This is a lovely devotional for the busy believer. It's not about how long we spend with Jesus but the quality of that time. This is a great encourager to find time for JESUS and His messages and encouragement to you. Highly recommended for yourself or as a gift to others. If you find the concept of reading the bible or long books to feel closer to God but it's too much, this is your solution.

"In this very moment, God offers you the gift of His presence."

Thanks to Thomas Nelson and NetGalley for gifting me with a digital ARC of 5 MINUTES WITH JESUS, a devotional book written by Sheila Walsh.

This beautiful little daily devotional is the perfect way to start my busy day.
There is a diversity of topics such as hope, forgiveness, shame, peace, love, trust and faith.
Each devotion begins with a little personal anecdote or a Bible story followed by a thought provoking quote. The devotion ends with "Five Minutes in the Word" which consists of four or five verses of scripture that are meaningful to the topic.
This book is the perfect for gifting a friend or for yourself.

Let the morning bring me word of your unfailing love, for I have put my trust in you. Show me the way I should go, for to you I entrust my life. Psalm 143:8 NIV

5 Minutes with Jesus is a beautiful devotional that is a ”perfect” choice for starting your day.

Usually I’m not very much of a devotional user. Probably because I’m always inconsistent or that I just prefer to just read/study the Bible, using a plan, making my own notes; or it’s something about the devotional I don’t like.

I decided to review this devotional because, on first sight, the title didn’t strike me as a ‘devotional’. I thought it was a guide or a resource kind of book that talks about the why’s and how’s of spending time with our Lord.
5 Minutes with Jesus has 50 short daily readings. Actually short real life stories with 5 Bible verses. This 50 short readings can last you a month and a half. Sincerely, I wish they last up to a year.

Each story serve a purpose, and have a lesson and thoughts to take home for the day.

The Bible verses takes you beyond the stories into the Word – which is he best resource to turn to anytime. The verses are written out, so you don’t need to open your Bible unless you want to read a different translation. This makes it easy and excellent for travelling.

This book is an easy catch for people who love to read something they can relate to. The stories are very interesting; enough to keep you coming back for more.

I am a fan of Sheila Walsh. Her music is inspiring and soul lifting, and her books— I will recommend to anyone anytime.

I recommend 5 Minutes with Jesus to every Christian who desires to make every time spent with the Lord count.

I received this book from BookLookBloggers in exchange for my honest review.

I had bought this book for a "friend" who was "very busy" and often told me she "didn't have time to read the Bible or do devotions". I had looked through it and thought it would be perfect for her and her busy lifestyle.
When she decided to no longer be friends with me [after I quit working for her company when my Dad was sick and dying], she sent everything I had ever given her back to me, including this [WHO does that btw?] devotional. To be honest, I was so angry and hurt that I tossed it in a pile and didn't look at it for the longest time. But once my anger and hurt calmed down some [ANDI was looking for a little devotional to read before bed], I remembered I had this in a pile somewhere, so I dug around, pulled it out and started reading it at night.

While I am sorry that she and I are no longer friends and I am even more sorry that she never even cracked this book open, I am glad that I was able to read and use this book. It has been perfect for me as a nighttime devotional; I have enjoyed Ms. Walsh's simple devotionals [not simple in content; quite a few of them packed quite the punch and were very thought-provoking] and am thankful that the book found its way back to me instead of her just throwing it away.

I will be purchasing the next one of these; it has been the perfect before bed devotional for me and I am grateful.

I had heard lots of my friends talking about this book and out of curiosity I looked it up. The description was very interesting actually seemed to fit me perfectly.

Some days I feel there's not enough hours to get everything done.

This book fits so perfectly into my life.

I love starting my day with this devotional.

It's quick, easy to read and understand.

It starts with a powerful devotion or thought.

Each one is based on something easy to relate to.
Then she give you a quote to think about.

Lastly she gives to scripture that backs up the main thought of the devotional.

If you have 5 minutes this is perfect or if you have more time you can pick up your bible and dive more deeply into the scripture.

This book is only 192 pages long with 50 differently devotions. Each one is usually about 3 to 4 pages long. One of the things I like best about this book is the size. It's size is 6.75 X 5.75 X .75 (inches) which will easily fit into any purse. I take it with me if I'm going to the doctor's office or picking up my son after a school event to read while I wait.

I would recommend this to anyone.

5 MINUTES WITH JESUS is a short 50 devotional book by Sheila Walsh. It is comparable to My Daily Bread devotionals. Easy to read in one sitting.

It starts with a short story then has a collection of Bible verses, not necessarily from the same book of the Bible. It is good to keep in your desk at work, or beside your bed, or wherever you prefer to keep your devotionals, so you can spend your five minutes with Jesus.

There isn't a lot of meat in it, but it will give you a spiritual uplift. This is not meant for Bible study, but for a few short minutes with your savior.

I have seen Sheila Walsh speak in person and seen videos of her teachings, and her books are just as great! It doesn't have a plot really like the Bible, but it is a devotional book. There are multiple devotionals, as it is intended to help busy people with multiple uplifting words to choose and listen to in their busy lives. I personally am not that busy, but when I am, I am busy getting to know Jesus, and I do find the book very helpful.

While reading this I almost felt as though I was listening to a close friend speaking words of truth, encouragement, and comfort. A digital copy of this book was provided to me by Thomas Nelson via NetGalley for review, however I decided to purchase a physical copy after reading it because this is a book I can see reading many more times. Sheila Walsh is an amazing woman of God, beautiful both inside and out, and her writing is incredibly inspirational!

For me, this was a wonderful and timely book to read. I appreciated the short 'chapters,' meant to be read one per day.

I've got to look this up ... one moment ...
Okay, I found it! Yes, I own this book (Thank you brother and sister-in-law!). What I wanted to look up is this: the "5 Minutes" that I read on February 14, 2018.

A tiny bit of background - I have met Sheila in person a couple of times. I've gone to several of the Women of Faith events, and sort of grown up as an adult with the Women of Faith speakers. I am not yet 40 years old and single, like friend-zone or very single. I would very much like to be married someday.

So, the 5 Minutes 'chapter' I read on Valentines Day this year is titled "An Inescapable Love." It was just right for me that day and just what I needed to hear/read. Especially because I was feeling so 'done' with Valentines Day because "I guess I'll just buy myself chocolate ... tomorrow (for half price)" (sad face).

So if Sheila or any one from Sheila's team ever read this: Thank You! I am so thankful to God for how He has used Sheila Walsh in my life. Though she may not remember me, she is important to me and I'll always remember her. Thank you, Sheila, for pointing me toward God and His great, huge, awesome love for me. (Shy smile) ~ Katie

A few minutes well invested
Well-known speaker and best-selling author Sheila Walsh presents "5 Minutes with Jesus" published by Thomas Nelson GIFT. The 50 devotions all deal with a specific topi. Walsh shares a personal story of herself or others or retells a Bible story. Then she finishes with "Five Minutes in the Word": Bible verses that deal with this particular topic. The devotional is practical when readers have only a small amount of time but would like some biblical encouragement. For those readers I highly recommend the devotional. It is easy to read and presented in a great design. There is a diversity of topics treated which are deep and meaningful and relevant for today. I do not recommend the devotional for readers who are looking for an in-depth Bible interpretation or for those who are looking for a personal application because this is not included in the devotional. There is a table of contents that lists the treated topics but list of the used Bible references is missing.
The complimentary copy of this book was provided by the publisher through NetGalley free of charge. I was under no obligation to offer a positive review. Opinions expressed in this review are completely my own.

"We don't live in a culture conducive to rest.  Even in the church we can end up being overcommitted because we say yes too often.  After all, it's easier to say no to attending a neighborhood party than to signing up for a Bible study.  If something sounds spiritual, we too easily think we should line up behind everyone else and take a ticket.  But being busy for God and knowing God are two different things.  And often they don't fit together well." --Sheila Walsh, 5 Minutes With Jesus: Making Today Matter

I took this quote from the entry "Real Rest", because it best describes the theme(s) of this entire devotional.  Such a peaceful, encouraging, refreshing message!

In the entry "Who We Are In Christ", Walsh shares her struggles with depression and her month-long stay in a psych ward.  It is refreshing to hear such admissions from religious folk, especially in a religion where depression is often ignored or addressed as a purely spiritual issue.

This little devotional was a big encouragement to me.

I came across this book in my search for something by Sheila Walsh. 5 Minutes With Jesus is a devotional for busy women who want to have a little Spiritual "snack" every day and want this to include a few Bible verses or short passages.
The daily stories lead to a truth about God and our relationship with him. The Bible verses show the reader that this truth can be found in the Bible and they give her something to meditate on.
I can recommend this book to a person who is going through a difficult time and struggling to get into the Bible, or a person who doesn't really have the time. 5 minutes and a few verses is much better than nothing, and these 5 minutes might ignite a desire to read more and get to know God more intimately.

I received a free digital reviewer's copy from Thomas Nelson via Netgalley. Thank you!

A wonderful little book to have within reach.
I have found this to be perfect for me while waiting in the car for my kids after classes. To read during waits in the doctors office.
I can imagine having it laying around my house so I can easily pick it up at random times during my day.

The reading sections are so well thought out and well written. You feel like you've read a whole chapter of a book and done a bible study even though it's only a page or so with a handful of relevant scriptures.
Just the perfect amount to read quickly then ponder as I go about my day.

I've already picked up a few physical copies to have on hands for gifts this year.
I did receive a digital ARC from Netgalley in exchange for my honest review.

This is one of my least favorite devotionals. It's not really the writer's fault when it comes to talent. Sheila Walsh is very truthful and uses true life examples. It's the way the book I set up: about two short pages of devotion with two pages of Bible verses. For me, this isn't the ideal set up. I hate taking Bible verses out of context and I really like when devotionals focus on one or two and really help you understand it.
But if you are looking for having many different verses for each topic, then you would do well to get this book. It really does cover a variety of Old and New Testament passes for subjects like forgivness, shame, and hope.
I received an ARC from NetGalley; all opinion are my own.

"5 Minutes with Jesus" is a Christian devotional. The devotional starts out with a couple of verses and follows with a practical message. The devotional is helpful for a busy person. It is an easy way to draw into Christ's presence as you face the day. Sheila shared her personal experience in the devotional. Her experience can be related to the readers lives. I appreciate the publisher and netgalley for allowing me to read and review this book. The opinions are my own and not anyone else. I am posting my review on facebook, netgalley, Goodreads, my blog, Amazon and sharing it with the church staff.

I enjoyed this devotional. I loved the mixture of personal (relatable) stories and teachings paired with more than one scripture to back up the premise after each reading. So often devotionals have one line of scripture and paragraphs of the author's thoughts without much more than feelings to back it up. I appreciated that Sheila Walsh valued including more than one small passage. Overall a great, encouraging book - perfect for those who want to be prompted to seek more depth in their walk but also don't have tons of time (i.e. busy moms, etc.)

Thanks Netgalley for providing this book in exchange for my honest review.

Well written and helpful short devotionals for busy women. Insightful nuggets of wisdom from Sheila Walsh. I was privileged to meet her about 10 years ago when she spoke with Women of Faith. She’s also from the same area of Scotland as my mother was. You might say I felt an instant kinship with this woman.

Amazing devotional!

This devotional is easy to use. Sheila used life stories that engage you with the Scriptures given. My toes were stepped on, heart spoken too, and challenges were issued. I highly recommend this book and the rest of her devotionals in this series! Thanks Mrs.Walsh for your service to our Lord.

Each part of the passage is suitable for kids to hear, understand, and learn. I think reading this book provides inspirational messages that we as followers of Jesus must obtain. Sharing these messages with our kids and family will help us explain the importance of spending time with God's words daily.

Short, easy to read IMPACTFUL commentary, with several corresponding Bible verses.

Author Sheila Walsh is new to me, but I will definitely be reading more.

Such a good applicable devotional. Her example really hit home and were very useful. This book was like a warm cozy blanket with the perfect cup of cocoa on a cold winter’s night! Bliss!
