This is a very quick read and could be a good introduction for someone with absolutely no knowledge of the subject. However, I personally found that there was almost no information in this book that I hadn't previously read elsewhere.

My main issue with this book was the author's writing style. It felt at times like I was reading an undergraduate essay, not a work of published non-fiction, and I found myself getting bored despite having a real interest in the topics covered. This book definitely needed editing; points were mentioned briefly and not expanded on, and it felt very repetitive despite its short length.

For anyone interested in this topic, I'd recommend Dana Thomas' 'Fashionopolis' as a more engaging alternative.

2.5 stars. Super quick read. It's written like a high school or undergraduate paper, which isn't super surprising give the author is 22. A decent overview of a very important topic. There wasn't much analysis and there was clearly a lack of background knowledge on the subject... But still, a fine overview and would be a great paper for a college or high school class. I think his efforts may have been better served by diving into one topic deeply -- for example, looking at worker conditions in Bangladesh, or focusing on recycling mixed materials, or a particular sustainable raw material like hemp. Disappointingly, two organizations I bookmarked to look up (like magnifeco and futurewear) are no longer active. I was happy to see Sseko is still around and will be looking into them more. I would only recommend this to someone who doesn't know much about sustainability in fashion and wants a quick perspective (and doesn't mind that it reads like a college paper).

Well written piece, exploring the biggest issues that fashion industry is facing currently.
Explaining Pulse Report, basic principles of sustainability, introducing the essential organisations that specialise in tackling the problem, mentioning the necessary shift in the way our society consumes fashion and describing the value of advanced technology in order to cultivate better practices.

I appreciate the intent of the book and I learned about a few innovations I hadn’t previously heard of. But there was so much time spent telling us what the author planned to talk about and much less time spent actually talking about it. The organization of the book was also discombobulating.

Definitely not a book for people who have knowledge in the subject - there is nothing new there. Also, it feels like an undergrad essay/dissertation.

Great introduction to sustainability and the fashion industry! Little provides a great overview of the ways that the fashion industry is a major contributor to the sustainability crisis we are currently facing. However, he manages to put a positive spin on the story throughout the book by identifying companies that are trying to make a difference and ways in which we as the consumer can make a difference as well. I love the combination of research and facts with interviews and stories - made it feel like a narrative but one that I was learning from in every chapter. I have not been able to find many similar materials on this topic and hope Little puts out more soon!
