Bianca knows darkness, she knows what it feels like to be broken down and destroyed. She knows death, she has tasted it and it no longer scares her.
After attempting to take her life, Bianca is moved to a mental health facility in order to heal. She believes it's more that her mum just can't be bothered to look after her. At the facility she meets Bodhi, Gideon, Fisher, Silas and Taryn who become not only her best friends but the key to her healing.
When the man she thought she would never see again, suddenly appears in her life, Bianca learns that her friends are more than just friends, they are family.
This has some major triggers including, suicide, self harm, rape and derogatory language. Not suitable for anyone under the age of 17... Asylum is a Reverse Harem book, meaning that Bianca gets it on with more than one boy at a time. It also includes twins.. not getting it on! As well as some mild M/M scenes. Okay I've finished my warning.
Sammy King born in 1976 in Melbourne Victoria, to a beautiful couple Dot and John.
Raised in Melbourne with her younger sister Karen and her two younger brothers Joel and Jack, she has lived over most of Victoria. Sammy is now married to David with three teenage sons Shannon, Samuel and Peter and her two fur babies Emma and Raven.
Sammy has been writing for most of her life, her very first story to ever be published was a little story in the newspaper when she was still in primary school. She had a wild imagination and could talk the leg off an iron pot. As she grew her stories grew with her, starting off by telling the tales of her family and friends to drawing on the emotions and vibrations that she felt the world give off.
Her stories aren't about particular people, but they are real none the less, real emotions, real people and real stories, they touch people whether that is to make them fall in love, hate or grieve, Sammy always aims her stories make you feel something.
Theres alot of serious triggering subjects being dealt with so while it was uncomfortable to read i could skim over the portions but the how it was written and the fact that i couldnt connect to any of the characters. With one bad thing after the other happening and the fact relationships were build within 2 days of arriving at the facility and how everything progressed from there, i couldnt take it anymore.l sadly
This book deals with a lot of heavy trauma in the beginning. Sexual abuse, physical abuse, and suicide. It's not easy to read at times. However, there is healing and growth which I loved. It actually is the majority of the story at the end and nice to read. I wish there was more actually of these characters. I loved the twins and thought Bodhi was just precious. There are some steamy scenes as well. It mentions some mm, but there really isn't any. There is some talking about things but it's not ever in the scene. Give it a read.
I had put off this book for a little while because the blurb didn't make me super interested. But I am glad that I finally read it in a moment of just really needing a book to read. There were some small issues but really it was a good book for me, a little rushed but not too bad. And it didn't leave me wanting to know what happens next.
TRIGGER WARNING! (Read story blurb and warnings before reading please)
NA. Contemporary Romance. Rh. 3 guys. Medium Burn. Mental Institution setting. HEA. Standalone. I like this story. The rh relationship was easy, which I think was really nice after the heart wrenching drama that occurred.
Trigger warning! This sorry broke my heart and slowly put it back. The MC is a strong girl to go through all she did and come out amazing. And the boys she falls for. Amazing! That twist with Silas I didn’t see coming, but loved it.
I usually don't write reviews but I just had to on this one. Besides lack of punctuation, the story line was so far fetched that it was completely unbelievable. It was just not very good.
There were aspects that I really liked and some that frustrated the heck out of me. This author definitely has potential and this was a more positive than negative experience.
What I Liked: The overall feeling of acceptance, love, choosing your family and hope was great. When I finished reading, I was left with happy feelings. The good characters. There were a lot of wonderful characters in this book. Though I didn't feel I knew all of them well, they were all distinct and and had their own voice. The storyline. I am a sucker for the heroine that has had a mostly horrific life finding love and happiness.
What I Didn't Like: The reason that I am not a big fan of contemporary RH is that typically the relationship and feelings happen too fast and the acceptance of an alternative relationship is too easy. This book suffered from both. With their ages and backstories, I wasn't as bothered by the insta-love with two of the harem but there wasn't any reason or rationale provided that would explain why this group would easily accept this arrangement. If there isn't going to be a realistic reaction to this idea I need to a least be told why in order to get some satisfaction from the romance. This ties in with my first dislike. The heroine is attracted to all four boys, understandable. As having been a 17 year old girl at one time I can relate. She seems to have a closer connection with Bodhi which was set up well. After they discuss their attraction, he asks her about her feelings for the others and mentions they all want to share. Now the twins I could maybe understand but the other two guys met the twins 5 or 6 months prior. So the heroine proceeds to try and get closer to the guys and eventually asks the other 2 to be her boyfriend. They both say yes. When one of them later confesses to not being heterosexual the h is totally fine. I loved that she accepted everyone, that was not my issue. The whole will you be my boyfriend then not having any strong feelings about it ending diminished my belief that the relationship with the others would last. This made her seem fickle and like one who would easily fall in and out of love (not that there was love expressed with this character). It bothered me which I hate because for the most part I really like both the heroine and male character. I just wish she had stronger feelings to help sell the relationship with the others. There were some little things that on their own wouldn't have been a big deal but they did pull me from the story. One, the h mentioned that she had never seen a..... I'll call it a male member in an effort to not offend. The issue with this is that the catalyst for her attempted suicide had been an assault by two men where one had masturbated then ejaculated on her and the other had repeatedly smacked her face with his. Now, I can fully imagine that she had her eyes closed for some possibly even most of the assault but from how she thought about or talked about the assault it sounded like she had to have seen the equipment. Two, it is mentioned that in her room at the facility she had a single bed. At one point there were four people in this bed.....I imagine they were stacked like planks of wood since there is no way for four people to fit on a single.
There were some typos and grammatical errors but not enough to keep me from reading.
Overall, as mentioned above, the positives outweighed the negatives. I think most would disagree with my dislikes and even find many of them petty. I will definitely be on the lookout for future works by this author.
There was some major darkness in this book, I felt my heart being ripped out, and I cried quite a few tears, but that ending gave me all the feels!! I loved it
This book has an interesting idea behind it's plot which I haven't seen done too many times and it was this that originally grabbed my attention. points definitely go to Sammy King for taking 'taboo' subjects and handling them in a sensitive manner. The book started off very well and I was thinking wow this book could be amazing and it certainly had the potential to be. Sammy king writes well and although I could often predict where the story was going I still enjoyed it one the whole. However
**Spoilers**
there were a few bits in the plot which didn't quite add up, a few times where something was a major 'feels' moment but then didn't match with things that had occurred previously. These inconsistencies at what i felt were crucial points for the FMC spoilt my enjoyment slightly which is why I've reviewed as 3* in the end. Over all I feel this book is still worth a read but doesn't make it into my favourites list.
I really enjoyed this book. The characters were interesting and plot intriguing. There were humorous moments, frightening ones, and passionate times. There were some editing mistakes and sentences that were structured wrong or made no sense but otherwise it was a good story.
Nice story but kind of unbelievable *possible spoilers*
First off, I have a hard time with any book that has poor editing. I dont know if this is self published or not but the poor grammar and use of incorrect words made it hard to get through.
What I had the hardest time with though was I didnt believe the characters. The MC was abused, bullied and sexually assaulted in her past and suddenly she can stand up for herself and tell her story to complete strangers. I don't find that believable. The men have all been in the facility for 6 plus months and then she shows up and they all get released at the same time. I dont know if this is a British thing but there would be better discharge planning.
Then there is the staff basically encouraging them all to be sexually active. I cant image a scenario where they would allow male patients be blatantly sexual with a female patient with a very recent sexual assault.
I also was hoping for it to be a little darker. I'm not saying there weren't dark themes and several of the characters are suicide survivors but it just seemed like all the characters meet and suddenly they are all happy again. There was no struggle with the mental health. I've read books with lighter themes that better described the struggle with depression.
Overall, I thought this book would be better and was disappointed that it missed the mark.
What the f*** did I just read? This story is unbelievably ridiculous. It covers some tough topics which when done well can make a story but here it's glorified and sometimes laughable and then shoved into a reverse harem to make it mental illness and being institutionalized seem desirable. Coupled with the grammatical errors and plot holes - well it appears some people don't mind. After researching, I found numerous books by this author (with sub-par covers) which has me thinking she's a quantity over quality author. Shame. It could have been a good story had the author done some research and used an editor.
Plot lines was interesting. And the backstory was heartbreaking. And there is lots of dark themes. Rape and sexual assault and child sexual abuse and talk of suicide.
I thought this would have been different. Bianca trying to commit suicide and ending up in a mental facility. Where she meets her guys who become more than just hers but family. I so wanted to like this but it was annoying to read a third person book! I finished it because I liked the characters I just feel like this was really poor executed!
OMG. This whole book is so completely unbelievable and far-fetched from the characters, the things that has happened and does happen to them and just the whole story setting. If i could give it zero stars i would. It’s like the author thought that the more bad things she could throw into the story the more action the book would have. Save yourselves the trouble and don’t read the book.
I liked the storyline and the open dialogue between the characters. The subject matter was intense but was treated with respect. I look forward to reading more
