In Healing Through Exercise , internationally bestselling science writer Jörg Blech sets out the actual physiological effects of it triggers the growth of new brain cells, induces stem cells in blood vessels, and reverses symptoms of heart disease and type 2 diabetes. Doctors are now using exercise to combat common ailments such as heart disease, arthritis, diabetes, osteoporosis, and depression. Every one of us—whether a healthy athlete, a patient seeking to overcome a chronic disease, or a person desiring a longer, more mentally active life—can use the new and important information in this book.
An extremely well researched, thoughtful book that examines the role of exercise in preventing/addressing/improving/combating a variety of chronic and acute illnesses. While this book did seem a bit redundant at times, there was always a new, insightful study with supporting data focusing on the specific disease or condition under discussion, which was not only helpful but instructive. I have spoken with many physicians who will agree that the "common sense" notions around exercise are not necessarily common, and the theories and practices have actually evolved significantly within the even medical community (as the book suggests) within the last 15-20 years. Good food for thought...and action!
Healing through Exercise I am a reader that enjoys fitness and heavy weight lifting. I love to study fitness and health to continue educating myself on how to stay healthy. I am an older woman with a lot of health issues that require medicine. I have taken action on improving my health through exercise and healthy eating. This book explains in great detail about the more you understand exercise, the way your body works, and what steps to take, the better you can take care of your body and live a healthier life. This book helped me understand more how exercise takes action on chronic diseases. It was well organized and helpful to me then a lot of other exercise books I have read in the past. Healing through exercise is scientifically proven to prevent and overcome illnesses and shown to lengthen your life span. One of my favorite quotes from this book is, “A body in motion, stays in motion.” This book explains in great detail how exercise increases brain power and youth in the brain. It also helps strengthen your bones and helps avoid fractures. Exercise also helps release tension, boost your spirit and mental focus. I would recommend this book to anyone of any age and gender. Jorg Blech provided so many wonderful and accurate resources to help you understand how to use exercise as a weapon of mass destruction, towards chronic diseases. He also explains this is very important for people with diabetes, heart disease, and hypertension. This book is so inspiring, you will want to get up and start moving and exercising today!
Frankly, I'm a little perplexed about the thesis in this book. The author suggests that new research finds that we might do well to "work through our pain" when it comes to certain debilitating joint issues. I'd love to think that it is that simple, and maybe it is, for many of us. Certainly I find that exercise seems to lubricate everything, even my mind. And I do believe that many surgeries could be avoided with a modicum of common sense. But I am reluctant to imagine that there is no more to these diseases than misjudgement and error. Am I mistaken in taking this away from this book?
I'm pretty sure I already knew everything this book said (and re-said a couple of chapters later, and reiterated again after that), but it made me realize even more the importance of fitness. In short, it got me to the gym, but it also made me realize that I could have written the same book with more pizazz.
I didn't finish this book but what I did read I thought made a lot of sense. How recovery time for many things is to be more active as soon as you are able even if its just walking around. This book is definitely a turn on your head from traditional sleep in bed until you are better mentality. I would highly recommend this book for your information. It is your health after all.
