Really nice pictures/illustrations, well organized, and chock full of good information. Mostly aged well since 1997, but some of the information about dive spots, trips, activities, etc is incorrect. If you don't mind rays, you'd probably enjoy those chapters as well. Could always have included more sharks.
This is just an okay book. I know it can't have every single species of shark and ray but as an aquarist I have already seen that we have a species of wobbegong that is not mentioned in this book. It has mostly pictures of the animals but it does include drawings of rarer sharks and sharks that live in the deep where it is harder to get a picture of them or even find them. It also has drawings in specific views of the animals where it might be difficult to get a photograph (i.e. the underside of a ray). It includes chapters on general shark and ray facts, human history as it involves sharks (myths, tribal cultures, human threats, shark attacks). It then moves into chapters more specific to shark and a chapter specifically highlighting rays. These chapters highlight anatomy, evolution, senses, habitat, reproductive behavior and methods and migrations. The book then moves on to individual shark and ray species, including natural histories and color photos.
