Half vampire, half werewolf, 100% hot mess.

That's been my life ever since I came to the Lodge, and with an army of undead hunters on my tail, it's only getting more complicated from here.

Throw in the fact that not one but two alpha shifters imprinted on me and I'm split right down the middle. Oh, and did I mention they're twins?

Yeah. Surviving the hunters and my traitorous BFF is becoming the least of my worries. If I can't figure out which brother my heart belongs to, I'm not even going to survive my first shift.

This is the second book in the Kingdom of Night series. It cannot be read as a standalone and ends on a cliffhanger. See inside cover for content warnings.

2.5 Stars. Okay, so I'm struggling a little bit with this one. These books so far have felt different than the other JA books. The writing feels less cohesive and the decisions that these guys make baffle me.

In this book, we go the complete opposite direction in the Remus/Victor/Sebastian area. I'm able to copy and paste from my review of the first book: In this one the biggest problem is that the balance between liking and hating Sebastian Victor is skewed too much toward the reader hating him at this point. It makes it easier to understand the attraction between Remus and Victor Sebastian and really wanting to ring Uhlric's neck. In a m/m/m it's rarely good to be rooting for two out of the three to get together. I think it's getting clearer that this is going to be S/R/V situation in the end since Sebastian and Victor are twins. It's not going to be a pure M/M/M.

I've invested this much time in the two books but I have issues with the TSTL and utter betrayal that I'm not sure how much more benefit of the doubt I'll be able to extend in the third book.

I do want to see how it ends but I'm not above skimming if the fuckery keeps happening and Remus keeps getting mentally abused over and over again.

3.5⭐'s Huh, not exactly sure how to put my words and thoughts together on my feelings for this book but it just seems nothing much got accomplished from the last book but a whole lot of drama and deception surrounding poor Remus. At this point I almost want him to walk away and say the hell with the wolf pack and good riddance to both Sebastian and especially Victor!
At the end of Pendulum I was team Victor 🤗 but since then I have totally changed my mind and feel he doesn't deserve Remus or to be the new alpha. He was cold and not approachable and his idea of love was to forcibly brainwash, take away Remus's free will and manipulate him! 🤬
If Victor becomes alpha wouldn't he do that to any member who didn't agree with him!?!?
To make matters worse shouldn't Ulric as Remus's father protect him and have his back!?!? All the close people in Remus life knew of Victors abuse and didn't say a damn word, the member Clarence that gave Remus space because of his vampire side was the member that had the biggest problem with Victors brainwashing of Remus. 🤔 I would think that with Remus being the prince that was suppose to help save the paranormals from the hunters would get a little more respect from everyone that was deceiving him! As you can see I'm still mad as hell 😡 on Remuss behalf, it definitely got my blood going 🤣. On to the third book and I hope there are some changes and Remus gets a hea 🥰

Wow

This series has just knocked me out. I thought that Remus was such a strong character who keeps getting handed a pile of crap and then rises above it.

I think that Sebastian and Victor both need smacked hard at different times for different reasons.

Still not ready to review but so far this seems like it wasn’t necessary. As though everything could easily fit in two books rather than being stretched endlessly

EDIT:
Still believe this book did not need to exist after reading book 3.
Book 1 --> Book 3 sufficient imo

I found that there were a bit more holes in the plot with this one. I found myself wondering how feelings could change so fast for the characters and wanting to know more about how they had come to make the decisions they did. The story itself was nevertheless entertaining. I thought the revelation about Victor at the end was odd but I guess it builds character. I still enjoyed the story and look forward to the finale. 3.5 stars!

Frustrating to say the least. So little happening in so many pages... The same old intrigue with Remus caught between Victor and Sebastian goes on and on and there were times when all I wanted to do was reach inside the book and slap some sense into the characters.
However, throughout the book, I loved Sebastian more and more. He's kind, way more clever that the others give him credit for and he's the only one protecting (or rather genuinely trying to protect) Remus from all the non-sense and the mind-fuck going on otherwise. Speaking of which, I despised Victor more and more : he's an egoistic, manipulative whiny werewolf and he seemingly can't stop but worsening things for Remus. Remus whom I would have really liked to shake until his brain would finally connect two neurons and come up with something different from "I love Victor and I'm gonna let him drag me into a weird-ass BDSM relationships that just makes the readers cringe".

Thankfully Joel Abernath's writing style (almost) makes up for all what's going on and I eagerly read this 2nd tome till the end. I know I'm waiting for book 3.

Painfully stupid characters and disgusting behavior

I really liked the first book and I was willing to overlook the stupidness of some of the characters because it furthered the plot. Not anymore since they still haven’t figured out the basic stuff in this book. It’s common sense that since both brothers see the same boy in their vision of their mate that they are meant to share a mate. When Remus meets Ulric and is mistaken for his past lover Sarah, since Remus is literally a carbon copy of her in looks. It’s like duh this is your son. But no he doesn’t get it. Then the legend which states that wolves have mates that are literally the other half of their heart and vampires have a mate that they basically obsess over. Then there’s the revelation that Remus is a hybrid. Which would have been discovered so much further back. But stupid idiot Ulric. So it’s like duh, he’s a hybrid and he has two mates. Obviously Seb is his werewolf half mate and Vic is the vampire half mate. But no. Stupid idiots are still fighting because they don’t see what even a child could have understood. Vic is supposed to be a genius. Vic gets captured by Sarah after his hairbrained plan stemming from a tantrum. Blah blah blah. Vampire awakening. Seb hates Remus. Now this book. Seb now runs off after a temper tantrum boohoo woe is me. He does this after promising to wait for Remus to say goodbye. Meanwhile a hunter infiltrated the Lodge threatening to kill everyone close to Remus. Seb has run off before anyone can warn him. Blah blah Remus has a friend and a roommate he believes are also are in danger. Side character Brendan has a mysterious boyfriend we never meet except for an obscure encounter where Remus sees a guy on campus driving his car. Clarence the asshole is too blind to see that Hunter/Heather is his mate because Hunter is a trans man. Remus runs off to track down his friend Arthur only to learn he’s a hunter. This whole series has a light BDSM flavor since the Lodge is a sex club. What really was disgusting was when Remus has this pitiful epiphany with the help of Clarence that he is a danger to the Pack and Vic’s fragile masculinity. So he agrees to be mind controlled into never being allowed to leave the Lodge and have babysitters. I had to stop. BDSM is about a mutual respect and control. Remus is basically treated like a glass flower unless it’s convenient to hurt him or control him. I really think this series needs a rewrite and possibly to see other POV instead of always just Remus. I feel like we miss a lot of background behind the scenes stuff because we are only allowed to see the experiences of Remus.

Ahh and the plot thickens.
And by thickens I mean has suddenly turned into the worst kind of potatos and gravy. Sloppy, dry, and salted as hell.

Remus is probably the worst person ever hear. He is, by all accounts, a wet doormat. He does things that I am happy for but then he curls up in a ball as soon as someone gets all huffy with him. He should not feel bad about nearly every action he takes within this series because for the most part, he is the only person that has understandable feelings and intentions. Everyone waits until the last moment to tell him anything. They are over protective ine mintue and downright abusive the next with the constant manipulation. The twins keep going back and forth on who is going to be the ahole of the day and who is going to run away. Neither one of them is truly deserving of Remus but yet he is the one that no one trust. None of his insecurities make any sense other then to prove to us readers what a damsel he is despite us clearly seeing that he is ok. He holds his own against so many obsticles and if people would just let him be himself they wouldn't have as many problems as they do. Everything bad happens because someone, mainly the twins, takig matters into their hands instead of just trusting the guy who they say is their mate.

That being said we barely see him interact with half of these people yet we are expected to care for them.

This story is a good one. The writing is pretty decent but what stops it from bring great is that fact that we are forced to repeat the same crap over and over again. It stopped being fun in the last book. At this point I just want everyone to end up alone and for Remus to run the pack. Because while he has the observation skills of a rock he does care about everyone and puts others happiness before his. Something that his father has been shown to do himself. It isn't like we have seen all that many displays of strength from anyone outside of the twins fighting themselves. So really he could lead the pack and just have them as body guards with no problem. But no..he is a delicate flower and must be protected at all cost even though he has the highest kill count we have read thus far (Seb doesn't count because are never told how many people he has killed we can just assume it is alot. We only know of one person he has killed)

So Remus became a vampire becuse he walled of his werewolf side, thus his emotions as well. The reader has to be remided to the fact that he has no feelings every 5 seconds. And it is realistic, that the reader has to be reminded, otherwise they would forget this because of ALL THE FUCKING EMOTIONS Remus is having.

Also Remus ran away from his abusive and controlling ex-boyfriend, broke up with the guy who let him do anything he wanted as long as Remus let him be close, and got together with the other guy who tells him what he can and can't do, where he can and can't go. But that's okay, it's not the same. It is also okay that now that his father found out about him, he can tell him who he has to marry. And Remus has no choice in the matter. Because that's tradition and you just don't mess with tradition. Nobody cares what gender you are, because werewolf are really that progressive, but what kind of werewolf you were born as, yeah, that will determine your life. Because that is also tradition. They are so fucking progressive, that they bring back the 1920s to life, just not based on human gender but based on a werewolf thingie...

Nope, just nope. This kind of chauvinistic, archaic worldview has no place in a gay romance. Even if it has nothing to do with human gender, if you replace it with werewolf mojo, the problem still stands. People are forced into roles they are born into, not letting them choose for themselves is not something I want to read about. Most of all, I don't want my main character, who supposedly has no feelings and grew a backbone to just say, okay, well, if it's tradition, then okay, I can't have say.

[I received an arc for an honest review]

"The person you loved the most was also the person capable of causing the most pain."
Liminality is the second book in the Kingdom of Night trilogy by Joel Abernathy. This book picks up where the first left off so reading the first book Pendulum is a must.

"There's only one of you, no matter how much you change or what you suppress. Werewolve, vampire, human, it's all the same soul."

As with the first book the writing continued to be everything I expected from an Abernathy story. Unlike the first book there aren't as many big questions or secrets because a lot of details are now out in the open. This installment primarily focuses on Remus' personal growth his journey to being his true self. I felt he grew as a character overall but I still found him to be a bit naive and whiny at times, especially when it came to his legit 'life changing' love triangle he has found himself in. It was getting to frustrating when he was completely writing off his feelings for one brother to focus on the other. I actually really appreciate when he is given the opportunity to pretty much start from scratch and explore his feelings for both. [#teamS]

"What I do have is patience, and Remus Cole, I'm gonna wait for you until the end of time."
Like the first, Liminality ends on a cliffhanger. Time is running out and Remus needs to make a decision before the family and world he has finally found falls apart.

OH.MY.GOD i don't know what to say. I hate it in the beginning and then I feel so shocked about how well the story went but then I hate it again in the end. Im just starting to feel so happy with how things started to work between Ramus and Victor but then suddenly Im feeling that disappointment again.

I hate it and I really hate it how selfish Victor and Sebastian are. They just make everything hard to Ramus and Im so AKSJKDJSHHDJSUWSSHDJD

3/5 stars because after all the storyline was still interesting. But now Im starting to questioning my decision to finish the series considering how shitty the twin are.

You’d think I’d be jealous of Remus having twin brothers fighting for him, but nope lol. At this point I don’t know if it’s good for him to be with either of the twins.

I feel like I have whiplash from drastically changing how I feel about Sebastian and Victor. When the book started I hated Sebastian and I loved Victor, and then I hated Victor and loved Sebastian. Now I’m just over all conflicted lol.

I honestly have no idea how all of this is going to end, and who Remus is going to choose to be his mate, but I hope it ends well.

This is the second book in the Kingdom of Night series .

What can I say about this book a rollercoaster ride for sure so many twist and turns but as usual Victor and Remus my least favorites if at all . I have serious problems with both of these characters I'll start with Remus I get that Remus has had a SHITTY life Lord knows I get it but I just can't connect with him as a character . He's like your typical abused omega with a few special gimmicks thrown in for good measure . Remus's character is all over the place now don't get me wrong I know that Remus is new to the supernatural world and has just found out that he's been horribly used by his Ex and his Ex's family/friends of the family . And that's enough to send anybody to a state institution plus having his mind *cked with all these years by said family is going to mess up the most stable person which Remus isn't one of those . Than poor Remus finds out that he's mated to twin werewolf brother's and has to pick one although he barely knows either one well enough to want to spend the rest of his life with . I really want to like Remus but I'm not getting the same impact that I usually get from this authors characters . As for Victor we have found out quite a lot about him and not all of it good He's another character that I just don't like I know that some reader's will say he's sacrificed so much for his brother and yeah he has I'm not taking that away from him . But Victor is also sneaky and conniving and manipulative yeah he's been through some stuff and maybe he doesn't handle things the way he should but he loves Remus and his brother and yeah I believe that . But let's face it Victors love is twisted as *uck I don't trust him than there's Arthur I'm not sure what to make of him I smell trap but not and Alex WHY something bad is definitely gonna happen I just know it .

Howlin' Good! 🐺

What the world?!?! Nooooo!!!! That ending! Joel, baby just no! 😱 Thank the Goddess the next book is out already or I would be pulling all my hair out! Can't bite my nails... Lost all those suckers by chapter four. Sheesh!

I will say, in the first book, Pendulum I stayed completely frustrated with Remus for probably about 70% of the story. My frustration with all three of the guys flipped back and forth so many times in book one, I nearly had whiplash.

This go round in book two, Liminality, the frustrations were still there, though not as severe. I was so glad to see that Remus was doing his best with so many different situations being flung at him and things changing so drastically, often with little to no warning. Embracing his dual-sides, his place in the pack (present & future), along with those temperamental wolfie twins, Sebastian and Viktor, I felt Remus had grown as a character. I liked watching that and hope it carries over to book three.

This series is right up there with the best of the best, to me. The Story line is imaginative, funny, action packed, gruesome, and filled with delectable MM sexy goodness.

Can't wait to sink my teeth into book three! 😍

The continuation from “Pendulum: Kingdom of Night #1” into this book “Liminality: Kingdom of Night #2” is flawless & excellent. I was completely enthralled by this dark & devious MMM vampire/shifter romance, it certainly caught my attention & kept it until the last page was turned. It has a well-paced story-line & plot filled with unexpected occurrences & events. The characters are unique with complex personalities, some of the characters displayed determination combined with some deviousness to get their goals, while another character continues to struggle with acceptance in a new & unfamiliar world of shifters.
There is: wolf shifters, vampires, a hybrid vampire/wolf shifter, fated mates, twists & turns, intrigue, suspense, action, emotional turmoil, secrets, mystery, deception, danger, threats, enemies, violence, conflict, misunderstandings, doubts, manipulations, confrontations, complications, memories, anguish, decisions, paranoia & an interesting epilogue. Sadly this book does end with a cliffhanger & I will be waiting with great anticipation for the next book from this talented author.

*I voluntarily read this book. All opinions stated are solely my own and no one else's*

This is the second book in the Kingdom of Night Series. This is not a standalone therefore, I would strongly advise you to read book 1 prior to reading this one.

Victor and Sebastian are two parts of the same soul yet is only one destined to be Remus’s mate?

Vic and Seb did my head in - these two guys were annoying on a whole new level. Seb has finally got his head on straight whereas, Victor crosses a line which sets various things into motion. Has Victor gone too far?

Victor surprised me a few times and not in good ways either. Victor goes overboard and his actions could cost him everything.

I felt sorry for Remus - both alphas are stubborn and they both take it in turns to screw things up for themselves and Remus.

The story dragged on in the first half but the pace definitely picked up in the second half. The twists and turns continue, keeping you guessing and wondering. I look forward to reading book 3 to see how things turn out for the trio.

Liminality is the second installment in the "Kingdom of Night" series and it was as amazing as the first one, Pendulum. Remus, a hybrid werewolf/vampire, must not only come to terms with who he is as an individual, but also what he means to his pack and their world. And to make things even more difficult, he has been marked as a fated mate by both Victor and Sebastian, twin brothers. Whoever he will choose will also become the Alpha of the pack. The author has done an incredible job not only developing the individual characters, but also the back story, secondary characters (although they are anything but secondary) and legends. It is a richly drawn world with characters who make you love and hate them, tender moments as well as those that make you want to pull your hair out, the right amount of intrigue to move the story along nicely and of course the question, who will Remus choose as his mate? I cannot wait to read the third installment. These books will be on my "to-be-read-again" for sure.

4.5 🌟rounded up

This book was a bit of a mind f- trip. Not only is Remus faced with an untenable situation, but a serious threat to all children of the night resurrects itself in terrifying strength.

There are two main storylines weaving through this book. One is that Remus is being forced to choose between the two marks he bears. He is in a constant state of turmoil until Victor does the unthinkable...

The other is the fact that the Hunters have broken the truce that has lasted for decades. Due to the truce, the children of the moon have become complacent, and allowed their defenses to become lax.

Trust is broken, unexpected alliances are formed, and the hybrid is becoming united in ways he was always meant to be. I am anxiously awaiting the conclusion to this trilogy, because I cannot wait to see how things all play out. I know how I want part of it to go, but it's still a guessing game at this point.

Happy reading!

Great addition to the series!

This is the second book in the Kingdom of Night series. This book picks up where the first book ends. Remus learns how to control his feeding as a vampire with the supervision of one of his pack mates. Sebastian works on his aversion to feeding vampires so he can continue to be Remus's mate. Victor starts to spiral and continues to demonstrate why he shouldn't be considered the next alpha of the pack. We meet a new werewolf, Hunter, from another pack that has come to help with the prophesy and to help ward the property against the hunters. I liked Hunter. I liked how he is a transgender fleur werewolf. Maverick who was in the competition with Remus comes to live with the pack also after being rescued from his abusive relationship. At the end of the book they are trying to find Victor who has gone missing and need a hunters blood to do one of their spells. I can't wait to see what happens in the last book in the series. I voluntarily reviewed an advanced reader copy of this book.

Liminality is the second book in the trilogy, and I’m glad all three books are released so close to each other because the first two end in cliffhangers.
The author has this way of writing that just sucks you in and you can’t put the book down. It happened with the first book in the series, and it happened with this one.
The storyline is pretty solid but the characters are so frustrating, I felt genuine anger at a lot of parts. I am looking forward to reading how the author is going to wrap up the storylines though, and how the mess that is the Remus/Victor/Sebastian relationship going to end.

Have to say that what Victor did to Remus was absolutely vile and disgusting, especially after everything Remus has been through. He doesn’t deserve him, and that kind of violation is not something that can be forgiven.
It almost made me stop reading with how angry it made me. I do want to know how they’re going to fix this though.

More questions are answered and secrets are revealed. I am aching over the revelations. Best case scenario Seb, Vic, and Remus form a triad and the twins both become alphas of the pack. That's my vision, and I can't wait for the final book to give me the author's take on it all. There are no secondary characters in this story. For me, all of them are an integral piece of a massive puzzle, and I want/need more answers. This book and characters draw you in and totally immerse your in their world. I haven't read such an addictive book in a long time, and this series is such a sweet addition!! One minute I'm hating and cursing characters out, and then I'm fawning over them and back in lust with them. This will definitely be a binge reread trilogy for me, and a must read for anyone who loves intrigue, action, angst, and heat. Amazing phenomenal series. Kudos!!

Just as the first book, this one kept me captivated in to the long hours of the night, wanting things to speed up but at the same time not.

With Remus, Sebastian and Victor still in limbo things go forward as expected until the wolf can't and won't be ignored anymore. Shooting them straight from limbo to a whole lot of confusion and chaos along with hunters circling them.

I found myself so angry at points in the book, where they kept ignoring Remus by having it be for his own good. Not allowing him to voice his opinion on something that is his life as well.
And of course in the end wanting to hate Victor for being an absolute idiot in it all, which of course will come back and bite him and maybe I won't get my ending.

I need the next book and it's cruel to leave it on such a cliffhanger, but what is authors if not cruel bastards.

Wow

I’m so totally absorbed in this trilogy. Remus can at times be his own worst enemy but his intentions are always good. He’s so mentally split between brothers, between the two halves of his own soul, that the battle still rages within. Sebastian and Victor, I would not be able to choose either. They are both very self sacrificing where it comes to Remus, why can’t he see what the rest of us can? This author is a must read and is an auto buy for a reason. He knocks it out of the park time and time again. He writes the characters in such a way that they are captivating, flaws and all. The plot is very interesting, moves at a great pace even though it is a longer read. Wanting to see them fully accept the situation and realize that Remus doesn’t have to choose is keeping me on tenderhooks, in a good way.

Vampires and werewolves what is a man to do when he does not belong to either the vampires or the werewolves but both? Add in two alpha men who will not give up until he belongs to them and Remus does not know what to do. He is stuck between Sebastian and Victor along with everything else in his life. Watching the relationship build between these three men makes for a very entertaining read especially when the two men vying for Remus are twins. Remus is working through so much in his life and it is nice to see that he is starting to grow.

The world that the author has created for these characters in intriguing and full of excitement that will pull grab your attention and not let go. This story moves along at a nice pace and is full of angst and emotions that leave readers eager to see what will happen next in this world.
