A young widow recovering from a broken heart. Her husband’s best friend that finally returns. The forbidden attraction that binds them together.
Eulalia Pemberlay is still grieving the death of her husband almost a year after the disasters in Silverpines. Other widows have seemed to move on, why can’t she? She does what many others have done and sends for a mail order groom. What she doesn’t count on is Nicander Montgomery returning to town and stirring up feelings she thought were buried with her husband.
Firefighter Nic Montgomery made a promise to his best friend to watch over Eulalia in the event of his death. While dealing with complications in his own life, he returns to Silverpines to fulfil his promise. He never anticipates the attraction burning through him for the young widow. Love should be the furthest thing on his mind
Will Eulalia give into her feelings and realize that healing is right in front of her? Will Nic be able to keep his promise to his best friend without involving his heart? Will the promise that binds them together tear them apart?
Can Nic and Eulalia fight against a force more powerful than anything else...forbidden love?

This was a very thoughtfully written book that presented the feelings and emotions the characters felt as a result of losing their beloved. Well written plot and characters which drew me into their thoughts.
This is the first book in the Silverpines Series that I have read. Not having read any of the other books didn't take away from this one but I think it would have helped to have read others in the series. Checking back to see what this series is about I found out- An earthquake shook Silverpines , Oregon causing a silver mine cave-in and lumber camp mud slide that killed most of the young men in the town. Many of the women have posted ads for husbands to replace their lost loved ones. Eulalia Pemberlay lost her husband Josiah in the mud slide and one year later is still grieving his loss. She posted an ad for a husband but when he arrived they mutually agreed not to marry. Many years before his death her husband had made her promise to marry his friend Nicander Montgomery if anything should happen to him. Her children Winston and Tabby have been telling their neighbors that they are getting a new father- Nicander. The only problem is that Nicander got married six years ago so the situation seems hopeless. The feelings Nic and Eulalia are starting to feel for one another cannot lead to anything and the children have a hard time understanding why Uncle Nic doesn't come to visit anymore. When circumstances change can these two have a chance at second love.

When one door closes, sometimes you have to unstuck the new door to get it open. Eulalia is still grieving her husband, Josiah's death. The widows place ads for mail order grooms. Eula is worried because other widows have been able to more forward. Is something holding place? Nic returns with the promise in his mind to his best friend to care for Eula if anything ever happens to him. Eula's kids consider Nic their real dad. Mallet was Eulalia's mail order groom, whom she told their relationship wouldn't work. The kids rejected him too. Josiah had extracted a promise that if he died, Eulalia would marry Nicander. Unfortunately, unbeknownst to Eula, he told the kids also. Eustacia, Eulalia's twin considered Josiaha a dictatorial bully. He was neither. Nic married to Guinevere for 6 years, he calls their relationship, 'complicated'. Eustacia comes off as possessively overly protective. Maybe she needs a life of her own. Nic seems to be burdened by life controlling him. Eula had to deal with some seriously unpleasant villagers. Will Eula find a solution to her and Nic? Will Nic stand/step up? Can Eustacia find peace? Nice story I received an ARC from Booksprout for a review.
Eulalia promised her husband years ago that if he died, she'd marry his friend. Now she's not sure what to do. It seems Nic made a similar promise to her husband. He's been coming to check on them but he's got secrets of his own that make it impossible to carry out his promise. This was just terrible. Nic is married, yet he's kissing Eulalia?!? He's totally attracted to her and having trouble not kissing her again. Even though he's allegedly super religious. It was basically a Jane Eyre story and I hated it. Ended up not even being able to finish it. Besides him cheating on his wife (kisses and emotionally), Eulalia's sister was annoying and mean. She claimed to hate her brother in law but actually had tried to convince him to marry her instead...yikes... and they're twins. Plus, the author named them Eulalia and Eustacia so it was really confusing which one was being talked about. I think there was even a couple times where the author wrote the wrong name....cus it didn't make sense until you switched names. The only recommendation I have for this book is to skip it. It's not really a clean romance cus he's desiring some other woman.
A great read with characters that keep you pulled into the story. The author tells a story of commitment and honoring vows no matter what. Parker Cole also writes about forgiveness and how we are all only humane and seek forgiveness of something we are ashamed of that weighs our souls down. Healing comes in forgiveness and that is found in this story. You will find yourself engrossed in this book, and enjoying the story as it unfolds. Was given a complimentary copy. All opinions are my own
I was disappointed in this one. For about one third of the book (35% on my Kindle) the story got mired down in explaining the complicated relationships between the principals. I came close to putting it down, something I never did to any of the other Silverpines books. All the other books I've read by this author have been excellent and it was like somebody else wrote this one. I found it plodding and boring. There was no real action until the conclusion.
Eulalia is a young widow with two children after the Silverpines disaster and unknown to her her late husband ask his firefighter friend Nic to look after his family. Nic is married but his wife has some mental issues and is in a asylum so he feels guilty that he is attracted to Eulalia. Does Nic and Eulalia have a future together?

Characters who need healing. An interesting book posted ads for husbands to replace their lost loved ones is a unique idea. Commitment and forgiveness are an underlining theme to this romance. There were parts that were so sad and others that were sweet and then there are the characters they were just wonderful. It kept me entertained until the end. I did receive a free copy of this book and voluntarily chose to review it.

It is ok to move on after losing a loved one! The love Eulalia felt for her husband was wonderful and it is not easy to move on. Everyone moves at their own pace and to find another love like she does is nice to see. I really enjoyed this book and everything in it. I do not want to spoil anymore than I have but it is a definite must read book!

I've read several books written by Parker Cole; she has done a great job at writing a good book; she is becoming one of my favorite authors. I can’t wait to read more of books her books.
The story line caught my attention at the very beginning and kept me interested throughout the entire book.
I loved the chemistry between the characters.

A town being reborn and rebuilt with the help of all the people who live there. Silverpines is getting a Fire Chief who will help make sure that the town is rebuilt with all the fire regulations that can be put into place will be. Love is in Silverpines with all who live and work there. Another great book in this series of books. This is my review and mine alone. Norma Gorrill
You know, I would not want to get pregnant in the area of Silverpines, Oregon. "Why," you ask? Because there are far too many sets of twins there!! There is Eulalia Pemberlay (female lead) and Eustacia Goodwin, Ethel and Edith (Howard) Worthington, Walt and Chet Worthington (husbands to the aforementioned ladies), Ivy and Rose Hunter, Sophie and Josie Hunter, Rosie and Oscar Elliot, then there are the Sheriff's twins, and probably one or two more sets I forgot.
Such a deep storyline that bridges the gap of hope and despair. Values overtake temptation with a love of God and Family. Twin sisters are as different as night and day, perseverance in the face of catastrophe binds them. Forgiveness heals hearts and love triumphs over betrayals, illness, and temptation. I love a story where values win over temptation.
The emotions of the story sweep you a long in the lives of its characters. Widowed and moving on is hard and they all must reconcile their feelings with their grief, and what is best for all including the children. Finding and acepting love, family and change is not easy. Life goes on and we must as well.

This is the 26th story in the Silverpines series. We finally find out what happened to Eulalia, the widow who sent for Mallet Thorne the Stonemason, in book 16. A new character is introduced, Nicander will become Fire Chief. The book had ups and downs but everything was believable and interesting.
Parker J. Cole has given us a story full of secrets. Uncovering all those secrets makes a good plot with interesting characters. Eulalia, Eustacia, Nicander, Josiah and Guinevere make a story woven together by love. Enjoyed reading the book and look forward to more.
Wanted: Fire Chief by Parker J. Cole. There is a lot of emotions in this story. The romance is sweet with a bit of passion but there's sadness and grief. A great story that I enjoyed.
This book was wonderful, sad, and sweet, the children were adorable, Nic and Eulalia had things against them to begin with, but they did their best they could for everyone. Thank you Parker J Cole.
Wonderful storyline. Love the fact you I introduced a motorcar! The conflict between twins because they fall in love with the same guy. We all need a second chance with love!
Love the SilverPines series! This book was no different. Lots of unexpected twists. Love the mental health aspect stuck in. I loved reading how this family survived the loss of their loved ones and found new light in a roundabout way
To protect his family Josiah asks his friend to marry his wife Eulalia when something would happen to him. But Nicander is already married. This story about family, friendship, love and guilt will keep you entertained till the end.
This couple had to go through a lot to get where they needed to be. Thank God modern medicine has advanced in technology. Hopefully her twin will find happiness in Silverpines. Please keep the stories coming.
Another great book in the Silverpines series. When I was reading this book, I thought no, I can not be reading about the fire fighter. As I read on, I thought whoa There is no way this can happen. Then boom I did not see that outcome at all. Thanks for another great book!
Eulalia is the widow when sent for the stonemason but could not love him since she loved another. Nicander is her deceased husband's friend but he has secrets. - Babs
