The first book is about two men competing to fuck an abuse victim they neither like or respect. Meanwhile, there's a lot of criticizing, manipulating and whining- especially that the Mary Sue everyone loves didn't get a dragon, even though she is So Much Better than the abuse victim (at the same time as being a complete nonentity in the plot). The cast were no happier riding dragons than they would have been hoeing a farm somewhere, and that is a failure of a fantasy novel.

The complexity and characters were excellent. It was very interesting to read the author's take on how Pern's society could change. Loved these books!
