Splattered Punk

Rate this book
His music brings joy to thousands. His death will bring joy to millions... Time to splatter the punk. Nate Nasty is the lead singer in one of the biggest punk bands currently working the circuit. His stage antics were over-the-top and downright dirty but - off stage - he was something else entirely. With reports of his lewd and obnoxious behaviour being reported in the papers, on a near weekly basis, he had earned the reputation as one of the biggest hell-raisers on the music scene today.

But how much of it was true and how much of it had been sensationalised? There was only one way to know for sure; Carolyne would have to interview him for herself. Are the reports coming out about him true or is there more to his story to tell?

Biography

MATT SHAW was born, quite by accident (his mother tripped, he shot out) September 30th 1980 in Winchester hospital where he was immediately placed on the baby ward and EBay. Some twelve years later (wandering the corridors of the hospital and playing with road kill when he was on day release), the listing closed and he remained unsold, he was booted out of the hospital to start his life as a writer and hobbit – beginning with writing screenplays and short stories for his own amusement before finally getting published when he was twenty-seven years and forty-five seconds old.

Once Published weekly in a lad's magazine with his photography work, Matt Shaw is also a published author and cartoonist. Has to be said, can be a bit of a flirt and definitely, without a shadow of a doubt, somewhat of a klutz.

Have you ever heard that the people who usually plays villains or bad guys in movies or on television are exactly the opposite in real life?
If this is true, Matt Shaw must be a saint!

Yes, this story had a message - which is why I love to read his work - but when he said he's going to turn it up to eleven, he meant it.

There is a very fine line between confident and arrogant. In my opinion, arrogance is an ugly and sad quality to have. For most people, being a big fish in a small pond can be a very big thing. But there is nothing more satisfying than seeing those people being taken down a notch. That's why most people love and root for the underdog.
While I can respect that people are different at work than they are at home, I still think basic human decency should remain at the core. I had a real eye opener at work the other day:
If I don't like somebody I have to work with, I become very professional toward them, never making small talk or chatting beyond anything that is not work related. It still surprised me when I made a joke with someone (I later heard from somebody else) that this one guy was shocked I had a sense of humor at all.

That being said, I've never had the problem of dealing with fame. While I can accept that it must be difficult to handle when people are kissing your ass all the time, it is so annoying to see some of them buying into their own bullshit. In this novel, it is a musician. And yes, he gets taken down a few notches.
Does he deserve it?
That's the big question, isn't it?

If I didn't respect his twisted, sadistic imagination, as well as his writing skills, I would have avoided his work at all cost. As it stands, I have read more of his work in the last two years than any other author.
And, yes, he still managed to absolutely gross me out in this one.

This is a serious warning: Do not read his work if you can't handle extreme!

Nate Nasty is a vile heavy metal star that thrives on controversy and negative publicity. His fans eat up his bad behavior and rock out to his tracks no matter how much of a scumbag he tries to make himself out to be. After years of horrifying and disgusting reports about his terrible behavior surfacing in journals, articles and news reports, Carolyne decides to host a private interview with the man to distinguish fact from fiction. Is Nate truly the monster he claims to be in front of the camera, or is there more to him than meets the eye?

This had some extremely gross content that almost had me gagging, but the horror was effective and the commentary on the corruption of the modern music industry is addressed from multiple perspectives that make you question whether Nate's punishment fits what he's guilty (or not guilty) of. It criticizes the predatory nature of record label contractors, mainstream media blowing small things completely out of proportion, as well as dishonest activists and sensationalists pretending to be journalists.

It also criticizes what music stars and Hollywood stars do to get away with violence, propaganda, sexual misconduct, abuse and many other forms of terrible and illegal behavior. It doesn't take sides and paints everyone involved in a fair light that lets you decide what punishment fits the crime or if any crime ever took place to begin with. It even brings in real world examples such as Michael Jackson and Kurt Cobain which makes the crazy stuff that goes down in the second half of the book feel much more authentic.

The modern age of sensationalized media makes it easy for people to put their bad behavior on display for everyone to see, but it also makes it very easy to spread hateful lies, misinformation and propaganda disguised as good intentions.

4/13/2020 First Page-This quote is what I’m going through in my life RIGHT NOW. Except I can't cut the cancer out right now.. Thank you Matt Shaw for making my day and understanding!
Sadly people like this character exist in real life. They believe themselves better than you and I. They believe they are the top of the food chain and that we are here for their amusement to do with as they please. This isn’t the case though. We are not here for anyone else. It doesn’t matter whether you’re a leader of a free world, a highly paid actor, a successful author, doctor, nurse, nuclear engineer or even homeless with nothing to your name but the stinking clothes upon your back. We are all human. We are all equal. Never let someone treat you as anything but their equal and, if they try, cut them from your life like the cancer they truly are. Matt Shaw

That was messed up.. here I thought Nate was deserving.. or was he? It makes you wonder who’s the liar? But then the ending with Steve.. that makes it hard for me to believe he really made a monster. But then there really are entitled monsters and some would definitely lie to get out of being tortured. Nobody likes pain well unless your a sadist.. but that’s liking pain of others.. I don’t know what to call liking your own pain in and of itself. Has to be rare.. but then I thought sex predators, manipulators, narcissts, and abusers were rare too.. except apparently I am one of those people who had to work on themselves because I am a magnet for them. Which sucks.. after I’ve been burned, I get that I have to change.. I’ve always been trying to do that to fix whatever was wrong.. but why do all the bad people never get punished?? I can’t believe in afterlife stuff anymore, not when it feels like life is hell.. (sorry not trying to bring up beliefs). The only way I can talk is like this now. I just feel like it will never get better and this story made me feel like more bad people maybe got away with it. But I still liked it. I spotted a few spelling and Etc errors. But they were pretty few and I have an eagle eye! I’ve read stuff by Matt before so usually I kinda know what to expect. I think that his writing has improved and this is a relevant story!

For fans of gore. The story certainly lives up to it’s claim of turning the violence up to 11. Not for the faint hearted. Quite a few editing issues but not enough to stop me finishing it. Matt Shaw strikes again.

Great read

This was one sick read if not a little sad. I was nearly gagging at 1 part but found I couldn't stop reading. I love how grotesque Me Shaw books are I just wish they were a little longer. They end too quickly so you don't feel fully satisfied at the end. It like watching g a film but missing parts of it by leaving it on whilst you nip to make a cuppa or to go to the bathroom. This is not to say it isn't a great read just you want more. Unless it me being greedy haha. But yes a great read with some sick twisted work.

This is part of the missing review - I read it the day it was released.
👩‍🎤 Being a punk myself, I've been waiting for this one to be released. I'm sad it's over.
I think I'm going soft with age - I almost puked. Behind the carnage and the gore, I love where Matt took this story.
The real 'man behind the man' story, and then... Sorry, mate!
Added bonus - Matt, the use of 'suit n boot' gave me a grin 😁
Update to original review - I had a squeeze moment when Nate showed up in another book (I believe it was the original How Much To?) I love Easter Eggs from my favorite authors!

Hard to rate

I finished this book hours ago but I needed time to gather my thoughts. It is definitely a Matt Shaw true to form story, filled with gut wrenching, mind numbing unimaginable horror. And always with that certain twist that makes you shake your head in wonder how any human can think of such depraved things. So before you partake in Mr. Shaw's world of horror be ready for a stomach turning ride and even a few nightmares.

Twisted

Wow. The graphic details of the story are unbelievable.
From the very beginning I disliked Nate. I kept reading because
well that is what suspense does to me.
The twist came when Carolyn shot Nate with a dart. I'm hooked now.

A great book, if you like music and following bands, then this book will be of even more interest to you. You really feel like you’re backstage at a gig, and living the life through the artist but also one of the fans. What goes on behind the scenes, well , it makes you realise that the music industry certainly isn’t glamorous (but most of us know that anyway)
It’s an entertaining read, and you won’t be left disappointed

Matt Shaw, God of gore, delivers yet again!

A disgustingly delicious short read that I managed to read as I was having my dialysis session.
I devoured every page with relish, and now it's onto the next book.
Luckily, I have a good selection of Matt Shaw books on my Kindle.

Not his best or should I say her best

I chose the two star rating because it's not near as gruesome as his stuff used to be. I would have liked it if they had turned around and gotten Steve after torturing Nate. Huh, maybe I should take up writing! HA!!!

First let me say, I’m not a fan of Splatter Punk. I read this for a challenge. With that being said… it’s loaded with gore, depravity and twists you’ll never seen coming. For those who like this genre, in my opinion, it’s definitely a 5 ⭐️ read.
