A brand new series from the author of the Kitty McKenzie series and The Slum Angel.
The Great War is over, and Millie is ready to leave her loving family home and be a wife to Jeremy who is everything she had hoped for.
Until…
Not long after their wedding, Millie discovers Jeremy is affected by shell shock and moving into his late father’s cold dark estate escalates the problem. Millie tries to help, but Jeremy grows more distant and befriends a homeless, wounded ex-soldier, Monty, who has secrets...
As Millie’s distrust of Monty grows, a rift is created between her and Jeremy and when he leaves to receive hospital treatment, she is left feeling abandoned. When her family is dealt a terrible loss, it is Millie who must be the strongest. However, just when she feels things couldn’t become worse, she suffers her own heartbreaking tragedy.
Grieving and alone, Millie wonders if her marriage can ever be mended, but she can’t give up without a fight.
Will a new home for her and Jeremy in a foreign country be the answer, or will the events of the past destroy everything she wished for?
Australian born AnneMarie Brear writes historical novels and modern romances and sometimes the odd short story, too. Her passions, apart from writing, are travelling, reading, researching historical eras and looking for inspiration for her next book. https://www.facebook.com/annemariebrear http://www.annemaribrear.com
i am new to this authors writing ... i see 3 books in this "The Marsh Sagas", so i hope to check those others out soon. historical fiction. in Kindle Unlimited. not my normal time history that i did pick up ...but i enjoy jumping out of my normal genre for something different and new. gorgeous cover. i will read more from AnneMarie soon enough.
I enjoy the books by this author but they also make you realise how upper classes were so arrogant and quite patronising to the working class. I find the ladies' attitudes to be quite obnoxious at times. But I do enjoy these books. My comments are just an observation of how I think the upper class were at that time and probably still are!!
A lovely story about rebuilding lives following the great war
I love reading about the post war days of the great war. The historical content was researched well and is accurate. The story clearly addressed society during a difficult time rebuilding a broken country and indeed France. A loss of a male generation because of the lives lost during the war and the hardships that aristocracy faced in rebuilding their work force and indeed empires. Millie was a superbly human character and one which can easily be identified with the era. Im looking forward to reading about the next Marsh saga 😁😁
I guess for people not knowing much about this time period this might have been a good read. It is difficult for me to resolve the immature responses by another young lady regarding the injuries of the "undead". This book is actually a clean read dealing with post WWI and the soldiers who came back with what we know now as PTSD. The other name in the book is correct. Not much was said in this book about nerve gas, which was one of the biggest reasons there was such a shortage of men in the UK. I am not doing a spoiler. It was just hard to determine if this was a silly novel vs romance, post war historical in light of things written.
Another brilliant read from AnneMarie Brear, this book I could just not put down. I will not go into the story as it will spoil it, you must discover this book and its characters by reading it. I am now onto the next one which is a Novella called Christmas at the Chateau. You can always rely on a good read from AnneMarie Brear. I am looking forward to the next one in the Marsh saga series which is Prue, which is published in January 2020 and after that the third one which is Cece. It is so nice to read about these three sisters. Millie is a recommended book by me.
I really enjoyed reading this lovely story. I wasn't impressed when I realised it was set in the 1920's but quickly became engrossed. I'm just about to read the next one. The stories are very well written and I really enjoyed each part everyone played. A joy to read. Thank you.
I loved this book!!!!! I’ve given it a 5 star rating. I’m now reading Prue, but Missing Millie very much! I was so enjoying her story and found it so interesting their challenging shift to France. It was hard to finish the book with what was happening in the story, so trust there is more to come in Prue.
The further you got in to the book the more you felt you were living in those days. The twist at the end of this first book will lead to a better more understandable Jeremy
Fantastic story and great writing! Undoubtedly the best post WW I Book I’ve ever read! Can’t wait to read Prue and Cece. Thank you so much for writing such a great book.
I enjoyed the story, and the progression of Millie’s marriage with the problems she faced. It was easy to root for her as she tried to overcome the challenges, never losing her love for her husband.
But it needs better proofreading to correct the minor issues like missing words, incomplete sentences and use of commas.
I finished this book so gave it two stars instead of the one I give to book which I can’t finish. This tale just did not seem real to me and I was constantly irritated by the author describing the characters as ‘grinning’ when ‘smiling’ or some other description might have fitted better. There were a few misprints too, showing it had not been proofread properly. I will not be reading any more of the books in this series. The characters just did not seem real to me. What happened to the German soldier who just popped up then disappeared?Weird!
