A simple direct-to-the point inspirational book. When I am down, I usually pick up this book and read in 2 minutes and I am up again. I got this book from Booksale and it stays in the eye-level shelf so I can pick it up whenever I feel like reading it. One line that I like most is "When there is love, there is music and dancing... I hope you dance."
This was given to me years ago as a gift. It's a very short inspirational "pick me up" style book with few words and a lot of pictures to evoke emotion. It has a few good lines in it alluding to not letting failed loves make you bitter nor giving up on your dreams and being grateful for even setbacks.
Generally I am of the opinion that country music is an oxy moron. However, I admit to liking the song, I Hope You Dance. This book is simply the lyrics to the songs along with some Hallmark-card type photos and an accompanying CD.
I read this book the from a friend who got it from her mother to pass down to her daughter.. Which I thought was such a sweet, precious, sentimental gift from the heart. The book isn't a long one, you'll be able to finish it right away. I remember telling my friend Glenda that I love the song from LeeAnn Womack of I hope you dance and the booklet mentions the what inspired the author of the song Tia Sillers. Also the sweet passages from Mark D. Sander. This unforgettable & lovely book is full of valuable, and inspiring words that stays in the minds/heart.
I give this book five top stars and would get this book for my child in the future. God willing if I have children.
I Hope You Dance is positive and encouraging. It is a quick read, but it is full of inspiration. Through the words written by Sanders and Sillers I hear down to earth folks in their voice. One of my favorite lines, to prove my feelings, is at the end of the book. “Wait. . .promise me one more thing: if tomorrow you wake up feeling unoriginal, or frail-hearted or faithless or tired of this world please pick up this book and start back at page ONE. (Or just call me.)” I highly recommend getting a copy for those days you need a positive push.
My mom bought me this book when I was in high school, which was very sweet of her.
Its ominous, dour graphic design and muted color palate are a truly surreal backdrop for the over-earnest, quite banal, borderline offensively bad poetry written throughout. I feel nothing after having read this, the writing has left me with enough un-feelings that it entirely cancels out the personal inscription from my beloved mother. I do not want this in my house.
Pretty book, though slightly bizarre to find it in a book swap box in Glasgow. I think that's probably why I liked it. The country single included was well sang, and the blurry sepia pictures gave a deeply weird vibe to the Christian poetry. I'm into it. A mother at some point had marked up this copy with notes to her daughter - I hope they're both doing well.
I absolutely love this book. I've always loved this beautiful song. I bought 2 copies. One for each of my daughters and hope they always keep it available and know I'm always here for them, no matter what :) I highly recommend this sweet little book.
Re-read:: my mom sent me this book + wrote notes to me when I was away at girls camp when I was a teenager - it made me tear up just as much as it did the first time I read it. 5 stars for moms additions and sentimentality.
Quick inspirational read for students. It encourages them to dance through good and bad times. It’s thought provoking for all who read and was good from beginning to end.
I hope you dance was a funny book for kids to read but it was slightly annoying the way the words were written when I was trying to read it. I kept loosing my place and was so focused on reading the words and finding my place that I didn't really pay attention to the story.
It would probably be fun for children to Read with the writing all over the place. It has a silly storyline about picking yourself up and keeping dancing when you fall.
I Hope You Dance is a book of hope, encouragement, and inspiration. Now, the authors of the book and the song offer this wonderful and whimsical take on the "grown up" message of the book. I Hope You Dance for children is witty and fun, warm and fuzzy, wild and fanciful. For the kid in your life, here's the opportunity to say: I hope you dance! Stir it up, baby, make a splash do the shag and the monster mash the cotton eyed joe and the hokey pokey if you ain't got rhythm that's okey dokey don't lay in the tub and bubble bath soaka get your shimmy on the floor and do the zydeco polka The message of the book is complemented by remarkable, delightful illustration and design by the award winning team of Buddy Jackson and Karinne Caulkins, which created the graphics for the adult version of I Hope You Dance.
I liked "I Hope You Can Dance" , by Lee Ann Walmack because the way the book is wrtitten so soft that i almost can touch the photos in my mind. My favorite verse is the one that says,"I hope you still fell small beside the ocean." That verse really spock to me. I would recommend this book to adults whos children are of on their own. this song will really confert you. I almost fell asleep it was so conferting. And that was only the half of it
Lee Ann Walmack is a very soft and sensitive person [who has a STRONG voice. she is a very good person to sing soft songs. She should sing "Wind Beneath my Wings".
This was a gift from my mom years ago which I very much appreciate. However, I feel the book was way too much trying to make me feel certain ways and it was too obvious. It's like a commercial that's supposed to make you feel "awwwww" but you aren't supposed to notice every step that leads you to the "awwwww" moment. When it's obvious they are trying to trigger a certain emotional response it's just annoying and I become determined to NOT feel the emotion they are attempting to trigger no matter what!
As a dancer, this book means even more to me than if I wasn't one, however it speaks to everyone. Personally, it reminds me to never stop dancing or to stop chasing my dreams. It was the perfect gift and it will always be the best pick-me up for when I'm feeling down. I've spent hours dancing to the cd included with the book and I always feel inspired when I do that. The book was beautifully done and the pictures capture the song wonderfully.
I originally received this book from my parents on valentines day a couple of years ago. I read it then and I read it known and both times the book is still inspiring. This book is great, it gives different ideas of how to hope. And do never lose site of hope. But the book I think kind of encourages you not to give up and to always try your best. And not to give up on your dreams or desires. I enjoyed it very much and "hope" I that I will read it again in the near future.
My mother gave me this book and so for that reason I like it. Beyond that, it is a book that takes the lyrics to Lee Ann Womack's hit song "I Hope You Dance" and expands on the idea of living life to the fullest. It also has a CD of the song.
I am not a fan of the song itself, but the lyrics and the contents of the book is inspiring. I bought it when I was still a college student, and would reread it every year or so. It's one of those books that give your soul a quick reminder to breathe.
When this song came out, my step-mother bought a CD of it for my daughter. It's a beautiful sentiment. At the time this book was sent to me as a Bookcrossing 'RABCK', I was struggling with some issues in my life and the message helped cheer and remind me that life is a beautiful gift.
