How to Lose a Fiancé

Rate this book
Sophia Andreou has always been the “good daughter” who tried to keep her domineering father happy. She followed the rules and did everything that was asked of her. But this time, her father is asking too much. The family company is crumbling, and her father has arranged a marriage to a Greek billionaire who can save their property business. What?! Umm no thank you. If Cinderella can dress up to win a prince, surely Sophia can do the opposite and ditch hers...Dion Kourakis has come a long way from being an orphan with only a single friend to his name. Now he runs a billion-dollar investment company and has the respect of everyone in Europe. His charming personality covers a lot of emotional scars, including his desire to make his mentor proud. Dion doesn’t exactly want a bride to go along with his next business deal, and he plans on letting the lass down gently when they meet...Only, his future bride has turned out to be nothing like what he thought she’d be. She’s quirky and has a habit of turning up to social events in strange outfits. It doesn’t take a genius to figure out what she’s up to, but the harder she tries to convince him she’d be an awful wife, the more he wants to convince her they’d be perfect together.

Well, it finally happened.

After many moons of reading romance novels, I finally found a Greek billionaire story I can get behind. I have to say, I honestly thought this day would never come.

Sophia has lived her life trying to fade into the background. Her overbearing father demands a docile and subservient daughter, even though her natural inclination is to be bold and stick to her own guns. At 24, Sofia’s learned to keep to herself and not rock the boat, but when her father tells her she’s part of a business arrangement and must now marry a Greek billionaire, self-preservation becomes the name of the game.

Dion Kourakis learned from an early age that the only person he could count on was himself. When the opportunity to buy the company started by the late father that abandoned him to orphanage life becomes a possibility, Dion’s only goal is to buy the company and dismantle it. If that means taking on a bride, so be it. Obviously Dion didn’t take his future wife’s love of taxidermy into consideration.

“Rodents?” Dion blinked. “Plural?”
“Yes, I have a few rats and squirrels and a prairie dog. Oh, and a chinchilla.” She nodded as though she might be talking about her collection of handbags or lipsticks or an extensive library of books, each of which would have been vastly preferable to a zoo of dead animals. “I’m trying to figure out the best way to have them all shipped over.”

So here’s the deal. Normally, I don’t go for the greek/sheik/billionaire books that masquerade as romance novels. I always feel like those ladies have reason to be mad and get on a roll with their effervescent anger, only to succumb to the dreamy charms of the hero and melt right into him. I’m over the melting. When I started reading How to Lose a Fiance, I realized almost immediately that wasn’t the kind of book I was dealing with.

Once the two meet and greet, Sophia does everything she can to get Dion to cave on the arranged marriage agreement, including introducing the idea of a life of taxidermy. For his part, Dion begins to see through Sofia’s plan early on. The lightheartedness of the first half of the book helped ease me into the whole “business” end of the agreement.

What I loved most was the lack of bullshit once they both understood the other’s side. Once they were called on their manipulations, both characters were completely honest with the other and worked together to get what they wanted. As a result, there’s a refreshing lack of soap opera drama and we’re left with two fabulous characters in their own right, getting to know each other and falling in love.

How to Lose a Fiance turned out to be an awesome surprise. Here’s hoping my fear of greek billionaire stories is a thing of the past.

Reminded me so much of a traditional HQ romance... 3.5 stars
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Because I am a romance addict I’ve read hundreds of millionaire/billionaire stories. I enjoy them I admit. Every woman wants to be spoiled and fall for a hot guy who can afford to spoil us. This book is exactly that. It reminded me so much of a traditional Harlequin romance though. Several areas I found humorous. Are there really women who are that docile and refuse to stick up for themselves? I have a hard time with that.
Regardless, Sophia managed to deal with being a pawn in her fathers twisted mind in a humorous way. I love the eccentricity and confusion she must’ve brought her intended. HA. But then Dion and Sophia discovered what each other is all about and a deal was made.
I just love the way their love finally bloomed. Once the walls finally went down and they realized there was something there, this became something lovely to read. Not your typical millionaire/billionaire romance, but yet it has familiar strains of tradition.
A pleasure to read in all aspects. Rich, sexy, and fun.
Sophia reluctantly agrees to an arranged marriage to protect her mother. She flies out to Corfu to meet her soon to be fiancè but she has a plan.
Dion wants to buy Sophia's fathers company for personal reasons and if that means a bride being in deal then who is he to say no. He wants the company more than anything else. I didn't even mind that he is a millionaire. He did act like it and he doesn't have a string of women.
I rarely wander into the rom com genre there is just something that rubs me the wrong way. Keeping a balance where it is funny but not going over the line to ridiculous is a difficult feat. I found that this applied here. The plot was a bit thin and could have had more depth. But rom com is meant to be fluffy. The writing is excellent and engaging.
I was enjoying it up until the 28% mark and then I hit a snag. The heroine was about to do something stupid but she managed to backtrack but in the end it all blew up in her face. She knew it was a bad idea yet she did it anyway.
I liked it but if you love rom coms then this is the book for you.
Smart, seductive, and entertaining!
How to Lose a Fiancé is a hilarious, quick, steamy tale that takes us into the life of the stubborn, creative, Sophia Andreous as she endeavours to do whatever it takes to have the sexy, hardworking, billionaire Dion revoke the business deal that includes their arranged marriage.
The writing is whimsical and light. The characters are quirky, supportive, and passionate. And the plot is a laugh-out-loud funny blend of familial obligation, life, love, friendship, introspection, romance, awkward moments, embarrassing situations, and outrageous hijinks.
Overall, How to Lose a Fiancé is another sassy, sensual, amusing novel by London that has all the characteristics of a fantastic romcom, including adorable characters, a witty storyline, and the requisite swoon-worthy, happy-ever-after ending.
Thank you to Stefanie London and Entangled Publishing for providing me with a copy in exchange for an honest review.
Stefanie London produces a wonderfully fun, sexy and witty romance.
Dion Kourakis has built a billion dollar Investment Empire with his only friend by his side and the help and support his ailing mentor. He needs nothing except a bit of revenge and in order to get it he requires acquiring a company that comes with a bride for him. Getting married and falling in love was never in his life plan, and now he’ll have to resist his future wife’s beauty and quirky personality. So as to not look focus of his objective.
Sophia Andreou has always put her family first. Pleasing her father comes as second nature, but not when he’s ordering her to marry a stranger on the other side of the planet in order to save his company from ruin. But being treated like cattle is something she won’t allow and has now devised a plan to make her fiancé not want her. But can she really hide behind the clown pants and taxidermy hobby from her future husband’s sharp eyes.
In this charming arranged romance we get to know Sophia who is tired of keeping up the appearance of good daughter in a perfect family wanting nothing more than a simple life away from her tyrannical father but in order to do so she’ll have to compromise and marry the handsome Dion. But not before trying to appear as the least appealing wife material in the world, giving the reader some very comical moments.
The more we learn about Dion though, the more Sophia and the reader realizes he’s a good man trying to overcome a difficult past. The story unfolds in a dual point of view presentation and I enjoyed experiencing how the fall for each other no matter how much they resist it.
This is a lovely romance with enough sexiness and a humor to keep things fun and enjoyable.
How to Lose a Fiancé is a standalone contemporary romance by Stefanie London. Told from various points of view with a happy ending.
A Greek billionaire meets his match in How to Lose a Fiancé . I’m generally not one for billionaire romances, but how could I resist one where the heroine pulls a reverse Ugly Duckling and is armed with a taxidermy fox? Author Stefanie London does a good job of mixing humor and heart in this story.
All her life, Sophia Andreou has worked to keep her father happy. She’s so close to getting her freedom when the man pulls the rug out from under her and says he’s arranged a marriage for Sophia. Marriage to a Greek billionaire may sound like a dream to some, but Sophia has no desire to be controlled by anyone ever again. She can’t refuse for fear of what might happen to her mother, so she’s determined to drive Dion Kourakis away with eccentric outfits and a few unique interests (see aforementioned fox). Sophia is a kind, likeable heroine who’s been put in a hard spot and won’t let herself be walked over. I liked her spirit and found her easy to root for. As for Dion, the man has a great deal of patience. He has a heartbreaking past that drives his present and really made me feel for him. I enjoyed watching him roll with the punches and handle whatever Sophia threw at him. I won’t spoil his reasons for agreeing to the arranged marriage in the first place, but suffice it to say they make sense for his character. Dion is pretty much perfect book boyfriend material, so I was eager to see he and Sophia fall in love once he got to see the real her. The two of them are well-suited and there isn’t any false drama, which I greatly appreciated.
How to Lose a Fiancé is the second book in Ms. London’s Greek Billionaires series, but it can easily be read as a standalone. I really enjoyed Sophia and Dion together, but I will admit I didn’t find them or their romance very memorable, which is a bit of a downside for me. Baroness Sasha Foxington III was definitely the breakout star of this book, a fairly impressive feat considering she’s stuffed. But even with this quibble, I still recommend How to Lose a Fiancé to anyone looking for an entertaining contemporary romance that’s fast-paced, warm-hearted, and fun.
I have been waiting for this book since it reminds me of how to lose a guy in 10 days.. it was an okay book...
It was funny, sweet and made me laugh at the things Sophia did to make Dion not marry her since she was abit scared of her controlling father.. she did so many things bought taxidermy animals, wear second hand ugly clothes.. and was almost going to fake a affair (thank god she didnt do it but that did bite her in the ass later on who she asked.)  to get out of the contract.. but Dion caught on to her plan even with all that mess he was a nice guy i honestly thought he would be running for the hills but he stuck by every crazy thing.. and made a deal marry eachother no love we have benefits with eachother and you have freedom.... some drama happens after they marry a tragic loss and that plan Sophia was going to do comes back around.. and i wanna smack Dion for saying some dumb stuff near the end and not fighting for his girl.. :/ as for sophia she changed she stood up for what she wanted and finally told her controlling father off.
No ow/om, no cheating, dramaish, slight secondary charas, sexy times, no virgins
Great setup for this fun, sexy romance! Sophia's controlling father has planned a marriage of convenience for her to Dion along with the sale of his company. Sophia needs Dion to reject her so she can get out of the marriage without making her father angry, so she plans to be as outlandish as possible, and exactly the wrong type of woman for a society lifestyle. But it's not long before Dion sees through her ruse and when the truth comes out, the real woman is even more fascinating to him.
Maybe a marriage of convenience can get them both what they want....
There are lots of laughs in this one. Sophia's deception doesn't last too long, and when Dion finds out why she's acted the way she has, he wants to make this an arrangement that will work for both of them. He has no interest in love, but a companion for the days (and the nights) is pretty appealing. I love how they grow closer together as the story progresses and there are some very sexy love scenes. Sophia's goal in this marriage is to get her mother away from her controlling father but things don't quite work out the way she wants. Through it all Dion is a supportive partner and it's not long before he realizes that his feelings for Sophia are stronger than he'd planned. The loss of a mentor and friend makes him realize he has to take a chance on a real future with Sophia. The beautiful island setting of Corfu makes for some a lovely setting. This is a fun, sexy story with likable characters and a sweet happy ending. I can always count on Stefanie London to provide a thoroughly enjoyable romance!
Sophia has done everything possible to make her father happy. Following the rules, being a good daughter, etc., but even she has a limit, and, him arranging a marriage for her for the sake of the family business is it.
Dion was an orphan and has clawed his way to the top. He didn't have anything back then, now he has everything. Billions of dollars, the respect of his peers and then some. However, his past left emotional scars he doesn't allow anyone to see, but you can only ignore them for so long. He wants to make his mentor proud, but marrying a woman he's never met? No, not for him...and he'll let her down gently the second he gets a chance.
Sophia is nothing like Dion expected, a vice versa, but he didn't get where he is by not being observant. He knows she's putting on a show, wanting to push him away and not want to marry her, but he sees the real her...and is falling for that woman.
Can Sophia convince Dion not to go through with it? Does she even want to any longer? Will Dion be able to prove to Sophia he truly wants this and no longer sees it as a business arrangement? Will they get their HEA?
One-click now and follow along as two people are brought together for one reason, only to find a real connection that will bind them instead.
o pai de Sophia conta a ela que está vendendo a empresa e ela terá que casar com o comprador para mantê-la na família. Apesar de Sophia querer dizer não, o pai manipulador e verbalmente abusivo, ameaçou a mãe dela (que tem uma saúde mental frágil e é apaixonada pelo marido), caso não se case. Então, Soph tem a ideia de fazer com que seu futuro noivo desista da ideia, livrando-a do casamento arranjado, e para isso ela terá que ser a pior noiva possível.
Por outro lado, Dion quer a empresa do pai de Sophia, de qualquer maneira, mesmo que tenha que casar. Ele é um órfão que se tornou milionário com a ajuda de um mentor e nele foi o único lugar que encontrou algum senso de família, e nunca tinha sonhado em se casar. Dion não acredita no amor, apesar de amar seu mentor, Elias, que está morrendo, só o conheceu na vida adulta. Ele tem zero espectativas quanto ao amor, mas quer ter uma relação amigável e agradável com Sophia e fazê-la feliz, na medida do possível.
Quando aparece uma noiva ao contrário de tudo o que ele pensou, este fica chocado, mas é educado o suficiente para não demonstrar.
Soph dá seu máximo para assustá-lo, mas Dion quer a empresa por razões pessoais, envolvendo sua família biológica, por isso, não vai desistir do acordo por nada.
Uma pessoa fazendo de tudo para espantar a outra e esta fazendo de tudo para agradar e conquistar aquela, dois teimosos e nenhum dos dois disposto a desistir. Quem será que ganha???
Chega determinado momento em que os dois verão que "quando não pode vencê-los, junte-se a eles!" E irão criar, mais ou menos uma trégua. Mas como confiar em alguém que mente e arma durante todo o tempo do relacionamento??
Eu amo livros que me façam rir, e me diverti muito lendo esse. Foi meu primeiro contato com a autora e eu adorei, desde a sinopse! Me senti um pouco como em "como perder um homem em dez dias" em algumas partes. Muito gostosa a leitura e apaixonante. Senti pena do Dion, que é um príncipe, e da Sophia, que só tava tentando se livrar e livrar a mãe do pai. Não sabia pra quem torcer kkkk! Amei demais!
I've been a big fan of Stefanie London ever since I read her Bad Bachelors series. She writes fun contemporary romances that are super swoony to boot. I loved the concept of How to Lose a Fiance, so I knew I had to try it. I mean, what's not to like with a story of a woman trying to get her fiance to dump her?
Sophia has spent most of her life keeping her family by basically being a puppet in her father's hands. She does everything that he asks of her without a word, but this time around he has gone too far. He has arranged her marriage without her consent to a Greek billionaire who is also helping save their family company. Sophia has no say in the matter, but she won't go down without a fight. She heads off to Greece with plans of having her new fiance dump her. Will she be successful? You'll have to read the book to find out! I had mixed feelings about Sophia. I felt for her and I understood why she was so frustrated with her situations, but at times, I found her actions to be childish. She acted like the worst possible version of what she thinks a bad wife would be like. When she gave up her front though, I found her more likable.
Perhaps my feelings of annoyance towards Sophia stemmed from Dion, her fiance being such a good guy. Dion grew up an orphan and has worked hard to become a billionaire. He has his reasons for agreeing to marry Sophia that have to do with his mentor who really made him the man he was. I liked Dion a lot. Even when Sophia kept embarrassing him in public, he showed her nothing but kindness and thoughtfulness. Once these two started bonding, the romance was super sweet. I wouldn't call it as memorable as Bad Reputation, my favorite book from the author, but I still enjoyed it.
In the end, I liked How to Lose a Fiance, but it's not one I loved. If you're in the mood for something fun and light this summer, I'd give this a try.
Ummm....a Greek billionaire? Yes please!!! I was hooked on How to Lose a Fiancé as soon as I read the blurb and thankfully the entire novel did not disappoint. I loved how tough Sophia was throughout the novel. It's refreshing to see a woman have a backbone these days! And Dion....oh Dion! I adored him! I enjoyed witnessing these two move from a marriage in name only to a real marriage! Their journey to falling in love wasn't easy, but it was definitely worth it in the end. Sophia and Dion are powerful together and I loved how overcame many obstacles together. And snaps for Sophia for finally standing up to her father!!! YAS honey!!! If you are looking for a sweet read this summer, this is the book for you!
After letting her father dictated all her life, Sophia Andreou dreams of a life of independence but she's still staying for her mom who's not emotionally strong. But now he went too far. He wants her to marry a man she never met to save his business company. No matter how nice the self-made Greek billionaire sound, or well-mannered and well-behaved, she doesn't want to marry a stranger but know she can't refuse. So instead, she'll just have to find a way to convince Dion Kourakis to not want to marry her, even if it means wearing awful clothes and bringing very weird pets with her😉. Dion is not happy about marrying a stranger either, but if he wants the company, he doesn't have a choice. When his future wife arrive in Greece, he's surprised to meet a woman totally different than what he's been told about her. But once he discover the truth, each one of them will try to convince the other about why they should or should not go with the marriage. But when attraction intertwine, will it get easier or harder to deal with the growing feelings between them?
"Maybe we could turn the lights off."
"But then I won't be able to see your beautiful face."
How to Lose a Fiancé is book 2 in a series. I haven't read the previous one (but will now) and it can be read as a standalone no trouble. It was a rom-com with depth, so the perfect mix of hilarious situations and romance. Lots of great ideas in this book, especially Baroness Sasha Foxington the third. If you want to know who that is, read this book. But read it anyway because that's a great love story.
Well written and fun romance with some steamy scenes and a smidgen of drama. I enjoyed it. 😍 The hero is a billionaire and out for revenge, so the intended marriage is one of convenience. There were some humorous scenes with the fox, so that was different.
It's a weird day when my biggest problem with the book is the cover. And it's not even a bad cover when you take it as it is. It's just... the heroine of this book, Sophia, is frequently described as pale, paler than Dion at the very least. So why is this beautiful but very tanned woman on the cover??? Yes, I know that's a very picky point for me to make, but ugh.
Now that my worst criticism is over and done with... I read this book mostly in one sitting. Seriously. I pretty much read it all in one day, aside from the first few percent that I read before sleeping, only getting up for bathroom breaks. I barely ate on Sunday because I didn't want to stop reading. I had plans for that day! Aspirations! I was going to accomplish things! And yet this book demanded my attention.
In the story, Sophia is effectively sold to Dion as part of the sale of her father's business. All she wants is to hide away from the world while running her own online business, but her father has her mother under his control, and Sophia won't leave her mother unprotected. So, to keep her mother happy and healthy, she agrees to fly to Greece and meet Dion. However, she has no intention of actually getting married. Instead, she plans to adopt rather interesting hobbies and styles to encourage Dion to reject her.
The only problem with this is that Dion really, really, really wants this company. He has ulterior motives for buying it; he wants it destroyed, and he will do whatever it takes to get what he wants. What results is some rather hilarious interactions, particularly involving taxidermy and a certain fox.
What I really like about this book is that it surprised me quite a few times. It looked like it was gonna go down particular routes at here and there, and it would have been very predictable if it had done so. For example, I really don't like plots that involve cheating, and I would have probably given up on the book if the cliché cheating scandal was used. But Stefanie managed to avoid that, and I'm so pleased she did. Instead we got something a little bit more unique given that it looked like it was going to be a fairly standard Greek billionaire story with an alpha male.
We got something a tad bit deeper. The tension between the characters didn't come from people not communicating, nor from serious power trips — well, not exactly. Really, it was born out of a lack of self-awareness. Maybe a dash of toxic masculinity as well, given that men are supposed to show emotions other than anger. Dion did try to to get to know Sophia and to accommodate her wants and needs, while Sophia gave Dion chances. They even communicated about most things fairly quickly. It all came down to not being able to accept love as a viable emotion, and not just romantic love.
Ultimately, there was a good balance of emotional depth and humour that kept me hooked from (almost) the beginning to the very end. This might be one of the best billionaire stories I've read in a while. I'm looking forward to reading more from Stefanie!
I voluntarily read and reviewed an advanced copy of this book. All thoughts and opinions are my own.
MS London never disappoints me with one of her stories, she really knows how to pull a reader in, she brings the characters to life, she makes me cheer them on and feel the emotions, make yourself comfy for this one you won’t want to put it down as you get to know Dion and Sophia.
Sophia Andreou lives in New York she has been controlled by her father forever and now that her father’s business is in dire straits and he needs to sell it that controlling does not stop, he is making a pact with the buyer, he must marry his daughter as well. Sophia is not happy at all and pretends to go along with the plan until she reaches Corfu, then she takes up a game plan to ensure her future husband will send her back to New York.
Dion Kourakis has grown up in an orphanage, he has one best friend Nico and his mentor Elias other than that he is a loner and is a self- made billionaire, when he sees that his father’s company is for sale he jumps at the chance to buy it for personal reasons and he wants it at all costs even if it means marrying the owner’s daughter, she appears to be good wife material even if that is never what he wanted, but when Sophia arrives things don’t go to plan.
This is such a great story fun, sensual and very moving I loved Dion what a hero truly he had a few issues that he needed to overcome and Sophia with her quirky and caring ways is just the person to make him see that love is what he needs and together they find that happiness. There were many laughs throughout this story strange animals turning up in odd places clothes that are beyond belief, but above all a true deep love that had me sighing and smiling. Thank you MS London for another fabulous story one that I highly recommend
"I find it hard to view a woman who tortured me with a taxidermy fox helpless. [...] You're possibly the truest, boldest woman I know."
A bankrupt father who, to keep up appearances and not lose share in the company he is about to sell, offers his daughter to marry as part of the deal. And despite being blackmailed to agree, with her father using her mother's fragile health as an argument, Sophia is not satisfied.
All she wants is to live a quiet life, working as a virtual assistant and helping people organize their lives, not just being a rich man's trophy wife. Then a plan comes up: if her future groom gives up on marriage, her father can't blame her.
Dion doesn't believe in the institution of marriage. Nobody knows but his desire in buying the company is just one: revenge. He wants to exterminate his father's legacy. A father who abandoned him in an orphanage and never looked back.
Then begins a dangerous game of cat and mouse. He trying to understand the bride, she indirectly trying to convince him not to marry her. Stuffed animals, exaggerated clothes, mismatched and psychedelic ... even clown trousers enter the dance. Only when the couple allows themselves to abandon all masks, similarities, mutual understanding and chemistry appear explosively.
An intriguing and engaging narrative despite third-person narration. A predictable end, but with a development full of secrets and very interesting developments to follow. A complete and recommended novel for lovers of the genre.
Another winner from Stefanie! This book has it all, topped perfectly with a handsome Greek businessman! Sophia has spent her life doing her father's bidding. He's cruel, manipulative and holds her mother's well being over Sophie's head as a means of controlling her. Especially now since his latest business deal includes Sophie as part of the package. He needs to bail on his business which is failing miserably and he plays right into the hands of Dion who wants the company for his own reasons as we find out as the book unfolds. Sophie is resigned to go to Corfu, but her idea is to make herself as unappealing and ridiculous as possible so Dion won't want to marry her, all the while trying to keep things straight so the deal goes through. The antics are hysterical and I know I'll never look at a Taxidermist the same way again! No fox given! Dion is at first a bit taken aback when he sees her, this is not the woman in photos... this is.. you have to read the book. Dion does see through her disguises and attempts to cover up who she is and she slowly lets him into her life and he gets a glimpse of what her father is really like. Dion's backstory unfolds as well as well as his relationship with the man, Elias who was his mentor as well as a father figure. Elias is in failing health and his days are numbered. Dion decides to seduce Sophie to get her to open up and show herself fully and off to Paris they go! Let the games begin! The two grow closer and his self talk was quite telling. Things are spinning along nicely for the two when they return to Corfu. That is until things fail with Elias and Dion shuts down.
What a gem this is and a must read. Stefanie never disappoints and she's written yet another winner.
It's a five star read all the way plus extra sparkles for the epilogue!!
What do you do when your father has committed you to an arranged marriage that you don't want to enter into? Well, you try to lose the guy as fast as you can when you meet him!
This book definitely had lots of laughs as Sophia finds herself in Greece ready to meet the guy her father arranged for her to marry in order to save the family business. Sophia was full of spunk and knew exactly what she was doing... until she didn't. The thing was that she never thought she would actually fall for the handsome Greek Business Man who was trying to make this whole "transaction" as seemly smooth as possible.
Dion had his reasonings for going through with the marriage. And as the two find out there they are more alike than different, lines start to blurb and plans for sabotage start to break apart.
It was a cute, quick read and I loved how to two finally found the place in their worlds and with each other.
Holy anti-commitment Greek lonely billionaires, Batman! Ms. London has done it again.
I freaking love this book, it was fun, sweet and had it some sexiness to it. I adored Beauty and the Greek Billionaire and I was hoping Nico’s business partner would get his own story, and How to Lose a Fiancé totally did it justice.
Dion has been set on the path of revenge for as long as he can remember. Now with victory on the tip of his fingers he will do anything to achieve it, even if that means marrying some girl he’s never met.
Sophia is done being under the thumb of her dictatorial father, but she can’t see a way out of the latest mess he’s driven into without putting her mother’s health at risk. Marry some Greek suit who’s exactly like daddy dearest? Not a chance. She’ll do anything in her power to make Dion curse the day he accepted her hand in marriage as part of a business deal.
Armed with a plan and the conviction to see it through, she sets on driving Dion crazy enough to renege on the deal. She just hadn’t anticipated the sexy Greek guy to out matching her in all her ploys.
Watching Dion and Sophia butt heads was hilarious. She came up with the most outrageous schemes only to have Dion take them in stride. I absolutely loved their chemistry and dynamics and how they were exactly what the other one needed to grow as a person.
I wish we’d gotten to see a bit more of Marianna and Nico and their growing family and that the epilogue was a bit more centered in Sophia and Dion’s HEA, but this camper was really happy with what she got.
Funny, with some angst, lots of feelings and really hot chemistry How to Lose a Fiancé was a fabulous read that had me enchanted from start to finish. I can’t wait to see what Ms. London will have for us next!
Sophie has spent a lifetime trying to avoid her father’s wrath both for her and her mother’s sake. When she is called into his office, she didn’t expect to told that her father was selling his company to Dion, a Greek billionaire, and that her being his wife was part of the purchase. She believes the best way out of the situation is by proving herself unworthy to her new fiancée and having him end the arrangement.
Dion has a painful past and he is determined to purchase the company for his own reasons even if he needs to marry Sophie to accomplish that. When she came to visit him, he was expecting the perfect corporate wife but instead he got a flamboyant unconventional woman who certainly added some humor to his life.
He soon realizes what her plan is and that is when the fun really begins but their journey wasn’t without its turmoil along the way.
This was a cute, angst free, funny and sexy book. With a heroine desperate to ditch her fiancée you know you are going to be in for a fun ride and I was not disappointed.
.
Our heroine is suffering from the case of an arranged marriage her father has arranged as an extension of a business deal. She can’t back out so instead she comes up with a plan to get her super hot, Greek billionaire fiancée to call it off instead. The antics are definitely funny and involve a taxidermy fox and so much more!
.
Honestly I don’t know why the heroine wants to get out of the marriage (except for yeah it not being her choice) because the hero is a dream boat- not only is he rich, hot and heard working but he is super sweet and more than a little bit sexy. The only problem I really had was that the climax of the book felt kinda rushed and not enough build up to it. Other than that a cute read!
Stefanie London, a new-to-me author, writes about one of my favourite tropes in How to Lose a Fiancé and I was so intrigued and completely interested after reading the blurb. Plus, it had Greek's, which also happens to one of my favourite cultures to read about so I HAD to pick this book up!
Unfortunately, I found this book to be boring and I actually resorted to flipping pages after the 60% mark. Personally, the writing felt bland, the characters not interesting enough and the spark between the two leads was lacking. I struggled to finish this book because the story itself couldn't hold my interest for more than a few seconds.
Sophia, the female lead, started out good and with quite the potential and I understood where she was coming from but from the moment she landed in Greece I honestly found her to be quite childish. For someone like Sophia, who is not only well versed and know how things works but also has her own business, there was a certain kind of finesse I was expecting when it came to the execution of her plan. It was literally her blurting and acting on the first thing that she could think of.
Dion, the male lead, is described as someone who is powerful and at the top of the business world but for someone with an agenda, he seemed a little too laid back. For me, especially when it comes to alpha characters there is being relaxed and there is being relaxed, he was a little too much of the latter.
Sophia's parents were absolutely useless, especially the mother who was the definition of a doormat until the epilogue rolled around.
Sophia on multiple occasions claimed that she would never be like her parents but I couldn't help but note a few similarities in her behaviour, even though were not to that extent, were a reflection of those of her parents.
Moreover, this story is written in third person point of view and in my personal opinion it really didn't help the telling of the story.
Overall, How to Lose a Fiancé is a quick and easy read but one that was not for me.
2.5 Stars!
I really enjoyed this fun, semi-hate to love romance. Sophia was the type of character I can get behind. At the start of the book she plays the good daughter, but as it progresses she grows stronger and more confident. I liked her quirky ways of keeping Greek billionaire Dion away and uninterested. The romance between the two seemed to happen naturally. It didn't feel forced which was a breath of fresh air. I called it a semi-hate to love romance, because they don't actually hate each other, its more that they don't know each other and dislike the reason behind their arranged marriage.
The was a fun, quick and steamy read. If that's your cup of tea then this book is for you.
I loved this story so much. I’ve never read any Greek billionaire stories, but I am a sucker for any fake relationship/arranged marriage romances. I don’t think the cover properly shows how quirky and funny this story really is!
Sophia is essentially forced to marry Dion, a complete stranger, in order to keep a hold of her father’s company once Dion buys it. This isn’t what Sophia wants (who wants to marry a stranger?), but she will do anything to be able to make a life for herself and save her mother from her emotionally abusive and controlling father. Sophia quickly comes up with a plan to make sure Dion wants nothing to do with her once they meet.
Y’all, I was not at all expecting Sophia to be so quirky and fantastic! The plan she comes up with is hilarious, if nothing else you should put this on your radar so you can be properly introduced to Baroness Sasha Foxington III!
Like with her Bad Bachelor series, London added so much heart to this story. The more you learn about Sophia and Dion’s backstories, the harder it is to put the book down! And that epilogue! This was exactly the funny, heartfelt, satisfying romance I needed when I read it! How to Lose a Fiancé was a 4 star read for me! I highly recommend checking it out, especially if you love fake romance/arranged marriage plots!
This was a super quick and fun read. Predictable in the best ways with two entertaining main characters, decent backstory and subplots, a little bit of ridiculousness, and a dash of saucy. However, while I'm glad these are always a quick read, I always find myself wanting more detail and depth. Just an extra few chapters to build out more from Sophie and Dion.
