Life was quiet for Cath and her dad, living alone. But when they adopt a cat named Sushi, things get a bit too exciting! Between turning everything into either a personal scratching post or litter box, and the constant cat and mouse game of “love me/leave me alone,” Cath and Dad have a lot to learn! Cath also learns how good it is to have a constant companion, a role Cath’s dad is trying to fill on his own. It’s a hilarious and heartwarming adventure of daily life of this little girl…with a dad and a cat along for the ride!
Christophe Cazenove was born in Martigues in 1969. A lifelong comics fan, Christophe's first efforts led to a twelve year career … in supermarkets! Toward the tenth year of his employment in frozen foods, one of his projects attracted the attention of comics writer and editor Olivier Sulpice: Predictions of Nostra. After that, he regularly worked for French publisher Bamboo putting his humor to work on series like Gendarmes, the Fire, the Driving School and finally The Sisters. He also participates in the collection "Sport" with Basketball Dunk while writing less thematic stories, such as Area 51. He is also co-writer of the collection "Fades". More recently, he wrote the screenplay for Eden Globe-Trotter, The Adventures of Gullia, My Mother and Me.
I received an advanced reader copy of this book to read in exchange for an honest review via netgalley and the publishers.
This is a fantastic graphic novel about a little girl called Cat, her dad (who's a single parent) and her cat called Suchi. This is a colourful and numerous novel that was alot of fun to read with my little one who also found it humorous. Even though it's about a cat, its not necessarily just for cat lovers, as we love dogs but really enjoyed this.
Super cute and laugh out loud funny. I totally relate to this comic, but to the Dad rather than Cat. I’m not really a cat person so I felt for the Dad every time something went wrong. The author and illustrator have cats spot on, from their night time habits to their indifference to their owners. Kids and adults alike will love this book.
This comic had so much potential. I reviewed this with my cat loving son. This comic was incredibly difficult to read. The font was incredibly small and in the digital copy you had to enlarge it so much it distorted the format and made it difficult to navigate. My son didn't find this open form graphic format intuitive as you would with a normal block style comic. He felt that he didn't know where he was supposed to read next, which lead to frustration. While the ideas presented here were really great, thet lacked a natural flow. The storyline was chaotic, moving from one scene to another without an intuitive flow. For example, you see the cat going out side at the end of one page, and the start of the other he's in outer space. My son was extremely frustrated and said "Now he's in space? how? that makes no sense". It took me a moment to realize what this part of the story was about. He did like the cat Sushi and commented that the graphics were great, but he didn't like the way the storyline jumped all over the place. After reviewing myself, I have to agree. The ideas presented were fun and could have had better impact with a consistent flow to the story, especially with better explanations of where each scene lead.
Thank you to Netgalley and Papercutz for the ARC in exchange for an honest review.
Cute! Maybe a 3.5, for the cute art. I feel kind of mean for giving it just three stars, because some people might see that as a bad review, but I don't mean it that way. After all, the description for a three-star review says "I liked it," and I did like it. Just, to give a book four stars, I have to really like it, and my standards for that are pretty high. But this one is, as I say, cute! If you like silly misbehaving cats, go for it!
That was a super entertaining comic ! Like many of you, I'm a cat lover, so a comic called Cat & Cat is bound to call my name haha.
I only realized this now, but this is from the same guy who is behind "The Sisters" series, and I also loved that series as a teen.
Filled with comics that don't follow each other (Yay short stories ! :D), this comic is both cute and funny. I loved reading about the little family moments centered around Sushi the cat, which are soooooooo relatable. I mean, seriously, that cat is a little demon, and he reminded me so much about my own cat !
The topic of this comic makes it readable by everyone in the family, whether you're 7 or 90, and it's a great comic to read to your kid when you want to share a moment with them. Or even to read when you're alone, you'll still find it fun :)
'Cat and Cat: Girl Meets Cat' with words and art by Christophe Cazenove is a collection of comic strips about a single dad, his daughter cat, and their cat, Sushi.
Sushi, the cat, likes tearing up the house and getting in the way. He won't eat dad's odd food creations, and he likes going outside sometimes. Cat is rambunctious and has a great imagination. Dad is longsuffering, but really likes his busy house, for the most part.
I had a lot of fun reading this collection. The humor is great and so is the art. I like the fluid motion that Christophe Cazenove uses for these characters. Everything seems to be drawn with a curve. It's bright and colorful and a great collection for all ages.
I received a review copy of this graphic novel from Papercutz and NetGalley in exchange for an honest review. Thank you for allowing me to review this graphic novel.
I picked this up because my daughter randomly pulled it off of the shelf at the library and it looked cute so I told her we could check it out. It isn’t really like a typical graphic novel where it tells one story over several pages or the whole book. Each page is like it’s own individual comic strip about the same family and their cat. I read some of it with my daughter and she liked it, but she’s two so I didn’t read the whole book with her. I found it very entertaining and funny. A cat owner or cat lover could definitely appreciate the humor. It’s a very family friendly book. However, I do wish there was more of a chronological progressing story to it and not just a bunch of silly anecdotes all compiled together.
The cover of this one was so funny!! We both had a chuckle over the cover. We thought it was weird that you never find out what the girls name was, but that didn't take away from the story. Although this was not in general comic format it was still easy to follow and read. It had a lot of colorful artwork and we loved it. I wished we could get a stuffed toy of Sushi!!!
We would love to see a cartoon of this one as this was just overly cute!!!
A bright and busy collection of one-page comic strips, showing life with a cat. Better when it goes away from the expected stuff such as how damaging they can be, it shows this moggie, Sushi, standing in front of the fridge to make itself cold so its human will pamper it more, and so on. The humans are shown to be wacky, too – the cat trying to work out why its cat-flap isn't working is certainly amusing. There's a lot here and little produced a proper laugh, but it's certainly fine if you can get to like the over-cartoonish style.
A cute story about Cat (the girl) and Sushi (the cat). Each page is its own story, but each leads into another. Fun illustrations, but while there are no traditional panels, the setup has imaginary boundaries. Unlike Sushi. The everyday mayhem of a girl, her dad and their cat takes place. I was not "jumping up and down" and was not sure I would read book two, it is a nice book to experience if you like graphic novels and finding new things. If you like crazy, modern stories and cats, it is a must. Book two is more of the same, so if you got your fill of the antics, you're good with stopping at book one.
I was sent an eArc of this comic by NetGalley in exchange for my honest review. I love this so much! Its so cute & hilarious & so true if you have a cat(s). The characters are well done & so likeable & relatable. The story is so cute. I love the art style. I really hope there will be more issues published as I've gotten attached to the characters & I would love to see more of this series. I recommend it for kids & adults & anyone who loves/owns cats.
Miss 7 enjoyed this and it will definitely resonate with cat owners! It's a bit like reading a Garfield comic, each vignette is about a page long rather than being an over-arching story.
Miss 7 and I like to explore different books and authors at the library, sometimes around particular topics or themes. We try to get different ones out every week or so; it's fun for both of us to have the variety and to look at a mix of new & favourite authors.
A collection of adventures and misadventures featuring a girl, Cat, her cat Sushi, and Cat's father.
This is cute and attractively illustrated and features believable cat antics. The only drawback is that the font is teeny tiny, like size 4 or 6! I feel like it should come with a magnifying glass. Kids with eagles eyes will have no problem, but anyone with visual acuity or any kind of visual issue requiring glasses may struggle.
Cute comics about a crazy cat! The book is more of one pagers that don't actually go together. Like comics you might find in the newspaper. But there were definitely some cute moments and I like the bright illustrations.
I ended up reading this one because I accidentally got book 5 in the series and thought I would then have to read 1-4 but now I might just skip 2-4 for now and go straight to 5.
I think I would have loved this book had I been able to finish it, but the super-tiny type made reading more than a few pages impossible for me. I can't squint through an entire book. It's also in a semi-script font that I think kids who can't read cursive may struggle to grasp. I wish they'd put it in a larger size so the images and print could have been bigger.
This is a graphic novel about a girl who lives with her single dad and her cat Sushi. I enjoyed the humor and cat antics, but had a difficult time following the story because the story line felt a bit disjointed. Each page was also cluttered with too many drawings. I think that the illustrated scenes on each of the pages needed to be organized in a way that is easier for the reader to follow.
Hilarious! “Cat and Cat #1” has an addictive frenetic energy that pulses from the character designs, page layouts, wacky cat action, dialogue, text, and even the speech bubbles. This delightful collection of funny slice-of-live comics is enough to convert even the most devoted dog-lover.
So in love with this book and the funny times of living with a cat! Reminds me a bit of Simon's Cat with the antics of dealing with a misbehaving destructo cat. Fantastic for any cat lover or really anyone that can laugh at a cat.
It was kind of confusing that the girl's name is Cat and the cat's name is Sushi. Cute comics though. Each page is a different comic, so it's not one whole story like I expected, but I still liked it. In my edition of the book, the writing was very small though!
I ADORE the colorful, cartoony illustrations even with the small font. Maybe it’s because I’m not a cat-person, but I felt bad for the dad most of time (tho he could be a lil mean-spirited).
Such a cute idea, but I truly can’t read the tiny print in a leisurely way, so it took away from the story itself. Would love to see a reprint with larger panels! :-)
Catherine (aka, Cat) and her new cat, Sushi, go on plenty of everyday adventures. Filled with cat jokes and humor that any cat-owner will appreciate and recognize.
I knew just by seeing the graphics and the font that this comic book was originally French. It was lots of fun to read. I wish I could have gotten the French version.
