Who says Marvel isn't dark and bleak. This continues on with the epic saga that flows over Avengers and New Avengers.
Whilst the battle rages on in space, Thanos has found what he is looking for on earth.
Can the Avengers and allies save the earth or is it all doomed?

Full-bodied Modern Age Cosmic Marvel, with all the epic twists and turns that entails. The characterization is on target, the dialogue rich, the pacing deliberate and engaging, and the art sublime. It is as grim as anything that carries in the march toward Secret Wars 2015 has to be, and stings more in hindsight, but at this point in the story the sturm und drang feels wholly earned. Highly recommended for Cosmic Marvel lovers and those trying to catch up on what the heck is going on in the MU.

The plot felt more focused this time around. In two comic collections we have alot going on. Many characters, backgrounds and settings are thrown into the mix. There are numerous plots going on, and the comic threads between these, and happily moves from one to another like liquid. Sometimes it made the comic feel unfocused and frenetic. The characters, the sub-plots and the conclusions hard to follow or understand. In some cases it felt like the authors relied on Deus Ex Machina to solve scenarios quickly. But, overall, the illustrations are bright and detailed, the plot enjoyable and the characters engaging.

More of Infinity 1 ka-pow action, bright panels, and Thanos big-badding it through the universe. Though, there were some moments in vol.2 which made me enjoy it just a little more than vol.1 (Thor hammering Thanos in the face, Thor at the beginning of the story, the drama between T'Challa and Shuri at the end - all good stuff). There's also Cap - I'd read absolute dreck (and have done) just for an ounce of his square-jawed determination and righteous indignation, of which there's always enough to enjoy a comeek. Not bad.

This one I liked better than Part 1 because it has more relevant consequences and it rewrites a lot of the Marvel galactic politics.

Con: Still no major character deaths. Which, quite frankly, isn't believable considering the scale of the events.

Continues in the same vein as volume 1 with a number of neat visuals and the storytelling is perfectly good. There seems to be real danger here for our characters however when it comes down to it the ending is a bit disappointing.

Slightly better than the first (but still not earning a permanent place in my collection) as it has a bit more focus. However, still not for me. I guess I'm realising that I've gone off Marvel comics 🫤.

It's been a bit better than part 1 -> less confusing.

I liked the story but it felt like that there was no real ending - only a set up for another series.

All in all, an okay read.

Again, wildly efficient but deeply clinical storytelling. An elegant bit of clockwork but not much more

Hickman's first solo event book, and in keeping with his oft-noted skills in intricate plotting, it certainly fits together a lot better than many of them, dovetailing the plots of his own Avengers and Illuminati books with a new threat. Simply having a plot that makes sense without everyone having to act in uncharacteristic or plain idiotic ways is nice, and on top of that you get some suitably epic scenes (because Hickman is also very good at scale) - but what's oddly lacking is any sense of novelty. Thanos being essentially a knock-off Darkseid, there are inevitable echoes of Grant Morrison's Rock of Ages and its derivatives - but worse, Hickman appears to be ripping himself off, and worse still, his own fairly recent Marvel work. Multiple threats converging on Earth, hope lying with the arch-enemy, a big role for the Inhumans - all of this already happened, and with much more emotional resonance, when he was writing Fantastic Four.

Garbage. Very pretty garbage. Read 95% of it in one sitting - would have struggled to get thru it otherwise.

To be fair, it's probably exactly the Marvel publication I shouldn't have read given my lack of recent knowledge with the characters and settings. Would almost certainly be more fun if I had known these things previously, I guess. And I like the intergalactic element.

That said, I don't see how you can throw all these invincible, omnipotent beings together and have them punch or fire their massive rays at each other without killing each other and hope to achieve any tension. There's just no menace or peril in it. I was being generous in that middle paragraph cos I like the art but it's bollocks. There. I said it.

This was a touch disappointing after the first half. The illuminati meet familiar faces from a parallel universe and then something indistinct happens. The Avengers in space use the power of reality television to defeat the builders....and some other indistinct things happen. And Thanos' plan has far less depth than expected and everyone rushes to beat in a conclusion that harkens back to his 2nd most memorable appearance.
This was a much shorter series than usual Marvel Crossovers (well, mostly Avengers) but it rushes the final act of all plots and doesn't explain much at all. It probably would have benefited from being 8 or 9 issues. Again a story that feels like the mid part of an arc.

After growing up with wonderful complex cosmic arches, this comes as a bit of a letdown. The story feels flat. The main foes do not give out a feeling of impending doom and devastation like Anihilus or any of the other cosmic characters did. And Thanos, being one if nit the greatest threat in the Marvel Universe is set as a kind of background villain.
