The Beechwood Manor is filling up fast and Holly’s feeling the pinch.

There are several new roommates in the Beechwood Manor, and one of them is a royal witch.

Literally and figuratively.

Unrest in a haven-ally magical kingdom leads a foreign princess into hiding and the Supernatural Protection Agency deems the Beechwood Manor as the perfect safe house—and Holly, her perfect guardian.

But with Holly's business taking off and a new apprentice under her wing, a royal babysitting detail is the last thing she needs. Besides, the spoiled princess is adamant she can take care of herself. So who could blame her if her supervision is a little lax?

When tragedy strikes, the bratty royal’s problems land at the manor’s front door and it’s going to take all hands on deck if the paranormal roomies hope to make it out alive.

I write my review of A Royal Witch, the seventh title in the Beechwood Harbor Magic Mystery series, with mixed feelings. I’ve been following Holly, and also Scarlet (Beechwood Harbor Ghost Mysteries) and Anastasia (Touch of Magic Mysteries) for at least sixteen books. I’m invested in this world that Ms. Garrett has created, and for the most part, I enjoy the stories. But I feel that A Royal Witch was less than it could have been.

The mystery part of this story involves the kidnapping of a royal princess, who comes from a magical European kingdom and is under SPA (Supernatural Protection Agency) protection, staying at the Beechwood Manor. I enjoyed this part of the book. Holly, Adam, Nick, and the gang work with the SPA to find the princess and discover what happened. While Holly does find herself in a bit of danger, she does so with her friends and not as a renegade searching for answers. In this respect, Holly has matured over the course of the series, which I find encouraging. The mystery was interesting and exciting.

However, it’s all the rest that got me down. First, there were inconsistencies within the Beechwood Harbor universe, and that ALWAYS drives me nuts. While not significant to the outcome of the story, it bothered me enough to bring the grade of the story down a notch. Additionally, there were too many loose/open ends; situations that came forward in the course of the story that either were not mentioned again, or were not addressed by the conclusion of A Royal Witch. For example, early on in the book, new comer Harmony quizzes Holly (out of nowhere) about her dangerous ex, but after an awkward scene, it’s dropped and never resurfaces. What was the purpose of bringing him up? He’s not been in the series for a while. I won’t go into details over each issue because of spoilers, but when added up, it gave the book an incomplete feel. And finally, I am beyond frustrated with the Holly - Adam situation.

Narration: This is where A Royal Witch excelled! As always, Holly and her friends are brought to life through the performance of Amanda Ronconi, who has consistently done a wonderful job. Her interpretation of Holly is always spot on - a bit flustered and frazzled, but with an air of determination - just like Holly. Ms. Ronconi convincingly portrays Holly’s thoughts, concerns, and expressions. Her voices are all well-suited, and she gives paranormals their own fitting voices. However, I noticed that as the cast gets larger, some of the characters started sounding similar, but due to writing, I could usually tell them apart. And this time I was blown away with the "British" accented royal princess; something totally new and wonderful.

A Royal Witch is a must for fans of the Beechwood Harbor universe. Chronologically, it falls about five months after the conclusion Wedding Bells and Deadly Spells (Touch of Magic Mysteries #3) and a few months before the start of Diamonds are a Ghost’s Best Friend (Beechwood Harbor Ghost Mysteries #5). While I was disappointed in the non-mystery aspects of this one, I’ll certainly continue listening to the Beechwood Harbor Magic Mystery series.

My Ratings:
Story: C
Narration: A-

Things are busy at the manor and for Holly. She is getting ready to open her new potion shop and has Harmony, whom we met from the Touch of Magic series, helping her. She and her boyfriend Adam whose relationship still boggles me are making plans.

The manor is full, with a Supernatural Protection Agent living among them when they learn a princess will board with them. This brings another guest who proves to be trouble. Posy, the ghostly owner of the manor is losing it and Holly and the others become caught up when the Princess goes missing. Nick and others joined in as the gang headed to a magical farm.

It was an intense installment, but Garrett weaved in some humor and normalcy as she delivered an interesting mystery and frustrated me before Holly made some decisions which pleased me.

I am quite curious to see what the next audiobook brings. While they resolved the Princess mystery, things are up in the air with the manor and threads concerning Holly’s Potions store.

Amanda Ronconi narrates this series and does such an excellent job capturing the characters and tones of the tales. I can’t imagine not listening to the series. This review was originally posted at Caffeinated Reviewer

I this is a cozy mystery that has Paranormal and Magical stuff, and this is the 7th book in the Beechwood Harbor Magic Mystery series. I have read this series in order, and I do feel you need to read this series in order of the books release. I loved this series. Holly is thing to figure out where her relationship going in this book during this book. I love all the characters in this series. I really love the Inn that Holly lives in, and there is always something going on in the Inn. This is a short but fun read. This book has some twist and turns, and Holly has to get herself out of some trouble.

There is a lot going on in the Manor and not all of it good. Lots of new roommates, but they aren't that good, lots of drama from over entitled people, who look down at those in the Manor. And of course Holly is at the center of all the drama going down. Sure things got resolved by the end, but instead of things going back to normal, it seems like everything is in flux, big changes are coming, it's hard to tell if they will be good or bad.

Holly and the gang at Beechwood Mansion face a new challenge when their house guest is none other than a British royal pain who is the Doctor Doolittle of the paranormal creature world. Things are as lively as ever for poor Holly as she gets pulled in so many directions including a new dangerous case involving a murder and disappearance. This was a good blend of suspense and character-driven plot showing a wonderful depth while still being a light-hearted paranormal cozy mystery.

A Royal Witch is the seventh installment in a series that doesn't make a good standalone or read/listen well out of order.

Holly is the focal figure of the book/series and at this point there is a lot going on around her and within her own personal life. She has gone from a person with nothing and a tattered reputation to a successful business woman who fixed her rep and got her potions license, friendless to surrounded by wonderful friends, aimless to landing in a warm home of people at the mansion, finding a gift for helping people and solving baffling paranormal and human mystery cases and, of course, finding love with Adam the dog shifter.

She's come a long way and it shows, but in A Royal Witch, her deep ties to so many also have her stressed and stretched to the max. I love how she continues to face hardships and conflicts, struggles with weaknesses and continues to grow as a character. Her shop grand opening is nearly there, Cassie's wedding is almost there and its all bridesmaids on deck. Posey her ghostly landlady is having an existential crisis and talks of ridding her mansion of boarders, her past with the wrong guy is destroying her current true relationship with Adam, and Meryl, the supernatural agent living there has been forced to take a case that gets the whole gang into trouble over their heads with a royal guest.

I do love how these mysteries are wrapped up in layers of other plot threads like I just listed above and that the author fully develops all her characters surrounding Holly so I am vested in all their stories together as a whole.

The world of Beechwood Harbor and beyond with its ever expanding revealed magical community is amazing and exciting. This book focused on political conflicts elsewhere and adorable, but mischievous magical creatures. There was also a thrilling new shifter introduced near the end.

The climax was exciting and the denouement left things in a good place that will carry over into the next book.

Amanda Ronconi continues to dazzle as series' narrator and I slip into her wry, husky storytelling easily now. It was fun hearing her add the British upper crust accents of the guests from overseas to her already large repertoire of cast voices.

All in all, this was another series winner and I can only urge those who enjoy their cozy mysteries with a paranormal twist to rush out and try these.

My thanks to Tantor Audio for the opportunity to listen to this book in exchange for an honest review.

A Royal Witch is the latest in the Beechwood Harbor Magic Mysteries .  I caught up on this series right after I started the Ghost series. This is an urban fantasy series where the characters go through a lot of changes so I wouldn't read these out of order.

Holly has so many things she has always wanted. She has her home, her boyfriend, Adam, and now she has her shop and warehouse to utilize her master potions license. I don't get her relationship with Adam as they sometimes seem more like bickering siblings or friends.

The manor gets a new resident who is a royal witch from a faraway area. She is there as a protection measure because she has issues. The princess seems more like a bratty teenager than an adult woman.  So the beginning of the story is a bit of a turn off with the drama seeming ridiculous, and then of course, Holly and her housemates get caught up in the mystery surrounding her issues.

From there, it actually becomes one of the better books in the series.  There's the mystery.  There are also things going on with Posy and the manor itself,  and with Holly's new store.  The latter two topics are not complete and will likely carry on to future books.  Holly does have some new revelations about relationships and I am happy with that character growth. Nick has a new career opportunity also. I ended up really enjoying A Royal Witch.
Narration:
Amanda Ronconi is a well-loved narrator and handles this series well.    She is a master with these quirky, paranormal stories. For me, these voices sort of blend with her other Beechwood Harbor series.  I listened at my normal 1.5x speed.

Son of a mermaid! Bat wings! Stars!
I love the expletives they use in Beechwood Harbor.

Another installment, another mystery, more characters were added into the long-term story arc, and yes, I’ll just continue on with the series.

Still a lot of fun but I didn't really care about the princess story line since we only known her for like five seconds. The prince was annoying so was Posy. Penelope Sparkelpants and Sherby were golden!
I like Harmony as a new flat mate (I already liked her a lot from the A Touch of Magic series).
And can we please please finally break up with Adam??
This relationship keeps dragging on. It never should have happened in the first place and book five would have been the perfect time to end it before it gets too tedious.
I usually don't care too much about relationships in books but the underlying tension and passive aggressive not-talking-about it gets old pretty quickly.

3.5 Stars. Although I love Holly and all her friends, I didn’t find this ‘mystery’ as much fun as in the other books. Great reader, as usual.

A royal pain in the ............

A good read. Okay the question of why Posy is so upset is left unanswered and the mystery of the kidnapping was so, so. The real pleasure of this read came from our characters and their interaction with the animals. Plus I loved the Big Smack down between the cat and the dragon. However the characters of the two royals was just a tad too stereotypical of the worst.
Her new venture is opening soon and the wedding is finally just days away when a meeting is called. The house is going to have a new inmate. A princess that needs to get away from the civil unrest in her home country. Add in a baby dragon, a unicorn foal, a cat who wants to establish his ownership of the property, a disgruntled ghost, a murder and kidnapping. Will they find the princess? Will the wedding actually happen? Will the arrival of the prince affect them? Why is Posy so out of sorts?

An interesting entry in the series. The mystery was quite interesting, as there were multiple suspects. However, I hope we're finally coming to some type of resolution with Holly and Adam's relationship (and I know what happens eventually because I accidentally read the first in the next series). But it seems that in each book we think they've resolved their issues, and then no, they haven't. Okay, on to the next.

At the manor, things are bustling as Holly returns with the gang, and they soon welcome a new, troublesome housemate - Princess Selene, who proves to be a royal pain in the butt. Amid the chaos, a murder and kidnapping unfold, while a snobby Prince arrives, expecting the gang to serve him.
P.S. there is a baby unicorn named Penelope Sparklepants :D

Another great book with an ending that was rather different and not what I'd expected.

However, previously I've enjoyed the fact that Holly and Adam weren't sleeping together. This book changed that part of their relationship and it was totally unnecessary, not adding one bit to the overall story. Since there are still five to go, I hope that the mention of sleeping in the same bed is as far as it goes and wish it hadn't gone that direction at all.

Definitely one of the more crowded Beechwood books--there are a lot of characters to keep track of here. The result is that nobody gets much time to shine. The mystery is not as interesting as others because the princess isn't really anyone we get invested in before she's gone. Is anyone else rooting for Gorgeous to dump the dog and finally find love with Nick?

i'll probably finish out the series since i'm so far in but this was probably the worst out of all of them so far. it's to the point if you haven't read three novellas and i don't know how many spinoff series these books don't make a lot of sense. spent the first 1/3 trying to play catch up on the handful of new characters that are suddenly just living in the house???

also the drama with Adam is beyond stale and BORING. this series would be perfect without the unnecessary "romance" if you can call it that. they just hang out as friends 30% of the time and the other 70% is Holly refusing to commit to absolutely anything almost two years into their relationship. thanks for making me feel bad for a man there girl but he deserves waaay better than you.

This series is so fun. I enjoy cozy mysteries - and especially ones with a paranormal flair. Beechwood Harbor Magic Mystery series meets that, with a side of humor to top it off.

I had taken a break from this series for quite a while, but I easily fell back into Beechwood Harbor, including the characters and the ongoing story lines. And since it's narrated by one of my favorite snarky narrators - Amanda Ronconi - I felt like I was back with some good friends and laughed a lot. I enjoy seeing the way all the character's lives are developing.

The mystery was interesting and kept me guessing - while I saw pieces ahead of the reveal, I did not catch the full picture until they solved it too. I also really enjoyed the continuation of Holly and Adam's relationship. And things are coming along with her business too - I can't wait to see her shop open, though I'm definitely nervous to see how it will play out. Things are a little bit intense at the Harbor too - and that was not settled in this book.

It ends in, not a cliff per-say, but definitely with a bit of anticipation for what may be coming on several fronts - especially the romance and Holly's business.

Good Book

I loved the baby unicorn and baby dragon. I cannot say I was surprised by the ending. The princess was a spoiled brat. I actually felt more sorry for the baby dragon. He is just a baby! He needed love and affection, not annoyance. Oh well, I must remind myself he is a figment of imagination, but it is hard, so hard to do LOL. As I said in my last review, Holly is so much better than the SPA. Meryl made some big errors. No wonder the SPA wants to hire Holly!

When the SPA places a princess in the manor for protection things get crazy. She brings her pet dragon and then acquires a unicorn. When her bodyguard ends up dead, Holly winds up in the investigation. I hope Holly can commit to Adam soon and stop dragging him along, it's kinda starting to annoy me. I really like this series!

One thing that can be counted on is that nothing stays settled for very long in Beechwood Manor but this time we have added royal flair. I love how each of these books keep me hooked while finding new ways to surprise me. Oh and of course now I want a baby dragon and unicorn.

Unrest in a haven magical kingdom brings an unexpected guest to stay at Beechwood Manor and she's a right royal pain. But when the Princess is kidnapped and her bodyguard murdered, it's up to Holly and her friends to find out who's behind it and rescue her before it's too late.

Holly has sure got her hands full, with trying to get her new business venture ready for its grand opening and her friend Cassies wedding, so the last thing she expects is to help hide a princess. Things get off to an awkward and tension filled start when Sherbet, Selene's pet dragon attacks Holly's familiar Boots (who for the record holds his own against the tiny adorable terror.) And when Adam says that Selene is more bratty and entitled than Lacey ever was well you know that's saying something.
But when Selene gets kidnapped, Holly although she has mixed feelings about the princess, throws herself into to investigation to try and find out what happened. This is Holly in a nutshell, regardless of her personal feelings she is willing to put herself on the line and help out where it counts, which is one of many reasons that I adore her so much.

Adam is his usual funny, protective self but we also get to see his caring side to one of his new roommates when she's in trouble. And of course his unwavering patience with Holly which knows no bounds makes me love this guy all the more.

And things seem to be looking up for Nick as well (which is about time because he's had a run of bad luck lately) After his disasterous dip into the dating pool in the previous book could it be that someone has finally caught his eye. Oh I really hope so, if anyone deserves to be happy it's him. Love him.

I also enjoyed the two new additions to the manor, Harmony, Holly's new apprentice and Meryl the SPA agent who's been sent to keep an eye on things in Beechwood Harbor. Both have seemessly slotted in with the gang and have become part of the family. I look forward to seeing more of them.

Again a highly enjoyable story, with lots of humor and fuzzy feels which is a perfect read on a cold winters night. I'm off to book 8 as although this one didn't finish on a cliffhanger I want to see what's in store for everyone next. Totally recommend 😁

This was so much fun! The scene where Boots and Sherbert met for the first time will live rent free in my head for a long time. Just picture a fat, orange tabby cat squaring off with a baby dragon…it was pretty great, imo 😂

Overall, I liked this. I do wish Holly would just be honest with Adam about her feelings. I feel like Adam has been pretty clear from the start with how he feels about her and where he wants their lives together to go, but she’s been stringing him along this whole time. Like, girl, please figure it out lol. This man would literally die for you and almost has died to save your life. He’s pretty committed…..time for you to figure your shit out and either commit to this man or let him go.

I assume she’ll figure things out soon, and all will be well, but still. Getting there has been a little annoying. They’re such a cute couple and I love them together. Adam has so much patience with Holly and I know girlie has a lot on her plate constantly. But, still, I wish they would find the time to really talk to one another.

Otherwise, it was another good installment for this series. I enjoyed getting to picture a baby dragon and even a baby unicorn, too!

Met some new sassy characters as well. The epilogue was precious, although I do wish we had gotten a whole chapter dedicated to Cassie and Chief Lincoln, not just a couple pages.

I might take a break from this series and read something else in the meantime. I’ve been reading these books non-stop and don’t want to burn myself out too much, ya know?

I will for sure continue though. I don’t want to be away from Holly and co for too long. 😉

A Royal Witch by Danielle Garrett is the seventh book in Beechwood Harbor Magic Mystery series.

After securing Nick's investments in the last book, Holly is all set to open her very own potions shop along with her apperentice Harmony and a new roommate Meryl, an SPA agent. When Meryl informs the residents of the manor of a new resident joining them, one Princess Selene, chaos ensues because she comes along with a pet dragon and an adopted unicorn!

This was such a fun little addition to the series especially because of the horde of magical creatures we got to see in this one. The royal characters also made for an interesting twist to Holly and Adam's not so reagal life. Princess Selene made me curious throughout the book, her pets kept me entertained and I was eager to learn of the kidnapper's identity. I hated seeing Adam and Holly's relationship on the rocks again but it makes sense that he'd feel dissatisfied with Holly not making up her mind about what she wants in the future.

I am hoping the next book is more favorable to the relationship and we see some much awaited progress.

I See Fire (and change)

It's always a joy to revisit Beechwood Harbor and the whole paranormal gang. With Holly stretched thin with getting her potion shop in the Haven ready, Cassie & the Cheif's wedding near and worrying about landlady Posy, she doesn't need a spoled Princess in hiding moving into the Manor. Said Princess is accompanied by her bodyguard, Wes and a baby dragon. Yep, a baby dragon shortly to be joined by a baby unicorn. Not very incognito. No wonder Posy is distraught.Matfers take a worse turn when Princess Selene is kidnapped. Adding baby dragon/unicorn care to her already overlong to-do list which includes figuring out her & Adam, Holly and friends work to figure out why things aren't adding up. Witb twits & turns at tbe end, this story is on par with the rest of tbis excellent series. Which yoy should also read, preferably before this one. You'lk be glad you did.

This is the best one yet in the series. It moves quickly. Holly's friend from the coffee shop is getting married to her sheriff. The Beechwood Manor's resident ghost is not happy when Supernatural Protection Agency decides to add more residents. I have skipped a few books in the series. However, by reading some of the things the author adds in I gathered some knowledge.

Supernatural Protection Agency decided a silly princess was to be hidden at Beechwood Manor. She lived in a world where there is a rebellion. Our princess comes to Beechwood Manor with a body guard and baby dragon.

Holly's kitty is not amused. Neither are the other residents especially when things begin to be destroyed..

So if you like magic, romance, drama, action, silly princess, witches, shifters and baby dragons you will probably like this story in the Beechwood Manor series. P.S. All your favorite characters are there and then some.
