After a horrible break up with my ex-boyfriend, I meet a man with a goat's head.
Yep.
A goat's head.
He takes me to an academy where I'm told I'm the daughter of a Greek god. There isn't anything particularly god-like about me, except for wicked ukulele skills, so I'm taken by surprise.
But never mind my lack of powers. I'm more concerned about the four men who are assigned to me—my vassals.
Two of them are happy to serve me. I'm more than okay with licking them. The other two, though?
ARC received in exchange for an honest review - thank you!
I'm beginning to feat that Hartley's later books will never live up to the brilliance of the Sera's Curse series...
This book did have moments of humorous dialogue between the characters and I think the heroine will become endearing in later books, hence the 2 stars. But there was no chemistry with the heroes. Plus, of the 4 heroes, they seem to only have 2 personalities between them so they blurred into each other.
Ok book. Need work to be good. Wish there was a way to highlight areas needing fixed/edited/deleted so the author could see the errors.
This story would have an excellent plot if there was more detail. There are many grammatical and spelling errors throughout the book that hinders one from getting into the story.
The lack of creativity in the writing makes you lose focus. I can easily fall into a book even with little creativity but with so many errors, I was staring off into space trying to figure out the sentence, thinking of ways to fix/edit everything, or thinking of many different ways to add more detail into it.
When your MC is supposedly independent, adding in nothing but "useless" or "helpless" based scenes doesn't make them stronger to the reader. Saying she is an "independent woman" but acts like she is a complete flake is very confusing. For the plot, going into more detail would help.
A few things I would like to know:
The preface says she lost her job. In the book she says she left early to go to her exes apartment to decorate for his birthday and caught him cheating. There was no mention of losing her job. Plus, the book says he was a mooch and she paid for everything, including rent. So it was her apartment, he lived there, mooched of her... But she went to HIS apartment... It doesn't make sense. There are many contradictions in the book and facts being changed. Definitely need to go through the book and fix it to be consistent.
Lydia adopted her at 12 in one area. Another said 14. She was in foster care but adopting takes her out of foster care. So, which is it?
I don't like reviewing books because of the chance of spoilers. I would've rather sent this directly to the author so no one sees me questioning it. The editor should have done their job correctly. They are to show all grammatical and spelling errors, show inconsistency for the author to fix, and make sure that there is sufficient information to support the book properly. I have found so many books where the editor used words processing to fix things instead of going through and making sure it's done right. I've taken the classes required of an editor since transcription is close. There should be no reason a proper editor can't fix issues like in this book. Or many other books I've read.
This entire review has been hidden because of spoilers.
Starts with a bang and ends with one too. We Cara just as she finds her boyfriend cheating. She is floundering when poof a strange creature arrives essentially kidnapping her to a place called the Sanctuary where she is told if she graduates she will be a Goddess. If course this changes her life as well as coming with some sexy perks but instant enemies as well as mysteries could take it all away. Great world building that sucks you in with witty characters that will keep you turning those pages. I totally loved it so I give it 5/5 stars.
This had ups and downs. Some outright laugh out loud hilarious moments and then some sad and melancholy ones. It felt a bit short but has loads of potential. It is slow burn and only has a very small amount of heat which I’m sure will ignite in book 2. It did feel like it finished unresolved though. A little bit up in the air but still entertaining.
I love this book and Cara's inner monologues! Really looking forward for the next one. If you like books that make you laugh, with some hot moments and that doesn't let you go to sleep untill you read it all , this one is for you!
This book was hilarious! I cannot put it down and I could not stop laughing. Cara is so clumsy but strong-willed and she blurts everything that she thinks. I love that about Cara because she tries to have justice for everyone but yet she still a very funny character and not serious about everything. The guys were so different but they just fit somehow and seeing the contrast between how Devon and Liam acted against how Theo and Hansel reacted to Cara was an awesome part of the book. When Cara first discovered her power and she sent her power on to Devon that was hilarious. When Liam was like “Why does everyone fall for me?” I just couldn’t stop laughing. Clara Hartley makes amazing books and has a phenomenal imagination and it shows in all of the books that is written. This is not my first time reading a Clara Hartley book.I cannot wait to read the next one! Clara Hartley you rock! Going to read more books by you now.
I really wanted to like this book. The blurb and beginning of the book sounded great. You have a sassy FMC, Caramel (Cara), who was abducted to another realm where she and other girls like her are considered halfblood Goddesses in training. She had a troubled background and ultimately broke away from her foster mother. All she wanted was independence and do it her way. She had so much fire at the beginning. However, I quickly got bored with her when her character just fizzled out. She wasn't anything really and hardly grew throughout the book. There are men who serve these would be Goddesses (of course) and help them reach their potential etc. I just felt little connection or chemistry between the vassals and Cara. There was little to now character development and mediocre world building. It had great potential just lacked depth and any interesting build up between the characters. I may read the next one out of overall curiosity, but won't be waiting with baited breathe
Caramel is a nineteen-year-old girl that just had her heart broken by another guy. She couldn't catch a break from them. Still nursing her disappointment and sorrow, she's kidnapped and taken to the Sanctuary where half-blood girls are trained to become Goddesses. Cara doesn't want to be there and trouble follows her everywhere she goes, not only that but she finds out about who her mother really is, which brings a whole world of problems of their own.
This is the first book in the Goddess Academy series. A Young Adult Reverse Harem Romance that really gave me pause and made me think a little. I don't read Young Adult 99% of the time because I'm over 30 now and I can't empathize with such young characters like I used to but I still wanted to give this book a try.
With that out of the way, let me tell you this book, even though it made me rolled my eyes and mutter stuff under my breath, left me wanting to know what happens in the next installment. The mystery posed in this book as part of the plot got me curious and now I want to know who is the bad guy or girl and what's going on.
The characters were just like I was expecting them to be, considering this book has young adults everywhere. They are carving their own lives around what's going on in the moment and some (Liam and Devon) are looking ahead but with grey glasses on. They are being young adults and that's just fine. I'm the one that's too old apparently *sigh*
The Reverse Harem part comes from the Goddesses having a few servants are her disposal that have to cater to her needs and keep her safe. The fact that these guys around Caramel are hot and made her forget about her heartbreak incredibly fast, it's just another perk, right?
Like I mentioned above, I'm very curious to see what's next because the plot of the story lured me in and hooked me. The fact that the plot develops over the whole series of books it's a good point because it leads the reader slowly through the whole thing without jamming everything in one book.
I won't speak about grammar or structure because I'm no expert. What I can say about it is that the 2 minor mistakes I did find were not very noticeable but I was reading very very slowly so I picked them up. At my normal reading speed, I would have not even seen them.
One last little thing. I felt some instances during the reading of this book where I could and would compare it to Harry Potter and Percy Jackson. It was specific moments that are normal to occur but I just wanted to let you know I did felt some similarities at times.
This book can appeal to those readers that love Young Adult Romances with a sprinkle of magic and mystery.
I received an Advance Readers Copy of this book and I'm voluntarily leaving an honest review.
The book begins with Cara going through heartbreak caused by someone she should have been able to trust. While in her saddened state she is whisked away, by a creature that should only exist in nightmares, to attend an academy that trains her to become a goddess. Within her first few minutes at the academy she makes an unlikely ally, Danna, who quickly becomes her friend. She is then assigned four men to cater to her and teach/train her to become a goddess. However, not all of the men are happy with their assignment. It also becomes obvious that some of the leaders, professors and other students of the goddess academy are not on Cara’s side. When a student dies and the heads of the academy seem to want nothing to do with figuring out the reason behind the death, Cara, Danna, and Cara’s men take it upon themselves to solve the case. However, what they find is worse than they could imagine. Can they put a stop to the madness before it’s too late? Only time will tell.
Cara’s internal monologue had me laughing out loud. The boys have such different personalities and come from different backgrounds which makes each of them stand out on their own. I can’t wait until the next book comes out.
I received this book as an ARC for my honest review.
A promising new series with damsels, goddesses, hot guys and heavy secrets. I definitely liked the story, it was slow burn and fast paced in the same time. It is great that is it a slow burn with all the events, twists and turns, and also I think it makes things a lot more interesting and exciting on that part too. On the character side I am really curious where this is going, Cara is a bit contradictory for me, I mean she is all into cakes in the beginning, then hot guy pops up and cheating guy is just forgotten? Well I know sugar can make this happen, but still :) It is interesting however, how she starts to live up to her heritage. All the guys around her are really different from each other, which is great - and also that not all of them falls right on the spot for her :) A good start, I'm really curious how it continues.
The story line written by the author is excellent. I love the heroine and her sassy attitude! The story is fun to read and engaging. Quite a page turner here. Once I started it was hard to stop. This is the first bill on this series and the author sets us up well to have the plot continue into the next book and I will be waiting ever so patiently until the next book comes out in June. The book is quite a slow burn and can definitely be appreciated, as this time is taken to form character development and relationships. I enjoy this as a few of the men have to come to terms with this big change in their lives and come around to the heroine. It will be real love and no spell at that!
Such a good start to a new series! Goddesses’ Dawn is the first in the Goddess Academy. It’s a slow burn, academy themed, paranormal RH with a slight cliffhanger ending.
I find Cara absolutely funny! She has no filter and at times super clumsy. She has a tendency to blurt out things at awkward times especially when she gets super flustered by her hot AF vassals. She one of those typical ‘awesome things come in small fiery packages’!
Hansel, Theo, Liam & Devon are her vassals. They are there to serve and support her during her time at the academy. They will succeed where Cara does but will also have dire consequences should she fail also, so they need to work together to help her succeed. Having said that not everyone is happy being a vassal but there sure is a lot of tension.
We are yet to find out who the real antagonist is. There are however some real shifty people so time will tell which line everyone is on. At the moment it seems that there are a few people at the Academy determined to put Cara in her place even though she didn’t choose this path.
As I said Cara is funny and I think a lot of her antics have really made me enjoy the book overall. The story is unfolding and of what I’ve read so far I have enjoyed. There’s loads of intrigue and I’m keen to find out more about the deaths, the chiasma and how it all fits into the bigger picture.
This book was amazing! I received an ARC copy for an honest review and let me just say I could not put it down. This type of book was confusing but in the way that made me want to keep reading to get the answers and not in a way that made me want to walk away. I love Cara's personality and cannot wait to see what comes next. I want to get more of the vassels backstory as well and know what is actually going on with the goddesses. If you haven't had the chance to read this novel yet it is one you will want to add to your TBR list. Clara's writing style is also incredible and I felt like I was there with the characters.
Freakin loved this book. Idk what else to say. Cara is funny and bada** at the same time. She’ll trip over her own feet sure but it’s while she’s saving your a**. She’s taken into the goddess academy after a bad experience with a cheating boyfriend. Four men are assigned to each potential goddess. Her four are gorgeous. Too bad only two of them actually care about her. The attraction to all four confuses her especially with the two rude ones. But she needs them to help figure out how to pass goddess academy and to possibly save the girls that don’t pass. Not to mention if she doesn’t pass her guardians suffer.

I really liked this book, its a relatively slow burn reverse harem. With the main character being whisked away from her life to train under difficult circumstances to become a goddess. The men are duty bound to serve her, although 2 are very reluctant to do so.... so I’m excited to see how this dynamic will change in time. This story is well executed and interesting. For the most part I enjoyed it, however I struggled to connect with the main female character as she comes across as quite young and bratty... but I feel that in time the author has set her up for a lot of growth. Will definitely be reading the next one.
Cara a human girl is suddenly kidnapped by a goat head man and taken to another realm. While she thought having a breakup was a heartbreaking problem, seeing the death of her new room mate on the v first day makes problems a lil more serious.
She is apparently whisked into a goddess academy and finds that she is a half blood. She is four handsome hunks as vassals as every other goddess aspirant half blood is and evidently she is the daughter of Aphrodite and Ares who are the villains of this Greek mythical haven.
I really loved the writing, the humor was honestly my favorite thing about this book. Loved Cara's personality just wish she would be less gaga over the hunks.
This book was an easy read but still full of magic, mayhem, and mystery. I loved Cara and her inner dialogue that happens to become actual commentary - I thought that was cute. I also thought it lends humor to a story that would otherwise have a somber tone. What is going on at the academy is horrifying, but I am looking forward to Cara’s response and how the mystery will be solved. I also enjoyed that not all the Vassals were completely in love with her at first glance. I love a little tension in the Harem because I think it’s more realistic. I am looking forward to reading book 2!
An magical beginning to a new series. I loved this first story. Cara is a weird, klutzy, spaz with no filters; just like me and I love that about her. I love the fact that she isn’t perfect and struggling to be better and learn. I love the guys, Hansel and Theo I want for my very own. And Devon and Liam are sexy little turds who I can’t wait to see their relationship with Cara grow. This story was fun, different and sexy (but not actual sexy times). I can’t wait to read the next one. More please!!
The goddess academy, well I found it slightly on the slow side. But I don't mean this in a bad way. I think it's a relatively good start to a series and I can't wait to see how this progresses. I like the reverse harem aspect and hoping it really kicks off in "waking the Goddess book2 "
The guys are all likeable. I'm in two minds to how I feel with Caramel, usually I like the lead main character. I'm hoping she grows on my a bit in the next book
But I can say I'm now going to start book 2 and hope Caramel turns into a kick ass Goddess...
I enjoyed the story line of this book. The plot and world building were intriguing and catching enough that I wanted to continue to read the book. I wanted to know what was going to happen next!
However, I did get caught up on a few things. I feel like the book description was a bit deceiving. Perhaps I read too fast but I don’t remember there being any mention of a killer wardrobe on earth, Ivy League school, or a sexy boyfriend. I thought he was described as a bit pudgy..... a little extra around the waist. What happened to the freak accident?
I also felt like some of the characters identities were not so solid. I know I don’t act the same all the time, but I felt like a few got a bit lost or maybe the names were just confused in the scene.
I enjoyed that this book was a slow burn. I think adding that extra element might have been overwhelming with how much was going on. And boy...... a lot of changes and events right off the bat.
That all being said, I look forward to the next book and can’t wait to see where this journey takes everyone!
I really like the FMC, Cara, or Caramel. She's funny, blurts out stuff she shouldn't, is horribly clumsy and has no clue of how gorgeous people find her. This is a slow burn, like really slow. I'm hoping there will be more in the next book. The story itself is gripping and I have so many questions! I wish the book was longer and had dealt with the problems going on, but that's for the next books I guess!
Life was going well for Cara aka Caramel (the MFC) She had a boyfriend that she loved & was getting married to. That was until she came home & found him in bed with someone else. This starts off a chain of events that end up with her being forcibly enrolled in the Goddess Academy in Haven. Which in itself would be a mindtrip as well as finding out that your mother was a Goddess and the Goddesses rule here. Also that she has to take on her own vassals which are a group of hot men at her beck & call. Hansel, Theo, Liam & Devon are hers. As can guess with four men come lots of funny & sexy scenarios. Yes theres plenty of those in this book especially the one with fenrir (read it and see) which made me laugh out loud (lol). Cara is a great character as are the guys too. Eager to find out what happens next
I didn't want to put this book down! Cara as the lead female character was hilarious, and I love how she contradicted every goddess-like quality that they would have expected from a half-blood. The dynamic between her and her vassals was amazing. There is so much tension there, and it was great to see that not all of them were head over heels for her quite yet. I look forward to the next book to see how everything progresses with her relationships and with the phenomenal storyline!!
Being a goddess doesn't sound bad right? Guessing that depends entirely on who the author is and what twists and turns they can add to the world they create. Not everything is fun and sparkly in this academy despite the presence of the clear distraction of some very sexy servants or vassals. Any female MC that starts her story off eating cake though has my full support, notwithstanding the struggles she has to face. Looking forward to the next book in the series.
Funny and steamy! This is a great story. It has intriguing characters and an even more so intriguing plotline. There is a bit of mystery, lots of humor and plenty of promise of more steam. The world building is fantastic building an intricate world and showing only bit and pieces. I cannot wait to see where the story takes us. I received an advanced copy and am voluntarily leaving an unbiased, honest review.
This magical academy isn’t for witches but for young woman to become goddesses. But what does that really mean. This story only starts to explain things as we get to know Cara and the four young men that will help her (at least we hope they will help her). She will learn things about herself and some secrets that no one is supposed to know. The adventure is only beginning and things are only starting to heat up.
I received a copy of this book for a fair and honest review. This was a good start to a series. Cara seemed to have it all until it all came tumbling down around her. That is when she is kidnapped and taking off where she finds out her real legacy. She is going to be trained to be goddess and she has servants. She does not really want to be there, but she need to be trained. Now trouble seems to be following her everywhere. I am going to read the rest of the series.
