Babaganoosh spread her wings like a swan. With several mighty beats that sent the dead leaves scuttling she rose up past the naked treetops, up, up, up until they were surrounded by stars and lit by the moon...Ruby's friends arrive on a flying camel to use one of the most valuable magical objects that Granny McQuirky keeps in the attic - the travellers telescope. When Ruby's house-proud mother gives it a polish, she sets off a series of strange and dangerous events that catapult Ruby, the magic carpet, Avalon and Jaffa into a dark forest in a far off land. To Ruby's horror she discovers they are not alone...

The Traveler's Telescope is an excellent tale of fantasy geared towards upper primary children and above. I really enjoyed this story, even though it is a children's book, and I am most definitely past that age. This is the second book in a series of three. I have not read the first one yet, but it is not necessary to have read it to be able to follow along with the plot in this one. Jodie Brownlee's writing style is easy to read and engaging. I was pulled into the story from the very beginning. The excitement is well paced, and the story progresses smoothly. Descriptions are well done, so that you almost feel as if you can see the colorful settings and fanciful activities. I was easily caught up in the suspense of what was going to happen next, and I found myself feeling excited for Ruby when she receives some good news toward the end. I think this book, and the rest of the series, will be popular among young children (and those who are young at heart).
This book has bewitched me. I want the third book so bad! It feels like I'm in the story watching the characters in the scenes. I can imagine how weird this must be for Ruby and especially her mother! My favorite character is Ruby, she is very interesting and full of skill! I don't think I would be able to do the things that she has done. She is a real hero! Go Ruby! The author does a really good job at keeping the readers engaged. I love the plot and excitement. Five humongous golden stars that are real gold!
