They learned the rules, then broke them to survive. One month after a crippling attack on the power grid, the country is still in darkness. As a new wave of violence sweeps the nation, the Ford family are soon drawn into a battle for survival with an unknown menace. Tasked with stopping the threat to protect the small town of Whitefish, Montana, Corey soon discovers a traitor is among them. Unsure of who to trust, tempers flare and accusations threaten to tear the remaining survivors apart. But when Tyler emerges after three weeks away with hope in the form of a mysterious ally, Corey and his brother are forced to undertake a dangerous mission. What would you risk to save your community? After Andy Ford tells his son the truth, a weight lifts from his shoulders, but the relief is short-lived as the result places a target on their backs. In order to defend what remains, he returns to Camp Olney to face Jude Lawson and the incident that destroyed their friendship. But when events take an unexpected turn and the situation spirals out of control, friendships will be tested, loyalties broken and a terrifying twist revealed. Will anyone survive? In a post-apocalyptic nightmare, all bets are off as alliances form, trust breaks, and the strong struggle to survive. Will the mission be a success or will it strip away what little humanity remains? Rules of Darkness is book three in Survival Rules, a post-apocalyptic EMP thriller series that follows the Ford family and their community as they fight to survive after an EMP destroys the nation’s power grid.

ACTION PACKED. FULL OF MYSTERY AND SUSPENSE.

Rules of Darkness: A Post-Apocalyptic EMP Survival Thriller (Survival Rules Series Book 3) by Jack Hunt is a well written story of a group trying to survive the aftermath of an EMP event that brought down the power grid and opened the way for those who pray on those who can't defend themselves.

The characters are clearly defined, and you will find yourself routing for the town of Whitefish, Montana, the Ford family, and the townsfolk as they band together to survive the hellish nightmare they find themselves in.

The worst part is that they don't know who they can trust. With family, friends, and their fellow community, the lies of their past and those current, everywhere the Ford family (Andy, Corey, and Tyler) and their friends turn they are thrown into a new life and death situation. It's truly mind-blowing how many twists and turns are just a page away.

This being the first series (3rd book so far) in which I have read that Jack Hunt has written, I am hooked on his works. I hope you, too, will enjoy reading this book and series.

Quotes:
"No one, no matter how prepared, was incapable of falling prey to nature's terrain."

"Religion used fear. Politics used propaganda. And the sex industry used porn to sucker in the desperate, gullible and needy. All they needed to do was wave a carrot out on a stick and there would always be ones who would chase after it, and justify their actions later."

Twists and turns

Definitely didn't see some of the things coming in this book The series gets better and better. ****SPOILER ALERT**** There are somethings that happen in the middle of the book that I find not only unbelievable but also deplorable. While I'm sure there are instances where a man or a woman would debase themselves for a sibling, the promise of just getting to see them is not one of the reasons I would expect.

That ending! Damn you Jack Hunt! I seriously thought this was going to be a trilogy I now know I am wrong about that. Did NOT see that coming!
Miles does a great job of narrating. Glad to have a new favorite narrator in this genre.
I’m ready for book 4!

I was voluntarily provided this review copy at no charge by the author, publisher and or narrator.

Good

Interesting storyline that kept quite entertained with action, intriguing characters. After the lights go out Tyler and his friends had traveled back to his home in Montana only to find more trouble. Surprise ending and more to come.

Holds your interest

I've read the 3 books in the series, and waiting for the next one. I like how he fleshes out the characters making them the flawed humans we would be in this type of scenario. Realistic problems and issues are covered, though a little far out, or even unlikely in some instances, ie: several highly trained ex-military friends near by, and a large organized group of peppers already there. Still, interesting, knowledgeable about weaponry and other information, exciting action and human interest, all things that make you want to find out more, if you enjoy dystopian possibilities as I do.

Well, well, well. My attention was wandering because, for a bit of the book, there was not a lot of action but a lot of set-up for "something." That in addition to the fact that the convicts have seemingly gone away (which I think is good), though there are plenty of sinister and mysterious people. Then, the end is very, very exciting with a huge cliffhanger. I also like that the mostly one-dimensional Andy gets a little bit of fleshing out. Now I have to wait for the next book to find out what happens.

Truly a gifted writer

I loved this book! I literally couldn't out it down. I read at home in the morning, at work in between prospects and phone calls. After work and at bed time. I was so disappointed I finished it. It is honestly a page turner. Can't wait to start the 4th in the series.

Corey and Tyler, Andy and Jude. There is more political maneuvering and back-stabbing going on here than the White House Oval Office. Tyler finally finds out the truth. The community of Whitefish is in the middle of a tug of war between the raiders, Jude, and the citizens themselves. There is always the power struggle where one man or group of men desire to rule over all. How does Camp Olney fit in, and what about Morning Star? Who is Morning Star? Another Amazing Read

When I started with the first volume of the series I struggled to get into it because it jumped around a lot trying to bring in various sets of characters. I read Jack Hunt religiously though so I got right on the next book, and then this one. I’m so glad I did. By the end of book two he had set the hook and I was full6 entranced in the story. There is so much good I could say but I can’t wait to start on the next volume so it’ll have to wait!!! :)

This can happen!

I have read a number of books dealing with post EMP events and this story is spot on, therefore the rating. I always learn something from reading books in this genre. Hope we never have put them to use. Better safe and prepared than not. Super read. Looking forward to next installment.

I found this author on kindle unlimited. I’m glad I did. I enjoy post apocalyptic books. This author draws you in and keeps you glued to the pages. I like how the author writes the characters as capable and humans with flaws at the same time.
The tension between Tyler and his family, Jude and Andy, had me turning pages.

Jack Hunt definitely earns 5 stars for this story. I believe men and women of any age will enjoy this series. Jack Hunt has made very interesting characters with a scary scenario. Let's just hope we never have to endure an EMP disaster.

Lots of action and a surprise ending!

Surviving has gotten much harder seems after the blackout. No one can be trusted. Good spoken intentions are not enough.
All that harsh training Andy provided has saved them over and over.

Great read

The series started a little slow but it has gotten my attention...big time. This is showing real promise. I'm trying to limit myself to one book a day. Not having good luck.

Didn't see that coming

That was a total surprise. You have to read this book to know what I mean. The action here is beyond fantastic. On to book 4. I have to make myself slow down. I have chill bumps.

Improvement over last book

Characters are starting to be more developed plus there are surprises along the way. If he keeps going at this level he might find himself in four star territory!

I received a review copy of this audiobook.

This is my least favorite book in this series so far. It has a number of apparent internal contradictions and the dialog and narration are less compelling than in the previous two books. I still enjoyed it, but not as much.

Good read

Felt the third book in the series was not as well written as the first two. The writing seemed to be a little confusing toward the conclusion of the book. A great ending however.

Who can you trust?

Old comrades at odds, add in some raiders, a possible love interest and challenge them with younger brothers-in-arms, now you have a volatile situation. Top it off with an ultimate deceit...

This series has been captivating from book one! The characters are good. There were some slow spots involving Nate but otherwise and amazing story. And holy shit! I didn’t see that ending coming! Gotta dive into the next book!

Twists, turns, betrayals and a shocking ending

This book dealt with the different groups of survivors and how they interacted with one another. Deceit and betrayals run rampant. The end is shocking. Let's hope book 4 explains everything.
