New York City is known for many things: its urban, high-rise landscape, the bustling atmosphere, and busy business and tourist spots. Pretty tree-lined avenues, cute shops, and serene getaways do not immediately come to mind for this cosmopolitan city, but they are there. Acclaimed Instagrammer Siobhan Ferguson, author of prettycitylondon, now turns her discerning eye to the Big Apple itself. Travel along with her as she uncovers the hidden gems—the sweet, secluded alleys, the fantastic markets, the artisan boutiques—that New York has to offer, and reveals the beautiful, the quaint, and the downright pretty scattered among the urban landscape of the world's most famous city. Stunning photographs alongside fantastic tips to take your own pictures and create a prettycitynewyork experience for yourself make this the perfect book for visitors on foot and armchair travelers alike.
As promised by the title, we’re about to explore New York, but! Forget museums, forget monuments and a Lady Liberty tour. Siobhan takes us on an aesthetic trip, featuring storefronts, boutiques, hidden but glamorous corners. It’s a feast for the eyes, paired with interesting info and practical tips. I’ll admit my main reason to ask for PCNY on Edelweiss had to do with pictures, but the written part won me over while reading.
Borrowed from a friend to help plan our NYC itinerary. This is mainly a book of pictures of NYC buildings, and I was able to fly through it (like 30min total) to gather tidbits here and there. I appreciate the beginners guide to pretty things in the city, but that’s all it was.
I received this book as an ARC from The History Press in exchange for an honest review. Opinions and thoughts expressed in this review are completely my own.
The photography and layout of this book was so breathtakingly well done that every page you read and turned felt like you were being transported into New York and seeing all the wonderful shops, restaurants, apartments and landmarks that New York City has to offer. My favorite photo has to be the opening shot of Debi Mazur and Gabrielle's restaurant Extra Virgin and all of the people outside on the patio with big smiling faces around them. If you have not been to New York before, reading this book will make you want to go and visit all of the places Siobhan Ferguson examines and beautifully displays. Also, I love how she gives some insight on how to create the perfect portfolio using Instagram. Those tips will definitely be of use in some way shape or form.
We will consider adding this title to our Non-Fiction collection at our library. That is why we give this book 5 stars.
