful surroundings of exotic and mystical Thailand. Is the irresistible attraction between them merely the excitement of finally meeting their match or is the universe trying to steer them in the right direction?

Eastern Nights is part of the Compass Series but can also be read as a standalone.

Another excellent book in this excellent series. While Hannah and Kristine were sweet and easy-going, Kate and Felicia are both players. Both are happy with their life, neither wants or expects a relationship and both are taken by surprise when they realize their chemistry goes far beyond the sexual realm .

Born to an American father and a Jamaican mother, Kate is a successful interior designer in New Orleans. We’ve met her in book 2, Southern Roots, as she’s Kristine’s best friend, and Hannah’s boss. At the beginning of Eastern Nights, she’s in Bangkok, working on a new hotel. With women, she’s a hunter, used to being in charge. Then she meets Felicia, a fitting model working on her own clothing line. The attraction is undeniable, despite their tendency to both want to be the dominant one. Their one night stand turns into way more and their relationship becomes stronger and stronger, almost despite them.

Two small details, if I may: smoking is not sexy and while silk, on the other hand, is sexy, it might not be the best material to tie someone down for the first time as it tends to tighten unexpectedly.

Kristine and Hannah are one of my favorite couples ever, so my expectations were really high for this, and I wasn’t disappointed. Once again the narration by Addison Barnes is really good and enhances the characters in just the right way. And Lise Gold has this way of describing places, the sounds, the impressions, that makes you feel like you’re there. Her books really make me want to visit the places she sets them in, whether it’s Norway, Louisiana or, in this one, Thailand.

Incredible!! What a good read wow, Lise Gold has outdone herself this time! It feels like I was on a trip in Thailand with the two MCs, there was no angst there, just an incredible and exotic trip!
I think this is the best out of the 3 books in this amazing series! The chemistry between the 2 MCs is insane! It’s been a while since I’ve seen such hot, sexy scenes that weren’t just about unbelievable sex (which was a main plus for this book).
Highly recommended !

Perfect!

Kate had never been drawn to a woman the way she was drawn to Felicia. Settling down with one woman isn't on their radar but they can't seem to stay away from each other. Sex was as far as they'd go. Or not! Lise Gold once again outdid herself in this unputdownable, addictive and heartwarming story. She impressed me again. This book is just perfection: the cover, the storyline, the characters, the chemistry, the vivid scenery and so much more. I highly recommend this amazing series.

So this was fun. A light read for trying times. Strong prose featuring fun, dominant femmes who are both players and used to getting what they want, when they want it.....only they finally meet their match and have to learn what to do with those pesky things called "emotions." No angst in this one, no obligatory drama at 80%, just....an overall feel good story.

Really there isn't much to say except holy hot sex, great build up of a relationship as it navigates countries and work demands, and let's all go to Thailand and eat curry for breakfast. 4/5.

Another great job by the author! I loved this book. The series keeps getting better and better. I really couldn’t put this book down. The chemistry between the main characters was incredible. Let’s not forget about the sex scenes....hot! Way to hit this one out of the park!!!

"Eastern Nights" is the third book of the Compass series and it was a very nice read. For some reason I didn't like it as much as the first and second book but I'm not exactly sure why. It was still an enjoyable story.

Kate and Felicia were interesting characters and had great chemistry.
The setting in Thailand was really cool. Like I've written in other reviews, Lise Gold's ability to describe settings is fantastic. It makes you feel as if you were right there with the characters.

I'm looking forward to reading the next books in this series.

“If she’s your favorite hello and your hardest goodbye, then she’s probably worth fighting for.”

3.5 stars. This was so so enjoyable. Lise Gold's romances are just always so freaking swoony and simple and lovely, and I always leave them feeling satisfied.

This follows Kate and Felicia, both staunch players and commitment-phobes, who meet in Bangkok while they're working, and what was supposed to be a one-night stand turns into a lot more. This is something I noticed about the other books I've read by this author; while there is of course internal conflict and some things that the characters need to work through, some obstacles that they need to overcome, it's a very smooth ride from start to finish. There's no huge drama, no big conflict, no obligatory black moment for the couple at 90%. When things come up, they talk about it! I can enjoy drama and hijinks but it was just so refreshing to have two people working towards a relationship, however slowly or reluctantly, but without the overblown drama. There were so many moments that made and smile and gasp and just really pull for them as a couple.

I really liked the setting, and how the story took us all over Thailand. It was so often so beautiful, and I appreciated that not all of the perspectives were outsider ones. It felt like a love letter to the country, and what better way to experience that than through a really sweet, extremely sexy romance? I really liked the main characters; especially Felicia. What an absolutely dreamboat. I appreciated that a lot of the story took us through more mundane parts of their lives and jobs too, and gave us great perspective into them as people.

A couple things knocked off a star. There were a few kathoey characters, and the book was 100% positive/accepting about them, but some of the language used seemed a bit questionable? As well as some of the questions Felicia asked. I'm not Thai or trans so idk if this is me reading too much into it, but the portrayal seemed borderline offensive. There was also an extremely ??? moment where Kate, who is black, is pretty much accosted by a waitress who wants to touch her hair, and pretty much just sinks her hands into it without permission and goes to town. And Kate just... submits to this? And laughs awkwardly and says it's okay? Which it definitely isn't??? Meanwhile my soul left my fucking body aha. There were also a few minor but annoying moments where the book could have used the word 'bisexual' but... didn't? My feelings about this book remain largely positive, but those were just a few things that detracted from the experience.

I'm still looking forward to continuing on with the series. The romantic vibes are just so good.

Another excellent read in the series! The 3rd book tells us a story of two beautiful, dominant players in Kate and Felicia who met while on a business trip in Thailand. They met, dined and had a steamy one night which both can’t shake off and continued to seek each other out again knowing that that’s not a norm for them. A feel good story which was beautifully written with some vivid description of Thailand, angst-free and a HEA for everyone! And not forgetting some really steamy scenes ☺️

I am so happy with the whole Compass series. I love getting to know more about Kate and having her find her perfect match in Felicia. They are tremendous flirts and play the field, but together they set the night on fire. The way Lise Gold describes all the places and food in her stories is amazing. I feel like I step right into the book. I am already starting on the next one. I love this as an audiobook because I can feel all thee passion they have for each other.

I adore this series and I was ecstatic to find out I would get not only more snippets from Hannah and Kristine but that Kristine's best friend, Kate was going to be the focus in this book... Heaven! I loved Kate as a secondary character. Her straight-talking, her wit plus the kindness and love she has for her best friend in Southern Roots was endearing and she was a fun character to read. In this book as the sole focus she was a hoot, add in sexy Felicia and it was a fantastic ride.
I loved Kate and really felt for her in her moments of insecurity. The reader can sense how scared she is to show her vulnerability to Felica. The attraction between Felicia and Kate is so well written you can almost feel the chemistry fall from the page.

Felicia was a fun character to pair Kate up with. I loved how alike they were in so many ways but also how different. Felicia seemed to be more up front with her feelings than Kate but it was still after a few miscommunications.

Well, these two certainly set the sheets on fire and left me a little hot under the collar. There was an element added to these scenes that ticks a box for me and I am telling you, Lise Gold made it work... Wowser! Holy hotness Batman!
They also had some intimate scenes where the sole focus was vulnerability and emotion. These were the scenes that cemented my faith in Kate and Felicia as a couple. #swoon

Another fun book from the compass series and one that I can't wait to read again soon... Maybe I'll take it to Thailand with me!

This was one of those where it's definitely a 'me' issue thing - because Lise Gold is an amazing writer and storyteller. The descriptions of the work Kate does in designing the hotel along with it's construction and also Felicia's own job as a fitting model and clothing designer were so detailed and alive. As well as the amazing culture and vibe of Thailand itself. However my own interest in those things just wasn't as enthusiastic, and that's completely on me!

I mostly struggled with the power dynamic in the relationship. The fact that they only seem to have in common that each other is HOT and are players who have scores of one nights stands and love getting new notches in their bedposts - and keep playing games with their ego's just didn't endear them to me.

I just didn't really feel a connection or any real personality from either character other than their own bravado, so it became a slog to read and like. This is where I'm just an odd duck. Those overly confident swaggery types that play games irritate me even in fiction. Even when they meet their match, I can't help but think would someone like that really do well long-term? Even with someone who is equally aggressive? Sounds exhausting to me. lol. I can't help but wonder what happens when you stop being combative in that kind of relationship, and things settle. And if it's all just a recipe for disaster - and those thoughts just persisted enough for me to put it down. Again, a ME issue!

It's disappointing because I adored Book 1 and 2 in the series, Hannah and Kristine's connection and vulnerabilities was amazing.

I find myself looking at the blurb for book 4 and also not being interested because it's an age gap. So I think I will definitely skip that, and just move right onto book 5 and the marriage of Kristine and Hannah! Looking forward to that! And also highly recommend Books 1 and 2, and many other of Lise Gold's work!

There was a lot of repetition in this story. I grew tired of reading that Felicia and Kate were not the dating/relationship kind and then that is exactly what they end up doing. I liked book one and two of the series but could have done without this one.

Southern Love in the East
Interior Designer Kate has a huge contract for a hotel in Bangkok. It requires her to travel to the destination regularly. While on a visit, she meets clothing designer Felicia who is working as a model to earn startup money. Both women are used to being the hunter in the name of the one night stand game but things don’t always go according to plan and times are about to seriously change for them both! This is the third book in the Compass series by Ms Gold. All of them can be read as a standalone but all of them are SO worth reading!!!! Do yourself a favour and don’t put off reading them all!

I ADORED this book! Truly, completely, totally head over heels in love with it!! I think it might actually be my favourite in the series so far and that’s saying a LOT because I couldn’t get enough of the others!!! The story is solid and well written (but IT IS Ms Gold, so no shock there) but the descriptions really make this dramatic offering. The details are amazing. The settings are exotic and Ms Gold immerses you into them. She lets you see the colours, the clothes, the buildings and people, smell the foods the flowers, the perfumes of the world around them and hear the sounds of the city, the sea, the birds and monkeys… The romance is total Awww material. The women are so much alike and that makes them so insecure and unsure when facing the possibility of spending more than a night together and gasp, dare I say, date??? They are sweeter than all the tea in Thailand AND New Orleans combined! Tender and wonderful and ever so special, there isn’t anything not to love about them. The incredible and intense sex they share is just an added bonus. If all that isn’t enough to sway you, this book also has Kristine and Hannah from Northern Lights and Southern Roots because they ARE Kate’s best friends after all! This amazing book is exactly that and is NOT TO BE MISSED! Now, go read while I go pester Ms Gold to hurry with book 4!

This is book 3 of the compass series.
I enjoyed the first two books but was disappointed in this 3rd book. It was basically the same scenario as the first book. 2 woman, in an exotic land, are immediately attracted to each other and would like to spend more time with each other. But their careers get in the way. Each too busy for a real relationship.
Plus they are "players" and used to one night stands with no strings.
The characters are fun and attractive. Kate, an interior designer. She is a friend of Cristine and Hanna from the first 2 books. Felicia is a size model for sports wear. They meet in Bangkok, Thailand on jobs. They agree to meet whenever they are both in town.
As the relationship grows we get treated to a travel log of sorts as they tour the sights. Its all very colorfully described and very interesting. Ms. Gold only hints at the decadent side of the area.
Ms. Gold must have wonderful vacations doing research for these books. She takes you to very interesting locations. Book 1 was especially unusual in a boutique hotel in Norway for the Northern lights.
Im not sure I will go on to book 4. At least not right away. I think I need a break from the sameness.
Again, I chose the audiobook and I found the narrator, Addison Barnes's voice just a bit light and juvenile for the sexy characters, Kate and Felicia but better than the voices of Cristine and Hanna.
But she does accents really well.
Southern, Norwegian, German, and Asian.
Give the series a try. They are definitely well written and you definitely want the romance to work.

I enjoyed reading Eastern Nights. I liked how the majority of the book took place in Thailand. It was an interesting look at the life of women traveling for business. Both Felicia and Kate were working in Bangkok when they in a chance encounter at the bar which led to what was supposed to be a one-night stand. Their intense passion kept their affair from ending it at one night. This book has some of the steamiest sex scenes that I have ever read. My mom was visiting my house for her vacation and happened to pick up and read one of the sex scenes she was good and scandalized. I don’t think she will pick up my kindle without asking ever again.

Getting away from the sex. The setting of the book brought Thailand to life to me. It made it seem like such an interesting place filled with such a diverse culture. One of my favorite parts is when Felicia takes Kate to the Buddhist temple. Lise’s description of the temple was beautiful and brought the scene to life. I also enjoyed her depictions of some of the locals which brought out how Thailand is a very spiritual/magical place.

Definitely my favourite in the series

I enjoyed this more than the other two to be honest. The description was so damn vivid that for a hot second I thought I was there. And that in my book (pun intended) is skill. Loved to see the change in both characters and I loved the fact that they are both WoC.
I hope there's another book in the series, especially one about Nung and Sonic. They sound interesting.
Definitely recommend this book.

This third installment was even better that the previous two. Lise Gold can never disappoint me but "Eastern Nights" was so hot and there was so much freaking chemistry between Kate and Felicia that my heart was racing for the better part of the book. Highly recommended!

Another fantastic read

This series just gets better and better with each book. Another page Turner from Ms Gold. The two main characters of Kate and Felicia were great, the chemistry between them both was way of the charts. I enjoyed the story line, the author made it feel like you were on vacation in Thailand. It was great to catch up with Kristine and Hannah from the previous books as well as adding new characters to an already great bunch of supporting characters. All in all, this was an excellent read and I look forward to reading more from this author as she is relatively new to me.

Great Story!

I love Kate from the previous books and with the addition of Felicia the characters took on a very personal challenge “Love”. Dealing with ones independence and fear of letting someone in was written so well. I loved the cat and mouse way to try and keep their “relationship” from actually becoming one. However, with two very hot, sexy and in lust people, I thought the sex scenes were lacking. Hannah and Kristine had more sexual chemistry in the bedroom than these two did. I still loved the story but could do without the heavy geography lesson which I think tempered down the story. Still a good job. On to the next book in this series.

What a wonderful story!

All of the characters were very likeable. Felicia met Kate at a bar in the hotel they were both staying at. Both were womanizers and the aggressors in their one night stands. Neither had ever let a women stay the night. Neither could see themselves committed to one person, settling down or having children. Felicity job was one that took her around the world working with clothing designers. She was also getting ready to launch her clothing design business. Home was Miami. Kate was a designer of the interior of homes, new construction bars, restaurant's etc. Kate's business and home were in New Orleans. Both women felt an instant connection. Their first night was spent together! So was the next. Kate flew back home. A few weeks later she returned to Bangkok for business, Kate & Felicity found each other again, spent their nights together and Kate was gone again. How would the distance between them ever work? They weren't even relationship material. I really enjoyed getting to know the people that loved the these two women. The details of Bangkok were wonderful.
I didn't put it down until I finished. It was as good as the other 2 books in this series! I can't wait for the next!!

No Matter Where You Travel Magical Light Can Bring Your Heart Home!

Kate and Felicia have played the one night stand life for so long they almost miss something beautiful. They meet up in Thailand working to live their dreams. Till now that dream does not include a relationship. Their attraction is so hot and they open up to each other in a way they have not to anyone else. I love the romance they experience. The inner doubts both have could stop love but strong women find ways to overcome. It also helps to have Hanna and Kristine support in many ways. I love this series so much. The author takes you to the exotic places with descriptions so you feel like you are right there in Thailand with them. A beautiful love story that spans continents and is a joyous read. It is just a beautiful romance without angst but with great peronal dialogue for the characters. Strong characters who are willing to let love change their future. Ready to read the next one in this compass series!!

Excellent

My first thought after finishing this book is, I really need to plan a trip to Thailand. I came here for the romance, and Lise Gold did not disappoint, but I also absolutely loved the setting. I have heard how immersive her books can be before, and felt it for myself during Eastern Nights.

Now onto the romance. It was perfect. I loved the idea of two “players” having excellent chemistry and being unable to ignore it. I appreciated that there was some conflict over changing their ways to be together, but it never felt over the top. I never felt like shaking one of them to come to their senses. Kate and Felicia felt real and worked through their insecurities in a way that was believable and so very enjoyable to witness. Highly recommend this one and can’t wait to start book 4.

Every book in this series has been great and this one is no exception. The subtitle of this book could be "Battle of the Tops" as both MCs are used to picking up the ladies then lovin' and leavin' them. Of course when they encounter each other their chemistry is off the charts and they find the leaving part harder and harder after each encounter. Very low angst as it is never really in doubt they will end up together in the end and they don't jerk each other around at all.

Cool setting in Bangkok, Thailand. The way it was described made me want to visit.

Even though this is part of a series you could easily read this as a standalone, but why would you? Like I said, the whole series is 100% worth your time and I recommend it all lesfic romance readers.

Lise Gold's books don't disappoint because of the detail of the locations she's writing about. Her characters are world travelers, and the descriptions allow me to see a part of the world I've not seen. The dialogue is crisp and the scenes about the design (clothing & interiors) world gave me a view into a world I'm not familiar. Two hard working women with no time for relationship building or development find they've met their match and have to decide what they want in life since their personal careers are the center of their worlds. Good writing, story telling, and the locations were breathtaking.

Travel Through Thailand

I have my top five list of favorite authors and Lise Gold is definitely on that list. She has another winning story with Easter Nights.

The book was a sexy, sultry, and sweet trip through Thailand with stops in Louisiana and Miami with Felicia and Kate. Both of the main characters are creative forces who move easily from woman to woman in a series of one night stands until they meet other in a hotel bar. That night changes everything for them. The book demonstrates that no matter how set in your ways there is always opportunity for personal growth.

We met Kate in Southern Roots as she's Kristine's best friend and also friends with Hannah, Kristine's girlfriend. Kate is a player and never found a woman shed want to meet twice. Felicia is also a player and doesn't even like to spend the night. Then Kate is picked up by Felicia, which throughes her off, as she's usually the one picking up women. Unbelievably, Felicia spends the night, and leaves her number and email address.
Will Kate get in touch with her? Both women can't stop thinking of the other. This is a wonderful story of 2 strong, independent women finding love. Book 3 of The Compass Series. 5 stars!!

This is a lovely easy to read book with no angst, no dramatics at the 80% of the book. But don't mistake that for boring, it takes you on a lovely journey with interesting characters.

What I really love about this book that both characters are players. The romantic who inspires the player to change sometimes makes me uneasy because often the players past is negatively connotated. This is not the case here.

What is also really lovely is the vivid description of the scenery, this is the case with all of the books I've read so far and is really a treat.

A change of direction, as well as in characters

Kristine's best friend Kate is one of the main characters as the compass went from North and South to the East in the third book. This terrific follow-up unites two chronically single "players" that met while they both were in Thailand during some work related trips.

There are still frequent occurrences where British terms are used in the dialog between Americans, and when an American is using a first person point of view with themself.

Sweet and hot, two of my favorite flavors

Lise Gold is quickly becoming one of my favorite writers. The Compass series is a loosely linked but engaging set of stories about friends, lovers and some adorable cats and canines thrown in for good measure. The passion is hot and the emotions run deep. Get yourself a tall cool drink and relax into this volume. It was the next best thing to going on a real exotic vacation.
