This was a nice romance, although very predictable.
It was like watching a hallmark movie with a little sprinkle of 🌶️
Even if it was a good work I found this story lacking of something. I am an avid romance reader, so I'm well accustomed to predictable stories and happy endings (it's what I crave) but the way you deliver it is what counts. So, I guess the spark missing had something to do with the characterization and/or the dialogues. They missed vivaciousness.

❁ rancher/ ex rodeo star & teacher
❁ he dreams to go back on the road with the rodeo
❁ she dreams of a life in NYC
❁ they find home to be nearer then they expected to be

I've had good luck with single dad falling in love with their nanny books before, so I was looking forward to this one. Unfortunately, it just didn't really work for me.

Honestly, I hated Callie. For a woman with no children of her own, she sure is opinionated about the "right" way to raise them. I don't know how Finn could stand her. She was so judgemental about everything he did. It really got on my nerves. I mean, how dare this woman decide when Finn should feel comfortable letting his daughter do certain things. If she were my nanny, I would have fired her ass.

Also, the whole extra rodeo plot didn't work for me. And Finn's dad?

description

Yeah, the rodeo clown thing was bizarre. It was really hard to take any of that seriously, especially when Finn gets freaked out by the clown they see at the rodeo - which that biotch Callie makes him let Wendy go see even though he's terrified of it.

description

By the end, though, I disliked Finn about as much as Callie. Honestly, who sends their 5 year old alone with a nanny to an entirely new state for weeks? And if that rodeo guy Sam hadn't quit after his accident, would Finn have stayed at the rodeo or not? Meh. I would have preferred more conviction that he chose Callie, you know? Really wasn't as romantic as it could have been.

Oh boy. These two drove me absolutely bananas. From the outside, it seemed so easy to see all the ways Finn and Callie were sabotaging their own happiness, but I suppose it’s never as simple when you’re in the thick of the situation. I loved the realizations they were able to come to in the end, but it hurt my heart to see what they had to go through in order to get there.

A widowed dad, adorable kiddo, single teacher/nanny should equal a great read, but this fell short. Callie was funny and smart and Finn’s little girl, Wendy, was a cute, lively child. However, Finn came across stilted and abrupt. Even then I held out hope he would get better, but that died when he came up with his ridiculous idea for Wendy so he could join the rodeo.

Uneven Love Story
I love cowboy romances. Don’t know why. Don’t care to analyze it. So I’m always happy to see when one comes along to read and review. That being said this book had the makings for a good storyline with all the right characters: Callie, kindergarten teacher/Nanny; Wendy, five year old daughter to Finn; Widower/Rancher/former Rodeo Star. Unfortunately it just missed the mark with Finn. I found his dialogue just weird. Every other character? No problem. Enjoyed and loved Wendy. But when Finn appeared on the pages it was like an actor who came on stage and stumbled thru his lines. Sigh.
There is an HEA that is sweet so there’s that.

Sometimes the Unexpected is just what you need!!

The Rancher's Unexpected Nanny is the first book that I have read by Mary Sue Jackson so I was not sure what to expect. But given I really like books by Leslie North and the book description looked interesting I figured I would give it a shot. I was pleasantly surprised at the quality of this story and the editing of the book. But then again I maybe should not be as the same can be said for Leslie North's books also.

The Rancher's Unexpected Nanny is a wonderfully touching and poignant story with lots of heart, love, loss, unresolved feelings, family, community, dreams and a whole lot more all woven together into a coherent and engaging book.

The rancher is Finn Henry. A former rodeo bucking horse rider who unexpectedly had to leave the circuit after his wife got pregnant and her father had an incapacitating injury. So they came home to the family ranch in the foothills of Texas and took over the ranch. A few years later Finn's wife died and he was left with lovely, beautiful, smart and intelligent little girl named Wendy. It seems that Finn is much better at connecting with the livestock than he is Wendy and he is not quite to sure what to do with her but he stumbles along trying to due his best but really having no clue. This story takes place when Wendy is 5 years old and finishing up kindergarten.

The nanny is Callie who is actually Wendy's teacher. She has been living her life sort of in a bubble. First she was born with a birth defect which meant she was isolated at home for the first half of her life until she grew out of it. This meant that Callie was more single focused on achieving in her life as opposed to living her life. She has already achieved becoming a teacher, even if it is in her home town. But one big goal that is about to be realized at the beginning of the next school year is she is moving to NYC and is going to teach at a prestigious private school.

Callie and Finn meet at a parent-teacher meeting to discuss what is the best for Wendy regarding school. It seems that little Wendy has a whole lot of brain matter that is not being properly stimulated and Callie is recommending she attend a different school the following year. Poor Finn is just barely hanging on as it is and adding one more thing on, like a 1 hour commute each way at 2 trips a day, is just too much for him to even fathom. Callie is willing to do anything she can to help Wendy and Finn mistakes that to mean that she is willing to become Wendy's Nanny for the summer. Callie ends up going along with the plan after an issue with her apartment and not wanting to move home.

Over the summer Callie becomes much more attached to Wendy and in turn also Finn. Finn starts wanting to be around and involved a bit more with Wendy and Callie, as Callie keeps asking him to do "jobs" where he is around the house and can interact with Wendy. You can feel they are all becoming a tight little family unit. As a result Finn and Callie have a slow burn with eventually combusts and turns into a sexual relationship also. But as with all things plans and commitments are already set on both Callie and Finn's sides, plus they are trying to downplay their feelings for each other.

I really enjoyed reading The Rancher's Unexpected Nanny and look forward to reading more of books by Mary Sue Jackson/Leslie North.

This was an okay read. I thought Finn was more then a little selfish. Callie put a lot of effort into ensuring Finn's daughter Wendy was happy, well taken care of, and that his house ran smoothly.

It was interesting to me that everyone thought Finn was so wonderful, helpful, and dependable, and he really was that way. Yet, he couldn't or wouldn't give his daughter the attention she seemed to desperately desire. She seemed to be looking for both quantity and quality time.

I know Finn was better with Callie around because his relationship with Wendy improved. The relationship he had with Callow also began to develop. There was chemistry between the two, and some mild heat, but no intensity in terms of passion.

I didn't like Callie's mother. She seemed really
whiney and unpleasant. There was not enough detail regarding Callie's childhood situation to determine things about her mother's behavior, or Callie's intense desire to go to New York. Why New York? Why not some other part of the country?

I really liked Finn's mother in law, Stacy and his daughter Wendy. I liked Wendy and Callie's relationship. I liked that Callie was able to figure out what she wanted and needed. I think Wendy was the best part of the book.

I have to admit I was pretty surprised at Finn's behavior and conversation with Sam after the rodeo issue. I was not expecting that.

Ultimately they all ended up with their HEA. I wish there had been an epilogue. I think it would have taken this from 3 stars to 3.5 or 4.

Callie is a young school teacher who takes special interest in her young students. Young Wendy is showing signs of real boredom in school and Callie pitches the idea of a private school to Wendy’s father, Finn. He is a widower who gave up his dream of being a rodeo star in order to fulfil family responsibilities. He is not keen to send his daughter to a private school in another town, though he is proud his daughter is so smart. Callie mentions the idea of a nanny for Callie over the summer and somehow she becomes the nanny. She has accepted a dream position at a school in New York, but she can take the summer to help Finn and Wendy. Over the summer, Callie is able to bring father and daughter closer together, prepare her young charge for the more challenging private school, and fall hopelessly in love with the sometimes gruff, but always hot and sexy Finn. He has grown to depend on Callie, and has become much happier with her in his and young Wendy’s lives. Their attraction is magnetic, their chemistry combustible but both know that they only have the summer together. Callie is not sure she wants to go to New York anymore, and hopes she can have a future with Finn and Wendy. When he is given the chance to return to the rodeo circuit, Finn jumps at it, leaving Callie’s hope for the future in ruins. Instead of asking her to stay, he is the one leaving, and he even asks her to care for young Wendy until he gets settled on the rodeo circuit. Will these two ever have a future together? Read this sweet and sexy romance to discover what the future holds for this couple.

Finn is a single dad that's raising his daughter Wendy the best he can. He also wants to go back and give his biggest dream a try, and that dream was to work in the Rodeo. When Wendy's teacher tells him that she should be moved to a better private school, one that's an hour away, he doesn't want to listen. When the said teacher becomes the nanny, he can't keep her out of his mind.

Callie is living her best life of sorts, she just got her dream job in New York and will be moving there soon enough but before she could move, she needed to deal with the fact that her landlord got her out before it was time. She refused to go back to her parents home so she decided to go on with the offer to Finn of being Wendy's nanny for a while. She was not counting on falling in love with the single dad and the little girl.

I loved the character development in this book, especially on Finn's side of things. Totally hated how he did what he did, but at the same time... nop. Hated him for it until he made it right in the best way possible. I'm not getting into details because of spoilers.

The story was well written and told in a cute way involving Wendy almost every time. Having the child being part of the development of the adult couple was very endearing to me. I would hope some other authors could do it as seemingly as this two did.

I would recommend this book to those that love cowboy romances mixed with millionaires. I also would recommend it because the message was beautiful. Simple but beautiful.

The Rancher's Unexpected Nanny by Mary Sue Jackson is a sweet romance without many surprises. It is an easy read and enjoyable, although not challenging. The characters are pleasant enough, although not compelling and the plot is not complex with little in the way of subplots. After a teacher's conference in which he is told his daughter, Wendy, is exceptionally bright and needs more challenging work, Finn finds himself hiring that same teacher as a nanny. It will work out well with more time for him to train for his return to the rodeo and time for Wendy to prepare for the private school she will attend in the fall.

The Rancher's Unexpected Nanny is a fun read with few surprises along the way. As most romances, it is pretty predictable. Not in a bad way. It is a character-driven novel and the characters are good, if not very deep. Finn is a young widower with plans for his life that didn't necessarily include the ranch he has been working for his in-laws. Callie is a good teacher with big plans for herself. She wants to get out of rural Texas and give the big city a try. She has a job for the fall in New York and she can't wait. She is an interesting conundrum-really the quintessential teacher. Finn's mother-in-law is an entertaining character who loves Wendy and Finn both, and wants what's best of them. You have to love her.

This book is worth a read if the reader is looking for a positive, easy read. I recommend it. I received a free ARC of The Rancher's Unexpected Nanny. All opinions expressed herein are my own.

Finn Henry is a former rodeo star, a rancher, and a widower raising his daughter, Wendy. Finn left the rodeo when life came knocking on his door with a pregnant wife, his father-in-law injured in an accident, and someone needing to take the helm at the family ranch. Callie Winter has landed her dream job of working for a prestigious private school on the east coast but finds that she has lost her heart to one of her kindergarten students, Wendy Henry. Callie tells Finn that Wendy is bored and suggests sending her to a private school an hour away. Callie also suggests Finn get a nanny to help him out. Finn misunderstands and offers Callie the job of nanny for the summer. Callie accepts the nanny position when her landlord rents out her apartment out from underneath her. Will Callie and Finn give into their attraction to each other knowing that Callie is leaving at the end of the summer? Is Finn ready to open his heart to a new love? What will happen when Callie must leave for her new job earlier than expected? Will Finn realize that the rodeo doesn't mean as much to him as Wendy and Callie? Will Callie realize her dream job isn't really her dream after all? I enjoyed The Rancher's Unexpected Nanny by Mary Sue Jackson and Leslie North. Loved Finn's mother-in-law, Sally, and how she did her best to push Callie and Finn together. The Rancher's Unexpected Nanny will make you laugh out loud one minute and scream in frustration the next minute. Can't wait to read more from these two authors. Callie is a teacher that is very dedicated to her students. She calls one students father in to talk about Wendy going to a school that will be better suited for her because she is more advanced than the other students. However talking to Finn about it causes a stir because he is a single father struggling to do it on his own. So when she suggests that they try a summer program to see how Wendy does Finn misunderstands and thinks that Callie is offering to work as his nanny and help out with Wendy. When she realizes he misunderstood and that because of it that it helps her in a way she agrees to help him. What neither counted on was the attraction between them to be so intense. Its not long before they give in. But when Callie has to leave for her job in New York earlier than expected Finn asks if she'll tale Wendy with her because he got on the rodeo circuit. Will Finn see that Callie and him are the perfect fit? Can they make it work?

This is a great story once I started it I couldn't put it down. The chemistry between them is blazing hot. This is a well written and very entertaining story. I would recommend this book to any book lover.

I received this as an advanced reading copy.

The set up to get Callie living with Wendy and Finn felt forced and awkward. It was a sign of things to come. The characters do not sound right. Their language seems off. I can't put my finger on what it is but something is wrong with it. 25% way through the book I couldn't connect to any of the characters. They all seem emotionally bland.

I really don't care for Finn. It seems like he loves his daughter but she is an after thought. She is in his way for having the life he wants. Everything is in his way, even if he is good at it, a natural at ranching. He seems to completely fail to see the pitfalls of a smart child that is bored. As long as the child isn't getting into 'trouble' then who cares?

Also, 25% of the way into the book and almost nothing happens other than Callie making the nanny suggestion, losing her apartment, and then moving into Finn's. That is really not much happening in a 1/4 of a book.

I'm I'm trying to push through but the truth is that I find it almost impossible to care about any of the characters in this book other than the 5 year old. And this book isn't about her, it is supposed to be a romance about adult characters. I don't know if I can finish this book.

An excellent second chance at love romance! Finn Henry gave up his rodeo career when his father-in-law was injured. When his wife died three years later, he thought he had lost all of his dreams. He did not know how to relate to his young daughter and he threw himself into ranch work to contain his grief.

Callie Winter is a dedicated teacher and has bonded over the past year with Wendy, Finn's daughter. She has accepted her dream job in the East, and as her last task in the west, she wants to help Wendy and Finn bond. Finn misunderstood the suggestion Callie made and thinks she is going to be his nanny for the summer. Although she should be finding a new place to live out East, she ends up living on the ranch with Finn and Wendy. Callie comes to love Wendy even more and to love Finn as she comes to know the man under the mask. Finn loves his daughter but does not know how to express it to Wendy. As Callie guides him back to being a loving father, he finds that he is becoming attached to a woman who is leaving at the end of the summer. Mary Sue Jackson has crafted an excellent and unexpected resolution for Callie and Finn.

Callie has dreamed of seeing more of the world and of being a teacher all her life. She finally has her foot on that path when a couple of blocks get thrown in her path. A misunderstanding with a parent has her being offered the job of nanny for the summer and another has her landlord throwing her out early with nowhere to live for the summer. So, to make the best of a bad situation, she takes the nanny job instead of spending the summer preparing for her new teaching job in New York.
Finn put his rodeo dreams on a shelf for his pregnant wife, but now that his daughter is older, he's determined to get back to it. He jumps on the idea of a nanny as the perfect solution when her teacher suggests it and offers her the job, although he later realizes she didn't mean herself. Things seem to go just fine for a while, but when the trial run is put into practice, things take an unexpected turn.
Wonderful story of unexpected love! I laughed and cried, oohed and aahed and just absolutely loved it!

Here we have a story that is quite a good one acutally. There is something amiss though and even though I can´t really point a direct finger at what I can´t give more than three stars to this story. While reading it I felt it quite drawn out. Like when talking about the leading ladies childhood as happened on occasion and her illnesses - that was that and no further explanations - it seemed strange and somehow felt irrelevant as there was no real connection to today - how did she overcome this all? how did she get better? any explanations? And there we have the leading man, actually I thought not just once, what a douche he is, but then, they are certainly a dime a dozen in the real world.... But somehow not all the story connected with me and some parts felt more drawn out than neccessary. It is, however, quite well written and there were no noticable typos or any of that sort so that was really well done and probably therefore that I am giving this one three stars.

Finn was a rodeo star who gave it all up to return home to care for his wife and ranch. He is now a widower with a young daughter. He is dedicated to the ranch work and often tends to leave Wendy with his in-laws while he works. He still has dreams of returning to the rodeo. Callie is a kindergarten at a private school, a dream job. She becomes fond of Wendy, a student and daughter of Caleb. She has a meeting with Caleb to recommend that he consider sending Wendy to another school that would challenge her academically. She agrees to be Wendy's nanny during the summer to get her ready for the new school. She and Caleb are physically attracted to each other. Can Callie reunite father and daughter? Will she and Caleb develop a meaningful relationship? I enjoyed the book and would recommend it to everyone.

Callie is a teacher of a brilliant little girl named Wendy. Wendy isn't being challenged enough in school and Callie has a chat with Wendy's father, Finn about moving her to a more advanced program. She tells him that the little girl needs more and would benefit from a nanny that could help Finn out. Miscommunication has Callie taking the summer job as nanny before she moves to New York. Finn's working the ranch and trying to get back to his dream of becoming a rodeo star and Callie is helping so much with Wendy. As Callie and Finn become closer they become each other's 'family'. What will happen when it's time for Callie to leave? Will she ever get to tell Finn how much he really means to her? This is fantastic story about how as we get older our dreams can change and what we really need is right in front of us, sometimes we're just too blind to see it.

The Rancher's Unexpected Nanny is an enjoyable story with a good plot and interesting characters for the most part. I have become very fond of Mary Sue Jackson’s work and her stories usually revolve around complex characters and intense circumstances which eventually come to a HEA conclusion.

So while this story had most of those features, I found Finn’s portrayal to be average at best and annoying on occasion too. I realise he was the epitome of the over-worked, dream denied, single dad, trying to juggle all the aspects of his life while providing for his little girl. What I found distracting was his mundane and often vague dialogue, and his overall oblivion to his personal surroundings.

For me personally, Callie and Wendy stole the show and without their wonderful depictions, this book would have been a miserable fail. I’ll continue to read Ms Jackson’s work, as it’s usually thoroughly entertaining, I simply found Finn a boring and indifferent character.

Callie's leaving Texas at summer's end, for her dream job in New York. But she's about to be homeless - her landlord rented out her apartment. She agrees to be Wendy's nanny for the summer, working for Finn. He's had a tough time since his wife died, and he's not sure how to handle a precocious little girl. As Callie and Finn get to know each other, the walls begin to soften, but not fall just yet. The three of them fall into a nice routine, and Callie and Finn begin a sort of relationship. They both hold back, though, knowing that she's leaving in a couple of months. As they both take off to chase their dreams, they begin to realize exactly who and what is important to them both. And it's happy ending time. I really liked this book - just couldn't put it down.

Such a sweet and heartwarming story!
A teacher-turned-nanny with a goal, a rancher/single father with a dream of his own, and a little girl in need of consistency and attention.... yes, this just about equals a perfect story.

The story kind of takes a life of its own. You can not help but get roped up in it and fall in love with the characters.
I would have liked to see a little something extra in the end, though. It felt it was missing a bit more to the story for the ending. And there seemed to be a few small details that needed to be cleared up, but other than that it was a really nice story worth reading.

Can he finally let go of an old dream?

Finn Henry is a widower with a precocious young daughter, Wendy. He gave up his todeo career to take over his in laws ranch and raise Wendy. But he wants back at rodeoing.

Callie Winters is his daughter’s kindergarten teacher. When she calls him in for yet another awkward parent teacher conference, it’s to suggest that Wendy goes to a private school since she’s bored at school.

With her place being rented out for the summer and a job waiting for her in the big city, Callie accepts Finn’s offer to be the au pair.

Callie is a great teacher, who enjoys her students greatly. But the next adventure has just begun. Callie teaches Finn's daughter, Wendy, and Wendy is a very bright little girl. Callie wants what is best for Wendy and part of that is getting Wendy ready for a private school. To do that she becomes a nanny for Wendy. During her time at the Henry household Callie and Finn can only keep things professional for so long before they both fall off that wagon. Then they both have their dreams come true, but not together, only to realise that the only dream they need is being together.
This book certainly made me smile. I am glad I had the privileged to read it.

The Rancher's Unexpected Nanny by Mary Sue Jackson. This is Finn and Callie's story. Finn's wife passed away and he hs been raising his daughter Wendy. Callie is her teacher who has told Finn he has a very smart child who should be at another school for the gifted. When Callie suggest he get a nanny, he takes her up on the offer. From that moment on the attraction started to ignite. Finn didn't want to continue ranching he wanted to pursue his dream of going back to the rodeo. This book is heartfelt, true to life and shows the decisions you have to make and the choice between what you want or what you need. This was a good read and I love the ending. I'll have to read this book again.

4.5 stars Finn, widower and father of five year old Wendy, has too much on his plate to devote enough time to her. Her teacher Callie calls him in for a conference to explain that Wendy is smart and bored with school and tell him about a school that will challenge. Callie has an opportunity to teach in New York at the end of summer. Finn wants to go back on the rodeo circuit. Callie manages to get herself roped in to being Wendy’s nanny for the summer. The more time they spend together the more complicated is their relationship. Is she going to teach in New York and is he going to ride broncos? Nicely written and a nice enjoyable read.

Finn Henry is a widower workaholic rancher who is raising a young daughter, Wendy, on his own.
Cassie is Wendy’s kindergarten teacher who notices that Wendy is developed above grade and should be moved to higher level. She suggests to Finn, during a parent-teacher interview but Finn is not sure how to deal with this.
Cassie volunteers to be her Nanny for the summer and get her ready for this new adventure.
What she didn’t know that her life will turn to new adventure, too
Their relationship started a little shaky as Finn seems very overbearing and controlling, and she is there only for summer.
Are they both wrong?

This is dramatic, amusing and interesting. Finn is a single dad rancher. Wendy is his daughter. Callie is Wendy's teacher. When Callie suggests that Finn get a nanny, he hires her. She never gets a chance to say no, so she just goes home, to find that she wouldn't have a home for long. She takes the nanny job so that she doesn't have to live with her parents. His daughter, and his dead wife's mother conspire to get them together. They do fall in love, but Callie's dream, teaching in New York, and Finn's dream of rejoining the rodeo, make a relationship hard. I'm not a fan of what they did next, Callie should have said no, but in the end everything works out like it should.
I received a complimentary copy of this book from the author. This is my honest and voluntary opinion of it.
