Kissyman & the Gentleman

Rate this book
New York City, 1946. No one knows his real name, but when the job is too dirty, too dangerous, they call Kissyman.

Once an elite Nazi SS commando, an honorable soldier, a taker of lives. When he was assigned to Dachau and saw what he was actually fighting for, he went AWOL and ran as far away as he could — to America. He still makes his living with a gun, but he no longer kills for his country. Now, he kills for cash.

A dashing, high-profile bodyguard known as “The Gentleman” is hired to protect Beth Copenhaver, an up-and-coming Hollywood starlet. When a man named Mathis Wrenn surfaces from Beth’s past and threatens her life, the Gentleman hires Kissyman to make Mr. Wrenn see the error of his ways.

It should be a simple job, but there is far more to the connection between Wrenn and Beth than the bombshell lets on. She’s starring in a new movie with John Wayne called “Western Dawn.” As the premier approaches, Kissyman has to get to Wrenn before Wrenn can get to Beth.

KISSYMAN & THE GENTLEMAN is two-fisted, nonstop noir action that draws you deep into the murderous world of this most unlikely hero.

A new Scott Sigler audiobook narrated by Ray Porter? Well, yes please! How can I say no to that?? And it’s two stories in one audio? Nice! I really like Sigler’s style and I have loved everything Ray Porter has narrated. So of course I was on board with this one!

The Kissyman stories are very interesting, with an unorthodox main character. He is kinda… well… crazy, I think. But mostly a…nice….guy…? Definitely not your typical hero (or even anti-hero), that is for sure. I enjoyed the uniqueness of this character. I mean, a main character that is a little bit unhinged is just a lot of fun. It was definitely not the same old story you’ve seen before. I don’t really know how to classify the Kissyman stories… not exactly a detective, but there is a little bit of mystery to solve. Maybe pulp fiction? Definitely gritty enough for pulp. Scott’s wit always makes for a fun story, no matter what kind of crazy premise is going on.

The first story was a little bit too short. It was just enough to give you a little taste of what you are in store for with the Kissyman stories. Like dipping your toe in to a pool. The second story, which the title of the audio comes from, felt longer and had more depth to the story. A lot more was going on with it. Both stories were very entertaining, but I’ve gotta give the nod to the second story for being just a little bit better. I would have loved for either story to be a full length book. I was bummed that the audiobook was over so quickly!

Ray Porter, once again, shines in his performance. He did a great job with voices. He really has a lot of range with his work and it was pretty cool getting to listen to him doing a lot of accents. And there are a ton of accents. All kinds of New York accents, ethnic accents, foreign accents. Another amazing job by Porter.

Kissyman and the Gentleman was a very quick audiobook that had lots of punch. Very entertaining plots and characters. Would love to see a full length book set in this world. Ray is an amazing narrator and really shows how talented he is with this audio. I would gladly listen to another Kissyman story.

This was such a fun story about the strangest assassin to grace the pages in a very long time. Anyone new to Scott Sigler should start here, this is the epitome of everything he is good at—action, humor and just down right good story telling.

Narrated by Ray Porter, this story shines as a wonderful performance of an intriguing concept. At its core, Kissyman is a redemption story of a former Nazi SS agent who recognizes that what he was doing for his country was wrong, so he uses his resources to escape to America. Using his rather specific talents as a hired assassin, he makes a living in post-war America. He may have a tarnished background, but he has his morals and a sense of honor.

This story is two stories in one - KISSYMAN AND SCREAMIN' JESSE DUPREE, which first introduced the character, and KISSYMAN AND THE GENTLEMAN, a novella-length story that showcases Kissyman's intelligence, skills and fortitude as he chases down a dangerous stalker who is trying to get his client killed.

Ray Porter's performance is spectacular. You can almost hear him channeling Christoph Walz in this story; his mannerisms and accent are eerily similar when portraying the German.

This is a fun story, though I must admit I'm slightly biased because a character in the story bears my name. :) But that notwithstanding, it's a fun double-fisted romp with a character you'd never thought you'd like, supported by a hardscrabble cast of colleagues and miscreants.

I'm a big fan of Scott Sigler's stories. The 'Triangle' series and the GFL series are most notable. I love those.

Somehow, I didn't find this until a few days ago. It was recommended to me by Kindle after I finished 'The Reef' (which is quite good, I have to note).

After reading the first 25% of this, I almost stopped. The basis of the character is a bit ridiculous. That is probably intentional but it's not to my tastes.

I kept reading through and upon finishing it, I'm glad I did. It drastically improved for my tastes after we got past the character introduction.

Ultimately, it's not the most notable Sigler work ever but the story is good enough.

Glad I read it but I won't be returning to it unlike GFL and such.

Another short story turned into a (stand alone?) novel. According to podcast by the author there may be a chance that he will find a way to connect this novel with the majority of his other novels collectively known as the siglerverse but only if it can be done logically. Scott is known for making simple, logical, decisions in his works. As he has said "dead is dead". That s all good and what not but this is a wonderful novel by its lonesome and I strongly suggest everyone to get your read on.

One of Sigler's short stories which was an interesting timepiece of the life of a scoundrel. This and many of his short stories can be listened to on audiobook through his "Bloodcast" series on itunes.

The story is based around an ex-nazi turned hitman in new york. Though loosing a few marbles, he gets the job done.

I enjoyed the strong personalities and humorous events that played out in this short story.

This was one of the first stories that I listened to of Scott Sigler's and I absolutely loved it!! I had never been big into listening to books, but when I met my boyfriend an he introduced me to the Siglerverse, well, lets just say I haven't stopped listening. One of my favorite things about this book was Kissyman himself. Who doesn't love a German gangster? Great story with great characters! I hope to hear more in the future!

I loved this book! It was an awesome to listen to while I was working. I found myself in love with the Ex-Nazi hitman and his oddity. Scott, I can't wait to read another Kissyman book! He's such an odd and refreshing character, add the classy scenery, and you can't help but fall in love. If you enjoy thrillers and fun characters I beg you to pick this up.

Excellent short story by Scott Sigler! I always enjoy his work! Kissyman is a former Nazi who is now a hitman for hire. He didn't like being a Nazi and he doesn't really like killing people, but it's a job. Kissyman is hired to take care of someone who has been harassing an actress. He wasn't aware that the guy was in charge of a Satan worshiping cult! Great narration by Ray Porter!

Former SS Nazi after helping a jew get out of a Nazi Camp and escape to the States now lives his days doing jobs. When killing is involved, he kisses the people he kills and lets out an insane laugh of a mad man. (Listen to the Audio Podcast, Scott Sigler does an awesome job!)

I just finished listening to this story on Scott Sigler's Bloodcast (yeah, so it was recorded back in 2010 or so....) I enjoyed it, but I am only a so-so fan of Kissyman. I prefer Scott's horror tales and of course the GFL series.

The ONLY thing that made this novella less for me than any of fantastic Scott Sigler's other work that I love is the weird/off German accent that reminds me more of Mickey Rooney as Mr. Yunioshi in Breakfast at Tiffany's, than the villians I've seen in Indiana Jones movies.

I enjoy Scott's short stories. This being one. A total step away from the weird or sci-Fi direction he normally goes. Short and entertaining.

Another great Scott Sigler audiobook. His stories may be a little too violent for some, but there is no denying he spins a good story and does a fantastic job narrating.
