Advent is the first anthology by a group called Hyderabad Readers and Writers group. Presenting a set of twelve stories, the book makes the best effort in entertaining the readers.

With a lot of talk around mental well – being, “Answer to Well, Everything” explores the thought process of one, who is deciding upon suicide. On a similar note, “Before Friday The 13th Arrives” explores the pains faced by the employers of a company. “Chaaya” is the story of a lady, put in certain circumstances, making her realize the importance of what she has.

“False Hope” is a fantasy story which again tries to explore the weakness of the mind. “The Interplanetary Margarine Trail” is a fantasy story of two friends.

“It’s time to regret” is a horror story with a not so happy ending.

“Kasol Diaries” is a beautiful story of a trip which tries to rekindle hope in the readers. “Barriers” is a simple love story of a couple. “The Questionnaire” is satirical and stylish take on a funeral.

“The Red Shoes” is a thriller based on mistaken identity. “What colour is this?” is a thriller with gory detailing.

“Time Paradox” emphasises that everything in the world is going around; be it the earth itself or our lives, as we end up having deja vus from the earlier part of life.

The beauty of the book lies in the character building done in each of the stories. Though there are shortfalls in the language, it is well compensated by the plots. The stories follow the central line of mental health, with a few exceptions which explore the thriller and horror genres. However, I felt that there is a necessity to have better endings in all cases, save few. Overall, a commendable work from first timers. A great book to taste would be the bottom line.

Advent is an anthology, that comprises of 12 stories that belong to different genres. Each of the story is different in its own way. Some of the stories draw you emotionally and draw curiosity while some leave you thinking why do you have to read this book. Some of the stories have splendid content while some have bollywood style content. On an overall, the book would not disappoint you if you are not expecting much. Good read if you dont find anything else, that is!

Note to publisher: Received a copy with few pages missing. Missed a gripping story cause of that!!
