About the author

Hino Ashihei(火野 葦平) was a Japanese reporter and award-winning novelist. He was a soldier in Japanese-China and wrote about the daily lives in the Japanese corps. It was these war novels that he was most popular for. He died in 1960 after overdosing on sleeping pills.
