Chapter one - interesting. Who beat the hell outta this poor bastard? Wtf is he?

description

But this is no fast pace Bourne Identity shit.

Any intrigue is immediately stifled by a heaping dose of awkward, boring, and bullshit.

For example...

description

FMC is all doctor via YouTube certificate of approval. It's silly shit like let me give you a hand job as a sleeping agent and let me crush of a bunch of NyQuil and sleep agents in a flask vs just giving them to you. *eyeroll central*

Aside from the stupid shiznet...

description

I'm just plain old bored out of my fing mind.

"We stood over the counter eating chicken and biscuits and ignoring all the reality around us. "

description

By 65%, there's no progression anywhere in sight for character nor plot development - it's a broken record of sexual innuendo, woe is me over amnesia, and the compound being a bunch of assholes.

I'll say that the author is actually knowledgeable on grammar and the editing is above par. Still..,

No way in hell that I can take FIVE, yes FIVE, books of this monotone, boring storyline and flat as hell characters. No way!!!

description

I think I'm gonna..

description

Exit at 65%...

...should you actually try to get through five books of this.

This review can also be found on my blog: A Match Made in Heaven

Tess Oliver has an incredible ability to write characters and relationships that are real and believable. The pace of this story was a bit fast but Luke and Angel's relationship was keeping up fine. They had an instant connection and a playfulness with each other that was a joy to watch. They already feel inseparable to me.

Angel was an interesting combination of sweetness and balls. As Luke liked to point out, she was full of inconsistencies. But that is what happens when you are a good-natured person raised in a motorcycle club. Luke was an interesting combination of traits as well. He was light and funny, seemingly not taking anything seriously. But at the same time I got the sense that he could be stone cold when he had to be. He was dangerous. They made a perfect couple and I am anxious about where the story will go from here.

I really enjoyed the different twist of a hero with no memory of himself. It was like falling for a clean slate, but he was still himself, he just didn't know it. I don't think that having his memories back has changed Luke. It may have put his priorities and motives into perspective, but he is still going to be the Luke that Angel fell for, or the Reno that Angel fell for. I am not really sure if the story will still focus on Luke and Angel. The excerpt from book 2 at the end of my ARC made it seem as if it will, but the series is called The Barringer Brothers, so I don't know if they will later be introduced as heroes. But either way, I am a bit nervous for Luke and the situation he has found himself in. Dreygon is a dangerous man and I hope that Luke can get himself and Angel out of there safely. But with 4 more books in the series, a lot could happen.

I felt like this book was a bit short and incomplete though. It seemed to end abruptly. I know the story is far from complete, but I felt like the first book should have been longer. Not enough happened in regards to the suspense of the story to satisfy me yet. Nothing really major happened between the MC and Luke as of yet. But he did remember his identity which is a big step for him, but the book didn't have a real climax. I will just have to wait for book 2 to get that I guess, which is fine. I will certainly be back to see more of Luke. He has totally won me over with his devil may care attitude, and I am curious to discover if and how his memories have changed him and his relationship with Angel, and what he plans to do next.

"You can call me Angel when you're in a hurry, or when we're laughing, or when you're mad at me, but don't ever be mad at me. But whenever you're looking at me like the way you're looking at me right now, then call me by my real name. Call me Evangeline."

I would like to thank the authors for sending me this book in exchange for an honest review.

The only reason why this one got a 3 star rating instead of a 2 star, was because of the last 2 chapters of this book. But overall this story, the main characters etc.. the way it all unfolded for majority of the book just left me feeling blah.

So I have no plans with continuing on with this series.

Angel finds Luke/Reno left for dead in the desert. She brings him home to help heal him. Home, however, is a bad-ass MC compound. To further complicate things, Luke/Reno has no memory of who he is. Angel is not happy with the life she lives, and she is drawn to our hero. All he wants to do is remember who he is, what happened to land him in the desert, and escape with Angel. But, that's not how things work in this MC.

An entertaining start to the series. MC stories are not really my thang, nor is instalust. Angel had an interesting way of administering first-aid to our hero in her attempt to help heal him...and that just made my roll my eyes so hard, that I think they rolled under my desk and may never be seen again!

I was first introduced to Tess Oliver books when I was asked to read FreeFall... The 1st book in the Custom Culture series. I just fell in loved with it. & since have been hooked on her books!!
So when she put out on FB that she had a new series coming out & it's going to be a 5 part series MC book. I was like yes!!! I can't wait to read it.

OMG!!!! This book was just out of this world!!! I mean.... Just blew me away!!! I LOVED THIS BOOK!!!

It's a MC book with a twist. It's intriguing, gritty that leaves you wanting more!!!

Reno aka Luke has amnesia. Left in the desert to die. Doesn't remember how or why he got there. He was truly on deaths door when a women happens to come across him.

Angel ( Evangeline) is the the granddaughter of Dreygon... president of the most notorious Bedlam MC biker gang.
She doesn't like living way out in the desert. She feels trapped.

When Angel comes across Luke badly hurt... confused and starving & thirsty.
She just has to help him. Taking him to the Bedlam compound is his only way for him to survive.
While Luke's at the Bedlam compound. He comes across a lot of obstacles & not very good one.

Luke's memory comes in & out.. Little images that he doesn't understand. He knows something bad has happened to him.
He also knows he's not ready to fully handle it. He's scared of what he has seen or done.

When Luke's memory comes back to him...I felt so bad for him!!!
Ughhh... No wonder why he didn't want to remember!!!
I was shocked to find out about Luke at the end of the story!! It was the perfect twist!! It left me wanting more!!
And I can't wait to read the next book in this series!!

This book was okay. I enjoyed the story but I can't see Angel being as nice or as innocent as she is if she lives where she does with who she does. I liked the ending and how Luke's memory suddenly comes back. I wonder what the gangs are planning and what will happen to Luke.

Rain Shadow Book 1 is the first of a five part series by Tess Oliver. When you hear the name Tess Oliver, myself personally- I one click the book without even reading what it is about as I have read a lot of books by her, and I know 2 things to be true;
1 It is going to be a great read
2 Whatever the cost is, it will be worth ten times the amount I will be glad to pay.

As with all of her other books, this book is well written and has a great cast of characters, it moves along at a rapid pace with no chance of putting the book down- it is too good to put down. It has a great plot and you can't guess what is going to happen, because just when you attempt a guess, it changes in a way you did not see coming.

Evangeline, aka Angel Sharpe, is a beautiful young girl. Unfortunately she has a not so good life. Angel lives out in the desert, in a compound of a motorcycle club run by her Grandfather. The only good thing in Angel's life is her aunt, otherwise there would be nothing good in her life,

One day, while riding her horse outside the compound she sees a man laying close to death all balled up to protect himself, but he is a mass of beaten ribs, whip marks on his back and chest covered in black and blue marks, and his right ear is torn into 2 pieces. He is barely hanging on, his will to survive has just slipped away. Angel rushes over to him and gives him a little bit of water and decides to take him back to the compound. Big mistake.

Met with hostility and threats all around, Angel never the less gets him into the compound and tries to clean him up a little. This is when they both realize this handsome beaten to near death man does not remember anything-his name, where he is from and if he has a family. or who he knows. Angel starts calling him Reno.

Angel's Grandfather has him dragged into the place at the compound where they torture and do whatever it takes to get the information they need. The Bedlam Motorcycle Club takes no prisoners usually and they are not too happy that despite what they do to this man he can't remember anything. Even branding him with their Motorcycle insignia on the back of hi leg does not do the trick. After Angel steps up to block a belt meant for him, her grandfather calls a halt and just lets him know he is a prisoner.

Angel takes care of him, as she has studied to be a doctor through the use of medical books and the internet, so she is the compound's healer. As she starts taking care of him she develops feelings for Reno, and he for her.

Towards the end of the book something happens to cause Reno to remember everything. What is revealed will shock you as much as it shocked me, I would have never expected what was revealed! You will have to read this and see for yourself how good it is!

Will all hell break loose now the Reno remembers who he is? Will he able to get himself and Angel out of the compound, as he is not leaving without her? Will there be any chance for Angel and Reno? what happens at the end of this book that will shock you?

I gave this book a 5*****star rating, as it is an awesome book, with all the elements that are needed! Can't wait for August when Part 2 comes out! Thank you Tess for another awesome book, or in this case series!

This book.... is probably one of the best books I've read thus far. Tess Oliver has a way of writing that keeps me very interested and in the story. The relationship between Angel and Reno moved quickly, but the story kept right up. Angel knows what she wants and goes for it. The way they love each other is refreshing. She fell in love with him knowing that he didn't have good chances once he remembered anything from his past and vice versa. I read every book with an open mind and don't make any assumptions on how I think the story is going to unfold or end. SO when this story unfolded and Reno remembered his past. I was shocked. & When the book ended as I was reading at work. I yelled " No, why would the book end" as I received more than a couple of weird looks from coworkers. Should really speak volumes about this book. So if you enjoy intense situations, that has darker sketchy characters, where the girl is the knight in shinning armor filled love story that is based in a motorcycle club then this is the book for you! I would like to thank Tess Oliver for the opportunity to read an ARC *My first one too!* I cannot wait for the second installment to the series. August is way too long!

This novel contains an interesting premise that I have not seen in other contemporary romance novels that I have picked up. The female protagonist is isolated on a compound with her overbearing/stifling biker gang family.

As always, Oliver has a beautiful handle on language and description. I was a bit thrown at first because I didn’t realize the novel was going to be in alternating first person viewpoints—the first chapter is from the male protagonist’s POV. However, once I adjusted, I did appreciate being able to see into the minds of both leads.

The only issue that I have with this novel is that while there is great suspense built into the overall storyline with what is going to be explored with the drug cartel and gang issues over the 5 novel series, the instantaneous attraction between the leads required me to suspend belief based on my personal preference for some tension building up between the characters. This is what led to me giving 3 stars instead of 4.

However, I am excited to see what comes next and to see how Luke deals with his newly found memories that put him in quite a pickle! Be warned that while there is a natural ending to this piece, it is written in a serial format where you will want to read what happens in the next volume!

4 Hard Hit to the Head Stars

Those hard hits to the head? Yeah, Luke gets them and so did I. I hit my head hard with my Kindle when the book ended.....with a freaking cliffhanger. So not happy.

Luke doesn't know how he is or how he got out in the desert bruised, bloody and alone.

Angel finds Luke and brings him back home. Home being a MC Club compound where there are dangerous men including her father.

I don't do spoilers, but just know that I was not happy with the ending. I liked the book. I really like some of the authors other books, but the ending made me mad. Now I have to wait. I wish I hadn't read it until the next book was out.

Well, that was unexpected. I one-clicked RAIN SHADOW based on a random Facebook post and am so glad I did! Love the world building - incredibly unique twist on the MC premise. The only thing I'm bummed about is apparently this story is going to be strung out over 5 or so installments (according to another reviewer on Goodreads; I have not independently confirmed this). I'd love to have the entire thing now! But I can say I'll definitely be picking up the next one when it's available.

I was provided with an ARC for an honest review so here goes.....

Oh, before you ask *wags finger* No Spoilers From Me !
You need to read this book. Its that good !

This is book 1 of 5, and before you ask....no although it does end on a "cliffhanger" you truley don't feel the need to throw your Kindle at the wall crying "Oh for god sake, how long do I have to wait for the next book ?". Nope, non of that here thanks to Tess.

Our story involves Evangeline "Angel" and Reno but I am not telling you his actual name *grins*.

It begins with Reno being found in the middle of nowhere with amnesia by Angel after being dumped. He's nearly at death's door, so Angel takes it upon herself to offer aid to this stranger.

Angel lives in an MC compund in this middle of nowhere, lets just say there are some very colourful characters also living at the compound with her. Angle's grandfather runs the show and to say he is an hardarse is putting it mildly !!.

The story progresses where Reno & Angle grow close whilst she not only cares for him, but becomes his friend.
Reno's memory remains a mystery for quite a bit in the book and you do not feel any moments of "come on for god sake, remember already !". As a reader its quite enjoyable as you spend time whilst reading trying to do your own mental detective work so you can shout when the reveal comes "Ah ha I knew it !".

The story is written from duel POV, which I personally LOVE.
For me seeing the thoughts from both parties adds to the understanding of where the character are coming from within the story.

Angel as a character is absolutley hillarious, she is strong but has such ingrained kindness that seems so at odds with having to grow up within a harsh MC compound, thats ruled by tyranny.
Tess makes the intergration of Angel as a character within her surroundings really work. You get whilst reading Angel's POV to understand her hopes and dreams and understand so much more about her. This insight into Angel just adds to her awesomeness !!

Reno *sigh, drool, swoon* where to begin ?. Reno as a character for me althought very vulnerable at the begining of the book, he exudes a core strength and he does not come across on the pages as a macho a*sehole. He is a man of inner strenght, a survivor. He too has quite a bit of humour and his determination to win and make Angel his made me purr to my kindle. God damn Alpha Beauty....
You sooo want to know his story, what happened ?, why carn't he remember ?, what's he going to do now ?.....

Back on track Donna.
The story did not feel like a long read, nor before you grumble that the book will be over as soon as you start it.
I too am not a huge fan of Uber quick reads. They always leave me wanting more....
Tess has nailed it for me, you read just enough in this book to pump up your adrenaline levels. You literally morph into Sherlock Holmes trying to figure everything out. I sat there with so many emotions flying through me from grinning to swooning to saying f**k no at certain parts to exuding a little gasp at the end !!.

The book left me satisfied but definitely wanting more.......Need more !!!

I give this book a solid 5 Stars. And I am not in anyway a reading who distributes her stars ad hoc. These are well deserved.

I would recommend this book to any reader who likes romance, mystery, MC books and Alpha Male characters (because oh baby there are a few more in here Jericho....rarr).

So get your copy asap.

Thanks for the opportunity Tess. I am sooooo ready when you are for book 2 :0) xx

Rain Shadow Book 1

This book took off like a firecracker right from the beginning. Her words allow you to picture in your mind where the man is and how he gets rescued by an Angel. When she asks his name, he can’t remember it, in fact he can’t remember anything.

When she sees how badly he is injured, Angel (Evie) realized while she isn’t a doctor, she is the one who can treat him the best. That means she has to also take the risk of returning with him to the compound she lives in. The compound that is run by her Grandfather, Dreygon, President of the well known Bedlam Motorcycle Club. From the beginning Reno (his new name) is not liked by anyone, but Angel tries to work around that, going against everything she knows. She is even willing to take a chance with him. But will she want to continue in this relationship when he finally reveals that more of his memory has returned? That he now knows who he is really working for?

Well, I've just found my next series. I'm a big fan of Jamie McGuire's Beautiful Disaster series and Fifty Shades of Grey. I've read several similar books looking for one that grabs me and this is the first one to do that in a long time. I've just read the whole book in one sitting (it's only 155 pages long so an easy feat) and am downloading the rest of the series right now.
The characters are all likeable, there's some good steamy scenes in there and a bit of a mystery/thriller as the main character has amnesia so you're always guessing at who he is and where he's come from.
Can't wait to read the rest and can't see much getting done until I'm finished!

I received this ARC for an honest review.

WOW! I know others have said the same thing, but this was a good, no it was GREAT book! I loved the characters, the way Tess gave you bits and pieces of their history so you can love them, hate them or just keep trying to figure them out. It has romance, secrets, fights and it ended just right, making you hungry for the next book and the next twists and turns. Can't wait till the next one!

What a read, Tess Oliver writes with her heart and soul. Creating...raw, gritty characters that are so real. This story is not your typical sweet romance, not at all
so be prepared for an emotional look at the ugly and insane side of life...that this author excels at bringing to life!! Can't wait for the next book, she never disappoints. *I received this book for an honest review**

4.5 stars!! What an unexpected treat. It was free on Amazon and I picked it up purely because of the name of the book "Rain Shadow" - what a great name. The H/h in the book are likeable, the pace of the story was spot on, and the mystery wasn't too obvious for me, it actually surprised me when the hero's true identity was revealed. Definitely will go on to book 2...

This was a very quick read ( only about 125 pages).

Luke is uncertain how he ended up passed out in the dessert but his "Angel" finds him and brings him to the MC club that her dad runs. (I also had an OMG moment while reading this. I just finished books that had extended story of each Barringer brother.. swoon) There are many hidden surprises that lie within Luke but when they are revealed Angel has some really hard decisions to be made.

Onto installment number two.

Biker series - 1st book in series.

Kindle Unlimited cliffhanger. When she finds a beaten almost dead man in the desert, she brings him back into the compound she lives in. Has she saved him or doomed him? He doesn't remember who he is.... attraction, bikers, lots of twists and in depth characters.

A good read

A good read. Story-line was solid and made me want to see how it would turn out. That cliff-hanger though was really good. Not sure about reading the others in the series though, kinda see how it will end. How the author would have taken us there would have been interesting to see.
