Extended Remix = same story but more! Re-edited and expanded.
Includes the short story Pretty Red Ribbon
The Weiss Strande Hotel is in trouble. Business just isn't what it used to be when Tyler's father ran the family-owned hotel. On top of business being down, Dad's now sick with cancer so bills have skyrocketed. Desperate to save his family livelihood, Tyler sinks his hopes and money into a new venture: a nightclub at the hotel. It's imperative that the White Room is a success, or else the hotel will go under. Lady Luck seems to be with them, however, because they manage to sign the mega-popular rock group Heaven Sent to play the grand opening.
Already a huge fan of the group, Tyler couldn't be more excited to welcome them to his hotel. He's not at all prepared for the bomb of lust that hits him when he's finally face-to-face with the painfully gorgeous lead singer, Johnnie Heaven. No, it couldn't be lust. Yes, Johnnie's probably the most beautiful person he's ever seen, but Tyler is straight! It must be a misguided form of hero worship that he's feeling.
Tyler finds out that he and Johnnie share an obsession: video games. When Johnnie invites Tyler to his room to play, Tyler jumps at the chance. Who wouldn't snap up the opportunity to spend time with their idol?
He and Johnnie have a great time with the games, but Tyler soon discovers that Johnnie's got more in mind. The rock star's aims to introduce Tyler to a whole new level of game play.

Oh My God!!! 😱 I loved this book with a passion. 💜 First of all, I know this book was out a long time ago but I never read the old edition of the book. And when Jet Mykles announced that she’s releasing a new edition of the book with a bonus short story, I immediately ran off to Amazon and purchased it right away. 😁 And I loved every second reading this book. 🥰 Damn! And I mean damnnnnnn!!! 🔥 Usually, rock stars aren’t my catnip but did Johnnie press all my buttons or what! 😏 I immediately want to reread it as soon as I finished it and that’s how much I was GaGa over this book! 😍
Johnnie Heaven, the lead singer of Heaven Sent band isn’t used to hearing “no”. As a hugely successful rockstar and the heartthrob of the women of all ages, Johnnie is used to getting anyone he desires into his bed within ten seconds. Of course with the exception of Tyler, the manager of the Weiss Strande hotel, where Heaven Sent is supposed to play for the grand opening of the hotel’s club, “White Room”. Tyler has never been attracted to men. For god sake, he was engaged to a woman until six months ago. 😁 And now, his idol and favorite singer Johnnie is hitting on him and Tyler doesn’t know what to do. At least he pretends to not know what to do. Johnnie stirs emotions and desires he has never felt for anyone, men or women alike. Johnnie is only going to be at his hotel for a couple days even if Tyler gives up his straight status and get in bed with him. This relationship is doomed even before it has started. Tyler can’t afford to fall heads over heels in love with a male rock star when the whole hotel and his family is depending on him to survive. Or can Tyler be selfish for once in his life for love? 🙂
I know that in this day and age, no means no. 😁 And that is good. But there’s just something about reading fictional alpha arseholes who just won’t take no and relentlessly pursue their virginal love interests. 😏 And boy, did Johnnie have serious persuasion skills. 🔥 I think this is definitely one of the few rare books of genuine gay-for-you love stories. Why I loved this book so much you ask? It’s because this is mainly focused on the relationship development between Johnnie and Tyler and how they feel attracted instantly to each other from gradually falling madly in love with each other. And this wasn’t that focused on music industry and band business which I appreciate. Also they were monogamous throughout since they met which is very important for me. 😁 And let me tell you, I read a lot of romance and hence a lot of sex but this book is hands down, one of the hottest, sexiest and most erotic books I’ve ever read. Every time Johnnie and Tyler got together, I needed a cold glass of water! It was scorching hot! 🔥🔥 And I loved the epilogue and the short story. It was a spectacular HEA. 🥰 It was sweet, endearing, romantic and again, so sexy. 🔥 Jet Mykles has definitely become a favorite author and can’t wait to get the next book in the series. 💜
I read this story 10+ years ago and it was my very first m/m series so it has a special place in my heart. I’m so glad Jet decided to give us Johnnys POV and I still love his pushy little red headed ass 🥰🥰🥰
Heaven is a light romance read which played on GFY theme that was so popular back in the day, while also including some of the Yaoi elements (pushy top and pretty bottom who had no idea he liked men). While my taste has matured and I no longer SQUEE over stories like this I still love it all the same.
Looking forward to the rest of my rockstars and most importantly my name sake Darien 😁
2.5 stars A hotel manager meets a rockstar who changes his life. Said hotel manager, Tyler, is taking over for his ill father. The hotel is in need of business. The White Room, which is a club, was created to bring in that business. The band appearing for the grand opening is Heaven Sent. This band is also Tyler's favorite. When he meets them he immediately catches the eye of the leader singer Johnnie. But Tyler, isn't gay. In fact, the year before he was engaged. However, Johnnie Heaven makes Tyler feel all kinds of ways. I am a fan of the rockstar trope. However, I have to admit, Johnnie was a bit creepy. He came on super strong to Tyler. He never gave him room to breath when making his first move. Even when Tyler said no he just kept on pushing. So yeah, he was a slime ball. He did mellow out which was a saving grace. The story line with Tyler's father was something I thought would be a bit more prominent. The guy is on his death bed but it is pushed to the side until the end. It becomes important part of how Johnnie and Tyler's relationship finally gets going. Personally I am not a fan of something major having to happen for a couple to get together. Overall, it was just ok.
10 years ago when I started reading m/m this series was a favorite. As a nostalgic memory, I still want to love it but 10 years on, I have a few more issues with it that I should have had back then but... well, times change and time changes. I have a lot more problems with the unequal power dynamic, especially since Tyler needs Johnnie to avoid bankruptcy and is in no position to displease him. The rapey first sex scene and the overall obsessive feeling of this book remains even after the rewrite that I was really hoping JM would have toned down or evened out. Adding Johnnie's POV helps soften some of it but not nearly enough. In the world of No Means No and Me Too, this book is just a lot more problematic to me now. It makes it hard to rate this book. It was once a 5 star read for me but had I read it for the first time just now, I might have done a DNF at 30%. Sometimes it's just not a good idea to re-read favorite books.
The conundrum is that I still harbor a lot of love for the series and as it goes along, the relationship between Johnnie and Tyler is one of my favorites. After this book they have a much more even and devotional, in a way less obsessive way, that I adore.
I want to add that for a book that was rewritten and assumably re-edited, this book STILL had a lot of errors.
So I was curious about this one. I heard so great and some not so great things about this and I wanted to see for myself.
So I know this one is extended with Jonnie's POV in there and such, but I'm glad my first time reading this was with Johnnie's POV in some instances because I think it definitely helped it. The original was written in 2007 or so and as I understand it for the most part not a lot was changed with this one.
And I gotta say, there are definite signs in this that it was written in 2007. For one, two times Tyler has a thought of "am I the woman in this relationship" (although he does go on to be like "well, not the woman, but the submissive" but then that's a whole other can of worms...like oh okay why the fuck did you associate the submissive in a relationship with a woman, Tyler?) and the "I get the feeling I'm going to be the bride" (literally the last line in the book, which really annoyed me. I also get that he was previously straight before Johnnie (or thought he was), but this was cringe-y.
But I am giving some leeway for it because...2007. Even in like 2011, 2012 (and even today) people were still all "who's the man and who's the woman in the relationship" about gay relationships. Plus, it only happened twice. So, somewhat forgivable...
Also, I read about the early scene between these two and some people didn't mind it in the end and some did. I did tag this with dubious-consent because that's what I think it was. Johnnie comes on a little strong for our previously-thought-to-be-straight Tyler, and pushes for sexual things before Tyler is particularly ready, in my opinion. And yeah, Tyler says "No" and "Stop" a lot, but also...he really, really wants it.
And both Tyler and Johnnie know that. Tyler is just in hugeee denial. He keeps repeating "I'm not gay" over and over. And what happens is Johnnie gives Tyler a blowjob, and then when Tyler is all "coming to his senses" or whatever he puts a stop to it and Johnnie listens. So it does get really sticky there, and definitely if this had been written today, Johnnie would have stopped even with them both knowing Tyler really wants it. But Tyler's protests were always about his denial, not about him not wanting it. So yeah, very dubious consent in my opinion.
So all that to say...I still enjoyed this book. I still enjoyed Tyler and Johnnie together, even though at times Tyler's denial of everything got to be too much (even that he loved Johnnie) and it caused him to pull back until the very end and that annoyed me sometimes while reading this.
But it had it's good moments (and it's hot sex scenes) and I felt the connection between these two. I might continue this series as well, depending on how I feel.
But overall...has some dicey moments, but good overall.
I'm pretty sure I just reread this a few months ago, but still, once I saw this extended release, I jumped right over to Amazon and grabbed it. I even read it on the dreaded Kindle app, so as to not waste time converting and transferring to my Marvin app.
I loved getting the little bits in Johnnie's POV, and I think the author fixed the little gaming bits so that they made more sense (I remember bitching about them playing Final Fantasy X like a turn based game before, lol!). Hopefully, Mykles doesn't take too long to get the rest of the series expanded (especially Hell!).
...but to be honest, it is cheesy, cliched and highly stereotyped. It not even remotely believable.
So, honest review. It doesn't deserve 4 stars. It is a solid 3 star book, but you know what? I really don't care.
I first read this book way back when it was originally released under Loose ID publications, and I really enjoyed it then. I re-read the reworked version and really enjoyed it now.
It has a lot of faults, both with the plot and the writing, but I think it acknowledges a lot of them. In today's standards, it isn't an accurate or even exemplary portrayal of gay life. There was an overly pushy male role and a more submissive "female" role that each character fell in to, but with the rewrite, I think it tries to temper that a little. Instead of finding this offensive, or a trigger, I like that this book acknowledges these stereotypes in the story and tries to at least explain them almost. It had a very nostalgic feeling. I have read dozen of asian manga books (again, referenced in the book) that are just like this and you can clearly see where the book drew it's inspiration from.
I don't think it was written with an accurate knowledge of gay men, or gay sex, but it did try hard. In a more modern book, I would be looking for accuracy, believability and a story so well written it feels like these people actually exist...
..in this book, it is a 2-3hr read full of smutty, heart-warming, feel good fun. Like an old, well worn teddy that you can cuddle up with to make you feel happy. Probably more so for me because I did first read this book so many years ago.
I really like the updated version. I think the changes are minor, but added a LOT to the story. I enjoyed seeing a different perspective and a new insight to some of the characters. Also, I think the changes helped smooth it out and add a better overall flow to the story.
All in all, short, smutty, fun and I will absolutely read it again one day. Because I like it.
Definitely the book that got me into the series. Awesome read. I love Tyler and Jonny. I totally buy their love.
Still don't like the fact that the epilogue is them getting engaged, would have lived more of just their relationship especially with the fact tha Jonny takes women out as dates, but it doesn't detract from how great this story is.
Fun, light with juicy smut, which I always love.
The extra parts with Jonny were the most consistent of all the remixes so far and added nicely to the story without making it too cheesy or weird.
Was glad to revisit this series since it has been a favorite of mine for years. Even now I still remember the plot and characters, which I can't say I do with many books.
I fell in love with the Dark Elves and from there has enjoy the writings of Jet. I have encouraged so many other nurses to read the Elves that they started to believe I wrote the saga 🤣😂🤣 but Heaven Scent is just a great read with awesome character development and in reading it you can almost feel what the characters were feeling, thank you for your art Jet
Yea, I liked this. It was a short and simple rockstar story, not too much undue drama. The biggest part of the story was Tyler coming to terms with his bisexuality. I had a few little issues with some of the comments made by side characters and by Tyler relating to being bisexual or being 'the girl'. The sex was very well written, detailed and sensuous without being boring or repetitive.
After rereading novellas 1 & 2, I discovered J.M. released re-edited, expanded versions with dual POVs and made them free on KU. The differences were noticeable, especially when comparing the versions side by side. The updates improved the story, and I appreciated the new content.
With three good reads and liking the updated version, I gave it 5 stars. The MCs’ relationship is sweet and steamy, and the story is engaging without needing to skim. Johnnie’s POV showed how deeply he fell for Tyler. Though it’s insta-love and a bit OTT, I enjoyed it by turning off my “realism meter.” Fun read! 🥳

Tyler (28) and his family owns the Weiss hotel. He took over as the manager when his father was diagnosed with cancer. Now his father is very ill, and the hotel is in financial trouble.
He and his best friend, Edward, come up with an idea to save the hotel―open a hotel dance club. A year later, the White Room, is ready for its grand opening. Because Tyler and Edward were fans before the band became famous, they were able to get Heaven Sent to play for their opening weekend.
Johnnie (26) is the singer of the group. Little is learned about him, but his love of gaming is the reason why he and Tyler spend time together.
Tyler has always considered himself straight, but he finds himself drawn to the larger-than-life, sexy singer. Mutual attraction leads to the first sex scene, although Tyler does have to be pushed into it. Johnnie is quick to fall in love. He's the primary pursuer, until Tyler accepts that he's in love with a man, and that Johnnie truly wants & cares for him.
🥵 There are several well-written steamy sex scenes. Johnnie is dominant in the bedroom, and Tyler loves to be taken. Some sadness Plus a great group of side characters―friends, family and band members.
I hope my reread of book two is better than the first. Originally, I only gave it 2-stars.
💜 𝗣𝗼𝘀𝗶𝘁𝗶𝘃𝗲 𝗙𝗲𝗺𝗮𝗹𝗲 𝗖𝗵𝗮𝗿𝗮𝗰𝘁𝗲𝗿𝘀: Rebecca, Tyler's ex-fiancée and childhood friend. She helped make the White Room happen, due to being an event planner with good contacts. Gretchen, the manager of Heaven Sent, obviously cares about the band members. She supported the MCs' relationship and helped Johnny when needed. Amy, Tyler's older sister, is who he talked to about him and Johnnie being together. He shared his insecurities and concerns over not believing that Johnny truly wants him. She talked sense into him, and got him to admit to being in love. Then she told Tyler that he needs to talk to Johnnie.
𝗧𝗵𝗲 𝗘𝗽𝗶𝗹𝗼𝗴𝘂𝗲: 2-years later. Johnnie sold his place in LA, and now lives at the Weiss when he's not on tour. Tyler has just been discovered by the press, but they don't know if he and Johnnie are together or are just good friends. Gretchen wants to break the news by saying they're engaged.
Johnnie likes the idea, so he says: "Say you’ll marry me.” Sighing melodramatically, Tyler wound his free arm around Tyler’s neck. He pulled back enough to look again into Johnnie’s eyes. “Fine. But why do I get the feeling I get to be the bride?"
There's also a sexy short called Pretty Red Ribbon. Tyler & Johnnie spend their first Christmas together. It's basically a few pages of 🔥 sex. I read it when it was a separate short. My review for it is here: https://www.goodreads.com/review/show...
Great book! I came across this gem on a Goodreads list and while I think I had heard of Jet Mykles before, I knew I hadn’t read any of her works. Whether she means to or not (judging from the book covers, she does), this is totally yaoi-inspired and I’m thrilled to find it. Do you know how hard it is to find yaoi that’s not manga?! Her characters are way more fleshed out than say, Amelita Rae’s, but it’s not a bad thing. I read Heaven and Purgatory today (my day is completely shot...I’m lucky I got a shower in), but Heaven is by far my favorite. It’s shorter, but no less powerful. Lots of appropriate smexy times—a little bit of waffling GFY (kinda...more a late-bloomer thing), plus that whole borderline dubcon that makes yaoi so delicious. This book is under appreciated!
Number one this book. Two the next. Three the next. Four the next. All of the Heaven Sent series will make you fall in love with her work. This is actually the four time I have bought this book. The three time my computer crashed and I couldn't find my information to my account. But that is how much I love this series. And if she comes out with the other three on Amazon I'll get those too. Niw for the review: This is a great book if you feel like no one loves you and you wish someone would or if you feel like you don't have enough confidence in yourself. This book would definitely change your mind.
Not sure how I feel about this book. It seems to be a classic for a lot of people, but I wasn’t a huge fan. Johny the rock start was pushy and didn’t think before acting. Tyler the hotel manager was conflicted and kept saying that he was not gay. Johny tried to prove him how serious he was about their relation even if the two lead different lives and barely see each others. Those two also did not talked much, did not listen to each other and did not seem to realize that sez doesn’t fix all problems.
I love this story more than the original, and I thought the original was awesome. That said I found one too many errors that an editor should have caught. Little things but enough to pull me out of the story once or twice.
I loved this book the first time I read it years ago. Though not a lot changed it was enough to really enhance the story. I can't wait for the rest of this series to be released. Maybe this time there will be an audio book!!!
I loved the original book but this one is so much better! I love that it has both characters POV, it adds so much to the story. Definitely buy this book! I hope the other books in this series are remixed and released again too!
