Melissa and Jon have struggled with infertility for years. The straining experience is cracking the foundation of their marriage. To add fuel to the already out-of-control fire, Melissa’s painful and unhealed past comes knocking at her door.

One day, amid a torrential emotional downpour, Melissa enters a bookstore to seek refuge from the storms that pummel her life. Unbeknownst to her, God has just placed His hand on her life to set her on the most peculiar course. She finds what she thinks is an out-of-place, antique book. In the book she learns of a little boy who is living a life of abuse. The book transports her into itself – as if she were experiencing the story firsthand. Had she fallen asleep and her mind invented an abused child in need of her rescue? No, it wasn’t a dream – she can see the words written on the paper right here on her lap. But whenever she reads the book, it’s as if she is taken into a surreal dream world. Her heart is drawn to the boy and the book. She can’t get enough of this mysterious story. But is what she’s experiencing merely a heart-wrenching story? Or, is there something more to what she is seeing in the odd book?

Melissa must dig deeper into this story that seems to blur the lines of fiction and reality to investigate whether or not she needs to rescue this abused boy...and she may very well be putting her own freedom and sanity on the line to do so.

Mysteriously Good

Not all books thankfully follow a conventional format. This is one of them. Encouraging texts and a focus on having a relationship with God

I recieved an ARC for an honest opinion of this book. As someone who personally struggled with infertility, I was immediately drawn to the plot line and could easily relate to the couple's problems as they navigated that hardship. The author does a great job of drawing the reader into the personal struggles of the main character, Melissa, and her discovery of the mysterious book shop and the dark story she finds herself in. It is a great page turner and it keeps you wanting to read further as the story develops and you find yourself wanting to know more about the abused child and desperately wanting to help him at the same time. Melissa is a very relatable character you will be rooting for and encouraging throughout the book, hoping she will find her happy ending and the answer to whatever mystery she has become developed in. Without giving away the plot line or ending, I would highly recommend this book to anyone who enjoys Christian fiction and the mysterious ways in which God works to bring resolutions and answered prayers together.

I received a free copy of the book for an honest review. The latest from Brian Delaney is a must-read suspenseful fiction novel! It follows a typical married couple, Melissa and Jon. The challenges in their marriage are true to life, described in heart breaking detail as they journey through infertility, moving further and further away from each other. The characters are very relatable. I was perched on the edge of my seat wondering if it would work out for them. Melissa discovers an intriguing book that draws her in day after day. Is what is happening reality or a dream? How is it possible the book connects to her own past? The novel dives headfirst into the question we all often ask, why doesn’t God stop evil? Where is God in pain and sorrow? An inspired work by Brian Delaney kept me turning the pages to find out the conclusion. I recommend this book especially if you enjoy a mystery.

*Spoilers*

Melissa finds an unusual book in an unfamiliar shop. An engaging plotline follows her becoming literally "lost in a book", whose title keeps changing, and which seems to be a portal to events concerning an endangered young boy.
Meanwhile, we keep being shown "omniscient" scenes of Melissa's own back story, and experiences of her husband and others. As we realize these are all connected, we wait to find out how they will come together.
This all happens in a satisfying ending. But I was a little disappointed in the use of the It Was Here, I Swear trope, which doesn't quite fit with other implications of the plot.

This was a wonderful story that kept me wanting to see what happens next. I watched the way husband and wife viewed there relationship in very different ways. We all seem to struggle with things from our past, it may be something like missing the winning run to your little league game or something more like Melissa went through. Melissa's character really drew me in because of similar pasts. I love how she fought it, but her past was able to help which helped her as well. I'm looking forward to seeing more from this author!

Melissa enters into a unique bookstore to escape from the pressures of her everyday life and finds herself drawn to a old leather bond book. When she picks up this book to read she finds herself literally living out the story. Melissa and her husband must use the information Melissa gathered from the book and her past to rescue a little abused boy from a terrible fate. The author makes the story come alive for the reader. The author deals with the subjects of infertility and child abuse throughout the book amd how they can have an impact on a family. I highly recommend this book to anyone that enjoys a good mystery.
