Guilt-Na finally reveals the secret behind Vincent's past and explains why she keeps him as a servant. And there are imposters of Guilt-Na and Vincent running around--who are they and what do they want!? Meanwhile, Kyoji makes an unusual request from Guilt-Na for his birthday. Will she be able to fulfill it?"I don't know how to describe my love for Vampire Doll other than to say this: Buy it right now, you!" --Newtype USA
This was hilariously awesome! I loved that they gave us more backstory and Vincent! I so happy they even confirm it further in the finale chapter, that was super cool. The Fake vs Fake chapter, that was so funny. I just love the outfits and the transformation Guilt-na does. I love that they break the fourth wall all the time and poke fun at themselves.
We begin this volume with a couple of flashback scenes where Vampire Lord Guilt-Na-Zan interacts with the beautiful (and tragically dying) Beyonce - we learn that she's been reincarnated as Vincent. The relationship between the two souls is gorgeous.
The next story has wacky Night Veil creating a couple of clones of Guilt-Na and Vincent and our heroes and their clones face off in a competition. Self indulgent and rather silly, the one thing about this story is the costumes. The PVC ensemble Guilt-Na ends up in is stunning.
Next up's a story of Hugo and Dante - the romantic relationhip between them is as blatant as possible without actually spelling It out. Super cute mind, if a little disturbing.
There's a random one-shot mermaid story "Die Kliene Meerjungfrau" which has Vincent use his ultrasound to free a trapped mermaid from a clam. I'd have liked more on this - we only get one tail shot - still its rather sweet.
Lastly we have another stupid story in which Guilt-Na dresses up as a bride to please oddball master Kyoji. Again this one's all about the costumes.
Lastly we have 32 pages of bonus strip comics. I'd much rather have had another vampire doll story than this stupid and random RPG bonus strips - its a real cop out.
Overall I found this volume disjointed and very episodic, which is disappointing because I really wanted something more meaty. The characters are super cute and great fun and the artwork is beautiful. Some of the stories are ok, but the majority are exceptionally silly and merely a vehicle to show off the lolly-goth costumes. I do love the way this blurs gender and its a nice role reversal of Guilt Na-Zan(male)/Beyoncé (female) to Guilt Na(female)/Vincent(male).
The first story in this tankabon genuinely made me cry - it's the continuation of the story that ended the 3rd volume and it really is very sweet. I doon't think I realised before that Vincent is, potentially, the reincarnation of Beatrice but if he is I love that the two of them found each other again.
Otherwise this is a light-hearted volume, the doppelganger storyline feels very filler-esque, but the Beach one though undoubtedly filler, is very adorable.
